Behind every diplomatic title lies a personal story shaped by dreams, challenges, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication. For Ambassador Luis Espinosa Salas, Ecuador’s Consul General in Houston, that story began not with a carefully designed plan, but with a deep curiosity about the world and a sincere desire to serve his country.

Growing up in Ecuador, young Luis was naturally drawn to history, geography, literature, and the social sciences While his father, a physician, envisioned a future in medicine for his son, Luis felt a stronger connection to understanding societies, cultures, and the relationships that unite nations. That passion eventually led him to study Law at the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador, becoming the first lawyer in his family.

At the time, a diplomatic career seemed distant and almost unattainable There was no family tradition in diplomacy, no influential connections, and no established path to follow Yet one person believed in him wholeheartedly: his father.

When Ecuador announced a competitive selection process for the Diplomatic Academy nearly three decades ago, Luis accepted the challenge. The process was rigorous, demanding, and highly competitive. Through discipline, preparation, and perseverance, he earned a place among a select group of candidates and officially began his diplomatic career in 1997

Today, after nearly thirty years of service, he reflects on that moment with gratitude and pride

Throughout his distinguished career, Consul Espinosa has served Ecuador in various capacities, continuously expanding his knowledge and expertise. His commitment to lifelong learning eventually led him to pursue advanced studies in International Relations and later earn a PhD in International Law from the University of Geneva in 2019.

Since beginning his diplomatic career in August 1997, Consul General Luis Espinosa Salas has represented Ecuador in several international postings In 2024, he was appointed with the rank of Ambassador of the Republic. Throughout his distinguished career, he has served twice in Geneva before the United Nations, as well as in Poland, Mexico, and currently in Houston, Texas.

For Consul Espinosa, one of the guiding forces behind his professional journey has always been his family. He recognizes the unwavering support of his wife, Adriana, and their son, Mateo, who have shared the challenges, achievements, joys, and constant mobility that accompany diplomatic life Their encouragement and companionship have been a fundamental source of strength throughout his career

“Representing my country is one of the greatest honors a person can have,” he says. “No other job can compare to carrying the responsibility of representing the Ecuadorian flag, the flag I carry in my heart.”

Yet despite his impressive credentials, what stands out most about him is not the list of accomplishments behind his name, but the humility with which he speaks about service

Every day, the Ecuadorian Consulate in Houston assists citizens with essential services, including passports, powers of attorney, civil registrations, and support for Ecuadorian families living abroad. The Consulate also provides guidance to families navigating difficult circumstances, including migration-related challenges and humanitarian situations.

Some of the most meaningful moments of his career have come not from official ceremonies, but from helping reunite families, supporting loved ones through moments of uncertainty, and offering guidance during times of crisis

The Ecuadorian American Binational Chamber of Commerce in Texas was founded five years ago through the vision, leadership, and determination of a group of Ecuadorian professionals and entrepreneurs committed to the development of our community Its primary purpose was to create opportunities to position Ecuadorian brands, products, and services throughout the State of Texas while opening new pathways for international trade

Driven by our nostalgia for our homeland and our desire to establish an organization that would represent and promote Ecuadorian talent, we decided to unite our efforts, knowledge, and resources to build this project from the ground up. With the contribution of each of its founders, the structure and programs that distinguish our institution today were developed.

From the very beginning, we received invaluable support from the Consulate General of Ecuador in Houston under the leadership of then Consul General, Ambassador Alba Cuello, who believed in our vision and supported our initiatives aimed at strengthening business and commercial development

Our first major challenge was organizing the inaugural Expo during the COVID-19 pandemic Rather than allowing circumstances to hinder our progress, we successfully held the event virtually, transforming it into a successful experience that marked the beginning of a journey of growth and consolidation.

Since then, we have proudly organized the prestigious INNOVA EXPO TRADE annually, as well as the recognition program Latina Women Who Transcend Without Limits. These initiatives have brought together entrepreneurs, investors, professionals, business owners, community leaders, and international delegations

Today, the Chamber has positioned itself as a recognized organization in the field of international trade. We have also strengthened strategic alliances with countries throughout Central America and other regions, with the goal of expanding business opportunities, encouraging market exploration, and generating greater benefits for our members.

We continue to guide and support entrepreneurs, professionals, investors, and business owners so that their products and services can successfully compete in increasingly demanding markets within a multicultural and globalized community.

The alliance has also leveraged Houston's world-class medical landscape to improve global cancer care. United By The Game Draws Nearly 1,800 Attendees and Unites 103 Organizations

As Houston prepares to welcome the world for FIFA World Cup festivities, one event demonstrated exactly why the city is ready for its global moment

United by the Game brought together 1,792 attendees and a coalition of 103 organizations from across the Greater Houston area in what became one of the region's largest networking and community engagement events leading into the World Cup era More than 4,000 people RSVP'd for the event, highlighting the excitement surrounding Houston's growing role on the international stage.

Led by Ivan Sanchez, President and Founder of Houston Millennials, the event united chambers of commerce, nonprofit organizations, business groups, cultural organizations, community leaders, entrepreneurs, and professionals under one roof with a shared mission: to showcase Houston's culture, diversity, business community, and global spirit.

One of the night's most memorable moments came when Texas State Representative Jolanda "Jo" Jones recognized all 103 participating organizations with official Certificates of Legislative Recognition from the Texas House of Representatives, honoring their contributions to Houston and their commitment to community collaboration

Representative Jones also presented a Texas flag that had been flown over the Texas State Capitol to headline supporter Martin Curiman in recognition of his leadership and support of the initiative.

Adding to the significance of the evening, Houston City Controller Chris Hollins was in attendance, joining elected officials, community leaders, and business executives in celebrating Houston's readiness to welcome the world

If there is one thing I have learned throughout my career as a communicator, producer, entrepreneur, and creator of experiences, it is that the most important opportunities in my life did not happen by chance. They came through people.

For years, I heard the phrase, “Your network is your net worth,” but it wasn’t until I founded Let’s Connect that I truly understood the power of genuine connections Today, after hundreds of events, thousands of attendees, and dozens of cities visited, I can confidently say that networking remains one of the most powerful tools for personal and professional growth When we started Let’s Connect, the idea was simple: to create spaces where people could meet, share experiences, and generate business opportunities in an environment that felt more human and authentic. The fourth is to follow up Networking does not end when the event is over In fact, that is where it truly begins A message, a phone call, or a follow-up meeting can make the difference between just another contact and a strategic relationship

The fifth is to build a consistent personal brand Today, people research you before doing business with you. Your digital presence should reflect who you are, what you do, and the value you bring.

One of the most important lessons I have learned as a photographer and videographer is that people rarely remember the camera.

They remember how they felt in the moment.

Over the years, I have come to realize that photography is about much more than creating beautiful images. It is about preserving memories that cannot be recreated. A wedding only happens once A parent’s reaction, a couple’s first dance, a family celebration, or a milestone event becomes part of someone’s story, and once that moment passes, it can never truly be repeated

That responsibility is what first drew me into visual storytelling

As the founder of Greos Vision, I have had the opportunity to work with individuals, families, businesses, musicians, and event organizers who all share one thing in common: they want to remember something meaningful

Every project is different Some clients need photographs that capture emotion Others need video content that helps tell their story to a wider audience. Whether I am documenting a wedding, creating content for a business, filming an event, or capturing aerial drone footage, my goal remains the same: to create something that people will still value years from now

One thing many people do not realize is that photography is not just about pressing a button It requires preparation, communication, and understanding what matters most to the client.

Sometimes the biggest challenge is balancing expectations while making sure everyone feels seen and valued.

But those challenges are also what make the work rewarding

The Lessons Houston Taught Me About Reinvention, Entrepreneurship, and Service

When I arrived in Houston in 2003, I had two suitcases, a sixyear-old daughter, and a mixture of excitement, uncertainty, and faith I had left behind Colombia, my television career, and a professional life that had brought me great satisfaction as a journalist

What I did not know at the time was that this city would not only allow me to rebuild my life; it would also teach me the most important lessons I have received as an entrepreneur.

My professional story began long before I arrived in the United States At the age of 17, I was already working in radio, and shortly afterward I began my journalism career at El Heraldo newspaper in Barranquilla Later, I had the opportunity to work in television as a correspondent and presenter for major media outlets in Colombia

I have always loved communication. However, migrating forced me to discover that communication can take many forms and that every stage of life requires new versions of ourselves.

Houston opened its doors to me and allowed me to continue working in journalism from day one. But it also confronted me with challenges I had never imagined.

I arrived without contacts, with limited English, without social media, without GPS, and with the need to adapt quickly to a new culture.

I learned that immigrating means leaving behind the:

“I used to be” to make room for the “I am going to learn ”

Years later, together with my husband Pedro, we made a decision that would change our lives: giving up the security of a job to create our own media company. With less than $1,500, a credit card, and a baby about to be born, we founded Sucesos newspaper. We knew how to do journalism. What we did not know was how to run a business.

That was one of the most important lessons of my life: being good at what you do does not guarantee business success We discovered, sometimes the hard way, that entrepreneurship requires much more than talent Sales, customer service, leadership, finance, taxes, cash flow, strategy, and networking are skills that are just as important as technical expertise

Over time, other projects emerged: Solo Mujeres magazine, the radio news program Sucesos al Mediodía, and a series of events that left a mark on Houston’s Latino community, including Expo Mujer, Tributo a la Mujer Hispana, and Goya Cooking Club.

What began as a need to survive eventually became a platform to connect, educate, and inspire.

My transformation as an entrepreneur was strengthened through educational programs such as Goldman Sachs’ 10,000 Small Businesses and the Business Institute of the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce There, I understood the value of business education and the importance of surrounding yourself with mentors I also learned something fundamental: numbers do not lie and, at times, growth requires making difficult decisions That is why we closed businesses we loved in order to focus on what truly had a future.

The pandemic represented another turning point. While studying digital marketing and redefining my professional path, I faced the most painful loss of my life: the death of my husband in December 2020 In the midst of grief, I realized that my purpose went far beyond running a business My calling was to share with others the lessons I had learned during nearly two decades of entrepreneurship

That is how Emprendiendo con Pasión was born, a community created to help Latino business owners and entrepreneurs understand how the business ecosystem works in the United States and avoid mistakes that can cost years of effort and thousands of dollars.

Today, I lead workshops, conferences, and educational programs because I am convinced that business education changes lives

A business does not grow simply because its owner works harder; it grows when its owner learns more, adapts faster, and develops new skills

That same vision led me to create Emprendiendo con Pasión Business Center, a space designed by an entrepreneur for entrepreneurs The center offers facilities for training programs, networking events, business meetings, corporate events, and professional podcast production, providing small businesses with access to tools that allow them to present themselves professionally without assuming the high costs of other alternatives

Step 1
