INTERNATIONAL MEETING 2021
ASIA PACIFIC MATERNAL & CHILD METABOLIC HEALTH CONFERENCE Last year, Exercise is Medicine Singapore (EIMS) collaborated with Integrated Platform for Research in Advancing Metabolic Health Outcomes of Women and Children (IPRAMHO) and other organisations in the creation and launch of the Perinatal Society of Singapore Guidelines on Physical Activity & Exercise in Pregnancy. This year, EIMS is honoured to be invited to participate in the creation and launch of the Singapore Integrated 24-Hour Activity Guidelines for Children & Adolescents. The guidelines were launched during the Asia Pacific Maternal & Child Metabolic Health Conference and IPRAMHO International
Meeting 2021, which was hosted at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Singapore on 8 and 9 January 2021 and was presented in a hybrid format. Dr Benedict Tan represented EIMS in the launch of the guidelines, and co-chaired the symposium on ‘Physical Activities and Exercise for Children’, where experts in the realm of paediatric exercise science, public health research and shared on various aspects of physical activity and sleep in children and adolescents. Dr Benedict Tan also co-chaired the Asia Pacific Consensus Workshop on Integrated 24-hour Activity Guidelines for Children and Adolescents in the same meeting.
SINGHEALTH DUKE-NUS SPORT & EXERCISE MEDICINE Conference EIMS partnered the SingHealth Duke-NUS Sport & Exercise Medicine Centre to organise the inaugural SingHealth DukeNUS Sport & Exercise Medicine Conference held on 6 March 2021. Given the restrictions in place due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the conference was held in an online format. The theme of the conference was “Physical Activity – The New Vital Sign: Systematic Exercise Intervention in the Chronic Disease Paradigm”. Professor Robert Edward Sallis from Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, USA, the chairman of Exercise is Medicine Advisory Board, presented the keynote lecture on “Exercise is Medicine; Merging Fitness with Healthcare”. The other tracks in the conference focused on (1) Global health initiatives; (2) Physical activity in oncology; (3) Physical activity in womens’ health. A pre-conference workshop on “Exercise Prescription Course for Allied Health and Fitness Professionals” was

also held on 2 and 3 March 2021. The conference was graced by the presence of Professor Ivy Ng, SingHealth Group CEO, as the guest of honour, and attracted more than 400 delegates. The organisers would also like to give a huge appreciation to sponsors who generously contributed to this event. We look forward to greater collaboration opportunities with various medical disciplines, as we advance Sport and Exercise Medicine in patient care!
