AWARD PRESENTATION Honoree David L. Abramson, MD Honorees Lynne and Marty Zaikov ENTERTAINMENT Idina Menzel

Idina Menzel is a powerhouse multi-hyphenate: a singer, an actress in film and TV, a songwriter, a Broadway star, and a philanthropist.

She rose to fame for her role as Maureen in the popular Broadway musical Rent, and her career took off when she won a Tony Award for her role as Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, in the smash musical Wicked. Her voice can be heard as Elsa in Disney’s Oscar® winning Frozen, the second highest grossing animated films of all time, with more than $1.2 billion in worldwide box office revenue. The film’s song “Let It Go,” voiced by Menzel, became an instant international phenomenon, winning the Oscar® for Best Original Song – where Menzel performed it at the ceremony – and the Grammy® Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media. The track reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100, making Menzel the first artist with both a Billboard Top 10 hit and a Tony Award for acting.

A skillful songwriter, Menzel’s prolific recording career includes multiple cast albums and the solo albums: Still I Can’t Be Still, Here, I Stand, Idina, and her latest album, Christmas: A Season of Love. Menzel received the Breakthrough Artist of the Year Award at Billboard’s annual Women in Music event in 2014 and performed the National Anthem at Super Bowl XLIX. Menzel is consistently lauded for her strong yet emotional live performances. Accompanied by world-renowned symphony orchestras, Menzel has played to sold-out audiences and demonstrated why she is one of the great performers of her time. The Denver Post dubbed her “The Streisand of her generation,” while The New York Times praised Menzel as “an entertainer with a phenomenal voice… Diana Ross with ten times the stamina and lung power.”

Philanthropy is also important to Menzel, who co-founded the A BroaderWay Foundation in 2010. The organization is dedicated to offering girls from underserved communities an outlet for self-expression and creativity through arts-centered programs.

DAVID L. ABRAMSON, MD David L. Abramson, MD, always knew he wanted to make an impact for his patients and community. With his unmatched enthusiasm for medicine, commitment to excellence and strong spirit of giving, Dr. Abramson has done exactly that. Throughout his two-decade tenure at Englewood Health, Dr. Abramson has served with distinction on numerous boards and committees, including 12 years of service as Chief of Plastic Surgery. He is also past President of the Medical Staff known for passionately engaging with colleagues and eagerly serving as mentor to many.

As Trustee for both the Hospital and Health System Board for nine years, he helps cultivate Englewood Health’s thriving culture of philanthropy and inspires giving from patients, colleagues and the broader community. Together with his wife, Karen, Dr. Abramson has helped to revolutionize care at Englewood Health through a commitment to leadership-level giving – broadening access, advancing technology and creating much-needed community programs and resources.

Dr. Abramson is recognized as an award-winning surgeon who delivers care that is personalized and compassionate. A graduate of Johns Hopkins University and New York University School of Medicine, he lives in Alpine with Karen and their daughter, Ally.

LYNNE AND MARTY ZAIKOV Lynne and Marty Zaikov first met in their twenties thanks to a family friend with a hunch they would be a good match. It was better than good – Lynne and Marty are a terrific match. More than 50 years later, this special couple is recognized for their unwavering leadership and commitment to realizing the next-era in healthcare.

For nearly two decades, the Zaikovs’ generosity has enabled Englewood Health to create a brighter future for patients and families throughout our region. In his role as Englewood Health Foundation Trustee, Marty is always among the first to step forward in support of the health system’s bold vision for the future. Lynne is a steadfast ambassador and works together with Marty to inspire countless others to join in support of Englewood Health.

Recently, the Englewood Health Foundation relocated to The Lynne and Marty Zaikov Center for Philanthropy. This new ‘home’ is not the only welcoming abode that they so generously funded. At Englewood Hospital, the Lynne and Marty Zaikov Family Healing Garden offers Englewood Health caregivers a bright and welcoming space for respite and camaraderie. Their home in Alpine is always happily a flurry of activity, as they enjoy their three children and 10 grandchildren.
