A SAFE RETURN TO CAMPUS After two years, El Camino College is excited to have students and faculty return to in-person learning for the Winter and Spring 2022 academic terms. As part of our plan to safely return to campus, the El Camino Community College District Board of Trustees voted unanimously to require all students, faculty, and staff to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by January 3, 2022, before the start of winter classes. This action aligns with the guidance and public health recommendations issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), California Department of Public Health, and the L.A. County Department of Public Health.

STUDENT EMERGENCY FUND HELPS STUDENTS AT A CRITICAL TIME The Student Emergency Fund was established in March 2020 in direct response to COVID-19, ensuring that students have what they need to stay in college and be successful is the mission of El Camino’s Student Emergency Fund, which has raised more than $231,850 and helped more than 700 students through some difficult times.

This Emergency Fund supports tuition, fees, and textbooks. These supplemental funds also helped support students experiencing COVID-19 related financial hardships due to lost jobs and reduced wages that adversely impacted their rent, transportation and other living expenses.

FIRST YEAR EXPERIENCE PROGRAM CELEBRATES 20TH YEAR Our award-winning First-Year Experience program celebrated its 21st anniversary this year. Launched in 2001 with just 40 students, now more than 2,000 students are enrolled in this innovative program that has helped thousands of students successfully transition to college life. FYE regularly boasts top graduation and retention rates and provides a supportive environment full of academic and career services.

WARRIOR EDUCATION = CAREERS As a leader in business and technical training in the South Bay, El Camino College remained opened throughout the pandemic to not only provide students with a sense of stability during an unprecedented and unpredictable time, but to also ensure that students stayed on track in pursuit of their education, and continued to meet their goals. Many students also chose El Camino to help them find new career opportunities, taking advantage of the many short-term certificates focused on job training and placement.

Many El Camino programs can be completed in a year or two, showing our students a variety of job possibilities in a world that continues to change and welcomes those who are ready to pursue new challenges.

SHORT-TERM PROGRAMS THAT LEAD TO LONG-TERM BENEFITS El Camino’s Business Division offers a variety of short-term programs that give students cutting-edge education, along with the hands-on training that today’s employers are looking for. Accounting, cloud computing, computer information systems, cybersecurity, marketing, real estate, and retail management are just some of the business certificates that can be completed within two years.

CLOUD COMPUTING CERTIFICATES ECloud computing delivers vast data capacity to organizations without requiring on-site servers. Upon completion of this course, students receive a certificate of achievement and certificate accomplishment from Amazon Web Services (AWS).

RETAIL MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE In this completely online course, students can earn a retail management certificate (RMC) of achievement in less than one year. Endorsed by the Western Association of Food Chains (WAFC).

ENTREPRENEURIAL STUDIES CERTIFICATE Students can become a competitive entrepreneur or improve their existing small business with this six-course certificate.

ACCOUNTING CERTIFICATES Short-term certificate programs in accounting prepares students for new careers in business and tax preparation.

CYBERSECURITY CERTIFICATE Students can discover a direct pathway to entry-level jobs with a cybersecurity certificate of achievement. This course prepares students to analyze computer networks, identify possible threats, and implement protective measures to prevent cyberattacks.

SOCIAL JUSTICE CENTER PLANNED Members of El Camino’s Associated Students Organization, Inter-Club Council, and Student Equity Advisory Council are establishing a new Social Justice Center on campus. This student-driven initiative is designed to promote equity and a sense of belonging. The Social Justice Center is scheduled to open this Spring and will enhance the learning of equity, diversity, and inclusivity issues through meaningful workshops, guest speakers, and other activities that promote social justice.

COMMUNITY PARTNERS HELP WARRIOR PANTRY SERVE STUDENTS

Offering essential food items along with fresh fruits and vegetables, the Warrior Pantry remained open during the college’s temporary closure and continues to serve students twice weekly via a convenient drive-thru and walk-up distribution program. Warrior Pantry has logged more than 6,150 student visits in 2021. Support from the college and the community in the past year was critical to the pantry’s success:: • E l Camino College Foundation received community donations totaling nearly $145,000 in support of the Warrior Pantry.

• W hole Foods Inc. distributed food through a special partnership with ECC’s Retail Management Certificate program.

• L umenSparQ Inc. donated a portable commercial freezer, in addition to a cash donation through its Lumenary program.

• El Camino staff and faculty donated food and personal care items throughout 2021.

• L .A. County Supervisor Holly Mitchell sponsored a special on-campus food distribution through the Warrior Pantry, in addition to helping other agencies.

• E CC was one of eight area organizations to join the Southern California Gas Company for the 2021 “Fueling Our Communities” program.

• T y Urabe and Drew Sasaki completed their Eagle Scout project by building heavy-duty wooden carts and donating food and toiletries.

• T he Riviera Garden Club delivered an entire 1964 Ford Mustang convertible full of donated food and toiletry items collected by club members.

• T he National Charity League Beachside Chapter held several non-perishable food and toiletry collection drives, securing total donations valued at nearly $10,000.

• C hicken of the Sea donated canned tuna and other packaged seafood products to the new Warrior Pantry Football Cupboard to provide student-athletes with healthy and protein-rich snacks.

• The Arrowheart Foundation made a generous in-kind donation.
