‫"مصر للطٌران" النالل الرسمً لمؤتمر المجلس العالمً للمطارات‬

EgyptAir plans to launch Kigali service

EgyptAir plans to launch twice weekly Cairo-Kigali-Entebbe-Cairo service, effective 27 March 2019. The carrier will operate the route with Boeing 737-800 equipment.

EgyptAir announces new Cairo-Washington flights by Dreamliner aircraft Egypt’s flagship airline EgyptAir has announced the operation of new flights between Cairo and Washington DC using its newest Dreamliner B787-9 starting June.

In a press release on Tuesday, EgyptAir said it plans to operate three weekly nonstop flights to the US‟s Dulles International Airport starting 3 June with its newest fleet, the first aircraft of which the company will receive by the end of March.

The Dreamliner B787-9 features multiple hi-tech facilities and holds 309 seats, 30 of which, the „Super Diamond Full Flat Bed Seats‟ in business class, provide passengers with more privacy.

The aircraft is also equipped with WIFI and mobile phone connectivity, as well as wider personal screens.

According to a statement by EgyptAir, the new route comes as part of the national airline's plan to add more strategic points to its network and in light of the fleet modernisation plan to add up to 45 new aircraft.

"As part of the general strategy of the Civil Aviation Sector in Egypt, under the leadership of the Minister of Civil Aviation, EgyptAir has set ambitious plans to expand its network to new horizons worldwide,” Ahmed Adel, EgyptAir chairman and CEO, said.

KCAA on the spot for granting Ethiopian Airlines cargo permit Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) is on the spot for issuing permit to Ethiopian Airways to operate cargo flights between Nairobi and Europe even after the objection from Kenya Airways #ticker:KQ and other local freight airlines.

Last month, KCAA granted Ethiopian Airlines permission to operate 15 ad-hoc cargo flights from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to Europe, which is a peak month for flower exports.

Ad-hoc flight is where an airline applies for a short permit to operate non-scheduled flight on a given route for a certain period of time.

The move came as bad news to local players, who are still struggling to get the numbers and remain profitable in the competitive market dominated by European and Middle-East carriers.

The national carrier chairman Michael Joseph said the move by the regulator to allow ET to operate the ad-hoc flights did not go down well with local players.

“Objections were raised by local players over the move by KCAA to allow Ethiopian Airways to conduct ad-hoc flights from Nairobi to Europe,” said Mr Joseph.

The Ethiopian Airlines had written to KCAA requesting to operate 15 ad-hoc flights to Liege out of Nairobi from January 23 to February 8 this year.

KQ and Astral, which operate in the route had objected the move, but KCAA granted the traffic rights to the airline saying that the local operators had no capacity to meet the demand for flowers. “

2 We would like to strongly object to the application for ad-hoc flights by Ethiopian Airlines to operate from Nairobi directly to Liege,” said one of the operators in communication to the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority.

“Granting ET this ad-hoc clearance would amount to granting them fifth freedom traffic rights whereby they do not even route via their base country. This again is unfair to the local carriers,” the airline added.

Local cargo operators are angered by the fact that Ethiopia does not allow cargo airlines from Kenya to operate Nairobi-Addis-Ababa-Nairobi route.

Recently, Ethiopia‟s aviation regulator refused to grant a local freight carrier clearance to land and uplift cargo from Addis to Nairobi. Their client‟s cargo was eventually uplifted by ET to Nairobi despite the fact the airline was operating back to Kenya and not from a third-party country.

Transport Principal Secretary Esther Koimet, said Tuesday that there should be spirit of reciprocity between the two countries in terms of opertaions.

“It can only be good if Ethiopia also allows cargo airlines to ply Nairobi-Addis route,” said Ms Koimet who declined to talk further on the issue.

The PS directed Shipping to KCAA Director General Gilbert Kibe, who did not respond to the questions.

“I have a board meeting at the moment and I will decide whether to respond to your questions or not,” said Mr Kibe.

Open skies policy African countries have been slow in adopting open skies policy for fear of competition with other players in the continent.

African nations are protecting their airlines from stiff competition, putting in doubt whether the dream of open sky policy will be achieved.

Oman Air and Turkish Airlines extend their existing codeshare agreement Oman Air and Turkish Airlines have revised the codeshare agreement signed earlier. Under the revised agreement, Oman Air will codeshare on Turkish Airlines operating flights to Rome, Copenhagen and Algiers, while Turkish Airlines will codeshare on Oman Air operating flights to Salalah.

The codeshare agreement allows guests to benefit from the outstanding products and services offered by both carriers on these routes.

If You Had Bought Deutsche Lufthansa Stock Three Years Ago, You Could Pocket A 59% Gain Today By buying an index fund, investors can approximate the average market return. But if you buy good businesses at attractive prices, your portfolio returns could exceed the average market return. For example, the Deutsche Lufthansa AG (FRA:LHA) share price is up 59% in the last three years, clearly besting than the market return of around 9.6% (not including dividends).

While the efficient markets hypothesis continues to be taught by some, it has been proven that markets are over-reactive dynamic systems, and investors are not always rational. One imperfect but simple way to consider how the market perception of a company has shifted is to compare the change in the earnings per share (EPS) with the share price movement.

Deutsche Lufthansa was able to grow its EPS at 19% per year over three years, sending the share price higher. We note that the 17% yearly (average) share price gain isn‟t too far from the EPS growth rate. Coincidence? Probably not. That suggests that the market sentiment around the company hasn‟t changed much over that time. Au contraire, the share price change has arguably mimicked the EPS growth.

What About Dividends?

When looking at investment returns, it is important to consider the difference between total shareholder return (TSR) and share price return. The TSR is a return calculation that accounts for the value of cash dividends (assuming that any dividend received was reinvested) and the calculated value of any discounted capital raisings. 3 A Different Perspective While the broader market lost about 3.8% in the twelve months, Deutsche Lufthansa shareholders did even worse, losing 11% (even including dividends). However, it could simply be that the share price has been impacted by broader market jitters. It might be worth keeping an eye on the fundamentals, in case there‟s a good opportunity. Longer term investors wouldn‟t be so upset, since they would have made 7.6%, each year, over five years. It could be that the recent sell-off is an opportunity, so it may be worth checking the fundamental data for signs of a long term growth trend. Aegean Airlines set for 7-year bond issue to fund fleet renewal ATHENS, March 4 (Reuters) - Greece’s largest carrier Aegean Airlines will proceed with a sale of bonds on March 5-7 to raise up to 200 million euros ($226.86 million) for down payments on new Airbus aircraft and the construction of a new pilot training centre.

According to the public offering prospectus, about 30 percent of the issue will be allocated to retail investors, while 70 percent will go to “qualified investors”.

The seven-year bonds, each with a nominal value of 1,000 euros, will pay a semiannual coupon. In Greece interest payments are taxed at 15 percent. Trading of the bonds on the Athens stock exchange will start on March 13.

Pricing will be determined via book building.

Aegean, a member of the Star Alliance airline group, will use 75 percent of the proceeds to partly finance down payments on new aircraft based on a deal with Airbus to renew its fleet of single-aisle planes and add capacity for future expansion.

Aegean picked Airbus in March last year for an order of up to 42 aircraft worth $5 billion in one of the biggest investments by a private Greek company since the country‟s debt crisis erupted in 2010.

The down payments are due from the first quarter through to the last quarter of 2023 for new generation A320neo and A321 Airbus jets.

2 Deliveries of the new planes are expected to start in the first half of 2020 and conclude by the end of 2024.

LOT puts greater focus on EX-YU market

LOT Polish Airlines will continue to grow its operations to the former Yugoslavia this summer by adding one new route to its network, as well as increasing frequencies and capacity on a number of existing services. Furthermore, the airline has identified the Balkan region as an important market for its future development. The Polish national carrier will commence a one weekly seasonal service from Krakow to Dubrovnik from May 25, making it its sixth route to Croatia following services from Warsaw to Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, Pula and Zadar, with the latter four all being maintained only during the summer, all of which will see a boost in capacity this year. "Croatia is becoming more and more popular among our passengers each year and is one of the most common holiday destinations in the Mediterranean basin for Polish travellers. We are convinced that, as a result of LOT's enhanced offer, Poles will be even more willing to visit Croatia, as well as plan a longer vacation or weekend trip", the carrier said. In addition, the airline will boost capacity on its Warsaw - Zagreb service by operating both of its daily flights with the 112-seat Embraer E195 jet.

2 The airline plans to increase its frequencies to Belgrade this summer from eleven to twelve per week starting in late September. "There is no dominant category of passengers on our Belgrade service. It varies based on the day of the week. Of those transferring through Warsaw, the majority of passengers connect onto flights to Toronto and several points in Western Europe", LOT said. Furthermore, the carrier will add an additional weekly flight to Ljubljana this summer for a total of seven per week and boost capacity from the Dash 8 turboprop to the jet-engine Embraer aircraft. The airline codeshares on its services out of Warsaw with almost all of the national carriers from the former Yugoslavia - Adria Airways, Air Serbia and Croatia Airlines.

Following the successful launch of its Warsaw - Skopje service last year, the airline will maintain the route six times per week this summer. The carrier noted that although these flights provide opportunities for Polish tourists to discover Macedonia in greater numbers, its primary focus is on transfer passengers, in particular those connecting to the United States, Canada and Scandinavia. "LOT offers passengers from Macedonia the most comfortable connections to Scandinavia and Western Europe, as well as the airports we fly to in North America. We are sure the new offer will meet the expectations of passengers travelling for business and leisure", the airline said. It added that the flights are scheduled so as to offer fast and convenient connections from Warsaw. .

Elsewhere within the region, the Polish carrier has announced it will launch nonstop flights from Budapest to both Brussels and Bucharest this September, complementing its existing services from the Hungarian capital to Chicago, Krakow, London City, New York and Warsaw. Its CEO, Rafał Milczarski, previously noted the airline would focus on the Baltic and the Balkan region. Notably, emphasis will be put on cities in the area which serve as hubs for Star Alliance member airlines with whom LOT can cooperate.
