Legacy Gala Held in October

The annual Legacy Gala was held in October at the Eisenhower Presidential Library. The theme was “70 Years of Peace and Prosperity,” celebrating the 70th anniversary of Eisenhower’s first term in office.

The keynote address was provided by Dr. Pam Parry, author of Eisenhower: The Public Relations President. Dr. Louis Galambos, editor of The Papers of Dwight David Eisenhower, was recognized as the Eisenhower Legacy Award recipient.

Two sailors from the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) aircraft carrier were also recognized. CTT Kenneth L. Ponnie was awarded the President Eisenhower Leadership Award for outstanding work in his community. ETNC Katherine E. Starkey was awarded the General Eisenhower Leadership Award for performing above and beyond in military duties aboard the ship.

CTT Kenneth L. Ponnie (l) and ENTC Katherine E. Starkey (r) were unable to attend the Gala, however Executive Director, Meredith Sleichter, presented the sailors with their awards during a 24-hour embarkment aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69).
