Message from the President 2020 has been a year of unprecedented events. We wish we could have been together last May to honor and recognize the students who work so hard at El Camino College and those who you chose to award with a scholarship. These dedicated students are able to achieve their dreams with your contributions. It is proven that students who receive scholarships do better in school; study harder, have to work less at their jobs, and devote more time to their education. It’s also proven that these students feel empowered when someone believes in them and their dreams.

In 2020, our students needed your help more than ever as they faced monumental challenges. Message from the Foundation Board President This year has certainly brought challenges to our students, but the El Camino College Foundation, with your generous help, will still award scholarships to help provide our students with the support they need to achieve their hopes and dreams of pursuing higher education. When we went to remote learning in March 2020, who knew how long this pandemic would last. Our philosophy since then has been flexibility to allow students some breathing room to finish their education. For so many of them, it’s been a struggle like no other they’ve faced. For so many of our students at El Camino College, a scholarship truly makes the difference between being able to attend school or not. The El Camino College Foundation and its activities are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors who generously contributes their time, resources, and expertise to serving the needs of El Camino College and its students. With our hard-working staff, we support dynamic scholarship programs - awarding hundreds of scholarships in a combined excess of $600,000 annually to students throughout our campus. In addition to scholarships, we fund STEM programs and research opportunities; technology in the classroom; and the expanding South Bay Promise program that allows high school students to pursue higher education with the promise that we will pay for enrollment fees for their first year AND second year at El Camino College. Now more than ever, we want to take time to thank each of our donors and to all who believe in our mission for taking this journey with us. It is through our collaborative efforts that we are able to continue to make a difference. We look forward to the day when we can see you in person. But for now, please know we are working hard to support all of our students and keep them in school. Osher Foundation Scholarships
Osher Foundation Scholarships
In 2008, the Bernard Osher Foundation made a historic gift of $25 million to the California Community College system to establish a statewide endowment for scholarships. This was the single largest gift to a community colleges in the nation, and one of the largest gifts ever made to higher education. In addition, Mr. Osher pledged another $25 million to match every dollar raised by community colleges throughout the state through 2011. Individuals, businesses and corporations supported this opportunity and helped the El Camino College Foundation raise an unprecedented $1.6 million, which after the Osher matching gift totaled $2.4 million. Additional criteria such as area of study or career goals may have been established by the individual donors and organizations that contributed to the endowment fund. These scholarships will be a part of the El Camino College Foundation Scholarship program for generations to come.
