FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL Dear EHS Family, Each August we return to campus, some 1,100 students, faculty, and staff, intent on being the strongest community that we can be, knowing that schools like ours are not simply wished into being. They are the product of many hands doing much work, united by a common purpose, our Mission. We do it when it is easy, and we do it when it is hard. Take Daily Chapel as representative of this hard work and the success it breeds regardless of circumstance. Since January of 2026, Daily Chapel has taken place in the Alkek Gymnasium. As we start the new year, fully one quarter of our student body has no memory or knowledge of how Chapel used to be. And yet our Daily Chapel program continues as strong or stronger than ever, the centerpiece of our daily lives together. Dean of Religion Art Callaham reminds us in his article within that “sacred space is not something we merely inherit [but rather] something we actively create together.” And we do it very well. Our Founders pointed the way with their vision for EHS, a school unlike any other in the city. The campus may look different today than it was at our founding or even ten to fifteen years ago. The details of our lives together may have changed as with this year’s bell-to-bell ban on cell phones. Each of these changes was carefully designed with the School’s Mission in mind and to ensure that we continue to live that Mission to its fullest to meet the current moment. You will meet within the new members of the Board of Trustees, entrusted as were all trustees who have gone before, with ensuring that EHS remains true to that Mission and its history. Our new Board class is a talented one indeed. The trustees are perfectly suited to this work as is our new Executive Chair, Shelley Barineau, a four-time EHS parent who has served on the board for over a decade. As another school year begins anew, students, teachers, staff, and parents fill the halls with laughter and excited conversation, and we are reminded that Episcopal High School is a very special place indeed. We work hard to make it so; each of you sacrifices to make it so. Each of you plays a part, and, for the part you play, thank you. Go Knights,

Ned Smith Head of School

FROM THE EXECUTIVE CHAIR The Episcopal High School community is healthy, happy, and flourishing! We have much to celebrate. THE FOUNDERS’ VISION While we often reflect on the EHS Founders in these pages, for the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, I have been reading about the views on education of our nation’s founders. The ever-quotable Benjamin Franklin reminds us: “An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest.” Franklin gave generously to construct churches and libraries. He is a reminder that knowledge, virtue, and happiness are connected and that we must build the institutions that develop our community and our children. STAND FOR EHS CAMPAIGN During the 2021-22 school year, the Board approved a new capital campaign to complete the Campus Master Plan and meet our needs across all Four Pillars. Thank you to everyone who has supported this campaign. I am especially grateful to Chief Development Officer Margaret Young and Campaign Co-Chairs Mindy Hildebrand, Jenna Junell, Courtney (Lanier) Sarofim ’88, and Randa Duncan Williams for their dedication! CRAIN-GALLOWAY CENTER FOR THE ARTS Thanks to the gifts and pledges of many families and foundations, especially Lacy Crain and Joe Galloway, the new Arts Center is fully pledged, complete, and in service for the benefit of EHS students! The 61,000 square foot center provides new classrooms, studios, and a versatile performance venue – Sarofim Hall – that enables EHS to increase the number of performances each year. This means more students can have an opportunity to participate in the arts and grow their talents. We are grateful to Gamma Construction for building this center with care, on time, and under budget. In February 2026, Bishop Andy Doyle blessed and formally opened the Center. It is already a popular hub of activity on campus!

NEW BENITEZ CHAPEL EHS’s Founders wrote that the “most important” elements of the EHS dream are to form a “Christian Community where every member, each student, each faculty and staff member, [is] treated as a beloved child of God” and to “profess our Christian religion, the Holy Scriptures, and the moral values that issue from our faith… in its most winsome form.” For two generations, the School has put first things first (Matthew 6:33). The new Benitez Chapel plays a key part in meeting this commitment for the next generation of students. In December, our community came together for the final Advent Chapel in the Benitez Chapel that has long been the spiritual center of campus. In January 2026, construction began on the new, larger Benitez Chapel. Thanks to the generosity of our community, EHS was able to begin construction with 55% of the project’s funding secured through gifts and pledges. However, significant fundraising remains. Our goal is to raise the remaining funds before the new Chapel opens its doors, and your support is essential to making that possible. We hope you will consider making a meaningful gift to help complete this sacred new home for worship, reflection, and community. Rebuilding the Benitez Chapel will provide improved seating, acoustics, and sightlines so that our community can be together in daily worship. It will open in January 2028. FINANCIAL STEWARDSHIP As I complete my term as Executive Chair, I want to thank the School’s long-time Associate Head for Finance and Operations, Evelyn Cambria, and the Board’s Finance Committee, led by Carl Giesler, for leading with a disciplined approach, which has controlled tuition growth and ensured that all spending is Missioncentered. TECHNOLOGY AS A TOOL, NOT A DISTRACTION OR SUBSTITUTE FOR GENUINE LEARNING Education is not simply about skills, careers, and efficiency. As Franklin reminds us, education requires us to consider virtue and knowledge. Through our Mission, students can cultivate good habits and grow in appreciation of truth and beauty found in scripture, math and science, and history and literature so that they can develop their minds for reason, wisdom, reverence, and goodness. To this end, the EHS Board and School leaders developed a new Digital Device Policy that limits access to distracting devices during the school day. The Board and School leaders are now developing a detailed policy for artificial intelligence tools. As we do so, please know that the School will not compromise its commitment to students’ intellectual growth as well as the development of ethically grounded skills, habits, and values. Academic integrity is and will remain vital to this work. In all of these efforts, the Mission underscores how we proceed.

ALUMNI COUNCIL Last spring, we relaunched the EHS Alumni Council. This year, our Alumni volunteers have helped with the community Advent Chapel, reunions, and our first ever EHS Alumni networking event. I love seeing Alumni of all ages who want to help EHS thrive!

PARENT LEADERS I want to thank our parent volunteers. EHS was well-served by dedicated leaders including PA President Mindy Rippstein, Dads Club President Will Stacy, EHS Fund Chairs Rochelle and Seth Bullock, and Auction Chairs Staci Donovan, Chelsea Pacey, and Helen Wright. Thank you! NEXT BOARD CHAIR Shelley Barineau began serving as Executive Chair of the Board in July 2026. She is the mother of four EHS graduates, has served three terms on the Board, and has led the Construction Committee for more than a decade. Shelley’s new role reflects her deep roots in this community and her sense of responsibility for the future of EHS. We are grateful for her leadership. PRAY FOR THE SCHOOL At the Constitutional Convention in 1787, Franklin opened one session by stating, “The longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth – that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid?” Our ambitions are different from Franklin’s, but, like him, we should appreciate that if we orient our lives in submission to God, then God can accomplish mighty things (Psalm 127:1). Please keep EHS – its students, parents, faculty and staff, administration, and Board – in your prayers. We want our School community to be good soil for His kingdom and a blessing to everyone who steps on campus for generations to come (Col. 1:9-10).

Richard A. Howell ’01 Executive Chair of the Board of Trustees

OUR FISCAL YEAR

Report of Gifts

Episcopal High School operates debt‑free and is an excellent steward of every tuition and donated dollar. Philanthropy through annual giving and the Endowment covers about 12 percent of the School’s annual operating expenses. Exceeding regional standards, Episcopal High School allocates at least 10 percent of our operating budget to financial aid. Lastly, as a strategic goal to attract and retain the best faculty and staff throughout the Four Pillars of academics, arts, athletics, and religion, compensation is the largest expense item in our budget.

2025-2026 EHS Fund Leadership Dear EHS Community, What a year! As we look back on the 2025–2026 school year, we are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve as your EHS Fund Chairs. EHS has been an important part of our family for many years, and this role gave us an even greater appreciation for what makes this School so special: the people. We have seen firsthand how much our families, Alumni, grandparents, faculty, staff, and friends care about EHS and want to give our students the very best experience possible. Whether your gift was large or small, whether you gave for the first time or have supported the EHS Fund for years, thank you! Every gift mattered. And what a year it was! Together, our EHS community achieved so much: • $2,354,648 raised, exceeding our $2,244,000 goal • 79% participation from current families • 254 Pillars Society members • 77 leadership gifts of $10,000 or more Those numbers are worth celebrating, but what they represent means even more. They show just how strongly our community believes in EHS and in the teachers, programs, opportunities, traditions, and experiences that make this School such a meaningful place for our children. We also want to give a huge thank you to our Grade Level Captains. You made the calls, sent the texts and emails, encouraged your friends, and cheered us on all year. We truly could not have done this without you. Having had three of our four children at EHS, this School has been a big part of our family’s life for many years. Serving as EHS Fund Chairs has made this year especially meaningful to us. Thank you for saying yes when we asked, for participating, and most of all, for caring about EHS. We are so proud of what we have accomplished together. Go Knights!

Meet the New ’26-’27 Board Members 26

NATHAN E. ALLEN

NATHAN E. ALLEN

Nathan was raised in Nederland, Texas, in the heart of Southeast Texas — a community where service to others wasn’t a pastime; it was a way of life. That foundation of family and purpose has shaped everything that followed. After earning a degree in Healthcare Administration from Texas State University and building early career experience in the Austin market, Nathan relocated to Houston in the fall of 1999 — a move that would define both his professional trajectory and personal life. Over the course of a distinguished career in healthcare, Nathan has become a trusted leader in the development of healthcare delivery systems. His expertise lies at the intersection of physician partnerships, hospital networks, and insurance relationships — navigating the complex collaboration required to build systems that truly serve patients. Nathan has held C-Suite positions across both established healthcare organizations and startup ventures, bringing strategic vision and a hands-on approach to each role. Shortly after arriving in Houston, Nathan met Iris Tichenor Allen — a fifth-generation Houstonian — and the two married in 2003. Together they are raising three sons—Charlie (EHS ’24), Graham (EHS ’27), and James, attending Presbyterian School. Nathan is quick to name his family as his greatest achievement and most cherished priority, whether that means cheering from the sidelines at a game, heading to the coast, or simply gathering everyone around the dinner table.

MATT ALTENAU

JENNIFER DUCEY

Nathan’s commitment to community extends well beyond his professional work. He has served on the Presbyterian School Board since 2020, contributing to multiple sub-committees over his tenure. Since 2018, he has also been involved with West University Little League as both a volunteer and a Board of Directors member. Nathan continues to be involved with the Episcopal Dads Club and will take on the President role for the ’26-’27 school year. In everything he does — at home, in the boardroom, and in his neighborhood — Nathan brings the same values instilled in him growing up in Southeast Texas: show up, give back, and take care of the people around you.

ALUMNI NETWORKING NIGHT This past spring, Episcopal High School launched its inaugural Alumni Networking Night, bringing together graduates representing four decades for an evening of meaningful conversation, mentorship, and professional connection. The event reflected the strength of the EHS Alumni network and the community’s commitment to supporting fellow Knights beyond graduation. A panel featuring EHS parent and former Board of Trustee Kent Wallace, John Henry Styles ’14, and Anna Giesler ’19, moderated by Grace Graubert ’18, shared career insights and personal experiences while encouraging Alumni to invest in one another through mentorship and relationship-building. Supported by the Alumni Council, the evening exemplified how philanthropy extends beyond financial gifts. By sharing their time, expertise, and experiences, Alumni demonstrated the many ways they give back to the EHS community and help foster lifelong connections among Knights.

THE TIME OF OUR WANDERING: What the Wilderness Teaches Us About Community and Care

In the Old Testament, the forty years that the Israelites spent in the wilderness were never meant to be a divine penalty or a passive waiting room. They were the essential, formative space where a group of individuals learned to become a unified people. Wilderness time strips away the illusion that we are defined by fixed walls or rigid routines. Rather, it reminds us that sacred space is not something we merely inherit; it is something we actively create together. As construction began on our new Benitez Chapel, Episcopal High School entered its own intentional “time of wandering.” Our Daily Chapel service, the “beating heart of the School,” was displaced. Faced with the choice to fragment our student body into smaller, separate assemblies for the sake of convenience, we chose instead to hold fast to our core identity: gathering as one complete, undivided body every single day.

In a modern culture that routinely fragments human beings, siloing physical health, mental wellness, and spiritual life into separate administrative boxes, Episcopal High School is taking a radically integrated approach. Later this year, well before the new Chapel opens its doors, our new Wellness Center will bring nursing, mental health counseling, and pastoral care under one roof.

That commitment led us into Alkek Gym.

This structural integration is rooted in a deeply Anglican, incarnational conviction: God is intimately concerned with the whole person: body, mind, and spirit. Long before the physical renovation was started, Associate Head of School for Academics and Student Life Tyler Montgomery began aligning these disciplines under the Religion Pillar, fostering a collaborative culture among our nurses, counselors, and chaplains.

Transforming a venue designed for noise and competition into a sanctuary of stillness and prayer required a willingness to embrace the unfinished. Guided by Chaplain Tori Gilliland’s church-planting spirit and supported generously by Athletic Director Jason Grove’s Athletics Pillar and our wonderful housekeeping and maintenance staffs, we approached the gym not as an awkward compromise, but as a co-creative project. During Interim Term of 2026, we introduced students to the space incrementally, learning together how to listen, pray, and gather when the Altar is mobile and the bleachers become pews. By refusing to rush into a rigid "final form," students and faculty alike discovered that reverence is not generated by stained glass, but by attentive, shared presence. Yet this period of growth extends far beyond our daily worship. It also marks a profound, behind-the-scenes evolution in how we think about our work and care for our students.

The physical Wellness Center will not create this synergy; it will magnify it. It stands as a foretaste of what is to come, a sanctuary where a student carrying anxiety, physical illness, or spiritual questioning is met not by a siloed department, but by an interconnected team of care. Wandering reminds us that Chapel is more than a building and that wholeness is more than a program. As we await our new Chapel home, we celebrate the gifts of this interim season: a gym turned sanctuary, a care team united in purpose, and a community discovering that God is fully present with us in the spaces in between.

FROM THE CHIEF DEVELOPMENT OFFICER Five Remarkable Things Your Generosity Made Possible 1. More than $2.35 million was raised for the EHS Fund, supporting the people, programs, and opportunities that enrich each student’s Four-Pillar experience. 2. The Auction’s Get Down ToKnight raised an incredible $1 million, bringing our community together for a fabulous evening in support of EHS. 3. The Crain-Galloway Center for the Arts opened its doors, creating inspiring new spaces for creativity, collaboration, and performance. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Lacy Crain and Joe Galloway, along with every donor whose generosity brought this extraordinary vision to life. 4. The Benitez Chapel reached 67% of its fundraising goal this school year. 5. Most importantly, our extraordinary donors and volunteers made every one of these accomplishments possible, bringing energy, generosity, and joy to our School each day. At Episcopal High School, generosity is not simply a tradition; it is part of our collective spirit. Since 1983, this community has been built by people willing to roll up their sleeves, dream big, and invest wholeheartedly in the students, faculty, programs, and spaces that make EHS extraordinary.

Because of you, this was a year of extraordinary momentum at Episcopal High School. Your generosity strengthened the student experience, brought new spaces to life, advanced our vision for the future, and made a meaningful difference across every corner of our campus and the Four Pillars. At an independent school, giving is not “extra”—it is essential. The annual, capital, and planned gifts carry forward the promise of EHS. They support the daily experiences of today’s students, strengthen the campus facilities, and preserve the Four-Pillar education for all Knights, those today and those to come. Our amazing volunteers touch every facet of campus and the student experience. We are deeply grateful for the time, energy, enthusiasm, and care they so generously share with EHS. Their dedication strengthens our School in countless ways and helps make EHS such a special place for every Knight. At EHS, generosity is how we build, how we grow, and how we ensure that the bold vision that launched this School continues to thrive. We hope you will join us again this year with your support of the EHS Fund; the Auction, Lone Star Knight; and the renewed Benitez Chapel. With your ongoing generosity, I can only imagine what the year ahead of us will bring. Again, thank you for your belief in the Mission of EHS and for being part of our Knight family. The 2025-2026 year leaves us with much to celebrate. We hope to see you on campus very soon! With the utmost gratitude,

Margaret Young Chief Development Officer

Faith and Wellness United – The New Heart of the EHS Campus When our Knights returned to campus in August, they were greeted by the impressive summer construction progress on the new Benitez Chapel and EHS Wellness Center. These thoughtfully designed spaces strengthen the EHS tradition of educating the whole person and aspire to nurture students' spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being. These projects are driven by the School’s visionary Stand For EHS campaign, ensuring that the campus will continue to support the holistic needs of future generations of Knights.

EHS Wellness Center: Collaborative Student Care Center - Opening January 2027 The new EHS Wellness Center will welcome students beginning in January 2027, opening in time for Interim Term and the start of the spring semester. Located on the first floor of the Convent building, directly adjacent to what will be the renewed Benitez Chapel, the Wellness Center will provide a dedicated space to support the well-being of EHS students. While we look forward to celebrating this important milestone, construction on the renewed Benitez Chapel will continue as we look toward its early 2028 opening. Thoughtfully designed around the belief that true wellness encompasses spirit, mind, and body, the Wellness Center reflects EHS’s significant commitment to providing integrated student support through three essential components: • New Chaplain Offices: Positioned to provide immediate pastoral care, guidance, and spiritual mentorship, keeping the school's religious identity rooted in daily student life. • Mental Health Suite: A private, comforting complex of new counseling offices designed for licensed professionals to deliver confidential, proactive emotional support and counseling. • Relocated Health Clinic: A modernized medical space where campus nurses can administer everyday healthcare, first aid, and long-term wellness monitoring in an accessible, central campus location.

The Wellness Center represents far more than a renovation. It embodies the EHS Mission and conviction that students flourish when they are supported academically, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. By bringing these vital resources together in one thoughtfully designed setting, EHS is creating a place where every student can pause, reflect, seek guidance, and regain strength amid the demands of a rigorous academic experience. Positioned alongside the Benitez Chapel, the Wellness Center forms a powerful expression of the School's Episcopal identity. This transformative project has been made possible through the generosity and vision of EHS benefactors whose commitment extends well beyond buildings. Their investment is creating a lasting impact that will serve generations of students, preparing EHS graduates to enter the world ready to live lives of significance in service to others. Sincerely,

Shelley Torian Barineau Construction Committee Chair Board of Trustees

PARENTS ASSOCIATION Under the leadership of Parents Association President Mindy Rippstein, this organization began its work in May 2025, preparing for luncheons, speakers, informative talks/discussions, Auction 2026, and many more activities that would not have been possible without this group of talented and hardworking women. As the summer began, several committees were at work planning for the school year. The Parent-to-Parent Committee and Mentor Moms welcomed new families and helped make their transition from middle school to high school as stress-free as possible. They were there to answer questions and prepare the families as they entered the EHS community. Parent representatives helped plan fundraising events specific to each class. Concession stand sales raised funds to help support the freshman class. Homecoming 2025, Disco Knight, hosted by the sophomore class, saw the largest attendance ever. Poinsettia sales raised funds for the juniors. The Senior Style Show, Lights, Camera, Fashion, featured the artistry and style of the senior class as they walked the runway. With the Style Show back on campus, the Alkek Gymnasium was transformed into a New York runway. Both the Style Show and Homecoming had the largest number of participants in School history. Our EHS moms' participation was on full display with break cookies, spirit treats, library help, staff relief (Crain Hall, Convent desks), and the HANDS group assisting with collating, labeling, and mailing for the Development/Auction Office. Volunteers could be seen on campus putting up academic honors flyers, decorating for the holidays, and planning for special events throughout the year. Our Moms in Prayer and Care Committee continued to serve the entire EHS community through prayer and deeds. The 2026-27 Parent Association will be in good hands, not missing a beat, under the capable leadership of 2026-27 President Talley Gregg.

DADS CLUB The Episcopal High School Dads Club, in its 40th year of operation, contributed financial support, volunteer hours, friendship, and enthusiasm to the EHS community. The Dads Club success is highlighted by the hard work of the executive board and club members. EHS offers many opportunities for our dads, and we welcome their participation in community events. These gentlemen work throughout the year to provide the School with the tools necessary for extraordinary student success. Under the leadership of Will Stacy for the 2025-26 school year, the EHS Dads Club contributed over $42,000 to the School, supporting all Four Pillars and the community as a whole. To list a few of our funding projects, during the past year, the EHS Dads Club helped to fund polo shirts for new faculty and staff, athletic training room equipment, new cameras for the arts, weight room technology equipment, and Christmas and end-of-year dinners for the food service staff. The Dads Club continued to financially support Field Knight T-shirts, dinners for opening night performing arts shows, the end-of-year lunch for faculty and staff, Pillar support, student appreciation events, Pink Ribbon Knight, football and basketball Challenger events, college counseling events, guest speakers, Dads Club Breakfasts, and school bus payments. It is our hands-on philosophy that makes the Dads Club successful. The 2023-24 board agreed to fund the purchase of a new school bus to be used by the EHS community with a pledge of $110,000 to be paid off over a four-year period. The dads' personal involvement at EHS has proven to be a wonderful addition to campus life. Nathan Allen, President for the 2026-27 school year, is ready to meet the challenge of leading the group to another strong year. The Annual Spring Golf Tournament, our main fundraiser, will be played on Monday, April 12 at Westwood. We hope you will join us!

ENDOWMENT UPDATE The Endowment Fund serves as a long-term investment vehicle for Episcopal High School. The basic purpose and primary goal is to achieve long-term appreciation of principal and to provide distribution to help fund financial aid and the operation and maintenance of the School's properties and programs as directed by the Episcopal High School Endowment Fund Board. The Board continues to focus strategically not only to enhance the long-term sustainability of the School, but to help the School in future years keep tuition increases at minimal levels. As of June 30, 2026, the Endowment Fund ended with a balance of $73 million. In 20252026, the endowment contributed $2.11 million to the School’s annual operating budget of $40.8 million, and once again the Fund Board is pleased that the Endowment Fund could make a contribution of that significance to the daily operating needs of the School. Fiscal Year 2026 proved to be a strong year for global financial markets, supported by resilient economic growth, robust corporate earnings, and continued investment in artificial intelligence. While investors grappled with periodic geopolitical tensions and questions surrounding the path of inflation and interest rates, risk assets broadly advanced. U.S. equities delivered strong gains, led by technology and AI-related companies, while improving investor confidence and broadening market participation benefited small-cap stocks. International equities also performed well, with emerging markets generating particularly strong returns as investors recognized their growing role in the global technology supply chain. Fixed income returns were more muted as Treasury yields drifted higher during the second half of the fiscal year. Against this backdrop, the Endowment Fund's diversified portfolio generated a preliminary fiscal year return of 16.8%, while maintaining performance broadly consistent with its long-term strategic allocation and benchmark. Episcopal High School’s Endowment Fund welcomes contributions and pledges of any amount. The Endowment Fund is a perfect way to preserve a donor’s charitable intent for generations to come. Should you wish to learn more about endowment giving, please contact Margaret Young, Chief Development Officer, at myoung@ehshouston.org. Margaret would be happy to discuss endowment giving opportunities in more detail.

The Legacy Society recognizes those who have invested in the future of Episcopal High School by including the School in their wills, retirement plans, trusts, or other estate plans. A planned gift strengthens Episcopal High School’s financial foundation and ongoing commitment to a Four-Pillar education. The Legacy Society does not require a minimum amount to become a member. Planned gifts may support general School programs, scholarships, or can be integrated into Episcopal High School’s endowment as permanent capital, creating a lasting impact that extends well beyond the current horizon. This strategic approach secures our School’s long-term prosperity, enabling EHS to continue delivering an exceptional education for our current students and those to come.

“When I was planning my estate, I felt strongly that EHS needed to be included. Leaving a legacy gift was my way of saying that EHS mattered to me—and it will continue to matter to me, even long after I’m gone.” Andrew B. Hawthorn ’91 Board of Trustees EHS Legacy Society Member
