YOU DID IT!

Thanks to your support, the Eisenhower Foundation met two matching gift challenges. On Giving Tuesday, we raised $10,782 and received a $10,000 matching gift from The BeachEdwards Family Foundation. Also thanks to you, we exceeded our year-end goal by raising $63,625. This secured a $50,000 matching gift to Foundation’s endowment by a fellow Friend of the Foundation. We can’t thank you enough for your support, which allows us to continue the important work of passing Ike’s legacy on to future generations!

Legacy Gala Held in October The annual Legacy Gala was held in October at the Eisenhower Presidential Library. The theme was “70 Years of Peace and Prosperity,” celebrating the 70th anniversary of Eisenhower’s rst term in of ce. The keynote address was provided by Dr. Pam Parry, author of Eisenhower: The Public Relations President. Dr. Louis Galambos, editor of The Papers of Dwight David Eisenhower, was recognized as the Eisenhower Legacy Award recipient. Two sailors from the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) aircraft carrier were also recognized. CTT Kenneth L. Ponnie was awarded the President Eisenhower Leadership Award for outstanding work in his local community. ETNC Katherine E. Starkey was awarded the General Eisenhower Leadership Award for performing above and beyond in military duties aboard the ship.

Foundation Welcomes Six New Directors The Eisenhower Foundation Board of Directors approved the addition of new members during the July 2023 board meeting.

“We conducted a thorough, nationwide search for candidates,” said Eisenhower Foundation Executive Director Meredith Sleichter. “This class is comprised of uniquely-quali ed individuals with a variety of skills, perspectives, backgrounds, and resources. In turn, this promotes creativity and innovation and yields differing voices that will play important roles in accomplishing our mission from the highest level of leadership.” Michael L. Dodson, Manhattan, Kansas, is a retired Lieutenant General. He currently serves as Kansas Representative of the 67th District and previously served as a commissioner and mayor of Manhattan, Kansas. Commercially, he was Vice President and manager of Bechtel Defense and Security, President of Bechtel Equipment and a member of the mission committee for NNSA National Laboratories.

Sue Peterson, Manhattan, Kansas, is the former chief government relations of cer and assistant to the president for Kansas State University. Additionally, Sue also served as an instructor in the K-State political science department. She has served as a member of the Association of Public and Land Grant Universities Council on Governmental Affairs, and is a founding member of the Kansas Board of Regents Council on Governmental Relations. Kasey S. Pipes, Fort Worth, Texas, is partner and co-founder of Corley Pipes Consulting, specializing in media relations, issue management and crisis communication. Prior to starting his consulting rm, Kasey served as an advisor to President George W.

Bush and later to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. He is also a recognized historian, having written Ike’s Final Battle: The Road to Little Rock and the Challenge of Equality in 2007.

Nicholas Rostow, New York, New York, is senior partner at Zumpano, Patricios & Popok and a senior research scholar at Yale Law School. He has been a visiting professor at Cornell Law School. In addition to private law practice and academic work, Nicholas has more than two decades of federal and state government service. Jock Scharfen, McLean, Virginia, recently retired as VP of Global Government Relations at Cargill. He is a retired Marine Corps of cer and previously served as acting director of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services under the Department of Homeland Security. Additionally, Jock served as chief counsel of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on International Relations.

Charles R. Ewald, San Francisco, California, is founding CEO of New Island Capital, a San Francisco based investment company. He is also a lecturer in management at Stanford Graduate School of Business. Prior to New Island Capital, Charles was a Managing Director at Terra Firma Capital, Founder of Argus Capital, and Investment Committee Member of JP Morgan Capital Corporation.

Foundation Receives Kansas Commerce Award

Emily Miller, Eisenhower Foundation Director of Development, was presented the regional award by Kansas Lieutenant Governor David Toland.

The Eisenhower Foundation was recognized as the Northeast Regional Winner for Healthcare/Nonpro ts at the Kansas Department of Commerce’s 2023 To The Stars: Kansas Business Awards. This annual awards program recognizes businesses and organizations across the state for the valuable contributions they make to the Kansas economy and to the well-being of their communities. This award was made possible by Eisenhower Foundation supporters. Thanks to your commitment, the Foundation carries out our mission to honor and champion the relevance of the life and legacy of Dwight D. Eisenhower.

D-Day Commemoration Event Set for June In 2024, the world will mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Join us on June 6, 2024, to commemorate this historic occasion at the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum in Abilene, Kansas. We are inviting all World War II veterans to join us in our goal to host the largest gathering of World War II veterans in the United States Activities include a Meet a World War II Veteran Reception, free admission to the Eisenhower Presidential Museum, speakers, remembrance ceremony, military reenactors, hands-on education programs, and more. Meredith’s Memo Recently, our of ce received an email from Kim Lambdin, a teacher who is bringing her students to the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum this spring to participate in our K-12 IKEducation program. This particular group of students will learn about the Holocaust and General Eisenhower’s instrumental role in liberating Ohrdruf concentration camp. I wanted to share it with you because she perfectly articulates why she brings her students. “I am so looking forward to this trip and all it has to offer our eighth graders. This is my 23rd eld trip to your establishment and I learn something each and every time about this incredible military leader and great President. As a mother of three soldiers, one of them chose the Army after visiting the museum. Your facility is an inspiration to many of our youth.” It is because of your donations that we are able to provide engaging and interactive programs that result in making a powerful impact on young people. Your continued support is vital to educating young people about Eisenhower’s leadership and public service.
