Chairmans report by carol Welcome to the March edition of the newsletter, after having been away for so long it is lovely to come back and see all the almond trees in flower and looking beautiful.

two trips the first to Motril later this month and then our main Two night, three day trip to Carmona and Osuna which I’m sure we will all enjoy.

I would like to say thank you to Sue for taking over for me whilst Ben and I were away for three months.

We had a fabulous time but I am now back at the helm and looking forward to the rest of the year.

Also, we have been invited to take part in a Skittles Tournament against the regular “Skittlers” who meet and play at Bar Atila on a Wednesday, after the skittles there will be lunch at Bar Atila, so even if you don’t want to play you can come along and enjoy the lunch.

meeting was on Monday 6th February 2017 at the usual venue, Camping Bar, and the night’s theme was as in the heading, "Dancing with David".

David had once again offered to entertain us and educate us in the finer points of Line Dancing!!!!!

The meeting was opened by Sue with the usual announcements of forthcoming events all to be found in the news letter or web site and also at Meson Sara's on a Friday morning.

Sue also welcomed back Carol to the fold after her recent break.

A somewhat disappointing 40 members turned up for the meeting but the lack of numbers did not prevent the evening being a success.

After Sue's opening of the meeting a short break was held to purchase tickets for events etc and also to visit the bar for refills!!! before David was called upon to strut his stuff and instruct us how to strut ours!!!!!

He took the participants through several dances, firstly without music and then with and it was

obvious that the dancers were enjoying themselves as were the watching audience!!!

At

8.45pm the dancing halted and Sue announced the cash box draw with a prize of €160.00 on offer but no one managed to draw the all important winning key and the prize rolls over and increases to next month.

A note on the cash box; the rules have been changed in that in future when the prize reached €500.00, or more, it will be drawn until it is won.

Sue then closed the meeting and it goes without saying that thanks are extended to all who helped make the evening work.

One final word!!!! At times when David was trying to call out dance instructions it was sometimes difficult for him to be heard because of loud conversations being held and whilst everyone is entitled to enjoy their evening as they see fit a little consideration for those putting themselves forward to entertain us is not too much to ask.

A reminder about your 2017 Membership As hopefully all of you know by now our membership year now runs from January 1st to December 31st. If you have not yet renewed your membership for 2017, then now is the time to do it.

The new box from Vu is getting a lot of praise. Feedback from those with hearing difficulties, say that it is great with the sub titles. The auto labelling of recorded programmes along with a full electronic programme guide helps too. If you would like a demonstration please call and we will show you what it can do.

A subject that comes up regularly is the USB cable. Customers often ask for an HDMI to a USB cable. This product cannot exist

as the USB cable carries a DC voltage of 5 volts. The HDMI cable cannot carry a voltage. It can be done but it has to go via a converter which can be costly.

This then isolates the 5volts DC. If you are a group chairman or group organiser why not ask us to do a demonstration for you on the latest TV technology. We are always prepared to talk about what is happening in the TV world and you may be quite surprised. We don’t charge anything. We always say advice is free.

February walk

The El-Valle walk for February took place on the 9th February and was routed and led by yours truly, assisted by she who must be obeyed a.k.a. Maureen.

The starting point was by Venta San Miguel on the coast road from Nerja on the Torrox side.

Eighteen walkers turned up at the start although one had to turn back shortly after starting due to health problems but they were there for the meal after the walk.

From the start we headed north, (inland) following a river/stream bed which at points still had water.

We eventually went under the A7 motorway turning right, (east) to parallel the motorway before eventually heading half left, (north east) to descend into a hamlet before beginning a continuous and at times steep climb still in a north easterly direction.

We then reached the end of the climb and turned right, (south) to continue a ridge walk followed by a descent (south) and passing again under the A7 motorway and continuing south and eventually joining our outward route to return to our starting point.

The meal was at the Venta San Miguel, our start, where the staff made us very welcome.

Carrying gas canisters in the car Gas is used all year round in Spanish homes, and although piped supplies are becoming more popular, many people still rely on bottled gas for their heating and cooking needs.

Although the gas supply companies will deliver the bottles to you home, many people find it more convenient to pick up their own supply at the many outlets across the country, exchanging the empty bottles for full ones, but in order to do this, we have to think about the safety and security implications of carrying a potentially lethal canister.

At home, care should be taken as to where they are stored, in well ventilated places away from heat and ignition sources, far away from toxic materials and always in the upright position.
