Coffee Roasting Machine

This is a home-use coffee roaster made of sheet metal, mechanized operation, allowing users to focus on the purest five senses of experience to roast coffee beans. The complete set consists of a roaster body, a cooling tray and a base. The three products are sold independently, but can also be purchased in combination with each other according to the needs of use.

Origin /

The company was in a stage of transformation and wanted to promote the aesthetics of sheet metal and create unique products with sheet metal. By chance, we came into contact with a customer who was designing a coffee roaster, so we worked together with the customer to develop and research a joint project, with the goal of participating in coffee exhibitions, optimizing existing foundations, and solving problems when roasting coffee beans.

Understand the internal structure of the machine and the driving devices.

For example, motor, heater, blower, and the configuration of each component to understand the underlying design principles and functions.

To test the performance of the machine with baking beans, record the data, ROR curve and observe the temperature of the machine, find out the abnormal data and hypothesize the problem points.

Optimization Market Survey Redesign

Invite the founder of mojocoffee, an expert in the coffee industry, to operate the machine and ask for his feedback.

Participate in the annual coffee show, a major event in the coffee industry, to understand what consumers really think and fill out a questionnaire to collect information on the direction of optimizing the new roaster.

Based on the questionnaires from the exhibition, we collected and consolidated various feedbacks to understand consumer needs and redesign the appearance of the roaster, optimize the structure, and so on.

Concept /

Reffering to the first generation design of coffee roaster, the main structural configuration remains changed, but focuses on presenting the manufacturing and processing characteristics of sheet metal, and wrapping up the internal mechanical components.

The modular concept rethinks the smoothness of maintenance, assembly and disassembly, as well as the smoothness of operation during the roasting process. The appearance of the machine is different from the industrial machines on the market by a simple design, making coffee roasting an enjoyable experience.

The body color is coordinated with silver hardware and toggle switch, which is different from the standardized configuration of general machinery, creating a slightly retro atmosphere.

The outer casing can be customized with lettering and logo engraving, allowing even beginner players to create their own custom design.

A cooling tray that is used in conjunction with the coffee roaster to quickly cool the beans at the end of the roasting process.

Designed with a simple and clean appearance, the Cooling Tray is different from other cooling trays available on the market in that it is small in size, but has a toggle lever to disperse the heat of the beans evenly, and includes a function to collect the silver skin, which can be cleaned by removing the silver skin drawer, making it a small home appliance that is both cosmetic and practical.

The exterior of the coffee roaster, which is specially designed for camping, incorporates the font of the company's name, "Tai Wua", to present the aesthetics of sheet metal in the most intuitive way.

Concept /

Manual coffee roaster is an extension of the coffee show peripheral products, this manual coffee roaster combines the functions of bean roasting and meat roasting, each piece can be disassembled and stored. After removing the trapezoidal sheet metal on the top, it is the design of the burner, and you can put on the grill net to roast the meat easily.

Design Background

We have participated in the Crafts New Interest Program, which aims to study the techniques of crafts, so as to continue the historical value and connotation of crafts, and at the same time to develop the aesthetic value of crafts applied to products.

The design can be divided into two core concepts, namely "metalwork" and "sound". The meaning of "goldsmithing" is to present the metal's processing and production techniques so as to continue its craftsmanship value. The "sound" on the other hand refers to different experimental creations and performances for the application of the craft.

In view of the fact that most of the metal craft creations in the market are mostly applied to artistic creations such as home decorations, jewelry or artworks, it is hoped that through experimental and interesting designs, the metal craft can be used to create a new style of artwork. Therefore, focusing on the characteristics of metal material and the possible direction of application, we propose to bring people experience and sound interaction as the main axis of development.

Concept

Soundphono is a record and record player collection, a conceptual product that explores the idea of transforming process into sound. The inspiration comes from reading the pre-made texture on the surface of the object through the stylus and transforming it into a record player that plays sound. Each person's unique voice is collected by forging and preserving the texture on the record. The different textures that appear on the record will have a different sound in relation to each other. It is a fun toy for adults and a collector's item with appreciation value.

Appearance inspiration /

In order to match the internal mechanism of the product, simple geometric block shapes were used, and ultimately these five shapes were used to determine the direction of the final development.

Features /

1. Through the needle, it reads the grain on the record by vibration and friction, and transmits the sound to the speakers, through which the sound is amplified.

2. the record is made of yellow brass sheet and hand forged to present the unique technique of metal craftsmanship. The reflective color on the brass sheet is a unique coloration that occurs when it is "annealed". When the record is spinning, you can also enjoy the metallic wave of light refraction.

3. Matte metal with textured white calf leather is chosen as the material, white gold as the main color, and metal rivets are used to add sophistication.

Craft Design

Enamel Plate / Enamel powder of different colors is glued onto a copper plate, and then the enamel powder is melted by kiln firing, resulting in a glaze-like color on the surface of the plate.

Lotus Plate / Aluminum sheet is used as the material, and the surface is formed into a fish scale-like pattern through the forging technique, while the rim of the plate is folded and concave with a tool to create the shape of a lotus leaf.

Origin of Creation /

In our daily life, there are a lot of things that can no longer be used, but we can't throw them away. With this in mind, we finally used a box of color pens that had run out of water, but their appearance was still intact. We disassembled the color pens and experimented with a series of creations using the material characteristics of the pens.

Experimental process /

Heat

The barrel is heated and molded with a hot air gun to create different shapes such as bends and twists.

Soak

Soak the barrel in lacquer thinner to dissolve it into a liquid form, which can be categorized into clay and solid depending on the degree of volatility.

Bake

The final step is to put the gel-like solution into the oven and bake it until the lacquer thinner has completely evaporated, then the final product will be made.

After the dissolved plastic is baked at high temperature, irregular bubbles are formed, presenting the material's expressive power in its original form.

Brand Name： NINGNING_CLAY

Based on the handwritten characters of the name, it also incorporates the appearance of clay into it. The origin of the brand name is based on the most representative of my own intention, and the name given at birth is the most intuitive association, through the name combined with the creative material, there are also Ning Ning playing with the clay, Ning Ning selling the clay of the various meanings in the interesting and intuitive link for the brand name.
