appy New Year to you all, I hope you all enjoy a Happy and Healthy

2017.

We hope to have many events and activities lined up for you this coming year but, as you may have noticed, it has been very difficult to forward plan as we are short of committee

members, and when some are away it leaves us very thin on the ground!! Please give some thought to joining us as we really want to keep providing you with a full programme of events and activities this coming year.

I do hope as many as possible of you come to the January meeting, (PLEASE REMEMBER IT IS

ON THE 9TH THIS MONTH), as we have a visit from the British Consulate, it would be nice to show them what a strong Asociacion we are. The meeting will be open to non members as well.

Also, due to the visit of the Consulate, we will not be drawing the box this month.

Monday 5th December 2016 and years last El Valle monthly meeting, a Christmas Special, and, contents willing, a Cash Box Draw until we had a winner!!!!!

All the above and, of course, the eagerly awaited once yearly appearance of the El-Valle choir!!!!!!!!

Sue started proceedings rolling, ON TIME, at 7.30pm and 70 plus members were on hand to hear her remind us all that membership needed renewing and she made a plea for members to stand and put themselves forward to assist as committee members next year.

Committee numbers had fallen, for genuine reasons, but to provide the range of activities that the El-Valle membership had grown to expect required more help with the organisation.

The evening then moved on to the Christmas Quiz, hosted by Sue, and each team had to find the answers to forty Christmas based quiz questions.

No one achieved 40 but the winning team managed a creditable 34 and the team containing yours truly were close with 30. !!!!!!

Next it was Mince Pies and Drinks courtesy of the ElValle funds and served by the committee members that were in attendance.

It was soon time for the El-Valle choir to make an appearance and the stage was set was set for a fine rendition of some the most popular Christmas Carols, accompanied, for the first time, on keyboard, by our very own Trevor " Liberace" Huckwell.

Finally to end the evening it was time to find a winner for the cash box contents of â‚Ź1,000.40.

There were 33 keys to choose from and it took until number 17 before a winner was found, congratulations Dorothy, commiserations to yours truly who, despite two attempts, failed to select that all important key!!!!

Thanks again to all the committee members for their hard work through the year especially Sue who often seems to be wearing many hats as she works tirelessly to make things work.

.

Audience participation was encouraged and a good time was had by all especially when half way through the program we had a surprise guest!!!!

ELVIS had entered the building and performed some of his well remembered songs. (photo's attached).

December WALK by alan impey The last el-valle walk of the year took place on Thursday 8th December and was routed and led by Mike Larner, more about Frances, his wife later!!!!

From 10.45 am to 11.00 am we started to arrive at the meeting point, a car parking area just below Rubite village.

In all 15 walkers turned up which along with Mike and Frances gave a total of 17.

Mike had been at the meeting point early to ensure no one missed it and when it was apparent that no one else would be arriving Mike, now joined by Frances, explained how the day would work.

As the day was a Spanish bank holiday and given the fact we were well into the countryside they had decided that the traditional meal following the walk should be held at their home which would be passed about 15/20 minutes from the end of the walk. Frances was to cater for us all and she had bravely decided this not knowing how many would turn up; there has been in excess of 30 on some walks!!!!!!

Frances left to return home to continue her preparation and Mike started us off on the walk with instructions that plentiful stops were the order of the day.

Speaking of the day, it was glorious, blue sky, sunshine no wind, perfect walking weather. Mike led us onwards and upwards but true to his word there were plenty of breaks.

The views from the outset were marvellous but improved even more as we gained height. At one point on the track Mike stopped us and gave an option to detour left to see the view from a spur up high or to wait on the main track whilst those climbing the spur returned.

Once again the view from on high was great.

The walk was circular and having started north/easterly we did begin to turn south westerly and in no time at all we had distant views of our destination, Mike and Frances home.

Frances must have worked very hard and the standard of the food supplied more than matched the table layout!!!!!! and all 15 of us were truly appreciative of the effort put into the day by firstly Frances and of course Mike.

Following the meal it was up to individuals when they left and Mike had already pointed out the route back to the cars some 15/20 minutes away.

A big thank you to both Mike and Frances.

The walk itself was 6.27 km in length with a moving time of 1hr. 38mins and a stopped time of 37mins. (not including the lunch stop) making a total time length of 2hrs. 15mins, for the walk.

Mike did advise us we had to slow down as he had instructions that we had not to arrive before 1pm!!!!!

We timed it to the minute and were welcomed by Frances, pointed to

FEBRUARY 9TH

Led by Alan & Maureen Impey. Start take A7 from Torre towards Nerja. Take first Nerja exit to wards coast and then take coast road back towards Torre. After the Repsol garage look for Venta San Miguel on right and park there for start. (Also a garden center there) at 11.00am

MARCH 9TH

Led by Douglas and Jane Johnson. Walk will be out of Viñuela and lunch at Venta La Vina

A healthy option, chicken and chorizo jambalaya INGREDIENTS 1 tbsp olive oil 2 chicken breast, chopped 1 onion , diced 1 red pepper, thinly sliced 2 garlic cloves, crushed 75g chorizo , sliced 1 tbsp Cajun seasoning 250g long grain rice 400g can plum tomato 350ml chicken stock

METHOD Heat the oil in a large frying pan with a lid and brown the chicken for 5-8 mins until golden. Remove and set aside.

Tip in the onion and cook for 3-4 mins until soft. Then add the pepper, garlic, chorizo and Cajun seasoning, and cook for 5 mins more.

Stir the chicken back in with the rice, add the tomatoes and stock. Cover and simmer for 20-25 mins until the rice is tender.

MESSAGE FROM SAT.CO BY DICK ATTERBURY This time I would just like to spend a few minutes talking about some Internet devices some people are talking about or asking questions about.

First, the Amazon Fire Stick, this device plugs into your Smart TV and connects to the internet in order for you to watch some catch up TV. i.e. iplayer. This will not give you access to live TV. The TV advert is a bit misleading!! You will also need a Virtual Private Network which will cost about ÂŁ5 a month as you are outside the UK. The Now TV Box, this is another of similar ilk which again connects to the internet and allows you to watch some TV programmes.

All we ask is to call us or talk to us before you waste money on some of these devices. Many don’t work in this part of the world without a ghost VPN as mentioned previously.

Next sub titles for the hard of hearing. The testing we were doing for the sub titles is now complete and we are ready to install the units if you would like sub titles please give us a call for a demonstration.

We answer many questions about the Technomate range of satellite receivers. The most common questions are about the recording facilities. Yes you can record two programmes while watching a third. If you would like to see how it is done ask to see a dem-

onstration or visit us at the Tuesday market and we will show you how.

LG have introduced a new range of HD TVs which are super light weight and are nice to look at. Make sure when you make your choice that you check the rating plate to ensure the power consumption is a s low as you would like and that it has the number of connections you would like in regards to USB and HDMI. Tom and I will be available across the holiday period at no additional cost for call outs. Well maybe a mince pie!!!
