Chairmans report by sue Jones Hello, I hope you are enjoying the hot weather, but are being sensible about sunscreen protection and keeping hydrated, I cannot stress how important it is to keep your fluid intake up, and by fluids I don’t mean alcoholic fluids!!!! All jokes aside, keep cool and look after yourself. As you will see the Hog Roast was a great success and our thanks go to AxarCaterers who did an excellent job and to Mis Tapitas ( Billy and

Isabella) for allowing us to use their venue, also to Liquid Lunch for the entertainment. We have now confirmed the Valencia trip with the coach company and we now require your second payments please, to those who only paid the holding deposit of €25 we would ask that you pay a minimum of €100 per person as the coach company need to pay the hotel. Thank you for your cooperation.

Don’t forget there is still time to book the Menu del Dia at Finca Oasis las Palmeras, on 19th July, it is a new venue and deserves our support. There are a few places left on the Almunecar trip on the 15th August and we still have places for the Skittles Tournament which is great fun. I look forward to seeing you on Monday night.

TRIP TO VALENCIA

What was expected to be a quiet El-Valle monthly meeting last night, Monday 4th July, turned out to be anything but. It was widely known that another function was taking place that would be attended by a fair few El-Valle members. However, 65 plus members turned up for the meeting the main event of which was to be a Mr and Mrs quiz based on the old television show, old being the operative word when some of the questions were asked. Sue, as usual, opened the meeting with a request that whenever new members attended, if they were on their own, would regular members try to make them welcome and invite them to join them at their tables and such. Hopefully this will happen because we are a friendly bunch really!!! After a run through of past present and future events there was a short break before the fun commenced. The El-Valle Mr and Mrs followed the TV format where a couple, either man and wife or partners were asked three questions separately as to what the other would say or do in certain circumstances and then the an-

swers were compared to see if they were the same. The three couples, Julie and Louis, Natasha and Frank and Nora and Derek performed admirably and were amusing with their perceived knowledge of each other but the show was stolen by our compere, Bethune, who had us all laughing with her presentation and continual mix up between the names of Frank and Derek and to be fa ir

to Bethune she was laughing herself at how it was all going. After the three couples had all performed there was a break before it was decided to repeat the process with the same three couples and different questions. This was perhaps a step too far or possibly there should have been less questions the second time round. A few members left before the end and when two tie breaks were needed there were calls of "let there be two

winners" This does not alter the fact that there was a lot of hard work put into the event and it was a success but perhaps twenty minutes or so too long. The eventual winners were Natasha and Frank, (or was it Derek,) Natasha is going to have be watched at El-Valle events!!!!! In three recent events now she has been on the winning team!!! The Picture Quiz, the Skittles Event and now Mr and Mrs. Thanks to all the contestants as I know firsthand that it is a little daunting to be asked the questions in front of an audience. This is because I and she who must be obeyed took part in the same event many years ago but we walked away with the booby prize which still sits proudly on the shelf in my bathroom!!!!! After the show it was time for the box which stood at â‚Ź515.00 meaning it would be drawn until it was won. The lucky winner was found very quickly after only a handful of attempts and walked away with the cash

box contents. At 9.25pm, somewhat later than normal, Sue closed the meeting. Once again thanks in particular to Bethune for an entertaining evening.

Led by Jan and Barry. Walk will start from Pepe Molinos car park in Almayate. Turn right from Torre del Mar and it’s the first car park on the left. Walk starts at 7 pm.

Led by Jeanette and Chris Mogg. Start TBA 11:00

OCTOBER 11th

Led by Stewart an Elaine. Start at Benagalbon fountain roundabout (west of Rincon de la Victoria) and walk to Malaga. You can either bus back or for those strong ones, walk back. We need an earlier start for this one, so the walk starts at 10:30

JUNE walk BY martyn higgins Thursday 14th June dawned with both the walks organiser and the usual “Roving Reporter” away on holiday so I was tasked with writing this report. Eleven am. saw eighteen walkers and one dog (Rubi) assemble at the underground car park in Canillas de Aceituno from where Graham and Sue Smith led us up (and I mean UP) through the flower filled streets of the town. Very pretty …. almost like a little “Patios de Cordoba”. We soon reached the top of the town where we all took a breather and admired the panoramic views towards Lake Viñuela and beyond.

After leaving the town we walked for a short while on one of the campo tracks... Then Graham led us to one of the many mule tracks above Canillas, and I'm sure you guessed it, lots more UP!!

where we set off on the return leg of the walk going downhill for a change to where we joined a recently cleared old track which led us eventually back to the town. The eighteen walkers were joined by eight various friends or partners at La Sociedad restaurant for a very well earned lunch. Walk stats. 5kms. Long : Time 2 hours ( Moving 1.25 hours. Resting 45 mins.) Height gain: 140 meters ( equivalent to climbing 45 flights of stairs!!!!!)

Four or five stops later ( just to admire the view of course) we reached a second campo track

Hog roast by alan impey Wednesday 27th June 2018 and time for another of the popular elValle Hog Roast's!!!!!!! We had returned to Miss Tapitas (Billy's Bar) for the venue and it does seem to offer plenty of room both for the event itself and abundant parking. We had a start time of 7.30pm and everyone arrived in plenty of time on a lovely summer evening. Tables had been arranged in large groups from 10 upwards and it seemed that everyone managed to find seats with particular friends and such.

This was required as we did not have sole use of Billy's Bar and he was open to his normal clientele as well as El-Valle.

apple sauce, salad, spicy bean salad new potatoes and a bread bun, some of you may say bread cake or bap, depending on your country of origin in the UK. (apologies to any non-uk ex pats!!!!) Service went seamlessly and my table was fortunate to be third in the calling order, great as I was hungry. I certainly enjoyed my food and the supply was sufficient that there was no problem with "seconds" Whilst we were eating Liquid Lunch entertained us with a good varied selection of songs. Once everything was cleared away Liquid Lunch went into top gear and again played songs that were very familiar, some not so and many more to dance to.

A change from other El-Valle Hog Roast's was that the Hog had been roasted off-site so we did not have the chance to see it slowly turning on its spit!!! a pity really as it did make for good photographs. Eighty five members/guests attended and this seemed like a good manageable number.

Whilst we were all enjoying pre-dinner drinks we could watch AxarCaterers setting up ready to serve us and also our entertainment for the evening, Liquid Lunch, were also preparing their instruments and doing sound tests. As each member/guest arrived they were greeted by Stewart and Louis who gave out our "meal tickets" with a warning, "no ticket, no meal".

When everything was set up we were called out table by table to collect our food. The quantity and quality was very good, there was of course the pork and the crackling,

It turned out that one of our newer El-Valle members, Louis, was celebrating a birthday and Julie, his wife, requested a particular song for him. Whilst talking about Julie and Louis I will repeat something I said in an earlier report!!! since arriving at ElValle they have both thrown themselves into all the activities that are on offer and they are an asset to ElValle. On that note a big thank you to all the committee for yet another successful El-Valle event. We actually left around 11.30pm but because we lived reasonably close to the event we could enjoy the music from home until it finished shortly after mid-night!!!

1st DAY: PUENTE DON MANUEL (MIS TAPITAS) - >> VALENCIA Departure at 7.30 am from Mis Tapitas (Puente Don Manuel), stop on the road for coffee and breakfast. Free time for lunch en route (not included), continuation of the trip arrival in VALENCIA Around 18.00h. Dinner and overnight at the hotel. 2nd DAY: VALENCIA. Breakfast at the hotel and departure to visit Valencia with local guide in English, where we will visit, The Fallas Museum, Basilica, Merchants' Market that is a World Heritage Site, Central Market, National Museum of Ceramics, City Hall etc ... Free afternoon and evening. 3rd DAY: VALENCIA- AND CITY OF ARTS AND SCIENCES. Breakfast at the hotel and departure to visit The City of Arts and Sciences (entrance included Ocenografic + Hemisferic + Museum), it is considered the largest in Europe. Entry included. Afternoon and evening free 4th DAY: ALBUFERA- TOURIST BUS TOUR WITH BOAT AND MENU PAELLA IN THE ALBUFERA Breakfast at the hotel and departure to visit the Albufera National Park. We will go by boat observing the abundant native migratory fauna, as well as the aquatic vegetation. Lunch paella menu included.

5th DAY: VALENCIA- CARTAGENA- PUENTE DON MANUEL (MIS TAPITAS) Breakfast and departure to visit CARTAGENA with local guide, we will visit the most important of the city, among it, we will visit the remains of the Roman Theater and (entrance included). Free time for lunch and departure to the place of origin, Brief stops on route, arrival and end of service.
