BACKGROUND Enough is Enough (EiE) Nigeria (aka The EiE Project) was set up as the next step from two citizens' protests in 2010 on our missing President, killings in Jos & fuel scarcity – March 16th protest to the National Assembly & April 13th protest to the Lagos State Governor. Based on the mobilization done for the protests, it started as a loose network of individuals and organizations committed to changing the dynamics of accountability to citizens by public o cials. The protests were organized primarily via email, SMS, Twitter, Blackberry Messenger and Facebook. It was the beginning of what would be EiE's heavy reliance on technology as a tool of education, engagement and mobilization. EiE began operations in January 2011 with grants from Omidyar Network and MacArthur Foundation. It was formally registered in July 2012. In its 8 years as a formal organisation, EiE has been managed by an average of 6 staff members, yet its impact has been felt in Nigeria and on the African continent. EiE's agship campaign is R|S|V|P – Register | Select | Vote NOT Fight | Protect. It is a play on the popular acronym and the idea is that the four letters represent the activities young people, and indeed all Nigerians, need to complete to positively impact governance in Nigeria. Technology is our tool of choice as it's less expensive; it’s uncensored and it has the potential to positively in uence Nigeria's largest voting demographic – those between 18 and 35 years old.

MILESTONES - ELECTIONS For the 2011, 2015 and 2019 general elections in Nigeria and the few gubernatorial elections in between, EiE recorded the following milestones: Directly and indirectly reached about 25% of Nigeria’s audience on Twitter and Facebook, thereby owning the social media space in Nigeria relative to governance and citizen engagement. Creatively leveraged the power of celebrities to amplify our message, especially getting young people to register to vote and vote on election day – ‘R’ & ‘V’ of the RSVP Campaign. Our celebrity partners include Omotola Jalade - Ekeinde, Nollywood actress and 2014 TIME 100 Awardee and 2Baba (2Face Idibia), pop icon. Contributed to making elections exciting for young people which saw 18-35 year olds being the largest group of registered voters for all 3 election cycles - 2011 (55%); 2015 (52.6%) and 2019 (51.1%). Co-hosted Nigeria’s rst youth-focused presidential debate in 2011. EiE has since hosted or co-hosted 22 other debates to build the culture of debates amongst those running for public o ce. We are the only civil society organization with this track record. This is the ‘S’ component of the RSVP Campaign. Developed ReVoDa, a mobile app that helps citizens be election observers. It’s a simple app that connects your polling unit number to your phone number so every report sent is automatically geo-mapped. It was the rst election reporting app of its kind in the world. We know it was adapted in Ghana and helped in the design of variations in other countries. For the 2011 elections, we worked with the Yar’Adua Foundation and partners from Harvard’s Berkman Center, MIT’s Center for Civic Media and Georgia Tech’s Technology & International Development Lab to set up and run a Social Media Tracking Center. Using Aggie, we pulled election related content from multiple data streams — Twitter, Facebook, Google+, blogs and websites to generate visualizations and other analytics. This was also the rst time anything like this had been used for elections anywhere in the world. It has subsequently been used in Liberia, Ghana & Kenya. In 2015, we used our relationships with some of Nigeria’s leading music artistes to host 6 concerts around the country that was free for attendees who had their voters’ cards. The objective was to attach a value to the voter’s card to encourage people, especially urban youth, to register to vote. During the concert, we educated on the election process and the importance of participating and engaging. The concerts were funded by the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) and they have been replicated in Tanzania and Zambia.

MILESTONES - OTHER PROGRAMS In 2012, we co-hosted the “New Media & Governance Conference to showcase how technology was improving governance and explored areas of collaboration. It was the rst conference of its kind on the continent with representatives from government, the private and public sectors. Bill Gates sent a recorded message. In 2016, the conference was modi ed to include 'citizens' as the bridge between media & governance outcomes. BudgIT and Paradigm Initiative (PI) became partners. It is now a biannual conference. The 2016 theme was "Rights & Responsibilities" and the 2018 theme was "Government, New Media & Civic Spaces". For EiE, a major output of the 2012 conference was our collaboration with mysociety, a UK-based organization that builds technology platforms to improve citizen engagement. They built our Shine Your Eye (SYE) platform (www.shineyoureye.org) which is one of the tools we use to enable citizens hold their elected o cials accountable. We've led the governance space at #SMWLagos hosting an average of 2 activities since its inception in 2014. We facilitate conversations on how social media can in uence better governance outcomes. Speakers have included: Mahmood Yakubu, INEC Chairman; Nasir El Rufai, Executive Governor, Kaduna & Omobola Johnson, Former Minister of Communication Technology. We are currently championing the #OpenNASS campaign with BudgIT. The objective is a transparent and accountable National Assembly that can effectively perform their oversight functions. Our tactics include protests, social media, radio and print media engagement. As part of the activities to mark our 5th anniversary (since the protests), we launched the "O ce of the Citizen" campaign in 2015 to educate Nigerians on their rights and responsibilities. The underlying principle is that the "O ce of the Citizen" is the highest o ce in the land. Though small, EiE has had signi cant impact, easily serving as one of Nigeria's leading voices on good governance and public accountability.
