Research Project Grants - 2024 EI Cure Project Grant Application - Instructions Thank you for making a grant application to the EI Cure Project. Grants from the EI Cure Project are designed to provide funding for outstanding preclinical and translational research projects that aim to deliver clinical benefit within 5-15 years. We give grants for PhD Scholarships or Post-Doctoral Research Projects supported by established research Institutions. Awards are for a maximum of £100,000 for a PhD Scholarship over 3 years or £90,000 for Post-Doctoral projects over 2 years or the equivalent pro-rata amount for grants for shorter time-periods. The minimum grant duration is 1 year up to a maximum of 3 years and the maximum amount that can be requested for any one year is £33,300 for a PhD Scholarship or £45,000 for Post-Doctoral Projects. Applicant Details Please provide contact details for the principal applicant and (if applicable) co-applicant(s). The principal applicant must assume the role of lead applicant and it is their responsibility to provide the required information for co-applicants. Please submit the following supporting documents by email to helenlill.eicureproject@gmail.com: ● CV from principal applicant (max 3 pages); ● Copy of international form of ID (Passport preferred) If co-applicants are involved in the grant application, the following documents will also be required: ● CVs from all co-applicants (max 3 pages each); ● Copy of international form of ID (Passport preferred) for all co-applicants. Project Details Please answer all questions on this online application form as accurately as possible and ensure all additional documents requested are submitted via email to helenlill.eicureproject@gmail.com. Where requested, please ensure your answers are written in simple lay language that non-medical people will have no difficulty in understanding.

Please also email a detailed technical report for the purpose of external peer review. This report must meet the following format: maximum of 8 pages, font size 11, line-spacing no less than 1.15, and including any figures and appendices; references can go onto additional pages. You should briefly summarise the background and aims of the project but the majority of the report should provide a detailed methodology of the proposed research and preliminary data that supports it. The report should contain: ● Brief summary of background, aims, and objectives; ● Supporting data & figures; ● Detailed experimental methodology of the proposed research; ● Statistical methodology where applicable; ● Risk mitigation and contingency planning; ● Timeline (Gantt chart or similar); ● Budget table outlining costs; ● 6-monthly milestones and deliverables for the duration of the grant. If you fail to submit the requested documents, or your documents do not meet the format requested, your application will be rejected. Ethical considerations We understand that ethical approval requires time, however we will only give a grant for a proposal that includes a certificate of ethical approval from your research institution. You can submit an application to the EI Cure Project without an ethics approval certificate, however, the grant for an approved application will not be transferred until evidence of ethical approval has been reviewed by the head of research. Please provide details of salaries, consumables, animal costs, and other associated costs that you are applying to the EI Cure Project for. It is essential that costings are as clear as possible. For example, it is not sufficient to list consumables without the details. Without this information, your application will be rejected. Applicants ● Please provide a clear and concise justification for all the requested costs. ● If the total directly incurred costs exceed the amount requested from the EI Cure Project, then please provide information on how you will secure the additional funding required to complete the project. Please do not include full economic costs in the total cost of the project. Reviewers ● Please provide contact details of 2 nominated reviewers whom we may contact for an external review. These details can be provided via the online application. ● Reviewers must be specialists in the field who are not affiliated to this project, do not work at your institution, nor are they a current collaborator or co-author on a paper or grant published / awarded within the last 2 years. ● We strongly recommend that the nominated reviewers are contacted beforehand to confirm that they are able to provide a review. Review Process ● All applications will be initially checked to confirm that eligibility criteria have been met (All requested information has been submitted). ● Applications will then be triaged by a small group of members of the board and/or global ambassadors. Triage reviewers will score the application form focusing on the following criteria: ○ Relevance of research question being asked for those affected with EI ○ Feasibility - can the aims and objectives be met within the time-frame and with the funding requested ○ Track record of the Lead Applicant with EI (or related disease) research ○ Potential for future progress (Procurement of further funding and publication) Page 3 of 4
○ Potential for long-term translation into a treatment for EI ● The applications approved by the triage group will then be sent to an external peer reviewer who will assess the overall quality of the application. They will receive the online application form, CVs and technical report. ● The best applications will be shortlisted and presented to the board of directors by the head of research for approval. ● We aim to complete this process within 3 months of receiving the application. Application checklist Please be sure that you have completed every item on the following list in order for your application to the EI Cure Project to be meet application review requirements: 1) Complete online application form (Link); 2) CV from principal applicant (max 3 pages) and all co-applicants (max 3 pages each); 3) Copy of International form of ID (Passport) from Principal applicant and all co-applicants; 4) A detailed scientific/academic report (max 8 pages); 5) A copy of the ethics approval certificate for the proposed research or a copy of the ethics application form for the proposed research to demonstrate that ethical approval has been sought.
