Chairmans report by sue Jones Forgive me, I couldn’t resist a link to my homeland roots. St David’s Day is a very special day for all of us from Wales and is celebrated throughout the country with food laughter and song. Back to El Valle business, our combined Walk with a Menu del Dia went down well with over 50 people in attendance and a very good time was had by all in the beautiful sunshine. We still have places for Petanque so come and book you place either
to play or to enjoy the meal only, it;s up to you. The trip to Cordoba for the Patios is just about full and we are in the process of arranging a visit to a Bodega in Montilla on the way home where will will have a guided tour, in English, and a tasting afterwards for an extra cost of €9 pp. We will need to know in advance how many would be interested in this visit.. You will see from the What's On page that June is currently blank, however we are in the process of
looking at the possibility of another Hog Roast or something similar, so check the website for any updates and further details will be in the next newsletter. Also we hope to be able to offer a trip to Guaro for the candlelight festival in September, more on this at a later date. Many have already expressed interest in the overnight trip to Seville in December, so if you are interested in joining us you can put your name down without commitment.

january meeting by alan impey At the end of a beautiful sunny winter’s day about 50 members journeyed to the Camping Bar for the month’s regular get together. Sue called the meeting to order and started by explaining that there were only 4 committee members present and thanking others, in particular Yvonne, for stepping in and helping out tonight. She went on to point out that without enough members on the committee it would become more difficult to arrange the range of activities we have all become used to, so come on people – think about standing for election as committee members at April’s AGM. It was also reported that the evening’s entertainment was to be a solo performance by “A” as “L” fought the horse and the horse won!! and was in hospital. We wish Lorraine a speedy recovery and hope she will be able to entertain us some other time. Sue went through the “What’s On” list in some detail, the key points being Numbers for the overnight Cordoba trip on 13 May are needed by the hotel/coach company before the end of the month. It will be a great opportunity to visit the city and the patios with English speaking guides.
The June monthly meeting (3rd) will be members only as the British Consul from Malaga has agreed to return post-Brexit to give an update on our position as residents and property owners in Spain. Look forward to an entertaining and informative talk from Charmaine and her team. A provisional list has been opened for an overnight trip to Seville on 3rd December to see the Andalucian capital’s Christmas lights and kick off your Christmas celebrations. After the normal break to refill glasses Alan gave us a good performance of well known songs from our younger years and even had them dancing in the aisles. Well done Alan but I did have Kenny Rogers’ “The Gambler” running through my head for several days after (Oh no, it’s back again).
The draw for “the box”, which contained €240 followed, but none of those whose numbers were selected managed to find the right key. The meeting ended at 9pm.

February walk & menu del dia by ALAN IMTo start with “I was robbed” The El-Valle walk takes place on the second Thursday of the month and is always followed by a meal or menu del dia!!! For some time now El-Valle has been offering a “menu del dia” at selected locations and this has proved very popular and is totally independent of any other El-Valle event. By my reasoning I have now been deprived of a day out as two events on two separate dates have been combined into one and on the same date!!!!!!! Right that’s all for my moaning!!!!!, February’s walk was routed and led by Stewart and Elaine and started on Lidl’s car park, Algarrobo at 11am Thursday 14th February 2019.
Twenty four walkers turned up at the start on a perfect walking day, clear, bright, sunny skies and no wind to speak of. We set off on time and made our way down to the Paseo, (promenade) and followed this east (towards Torrox) for a short way before stopping to allow stragglers to catch up as we were then going to turn inland. At this point I was busy counting numbers walking and noticed a group ahead of me also stopped!!! Mistakenly I thought they were our walkers and I went to them to count them into our numbers before I suddenly realised I did not know any of them and I beat a hasty retreat feeling suitably foolish!!!!! We made our way inland onto broad campo tracks, nothing too hard and at a gentle pace with fre-
quent stops to ensure that everyone was accounted for.
After heading inland, (north) under the A7 motorway we again turned right, (east) and paralleled the coast again with stops for catch up and photographs before dropping down right (south) to rejoin the coast path and a return towards Torre del Mar, (west) and to arrive at our restaurant Pippo’s shortly after one pm. Walk Details. Distance 7.5kms, Total Time 2hrs 3mins. Moving time 1hr 43 mins. Stopped time 20mins Average speed 4.1 km per hour. Menu del Dia Pippo’s Algarrobo was the venue for the el valle menu del dia and as previously explained the venue for the meal following the walk. We have used this venue before for the el-valle menu del dia and hopefully it would be as good as it was then. We had set the staff an enormous task as there were fifty of us wanting to eat and none of the food had been pre-ordered but we were selecting from their Thursday menu del dia options. Even so we had several choices for each course. Service was, as before, exceptional and orders were taken efficiently and in a friendly way by the staff. In spite of the large numbers of our group the staff also had to cater for their normal cliental and they coped admirably and I do not know of any dissatisfied customers from our group and as far as I am concerned I enjoyed my choice of food. Many thanks to Stewart and Elaine for the walk and their involvement in the menu del dia and also to the other committee members involved in the organising of the meal.

International Driving Permits Before the UK leaves the EU on 29 March 2019, holders of UK licences can drive in all EU countries and the European Economic Area (EEA) without the need for any additional documentation. If the UK leaves the EU on 29 March without a deal, UK licence holders may also need to obtain an International Driving Permit (IDP) to drive in EU/EEA countries. There’s more than one type of IDP available and the type of IDP you may need in some countries will change on 28 March. So, before you travel, make sure you check: ·whether the country or countries you’ll be driving in require an IDP ·which type of IDP you need – if you are travelling through two or more countries, you may need more than one IDP You can obtain an IDP for £5.50 from 2,500 Post Offices across the UK. Driving licences If you’re a UK licence holder living in the UK, there’s no need to change your driving licence after 29 March.
UK residents in the EU If you are resident in an EU country after the UK leaves the EU, you may not automatically have the right to exchange your UK licence for a driving licence from the country you’re living in and you may need to take a new driving test. If you are already resident in an EU/EEA country, you can avoid this by exchanging your UK driving licence in the member state you live in before 29 March. UK licence holders who do this will be able to exchange that licence back to a UK licence if they return to live in the UK at a later date.
EU licence holders Arrangements for EU licence holders who are visiting or living in the UK will not change after 29 March. The UK does not require visiting motorists to hold a separate IDP to guarantee the recognition of their driving licence. This covers EU licence holders coming to the UK on holiday or driving on business. EU licence holders visiting the UK can drive here as long as their licence remains valid. EU licence holders who are or become a UK resident can drive here with a valid licence until they reach the age of 70, or until three years after coming to live in the UK, whichever is later. There are different restrictions in place for those who have a licence to drive lorries and buses. For EU licence holders who passed their test in the EU or EEA, the UK will continue to exchange their licence as we do currently. EU licence holders who passed their test outside the EU or EEA may have restrictions on licence exchange. As such, they may need to take a driving test to obtain a UK licence. Motor Insurance Green Cards Green Cards are an international certificate of motor insurance. The EU is part of a Green Card-free circulation area. Currently, you do not need a motor insurance Green Card (to drive a UK registered vehicle in these countries). In the event that there is no EU Exit deal and the UK and EU reach no separate agreement, drivers of UK registered vehicles will need to carry a motor insurance Green Card when driving in the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Andorra, Serbia and Switzerland. You can contact your vehicle insurance provider to obtain a motor insurance Green Card.

Once you have accepted that you would prefer to get your TV from the internet rather than from the available satellites here are some tips for good reception. First ensure you have a good internet provider. Many internet boxes will operate as low as 2 Mb download speed but this has to be constant. If your system suffers from slowing down at various times you need to talk to your provider. There are two other things and one is latency in the signal ( a slowing from the network) and two the ping time. The ping time is when the local server providing your down load gets lazy at various times. The later can be tested using a speed test app on your computer. In general terms the ping time should be less than 100 milli seconds.
Okay so now we have a good internet service. The next thing to look at is what is going on in your house. Are the children upstairs using computers and downloading video or Skype to friends all sucking on the service? Are your iphones connected and using the network? So what I am saying go around and switch a few things off. This way you may be able to watch your favourite programme without all that buffering. Internet packages are not all the same so talk to your provider and ask for prices in advance to suit your needs and your pocket.
