6 >>> WELLNESS “Keeping America beautiful, one patient at a time.” THE SURGEON DR. BARRY WEINTRAUB drbarryweintraub.com @drbarryweintraub WWW Udo Spreitzenbarth

While most industries strive for increased speed and instant delivery, Dr. Barry Weintraub, a board-certified plastic surgeon practicing at the heart of New York on Fifth Avenue and 61st Street, vehemently protects the importance of not rushing through any aspect of the surgical process. “Surgery is not a horse race,” he states, “and taking time is essential to patient safety, as well as ensuring an outstanding, understated and natural-looking result.”

This focus is evident in Dr. Weintraub’s consultations, which can last up to a full hour and only conclude when all questions have been answered. While he has always believed in the sanctity of the unrushed doctor-patient relationship, his private-practice experience has only strengthened this belief.

“When patients come to me with subpar results from other offices seeking revision surgery, I often ask their opinion of what went wrong with their prior procedure. It’s notable that most state that they felt hurried from the start — as if they were in a factory. In my practice, I take time to answer all questions and I am also available via mobile phone for any residual concerns.” In the operating room, Dr. Weintraub performs a maximum of two surgeries per day because, as he states, “Nobody can achieve the sophisticated aesthetic — the goal of artful surgery — when hurrying against the clock. Rushing is when problems happen, and miscommunications occur. Postoperatively, I regularly see my patients rather than solely relegating them to my nursing staff. When you think that the goal of plastic surgery is to attain a permanent improvement, why not be supremely mindful regarding the entire process?”

Dr. Weintraub’s renowned and exceptional care is having a profound impact on the medical world and patients worldwide who seek the highest ideals of medicine. Dr. Weintraub has recently been named one of “America’s Best Plastic Surgeons in 2023” for facelift surgery by Newsweek. Top professionals in the field have recognized Dr. Weintraub, voting for him in this prestigious publication, which recently released its annual list of the Best Plastic Surgeons for 2023. Dr. Weintraub’s unrushed approach and dedication to his patients contribute to his renown.

“I am truly honored to be recognized by Newsweek as one of the best plastic surgeons for 2023,” said Dr. Weintraub.

“I am dedicated to providing my patients the highest quality of medical and plasticsurgical care, as well as delivering the most sophisticated, age-appropriate results, always with a keen eye toward natural attractiveness.”

A regular recipient of the titles “Best Plastic Surgeons in America” and “Best Doctors in New York” by Castle Connolly, Dr. Weintraub holds in high regard the ideals he was taught at Cornell, both in medical school as well as his plasticsurgical fellowship, during a time when patient care and compassion were almost religiously revered.

‘One of America’s Best Plastic Surgeons 2023’ by Newsweek board-certified plastic surgeon with over 30 years of experience Dr. Barry Weintraub brings outstanding service to patients

Dr. Weintraub shares this philosophy with his entire staff, who provide an atmosphere of respect, compassion, and gentleness. Every patient admitted to his surgical facility experiences not just a personalized interaction, but also a personalized plan for their overall aesthetic — whether it be a surgical plan encompassing facelift, neck lift, blepharoplasty (eyelid lift), rhinoplasty, and/or revisionary surgery, or a noninvasive plan involving skincare and injectable, lasers, micro needling, or any number of noninvasive approaches. “There are many different modalities to correct skin laxity, jowl formation, deep nasolabial folds, turkey-gobble necks, eye bags, plunging nasal tips, and bumps on noses. It’s always my pleasure to help educate patients as to what meets their needs and fits their lifestyles.”

Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Barry Weintraub has over 30 years of experience and has earned a reputation for his exceptionally natural-looking results. “You should never be able to tell that someone had surgery. Less is always more! I have made it my mission to give patients the most understated and natural results while avoiding the telltale signs of surgery.” For his facelifts, he hides all incisions behind the tragus in the ear so that the hairline incision is not visible. For his rhinoplasty patients, he either employs the “closed” technique – or for the “open” approach, he sews with suture material finer than a human hair (as he does with his uppereyelid surgeries). Painstakingly, he sews all incisions under magnification for the thinnest incisions possible.

Never one to broadcast his skills or brag about his celebrity patients, his humbleness makes for a most comforting bedside manner. Dr. Weintraub believes that physicians should be welcoming and respectful and must never lose sight that it’s a sacred privilege to operate on another human being. Each patient is a person possessing real-life issues and concerns.

“In medicine, we don’t call it a ‘business,’ we call it a ‘practice’ for a reason: we should always continue to evolve our techniques in the quest to expand the field. If ever we wake up and feel that we have mastered everything, that’s the day we should hang up our surgical instruments, so to speak.”

There is no ego with this doctor who carries a mission statement of knowing that while he might cut skin, he will not cut corners when it comes to providing the absolute best for his patients.

As Dr. Weintraub earnestly believes, “The patient is always number one.” He even keeps in his wallet a piece of paper that is his motto in the operating room: “Always pursue what is right, and never accept second best.” The difference that this doctor makes is both extraordinary and commendable.

The Fall 2023 runways served up many trends. But by far the most prolific was the color red. Just to be crystal clear, we’re talking bright, basically cherry red. Although now that we’re in winter and far enough removed from both Tomato Girl Summer and Strawberry Girl Summer, it’s time to focus on new shades. Like red wine colors from merlot to burgundy.

This Sexual Violence Awareness month 2023, the Cura Collective and its Coalition partners held a press conference at Foley Square, New York City to highlight that under the current law in New York, rape of a person who became intoxicated willingly is not considered rape.

Unfortunately, New York statute requires that mental incapacitation results from a person being under the influence without their agreement. This creates what is today called the Voluntary Intoxication Loophole i.e. if the victim has themselves voluntarily become intoxicated, the rape statute does not apply. This prevents many victims from having their case investigated much less tried and thereby achieving some semblance of justice.

Together, this loophole can be closed by passing new legislation. In New York, there are two bills to close this loophole, one in the State Assembly and one in the State Senate. To pass, this bill must leave committee in both chambers, and then be voted on the floor of both the Assembly and the Senate. Only upon ratification by both chambers can the bill then move to Governor Hochul’s for New York to finally catch up with other states like Arkansas and North Carolina who have already closed this loophole.

Those present included: Lizzie Asher (President & Co-founder, Cura Collective), Casey Kohlberg, Laura Day Webb, Rachelle Di Stasio (Miss NY USA), Assemblyman Dinowitz, Assemblyman Hesevi, Former

U.S. Congresswoman Maloney, Stefan Turkheimer (VP of public policy, RAINN), Chris Lake (Exec Director, Community for a Cause), Erica Vladimer, (Founder, Sexual Harrassement Working Group). New York statute requires that a victim of sexual violence not have become intoxicated out of their own volition otherwise the offender gets a pass.

30 >>> PHILANTHROPY How to make a life by what you give. THE PHILANTHROPIST JEAN SHAFIROFF jeanshafiroff.com @jeanshafiroff WWW Michael Paniccia

The exciting life of Jean Shafiroff captivates from the moment one is introduced to her. The well-known adage that one can be kind and beautiful both inside and out is simply the best way to describe the ethos of Shafiroff. Hard working and dedicated to a myriad of causes, this philanthropist works with a dedication rarely seen. Often referred to as the First Lady of Philanthropy by the international press, Shafiroff is most humble when asked about this. She responds,

“I only want to do the best job I can for the different causes that I am involved with. I plan to continue my philanthropic work for the rest of my life.”

As a philanthropic leader, TV host, and the author of the book Successful Philanthropy: How to Make a Life By What You Give, Jean Shafiroff is defined by the power of giving back. This visionary focuses on leading the world to a future where far less suffering exists. The deeper meaning of her existence is to do things with positive intent. From Shafiroff’s perspective, making the world more equitable through philanthropic work is to create an everlasting positive impact.

Wielding influence and encouraging others to dedicate their lives to creating change through volunteering are vitally important to Shafiroff. Her dedicated philanthropic work over the years proves that hard work, leadership, intelligence, and teamwork combine to produce lasting powerful results.

Jean Shafiroff, who comes from a middleclass family, was instilled from an early age with the importance of giving back. Her music-teacher father and stay-athome mother had the family doing volunteer work at the schools and church they attended. Parents and teachers were excellent role models who ingrained in her life-changing values.

After graduating from Columbia University with a BS and an MBA in Finance, Shafiroff pursued a career on Wall Street.

Her philanthropic work started at a young age selling Girl Scout cookies and doing volunteer work with her classmates and family. After she was married and had children, she volunteered at her daughters’ schools. From there she joined a few charity boards and over time it grew to serving on eight boards and chairing between eight and ten large fundraising galas each year as well as hosting and underwriting numerous smaller events in her homes and elsewhere for many different charitable organizations.

Jean spends countless hours working to promote causes and, at the same time, works to motivate others to get involved. She is also very generous to many different causes. Her days are often spent in front of the computer and on calls to promote organizations and boost representation for them. She is a national leader in philanthropy. Her main areas of focus are women’s rights, rights of underserved populations, health care, and animal rights. She is also interested in furthering LGBTQ equality, cancer awareness campaigns, and several other causes. Shafiroff is involved in motivating the next generation and aims to instill in them hope as they follow her on their own pathway to successful philanthropy.

The art of giving back is witnessed in Jean’s impressive and inspirational ways of being a true patron of good deeds. Her charitable work includes serving on the boards of American Humane, Southampton Hospital Association, NY Women’s Foundation, Mission Society of NYC, Casita Maria, Couture Council (Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology), French Heritage Society, Global Strays, and Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation honorary board. A Catholic, Shafiroff served on the board of The Jewish Board for over 28 years and is now an honorary trustee.

All of Jean’s work is understandably important and why, in September 2022 she was officially proclaimed the “First Lady of Philanthropy of New York” by New York State Assembly Member Rebecca Seawright, who represents New York’s 76th District, in Manhattan. Then in November 2022, the 117th US Congress, recognized Shafiroff for her works in philanthropy. This recognition was given by US Representative Carolyn Maloney, who represented the 14th Congressional District, in New York.

Shafiroff has been honored dozens of

times by charities, including American Humane, Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, New York City Mission Society, French Heritage Society, Southampton Animal Shelter, Surgeons of Hope, Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation, Operation Warrior Shield, Viennese Opera Ball, Al Sharpton’s National Action Network, Ellen Hermanson Foundation, Pet Philanthropy Circle, Animal Zone International, Health Advocates for Older People, Southampton African American Museum, Youth Counseling League, the NYC International Film Festival Foundation, The Jewish Board, and Hadassah. In December 2020, Dan’s Papers named her “Philanthropist of the Year” at its Power Women of the East End award ceremony.

As an authority on the art of giving, she has written about and spoken on several TV shows and podcasts about the rewards of volunteering and philanthropy. Her TV show, Successful Philanthropy, which airs six times each week in the Hamptons and can be viewed on YouTube, gives celebrities, politicians, executive directors of charities, and fellow philanthropists an opportunity to speak about their lives and philanthropic work. Shafiroff has a large social media platform and uses it to promote positivity, philanthropy, and her love of fashion. Her Instagram account @JeanShafiroff has a very substantial following.

“The main message of my book, Successful Philanthropy: How to Make a Life By What You Give, is that anyone can become a philanthropist. If you do not have large amounts of money to donate to a cause, you can become a philanthropist by giving your time and knowledge. However, I do believe that those that have financial resources have an obligation to give. Another important message that was conveyed in my book is that giving is truly rewarding. When we give to help others, we achieve great personal satisfaction. Giving is most often far more satisfying than receiving. The purpose of writing my book was to motivate others and then to serve as a guide for philanthropic work,” Jean Shafiroff says in Glamour South Africa.

Philanthropy the way Shafiroff encourages it can help make the world a more equitable place. The power of giving creates gratification for both the giver and the receiver. Through volunteering, contributing financially, and giving of one’s knowledge to help others, life can become far more rewarding.

MvVO ART continues to provide unwavering support to featured artists, offering a dedicated Artsy gallery page for art purchase.

Top Honors went to Parme Marin for sculptural and mixed media works that exemplified a depth of emotion coupled with explorations of spatial dynamics, using leather, blown glass, wood, paper and other media. They clearly demonstrate the depth of artistic talent among the dual career artists we celebrate each year during AD ART SHOW and the value of time spent working in commercial art. The Clio for Parme is so well-deserved! I am also thrilled that AD ART SHOW is partnering with OUTFRONT Media to showcase our winning artists. Art on billboards across the country expresses the significance of creativity in contemporary life and how important it is to provide opportunities for artists to thrive.” said Maria van Vlodrop Founder & CEO, MvVO ART/AD ART SHOW

ABOUT CHLOE FLOWER

An alumna of Manhattan School of Music’s prestigious Precollege program, Chloe Flower (PC ’00) – an accomplished pianist, composer, and producer – is bridging the gap between classical and pop. Her self-created sound, POPSICAL, embodies sweet melodies, epic strings, and hip-hop beats blended with impressive aplomb and showcased in her 2021 eponymous debut album, Chloe Flower. Born in Pennsylvania, Chloe first reached for piano keys at the age of two. By 12, she was studying at Manhattan School of Music followed by London’s Royal Academy of Music.

Building on the triumph of her groundbreaking production, “THE WHITE BLACKS,” the celebrated playwright and director, Melanie Maria Goodreaux, enthralled audiences once more with a fresh rendition of “ENOUGH VO5 FOR THE UNIVERSE,” which featured a special appearance by veteran TV star Malik Yoba and The Walking Dead ’s Aixa Kendrick. “I love the bravery of the actors and other creatives I’m working with,” playwright and director Goodreaux says. “I use absurdity to poke fun at the challenges Black women face. It makes some people split their sides laughing, some shed tears, while others get ‘uncomfortable.’ That’s part of where it’s at for me. I think a teeny bit of discomfort that you have to laugh about, gets us somewhere new.”

“ENOUGH VO5 FOR THE UNIVERSE” unfurls within an Afro-futuristic apocalyptic setting in the United States of 2097. The story immerses us in the lives of three extraordinary Black women, members of the enigmatic “Solution” monastic order. Guided by W.E. Dubois’ ideals of the Talented Tenth, their mission drives them to a momentous decision: a radical transformation of the world. What follows is a narrative that seamlessly interweaves comedy, drama, and unforeseen twists, transcending the stage and inviting the audience into an entire universe.

Melanie Maria Goodreaux’s talent for crafting narratives that resonate deeply with audiences has firmly established

her as a luminary in the downtown NYC theater scene. Her works have graced renowned venues, including Chelsea Playhouse, the House of Tribes Theater, the Abingdon Theater, Studio Players Theater, the Linhart Theater, the Lillian Theater in Los Angeles, the Nuyorican Poets Café, HOWL Fest, the New York Theater Festival, the Hudson Guild Theater, and Theater for the New City and The Foundry. Goodreaux recently earned acclaim with the American Woman Project Solo-Play Development and Production award (2020-2021).

“Melanie’s voice is so bold, and her vision so visceral and cinematic. Melanie gives actors piercing, poetic, and daring text and characters to bite into,” said Aixa.

THE GAME-CHANGER CAGRI KANVER

@cagrikanverofficial

Real estate mover and shaker, Cagri Kanver is a partner in several companies that are teaming up to codevelop beautiful, upscale buildings in the USA. He is a game-changer in the real estate industry, because when he starts a project, he emphasizes the fact that he begins from scratch directly to the execution and completion of the entire life cycle of the real estate. The architect of Turkish descent has been consulting, co-developing and operating buildings in the last several years in the New York area.

“From beginning to completion, including the subsequent operating and management of the asset, I am an integral part of every stage of the real estate project. It is a life cycle that comprises the inclusion of the General Partners who are clients and investors. I studied architecture, worked for the best architects and traveled the world overseeing magnificent projects on a global scale at an early stage in my career. New York is different. Everyone wants to be in New York City. In 2015, all the real

INFLUENCERMAGAZINE.NEWS <<< 49

estate people that I ended up meeting in Turkey were asking me how to make it in the USA, in real estate and especially in New York City. Back then I can assure you my mind was not entirely in this real estate position. It was a secondary market for me since I was based in Chicago. Now it is for sure the primary market for business pursuits.”

Since the pandemic, Kanver focuses between Miami and New York City, which has brought him into an emerging class of top developers that play with the lead real estate developers in both cities. “My foreign clients asked me about the New York market, and in 2015 it was booming. The problem with foreign investors is that they want to be a developer in the United States, and that is almost an impossibility. Especially in New York, and I’m telling you, there is no way that an outsider can be a local developer in the city, unless they have proven record with a local partnership.

Investors come from Brazil, Japan, China, Turkey, Colombia, but they rarely succeed alone. Because the real estate in New York is local. You need experienced local real estate partners to handle it,” assured the charismatic and young

Kanver, also partner of Watermark investments company which has real estate investments nationwide.

“Ingrained in the world of New York real estate development are the completion guarantee requirements that only the developer can handle. Imagine that the bank loans 65% of the capital requirements of the project as your senior loan and 10-15% mezzanine loan for the entire project. For those terms, you need to have a proven record. With a local developer the real estate project covers approximately 75-80% loan to start with. If the developer can secure the remaining 20% with equity. That’s why the banking relationship is crucial to the project because the bank is expecting the money back - Last In, First Out. Many of the people involved in construction don’t love the relationship they need to nurture with bankers, because of the field they are in and the liabilities they take, that’s why the contractors like to be hired by the developer not to deal with the bank. In addition, that is why developers need equity, so the investors and foreign investors need a good local developer to handle the completion and construction guarantees. If the foreign investor brings 20% of the equity, that

will be the smartest way for the foreign investor to be part of a successful project. I always prefer the local developer to be part of the equity stack as well. That proven record is what I bring to the table for my investors and the local developers.”

“One thing for certain is that the local developer want your investment.” Basically, Kanver has bridged the gap between the local developer and the foreign investor. “My investors come from all over the world, I am leading the team, not as high as that their own investment, but I also put money from my pocket, and I am totally invested in the project. Usually, the local developer does not want the services such as architectural and engineering from foreign countries. What they want is their investment and what I also offer the quality and reasonable priced building materials.”

“I tell you all this story because life is about connections and relationships. I am not lecturing on Real Estate 101, my connections and relationships bring the knowledge with the investment to ensure a robust, successful and profitable real estate project. When you look at

50 >>> INFLUENCERMAGAZINE.NEWS
Kelcey Schmitt

reality, and you end up meeting all the local players in real estate market, and your instinct tells you are on to the next great project, preparation meets opportunity. In my work which requires upscale preparation, knowing all the big developers in these two cities, it is all about your experience, knowledge and proven record. It can also be the location, the chemistry between the partners or otherwise you are doomed.”

“Before I got there, I am honored to work with the owner of the Avdoo Group, Shlomi Avdoo who is a local developer from New York City. He possesses three essential qualities : he is always there for the project, he is very experienced at monitoring project cost, and he provides a good return to his investors. We don’t try to work extensively or at all in Manhattan because of the construction cost, the uncertainty with the construction process, from bringing in the construction equipment to the shifts in the market. It’s too restrictive. Brooklyn for us is currently booming. Here there is more land to be revitalized and opportunity zones. Tax abatements, and much more, prices are slightly lower than Manhattan. It’s not New Jersey, and it’s not Manhattan, it’s in between.

Queens is booming too, look like Long Island City did 20 years ago, although I personally do not like all those high rises, it loses some of that essential family feeling and neighborhood life.”

“I believe in a balanced approach, and value the aesthetic. Here in the building where we are discussing the market, St. Marks Place you are 5 minutes from the main subway station. Only a few minutes away from Manhattan. It is also a responsibility; I have the opportunity to be a part of the overall project.

If something goes wrong, I am liable for my investors: this is my wall, my door, those are our materials. When you call me, I am there for you. Even through the pandemic, all went spectacularly well, we didn’t have a glitch.

To the question of what is the difference between Miami and NYC? He explains it like this: “New York is a global city, everyone wants to be here. Miami is coming in and out- very transitional. In the last five years it has been growing, and many businessmen left New York to Miami. But when individuals leave, it opens the opportunity for the youth market to come and they are the creative

class. The big headquarters like Google, Facebook, Instagram and other tech companies move to Manhattan because they need that pool of talent. Now they are all over Hudson Yards and Meat Packing District.

In conclusion, Kanver believes real estate never dies. Another entrepreneurial passion is for the hospitality and food industry: “I want to challenge myself. I want to see and feel how we were able to create a successful restaurant from scratch as well, with a good partner who knows the industry. El Turco became a sensation in East Hampton and Miami because of its high quality and unique Mediterranean taste with a well known Michelin rated Chef.

I want to make it also into an art enterprise and Millwork for a beautiful design in the Hampton’s market. For example, we will be installing a sculpture created by a Turkish architect, Gokhan Avcioglu in the summer of 2023, at El Turco, East Hampton. We are also performing Millwork for high-end residences in the Hampton’s as part of my architectural skill set with Highgate Millwork company.

THE PATRIOT TOM RUCK

wikialpha.org/wiki/Tom_Ruck

Visionary Tom Ruck made history as the only person to have both marched and actively participated in all major landmark parades including the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2023, creating a special moment in patriotic history. After applying, Ruck was selected as an official balloon wrangler for the new character appearance of “Leo” based on the Adam Sandler Netflix comedy.

As a proud American citizen, it was his belief in the importance of the traditions of America that spurred his involvement which over time led to his appearing in some of the biggest parades rooted in the tradition and heritage in the country.

“I believe in America and American traditions,” Tom states. “There’s nothing more traditional and more American

than the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade as well as the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year’s Day.”

Few people can boast about playing a big part in recognizable parades such as the Thanksgiving celebration along with the Tournament of Roses Parade, which is the annual parade held along Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena, California.

THE FILM FIGHT FOR UKRAINE:

12 WOMEN’S WAR

Award-Winning Documentary Offers

Twelve Women’s Unique Perspective of War in Ukraine

FIGHT FOR UKRAINE: 12 WOMEN’S WAR

is an 81-minute documentary resulting from a dozen in-person interviews ELYSIAN Publisher Karen Floyd conducted in Ukraine in 2023, features images and testimonials that have forever changed those who have seen it.

As Ukraine fights back, Floyd shines the brightest light possible on the grit, determination, vulnerability and the strength of the women of Ukraine.

12 Women’s War has been awarded Outstanding Excellence at the Documentaries Without Borders International Film Festival, Best Human Rights entry at the Toronto International Women Film Festival, Finalist at the International Women Filmmakers Festival, Semi-Finalist at the Bridge of Peace International Film Festival, and Honorable Mention at the Heart of Europe International Season Film Festival. It was an official selection in the Valkyrie International Film Festival, International New York Film Festival and the ETHOS Film Awards. The documentary premiered at an opening night screening and received a Special Jury Award for Directing at Los Angeles’ 14th annual Awareness Film Festival, which spotlights “films that make a difference.”

ELYSIAN, an international luxury lifestyle brand created to inspire and reflect the interests of women, produced Fight for Ukraine: 12 Women’s War because women are as inspiring in a war zone as they are in a boardroom. The film tells the stories of 12 Ukrainian women from all walks of life who maintain their humanity in the face of the horror and tragedy of war.

Through Floyd’s lens, we realize the rest of the world cannot just think about the war in Ukraine when convenient — she illustrates this is an urgent crisis we must work to end now.

“ELYSIAN’s mantra is ‘Women Inspiring Woman,’ and we do that through our stories,” said Floyd, who served as the film’s director and executive producer. “The stories of these twelve women are nothing short of incredible. From safe houses near the front lines to the country’s Supreme Court, these women form the backbone of Ukraine, never breaking, always persevering . . . and they will carry the trauma from this for the rest of their lives.”

Fight for Ukraine: 12 Women’s War is the latest in a growing number of short- and long-form films produced as part of the ELYSIAN ecosystem. As philanthropy is foundational to ELYSIAN, each film ends

with a call to action. This film will help raise money for the WLS Foundation, a charity that benefits veterans across the world with post-traumatic stress disorder and other psychological scars from war. “The consequences of the battlefield — any battlefield — stay with us, and they don’t just affect the veteran . . . They affect that veteran’s family and loved ones,” said Dr. Sheri Biggs, a co-producer of the film who provides mental health services to veterans. Biggs works closely with the WLS Foundation, “which exists to meet the mental health needs of veterans of all ages, with special emphasis on suicide prevention.”

ABOUT ELYSIAN:
