ahannes Gutenberg (from Germany) is the first inventor of typography. Gutenberg invented individual pieces of printing and which is considered to revolutionize the printing process. Thanks to Gutenberg’s invention, individuals had a greater opportunity for typography and were also fairly inexpensively. Gutenberg is also credited with the “first type face” which was . This particular typeface was used in the ancient bible. Nicolas Jensen from France in the 15th century invented Roman type. He worked primarily in Venice (Italy) and was inspired by the buildings in Rome. The next invention was the italic letter, which is used to save space and also save money. William Caslon in England invented Caslon in 18th century. This typeface is more commonly knows as “Old style”. John Baskerville invented his self-entitled typeface Baskerville, which is considered a “traditional” typeface. .

Didot and Bodoni invented each name of typefaces and collectively created “Modern style”. In the modern era (20th century) Futura is considered the world favourite typeface. ypeface takes me everywhere. In society, you can see so many letters, which provides a wide array of information such as road signs. These road signs lead you to the destination wherever you want to go. They provide direction(s) on how to get there, also safety issues. Also they are not just letters, each of them has typeface.

The relationship between travel and typefaces

Life with Typography

The typefaces stand for legibility of the road signs. They have to be clean, strong and friendly. It would be a disaster, if you lost your way and were anxious out about finding your way during your trip. Also, your trip would be if you received a speeding ticket or had an accident. In this sense, these typefaces on road signs have a responsibility for all kind of issues you might encounter during your trip. We have to rely on the road signs and we rely on the typefaces on the road signs. Comfortably legible typefaces are always our friend and take us to the destination.

ypeface also ensures clear identity of people. It isn’t only tells us who they are, also transfer the atmosphere of what they do. The typefaces on their uniform or vehicle are sending us the many messages in many ways. You can see and feel their message with legible typefaces with typography. That is the duty of typeface, let people know who are they and how they can help you.

Our life is protected by strong typography. There is public service everywhere in the world, and every country has given different typeface and typography. However, most likely you can recognize the service anywhere you are. For example a police officer in many counties use different typeface and colours. Even though they are different, their uniform or vehicle provides us a safe feeling. In the back of the feeling, we are always looking at clear typeface with reliable typography. oney is involved in many aspects of everyday life. We all are working to earn some money; we buy a thing with money and also travelling with money. Anywhere you are there is money beside you. There is no day you don’t see money. Money, money, money! Have you taken a good look at the money? Money has so many typefaces and considered typography on each note and coins. For example a note is consisted of many elements such as the number of the note, the letter of the number, the name of person on the note, printing number or the name of the bank printed it and more. All these elements are given typography comfortably.

Typography tells you the country itself. When you travel overseas, the first point of the country you see is the money on the country. The money is actually the first gate of the country; it is before immigration and before customs. The type design with the money gives you the first impression of the place. The money you usually use is also giving some impression to people who are visiting the country.

he typeface also provides an opportunity to express ourselves. People use various typefaces in different ways to describe their identity. It spread into multiple style of expression such as T-shirts, caps, stickers, and tattoos. In this case, people can choose any typeface they want, it doesn’t really matter, if it is illegible because it is yourself. Even if you write down what are you or what do you think, you can describe all of it in typography and appeal it.

Typefaces don’t choose you, you choose the typefaces. Typefaces are always there and waiting for you to be chosen. The typeface will be representing not only your character, but also your identity. When you find the right one, you finally find yourself. Life with Typography

unny thing is all people in the whole world developed typography in ancient time. It doesn’t matter what language they use, where it is, what kind of culture they have, people wanted to give typography for letters. Beautiful typeface make people move and do not see them as just letter, rather you see the as art. If you look at Asian counties for example, all typeface came from what it actually looks like.

Chinese calligraphy and Black letter. Chinese calligraphy is one of the art categories. Their script way is to never detach the brush from the paper until they have completes the word. The movement is considered to release the power. The script therefore flows like a river. It quite different from Black letter in Western world. Black letter write each line strongly and store the power at each stop. Text:「侍」SAMURAI

ypefaces are also unique as they can infer noise. For example when you look at comic books, you can see so many typefaces some of which are used as a sound effect, which helps contribute to the overall scene. For instance, punching and vehicle noise help express the character’s emotion. This particular typeface role is a very important part of pictures. Quite often we neglect to realize how important it is, yet is integral to expressing a character’s emotion.

Selection of Typeface change the sound. If the wrong typeface is selected or inserted in the wrong place, it might ruin the story, despite having a great tale and amazing characters. Therefore there are appropriate typefaces which inserted in the right place allows us to hear the noise without the actual sounds.
