Chairmans report by sue Jones Good morning, and another fine morning it is too, it looks like we are over the cold wet weather and into spring at log last.

The trip to Cordoba is just around the corner and I hope those going will have a wonderful time, it really is a beautiful place during the Patios. For those of you who are catching the bus at Mis Tapitas, the pick up will be just after 07:00 as the bus will make it’s first stop at the Repsol petrol station.

I ask you all to please read the information on page 6, this is most important and affects us all.

Also please note, as of 14th May, Meson Sara will not open until 12:00, therefore our Friday opening times will move to 12:00 13:00 from Friday 17th May. We now have the Menu del Dia at El Charco confirmed for July 18th and tickets will be on sale from this Friday.

We are still waiting on confirmation for the date of the trip to Guaro for their Noche de la Luna, this should be published in next month’s newsletter.

The Seville trip is now full with those who have paid their deposits but we will be happy to put your name down on a reserve list!

I hope to see you next Monday where will will be taught CPR and first aid with Jason Bland.

april meeting by alan impey April’s monthly meeting, as always, incorporated the ElValle Annual General Meeting or A:G:M: This has traditionally been a less well attended meeting than most. It seems the term A.G.M. scares people off but there is no reason why it should.

In an attempt to encourage more members to attend, this years meeting incorporated a Scottish Dancing demonstration hosted by George and Hazel and a free prize draw for members only.

Sadly we still only attracted 44 members, well down on usual monthly meetings. The A.G.M part of the meeting only ever takes 10 to 15 minutes maximum so folk should not be put off!! A thought!!!!!!! “It’s a pity the cash box does not reach €500.00 on A.G.M night then the few of us attending have a better chance of going home flush. L.O.L (for the uninitiated Laugh Out Loud.)

Sue opened the meeting and reflected on all 2018/2019 had thrown up in the way of trips/events etc and thanked all the committee for their efforts throughout the year and and then thanked the committee members who were standing down, the members standing for a further year and the two new committee members Keith Herring and Martyn Higgins.

Sue also announced that this would probably be her last year as Chairperson!!!!!!!!!

Once the accounts had been approved, the committee elected and so forth it was time for a short break before George and Hazel began the Scottish Dancing demonstration.

They were ably assisted in this by members of their regular Scottish Dancing Group, Martyn and Rebecca Higgins, Ian and Barbarann Taylor, Elaine and Ted and of course themselves!!!!

Following the dancing it was time for the cash box and €400.00 was on offer but

there was no winner this month.

The free members draw now took place and first prize, a large Bailey’s Easter Egg was won by none other than “She who must be obeyed”!!!!!!

Second prize went to Bethune and third to Peter. Congratulations to all!!!!!! Now where has she hidden that egg, I will find it!!!!!

After some demo dancing it was time for audience participation and there was a surprisingly large number of

volunteers including yours truly and I would like to take the chance to thank Sue, not the chairperson Sue, for her courage in joining me on the floor and risking her feet under mine and also Rebecca who took a similar risk!!!!!

All that remained was for Sue to close the meeting and look forward to another successful year of the El-Valle.

Can I offer my thanks and I am sure thanks of you all to the past and present committee and I hope that we all continue to support them in their efforts during the coming year.

Time for the Guaro walk!!! Terry, Jane and Rubi being our guides for the day. This is probably the eighth year that the walk has featured in the history of El-Valle walks!!!!!

It was a glorious day, bright sunshine, a gentle breeze, albeit a tad cool but perfect walking weather.

Twenty one of us assembled in the car park of the restaurant at Guaro which was our start/finish point and also our eating place.

Terry quickly sorted out who was eating, (all of us) and what our preferences were in the food department. Just as we were about to depart on the walk another car arrived, (late) and we were joined by Sue and Roger making our total up to twenty three. Whilst Terry sorted out their food choices Jane and Rubi set off to start the walk followed by the rest of us. Two of our number, She who must be obeyed and Barbarann, had elected not to do the main walk and had improvised with a walk of their own!!!

We left the pueblo along the road we had driven up and after about a kilometre we turned left onto a broad track which took us through Olive plantations and steadily climbed up above Periana. After plenty of stops we began to descend towards Periana and eventually arrived at the back of the Periana school where we waited until everyone caught up, caught their breath and then off we went with a left turn heading slightly north for a few minutes before going left again, west, and eventually joining our outward route where we went right, north, for a steady return to Guaro.

We were back at the restaurant for 1.15pm for a welcome drink and chat before going into the restaurant to eat.

After the meal, and before anyone left, Ray stood and proposed a vote of thanks to Terry, Jane and Rubi for their efforts in organising the days activities, a thought echoed by myself.

Data protection changes

For the attention of ALL Members of the El Valle Asociacion Due to recent changes to the Data Protection laws throughout Europe. It is now a requirement that you agree as members to the way we handle your personal data. When joining the El Valle Asociacion you completed an application form providing the Asociacion with the information required for us to contact you by Email or by phone, together with your names and addresses etc. We now are required to have your approval to store and use this information.

Therefore to comply with these changes under the Data Protection Laws we need EACH and EVERY member to complete a NEW CLUB MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION FORM. There will be no fee or issue of a new membership cards, these will stay the same until the end of 2019. Your permission to hold and use your contact information is all we require.

So please can ALL of you attend either one of our club meetings or visit us at Meson Sara, Puente don Manuel on a Friday between 12:00 and 13.00am to fill in, sign and tick a box with your permission on the new forms. These will be available from May 1st onwards. We would like to complete this as soon as possible.

La Termica cultural centre hosts a day centered on Fashion Revolution Week, an event that aims to showcase and promote sustainable

The “noche en blanco” celebrations count as on of the favourite events in Malaga. On Saturday

You’ll get a number of points for your items that you can then use to swap for others from 7pm onwards.

MUSICAL EVENTS Verdi classic - opera fans are in for a treat when one of Verdi’s bestloved operas, Othello, arrives in Malaga. Friday 3rd May at 9 pm and Sunday 5th May at 7pm at the Cervantes Theatre. Tickets from €24.

Cossak legends - some 60 artists, muscians, dancers and acrobats take to the stage at the Cervantes

Theatre on Tuesday 7th May at 8pm for an evening of legendary Cossak entertainment. Tickets drom €14.

Malaga Jazz - local saxophonist Daniel Torres plays with his sextet on Sunday 26th May at the Cervantes Theatre when they present his latest album, Statement One. The band includes Perico Sambeat, also on the sax, Peter Bernstein on the guitar, Sri Hanuraga on the piano, Romeu Tristao on bass and Joao Lopes on drums. Tickets from €12.

Hotel Habana Show - Cuban music, dance and acrobatics based loosley around the stories of guests at the hotel. In the Recinto Ferial from 21st May to 2nd June.

Local Election Voting Day is Sunday 26th May 9 am to 8 pm How to Vote The Spanish Voting system uses proportional representation. This means that in Spain EVERY SINGLE vote counts. The more votes a party gets, the more councillors that party will have to represent YOUR interests.

So please, please vote.

Each Party will have drawn up an Election List of people it wants as their councillors.

After all the votes have been counted, each Party will be allocated a number of councillors that correspond to the number of votes that Party has received.

The person at the top of the Party’s Election List will become the Mayor if that Party has enough councillors elected. You are not allowed to change the order of the people listed.

DO NOT MARK OR WRITE ON THE VOTING SLIP IN ANY WAY otherwise your vote will be null & void.

Often some of the Parties will have visited your house to leave their Election Pamphlet which will outline the breadth & experience of the person at the top of their list (who may become Mayor), as well as setting out their programme for the next 4 years.

They will also leave an envelope marked CONCEJALES/AS (Spanish for Councillors). In it you will find their Party’s Election List. Once you have decided which Party you wish to support, take the envelope with that Party’s Election List to where the Election is taking place. There is no need to seal it.

If you forget your list you will find all the lists of the various Parties and plenty of envelopes in booths at the entrance to the election hall. Again I urge you NOT TO MARK OR WRITE ON THE VOTING SLIP. Take the envelope to the Returning Officer who will be standing by a large metal Ballot Box. Show your passport or driving licence as identification. (It MUST have your photo and full name shown). Drop your envelope in the Ballot Box. If you require a postal vote or want more information please contact me.

News from sat.co by dick atterbury Some four years ago I wrote an article of which the subject was “Death o the Scart lead.” This today is so much more important as many of the manufactures are not including this item on TVs or other items. It is time now to be very aware that if you are buying a new TV or Satellite box, DVD player you may not be able to connect them other than HDMI. While we are on the subject HDMI it stands for High Definition Multimedia Interface. I always say that it must have been an American to invent that phrase.

I have had a question about the new range of TVs showing they are capable of displaying 4K or 8K. This is some of the new technology; however some TV broadcasting will not be available in these standards for a few years. SKY broadcasting is only just starting some transmis-

sions in 4K. So again choose carefully no point in spending extra when the only way is by using perhaps a 4K DVD player to get the quality of picture. It’s a bit like the introduction of Blueray players and Discs.

The next is connecting USB to another Cable such as HDMI. It is possible with an isolator box.

Remember that all USB cables carry a 5 Volt DC current and this could cause damage if not isolated or handled properly.

Another question that pops up from time to time is the use of external audio equipment. The modern way to do this is with an Optical Audio fibre cable. Most modern TVs now have an Optical Audio output connection. By connecting the correct cable the audio output is improved. The cable are cheap too.

We are always being asked can we connect one thing to another. The most common is HDMI to SCART. Yes, this is possible with an adaptor but remember you will lose the picture and sound quality that the HDMI cable was designed for.

The latest developments in IPTV are really good all in High definition. Dozens of channels and that all important 14 Days catch up.
