‫فٌدٌو| مصر للطٌران‪ :‬زٌادة عدد الرحالت وفق جدول العمل الصٌفً‬ ‫قال الطٌار شرٌف عزت‪ ،‬رئٌس مجلس إدارة شركة مصر للطٌران للخطوط الجوٌة‪،‬‬ ‫إن الشركة ستبدأ فً وضع جدول جدٌد لرحالتها الجوٌة‪ ،‬وذلك وف ًقا للمتغٌرات التً‬ ‫رصدوها ومتطلبات السوق والمسافرٌن‪ ،‬الف ًتا إلى أنه سٌتم بدء العمل وف ًقا لهذا‬ ‫الجدول مع نهاٌة شهر مارس وحتى أكتوبر القادم‪.‬‬ ‫وأضاف عزت‪ ،‬لفضائٌة سً بً سً اكسترا‪ ،‬أنه سٌتم من خالل الجدول الجدٌد‬ ‫زٌادة عدد الرحالت لجنٌف وموسكو وبرلٌن‪ ،‬بالتزامن مع استئناف الرحالت‬ ‫لموسكو‪ ،‬و‪ 19‬رحلة ألبوظبً‪ ،‬و‪ 5‬رحالت لبغداد‪ ،‬واستئناف رحالت أربٌل فً‬ ‫ً‬ ‫مؤكدا أن مصر للطٌران ستشمل‬ ‫العراق‪ ،‬و‪ 14‬رحلة للمغرب‪ ،‬و‪ 5‬رحالت لكٌنٌا‪،‬‬ ‫رحالتها من القاهرة‪ ،‬وألماكن عدٌدة فً أوروبا والخلٌج وأفرٌقٌا والشرق األوسط‬ ‫واألقصى أٌ ً‬ ‫ضا‪.‬‬ ‫وتبدأ شركة مصر للطٌران‪ ،‬العمل وفق جدول رحالتها الصٌفً بالتزامن مع فترات‬ ‫العطالت واإلجازات السنوٌة للمصرٌ​ٌن العاملٌن بالخارج‪ ،‬فضالً عن زٌارة العدٌد‬ ‫من السائحٌن من دول الخلٌج لمصر خالل هذه الفترة‪.‬‬

‫‪2‬‬ ‫‪http://www.elbalad.news/‬‬ ‫وأضاف "وزٌر الطٌران"‪ ،‬قائال‪ ،‬إن المرحلة المقبلة ستشهد مزٌد من التقدم والبناء واستكمال‬ ‫للمشروعات العمالقة‪ ،‬من أجل وضع مصر فً المكانة التً تستحقها‪.‬‬ ‫قال إنه "من المحتمل تشغٌل مطاري سفنكس والعاصمة اإلدارة الجدٌدة‪ ،‬فً ٌونٌو المقبل‪ ،‬وذلك بعد‬ ‫انتهاء مراحل التشغٌل التجرٌبٌة للمطارٌن"‪.‬‬ ‫وأضاف أن " المطارات الجدٌدة مازالت فً مرحلة التشغٌل التجرٌبٌة على األنظمة‪ ،‬وأنه بمجرد‬ ‫االنتهاء من هذه المرحلة سٌتم فتحها على أنظمة المطارات العالمٌة‪ ،‬لبدء عملها فعلٌا"‪.‬‬ ‫وعلى الجانب اآلخر‪ ،‬صرح الطٌار شرٌف عزت‪ ،‬رئٌس شركة "مصر للطٌران" للخطوط الجوٌة‪،‬‬ ‫بأن الشركة ستستأنف رحالتها إلى أربٌل بالعراق اعتبارً ا من ‪ 13‬إبرٌل المقبل‪.‬‬ ‫أوضح "عزت"‪ ،‬فً تصرٌحات صحفٌة له الٌوم‪ ،‬السبت الماضى‪ ،‬أن التشغٌل ٌبدأ بثالث رحالت‬ ‫أسبوعٌة أٌام اإلثنٌن والثالثاء والجمعة‪ ،‬من المقرر أن تسٌر رحلة رابعة األحد‪ ،‬اعتبارا من ‪16‬‬ ‫سبتمبر المقبل‪.‬‬ ‫ٌذكر أن جمٌع الرحالت الدولٌة من وإلً "أربٌل" كانت قد توقفت سبتمبر الماضً‪.‬‬ ‫أعلنت مصر للطٌران‪ ،‬الناقل الوطنً لجمهورٌة مصر العربٌة‪ ،‬والعضو الحادي والعشرٌن بتحالف‬ ‫ستار العالمً‪ ،‬عن بدء العمل بجدول رحالتها الصٌفً والذي ٌتزامن مع فترات العطالت واإلجازات‬ ‫السنوٌة لعدد من المصرٌ​ٌن العاملٌن بالخارج‪ ،‬السٌما العدٌد من السائحٌن والزائرٌن من دول الخلٌج‬ ‫العربً ومنطقة الشرق األوسط‪.‬‬ ‫ٌتضمن الجدول الصٌفً المقرر العمل به بنهاٌة مارس الحالً‪ ،‬وٌستمر حتى نهاٌة أكتوبر المقبل‪،‬‬ ‫زٌادة رحالتها من القاهرة إلى العدٌد من الوجهات فً أوروبا وأفرٌقٌا‪ ،‬ومنطقة الخلٌج والشرق‬ ‫األوسط والشرق األقصى‪.‬‬ ‫صرح الطٌار شرٌف عزت‪ ،‬رئٌس مجلس إدارة شركة مصر للطٌران للخطوط الجوٌة‪ً ،‬‬ ‫قائال‪" :‬لقد‬ ‫ً‬ ‫جدوال مدرو ًسا خالل فترة الصٌف المقبل الذي سٌشهد تغٌ​ٌرات ملحوظة‬ ‫حرصت الشركة على وضع‬ ‫وتتناسب مع متطلبات السوق والمسافرٌن‪".‬‬ ‫وأضاف أن هناك زٌادة فً عدد رحالت مصر للطٌران لوجهات رئٌسٌة على شبكتها‪ ،‬مثل برلٌن‬ ‫وجنٌف لتصبح بواقع خمس رحالت أسبوعًٌا لكل منهما‪ ،‬هذا باإلضافة إلى استئناف الشركة لرحالتها‬ ‫إلى موسكو وذلك بمعدل ثالث رحالت أسبوعًٌا‪ ،‬أما عن منطقة الخلٌج العربً والشرق األوسط‪ ،‬فقد‬ ‫شهدت الشبكة زٌادة فً تردداتها إلى مدٌنة أبو ظبً ‪ 19‬رحلة أسبوعًٌا‪ ،‬كما تم إضافة ترددات إلى‬ ‫العاصمة العراقٌة بغداد لتصل إلى ‪ 5‬رحالت أسبوعًٌا‪.‬‬ ‫كما تعلن الشركة أٌ ً‬ ‫ضا عن استئناف رحالتها إلى مدٌنة أربٌل العراقٌة اعتبارً ا من شهر إبرٌل المقبل‬ ‫بواقع ‪ 4‬رحالت أسبوعًٌا خالل الجدول الصٌفً‪.‬‬ ‫وفً أفرٌقٌا‪ ،‬فقد تم زٌادة رحالت الشركة إلى المغرب لتصل إلى ‪ 14‬رحلة أسبوعًٌا وكذلك إلى‬ ‫العاصمة الكٌنٌة نٌروبً لتصل عدد رحالتها إلى خمس رحالت أسبوعًٌا‪ ،‬هذا ومن المقرر تشغٌل‬ ‫رحلتٌن جدٌدتٌن بٌن سوهاج والكوٌت اعتبارا من بدء الجدول الصٌفً‪.‬‬

‫تعرف على شروط وأسعار مصــر للطٌران لنقل األطفال بدون‬ ‫مرافق على متن رحالتها‬ ‫توفر الشركة الوطنٌة مصر للطٌران لعمالئها خدمة نقل الطفال والقصر الغٌر مصحوبٌن‬ ‫ببالغٌن أو مرافقٌن وفق اشتراطات خاصة‪ ،‬وٌتم تصنٌف األطفال الذٌن ٌسافرون بمفردهم ‪-‬‬ ‫دون إشراف من أحد األخوة‪ /‬األخوات أو الوالدٌن أو الوصى والذٌن ٌبلغ عمرهم ‪ 15‬عامًا أو‬ ‫أكثر على أنهم قصر غٌر مصحوبٌن ببالغٌن‪.‬‬ ‫وصنفت الشركة اعمار االطفال كما ٌلً‪:‬‬ ‫األطفال أقل من عامٌن‬ ‫األطفال أكثر من عامٌن واقل من ‪ 6‬اعوام‬ ‫األطفال من ‪ 6‬أعوام واقل من ‪ 12‬عام‬ ‫أما بالنسبة لالطفال غٌر المصحوبٌن بمرافق والذٌن تقل أعمارهم عن عامٌن ربما ال تتم‬ ‫الموافقة على نقلهم من قبل الشركة‪.‬‬ ‫األطفال اكثر من عامٌن واقل من ‪ 6‬اعوام‬ ‫أما من تزٌد أعمارهم عن عامٌن وتقل عن ‪ 6‬أعوام ٌتم الموافقة ولكن بشروط وهى استكمال‬ ‫توقٌع نموذج ‪EGYPTAIR‬للقُصَّر غٌر المصحوبٌن وتوقٌعه بشكل صحٌح من قبل الوصً‬ ‫و‪/‬أو الوالد (الوالدٌن)‪ ،‬كما أنه ٌجب على الوصً المفوض تسلٌم الطفل فً مطار المغادرة‪ ،‬كما‬ ‫أنهعند الوصول‪ٌ ،‬جب على الوالدٌن‪/‬األوصٌاء المذكورٌن فً نموذج القُصَّر غٌر المصحوبٌن‬ ‫مقابلة الطفل فً مطار الوصول‪ ،‬وٌجب على المضٌفٌن الجوٌ​ٌن اإلضافٌ​ٌن مرافقة الطفل أثناء‬ ‫الرحلة‪.‬‬ ‫وبالنسبة لتكالٌف الرحلة لالطفال من عامٌن الى ‪ 6‬اعوام فسٌكون ثمن التذكرة بنسبة ‪%100‬‬ ‫من ثمن التذكرة الساري للبالغٌن‪ ،‬باإلضافة إلى ثمن تذكرة الذهاب الساري للبالغٌن بالكامل‬ ‫للمضٌفٌن الجوٌ​ٌن الذٌن سٌرافقون الطفل فً رحلته‪ .‬األطفال من ‪ 6‬اعوام واقل من ‪ 12‬عام‬ ‫أما بالنسبة للقاصر الذي عمره ٌزٌد عن ‪ 6‬أعوام وٌقل عن ‪ 12‬عامًا فستتمالموافقة على نقلهم‬ ‫بشرط استكمال نموذج ‪EGYPTAIR‬لالطفال غٌر المصحوبٌن بمرافق وتوقٌعه بشكل‬ ‫صحٌح من قبل الوصً و‪/‬أو الوالد (الوالدٌن)‪ ،‬وٌجب على الوصً المفوض تسلٌم الطفل فً‬ ‫مطار المغادرة‪ ،‬وعند الوصول‪ٌ ،‬جب على الوالدٌن‪/‬األوصٌاء المذكورٌن فً نموذج القُصَّر‬ ‫غٌر المصحوبٌن مقابلة الطفل فً مطار الوصول‬ ‫أما الرسوم المستحقة علٌهم فستكون بنسبة ‪ %100‬من ثمن التذكرة الساري​ للبالغٌن‪.‬‬

‫‪2‬‬ ‫‪http://saqr.news‬‬ ‫ما ٌجب قبل الرحلة‬ ‫ٌجب على االب او االم فسر إجراءات الرحلة للطفل‪ ،‬كما ٌجب على األطفال الذٌن ٌسافرون‬ ‫بمفردهم أن ٌتحدثوا فقط الى موظفً مصر للطٌران إذا كانوا بحاجة إلى مساعدة أو طرح‬ ‫أسئلة‪ .‬وٌجب عدم مغادرة المطار‪ ،‬أو منطقة البوابة أو الطائرة ما لم ٌرافقهم ممثل من مصر‬ ‫للطٌران ٌرتدي شارة‪.‬‬ ‫ومن متطلبات التسجٌل الوصول إلى المطار قبل وقت المغادرة بـ ‪ 90‬دقٌقة بالنسبة للرحالت‬ ‫المحلٌة وساعتٌن قبل الرحالت الدولٌة‪ ،‬كما أنه ال ٌجوز لك استخدام خٌارات الوٌب‪ ،‬أو‬ ‫المحمول أو الخدمة الذاتٌة لتسجٌل قاصر او طفل غٌر مصحوب بمرافق‪.‬‬ ‫خطة الرحلة‬ ‫فً أثناء الرحلة الجوٌة سٌتحقق طاقم المقصورة فً الرحلة بشكل دوري من أن الطفل فً حالة‬ ‫من الراحة والرفاهٌة‪ ،‬وسٌكون جمٌع الطاقم على دراٌة باحتٌاجاته‪ ،‬والبد على الوالدٌن او‬ ‫الوصً اعالم الطفل بخطط سفره ومن سٌقابله لدى وصوله‪ ،‬وأنه على دراٌة بأهمٌة جواز‬ ‫السفر والتذكرة‪.‬‬ ‫بعد الهبوط‪ ،‬سٌرافق طفلك موظفو ‪EGYPTAIR‬فً المطار‪ ،‬الذٌن سٌساعدونه فً‬ ‫إجراءات الوصول‪ .‬وبعد ذلك سوف ٌتم تسلٌم طفلك إلى الشخص المرشح من قبلك لمقابلتهم‪.‬‬ ‫ٌجب على هذا الشخص أن ٌقدم إثبات هوٌة‪.‬‬ ‫اجراءات اضافٌة‬ ‫بالنسبة للسفر واالنتقال من وإلى الوالٌات المتحدة األمرٌكٌة‪ٌ ،‬تطلب من الوالد أو الوصً‬ ‫الحضور عند هبوط الطائرة أو مقابلة الطفل فً الصالة‪ ،‬وفً حالة وجود رحلة طٌران مكملة‬ ‫(ترانزٌت) على خط جوي مختلف فالبد من الرجوع إلى لوائح نقل االطفال الغٌر مصحوبٌن‬ ‫بمرافق الخاصة بهم‪.‬‬ ‫ما ٌحق للطفل اصطحابه من امتعة وحقائب‬ ‫وفٌما ٌتعلق باألمتعة فانه ٌحق لالطفال والقصرال غٌر المصحوبٌن الحصول على وزن‬ ‫األمتعة المسموح به بالكامل مثل البالغٌن حسب درجة السفر لدٌهم‪ ،‬مع الحرص على أن تكون‬ ‫األمتعة التً تحمل بالٌد قلٌلة إلى أدنى حد‪.‬‬ ‫متى ٌتم فرض رسوم وتكالٌف إضافٌة‪:‬‬ ‫ٌتم فرض رسم بقٌمة ‪ 25‬دوالر على كل مسار و كل طفل فً كل المسارات الدولٌة و المحلٌة‪،‬‬ ‫وفً رحالت الطٌران المكملة إلى‪/‬من الوالٌات المتحدة األمرٌكٌة فٌجب تحصٌل رسومًا‬ ‫مقدارها ‪ 100‬دوالر أمرٌكً كرسوم لهذه الخدمة‪ ،‬وفً رحالت الطٌران المكملة إلى لوفتهانزا‬ ‫ٌجب تحصٌل رسومًا مقدارها ‪ٌ 40‬ورو كرسوم لهذه الخدمة للوجهات التً تقع فً أوروبا‬ ‫و‪ٌ 80‬ورو للوجهات األخرى‪.‬‬

‫تأخر إقالع ‪ 3‬رحالت دولٌة من مطار القاهرة بسبب الصٌانة وسوء‬ ‫األحوال الجوٌة‬ ‫كتب أحمد حمادة‬ ‫شهد مطار القاهرة الدولى‪ ،‬صباح الٌوم السبت‪ ،‬تأخر إقالع ‪ 3‬رحالت دولٌة عن‬ ‫مواعٌدها المقررة فى جدول التشغٌل‪ ،‬بسبب أعمال الصٌانة وظروف‬ ‫التشغٌل وسوء األحوال الجوٌة‪.‬‬ ‫وقالت مصادر مالحٌة‪ ،‬فى تصرٌحات صحفٌة‪ ،‬إن رحلة خطوط طٌران اإلمارات‬ ‫رقم ‪ 926‬المتجهة إلى دبى تأخرت ساعتٌن عن موعد إقالعها المحدد سلفا‪ ،‬كما‬ ‫تأخرت رحلة طٌران االتحاد رقم ‪ 650‬المتجهة إلى أبو ظبى ساعة‪ ،‬بسبب سوء‬ ‫األحوال الجوٌة فى مطار الوصول‪.‬‬ ‫وأضافت المصادر‪ ،‬أن رحلة الخطوط الجوٌة الكوٌتٌ​ٌة رقم ‪ 1544‬المتجهة إلى‬ ‫الكوٌت تأخرت عن موعد إقالعها ساعتٌن ونصف الساعة بسبب أعمال الصٌانة‬ ‫وظروف التشغٌل‪.‬‬

SOMEONE REDESIGNED EGYPT'S KIT AND PLANE FOR THE WORLD CUP AND THEY'RE BALLIN' Using design elements from Egypt‟s storied Pharaonic history coupled with expert use of national colours, these designs are too hot to trot.

You might think that a football team‟s kit and caboodle isn‟t much to think about compared to the skill of the players wearing them, but the aesthetic value and presentation of a team‟s kit make up a massive portion of their public image, not to mention the effect it all has on the legions of fans watching the world‟s most prolific sporting event go down. Seeing as we have a flair for the pretty, we felt it our duty to show off one group's cool designs for the Egyptian team‟s plane and kit.

Let‟s all come to grips with the fact that our current plane designs and kit aren‟t exactly imaginative; they‟re lacking in a number of territories, and don‟t really reflect the kind of ingenuity and creativity that folks can come up with, much like Endorphins Art Labs; whose designs show off some fairly skilled usage of colour, spacing, streamlining and design elements that all seem to mesh together much better than what we have right now. The use of Pharaonic elements and Hieroglyphs on both the plane design as well as the outfits does quite an impressive job at showing off Egyptian heritage, without appearing too gaudy, it works even better for the plane because it‟ll still be used commercially, and a design like this can do wonders for tourism.

It‟s not without its flaws though; representing sponsors without ruining the overall aesthetic of the plane would be quite the task, and the federation logo‟s placement can benefit from some lowkey repositioning, if not removed altogether. Overall, though, we‟d be glad if this was the new standard the team, as unlikely as that may be.

Singapore Airlines unveils new regional 787-10 cabin Singapore Airlines said it would invest $350 million to equip an initial 20 new Boeing 787-10s with new cabins including a fully flat bed in business class and personalized IFE for all passengers.

The airline unveiled the new cabins, which will be used on regional routes of up to eight hours, at a launch event on March. 28 following the arrival of the first 787-10 from Boeing‟s production facility in North Charleston, South Carolina.

The airline has 49 of the aircraft on firm order, making it the biggest customer for the type. Its first scheduled destinations will be Osaka, Japan and Perth Australia from May but it will be used on some flights to Bangkok, Thailand and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for crew training beforehand, the airline said.

As well as directly reclinable 76” fully flat beds, business-class passengers will all have direct aisle access through a forwardfacing 1-2-1 staggered configuration of the Stelia Aerospacemanufactured seats.

They will also have personal 18” full high-definition touchscreen monitors, powered by Panasonic‟s latest eX3 system.

Seats measure up to 26” in width and other features include a business panel with in-seat power supply and USB ports and integrated reading light unit with adjustable lighting intensity.

Recaro is supplying new economy class seating, arranged in a 3-33 configuration with an ergonomically designed contour backrest and six-way adjustable headrest with foldable wings to provide more neck support.

Economy class passengers will have an 11.6” touchscreen monitor as well as a USB port and in-seat power supply. services provided by Panasonic subsidiary Aeromobile.

Open skies will open doors for African tourism Did you know it's more expensive per kilometer to fly within Africa than it is to fly overseas from South Africa?

Statistics show that a flight from Johannesburg in South Africa to Gaborone in Botswana is roughly eight times more expensive per kilometer than a flight from South Africa to New York.

No wonder tour operators in Africa are eager to see open skies become a reality; with open skies comes the promise of lower airfares and ease of access.

Africa has been talking about open skies since 1999, when 44 African nations vowed to fully liberalize air transport in the Yamoussoukro Declaration. The target was set for 2002. Fifteen years later, open skies have yet to become a reality on the continent.

However, in January this year, Africa seemed to finally take a step in the right direction with the launch of the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) initiative by the African Union (A.U.) to open Africa's skies and improve intracontinental air connectivity.

At the launch of the SAATM, David Kajange, the head of the A.U.'s transport and tourism division, told reporters that open skies could mean a 30% drop in airfares. For tour operators, however, the most exciting prospect is that increased air access will enable their clients to explore undiscovered parts of Africa.

"With most of Africa's iconic destinations situated in remote areas, air access is absolutely crucial for tourism on the continent.

Reduced rates and an increase in scheduled flights on competent, trusted air carriers that have strong balance sheets will undoubtedly improve second- or third-tier access to countries such as Zambia, Gabon and Uganda, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Namibia," said AndBeyond CEO, Joss Kent.

2 http://www.travelweekly.com SW Africa managing director Henk Graaff agreed, saying: "Travelers today are looking for new and far-flung destinations. In a world where exclusivity has become the new definition of luxury, open skies will bring untapped opportunities for tour operators and their clients."

Graaff explained that Rwandair has already started offering flights from Kigali to Cape Town with a stopover in Harare, Zimbabwe.

"These kinds of flights make a combination of gorilla safaris and a visit to Cape Town a lot easier," he said.

Holden Safaris' Jim Holden said another good example is Kenya Airways' flight between Nairobi, Kenya, and Cape Town, which stops at the Victoria Falls. "This has enabled many more tourists to visit Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa on the same safari, benefiting all four countries," he said, adding that until Zambia had greater air access, its tourism business struggled to expand despite the country's game parks and exceptional wildlife.

Madagascar is also a country that is likely to benefit greatly from open skies, according to Travel Beyond's Marguerite Smit, who said the destination has piqued the interest of travelers in recent years. "Opening up the airways to foreign operators will have positive effect on the economy of most African countries. There is unlimited growth potential in this sector of the industry," she said.

Natalie Tenzer-Silva, director at Dana Tours, said she expects tourism to Mozambique to flourish as a result of open skies. "The distances in Mozambique are vast and difficult to cover by road, so travelers tend to stick to where the international and regional flights take them," she said. "If we create hubs in the south, center and north, with a network of flights, then they can travel throughout the country and not stick to the traditional tourist spots such as Inhambane, Cabo Delgado and Maputo provinces. Sean Kritzinger, co-owner and director of Giltedge Africa, said the lack of air access is indeed the single most limiting factor to any destination. "Travelers don't have much time, so need to get to their destination as quickly as possible. Many international travelers do multiple destinations in one trip i.e. South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia or East Africa. I see these multicountry trips increasing if air access becomes easier," he said.

Kritzinger warned, however, that the SAATM initiative will only help grow tourism on the continent if the carriers all operate professionally. He said: "If the safety records and professionalism of airlines like SAA and Ethiopian Airlines can be matched by other airlines, this will have a great impact."

So far, 23 African states have signed up to the SAATM, which is a huge and important step towards open skies. However, Raphael Kuuchi, IATA's vice president for Africa, said the benefits of a connected continent will only be realized through effective implementation of the SAATM, not only by the countries already committed but also by the remaining 32 A.U. member nations still to come on board.

Said Kuuchi: "Now it's time to get down to the work of implementation. Greater connectivity will lead to greater prosperity.

Governments must act on their commitments and allow their economies to fly high on the wings of aviation."

Fireblade Aviation Welcomes First International Flights with South Africa Bound Tourists Fireblade Aviation last week processed its first international flights at the Fireblade terminal at O. R. Tambo International Airport. The seven‐star facility successfully handled international tourists arriving in South Africa. This marks the culmination of years of effort following a rigorous approval process and is a significant milestone for Fireblade, the South African aviation sector and South Africa‟s high‐end tourism industry.

Amongst other officials, the Department of Home Affairs (DHA), the South African Revenue Service (SARS) and the South African Police Service (SAPS) were on‐site at the Fireblade terminal to provide the required government clearance for the international flights. The handling of these arrivals at the Fireblade terminal is done through a sterile customs and immigration facility adjacent to the business lounge, designed by and under the strict control of government officials.

Jonathan Oppenheimer, CEO of Fireblade Aviation, commented: "We are excited to service international movements, which will complement our current domestic aircraft movements and enable Fireblade Aviation to fulfil its intended potential. We encourage all privately‐owned and chartered aircraft to use the Fireblade terminal when flying to Johannesburg and South Africa.”

Airports Company of South Africa )ACSA( stated: “There are several benefits to having fully operational international border control capabilities at Fireblade. Our main terminal at O.R. Tambo International will be freed up for additional capacity when commercial business aviation can use the Fireblade terminal.

Runway crossings will be reduced tremendously, which will both improve safety and reduce time for departing and arriving aircraft.

There is also a genuine need for the premium services offered by Fireblade at the largest airport in Africa since the lack of these facilities currently affects our reputation and brand.”

Kenya Airways anxious over opening up of African skies Kenya Airways has raised concerns over plans to liberalize the African skies saying the move will impact heavily on its growth.

The airline says the agreement, signed at the end of January this year, leaves the airline heavily exposed to competition from countries that are yet to open their air space.

During the January 28 agreement in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 23 African heads of state appended their signatures to the Singe African Air Transport Market that seeks to create an open-air policy for the African air space.

By signing the charter, member countries are expected to give their peers unrestricted access to their air space without stringent conditions. Aviation stakeholders are hoping that it will ultimately replicate the European Common Aviation Area.

However, Kenya Airways Managing Director Sebastian Mikosz said the agreement is likely to compound the airline‟s revival strategy.

“Any type of subsidy and any type of external support is very closely monitored, so you don‟t have people fly openly, but then they don‟t have the same business models. Look at our main competitors in Africa and check what type of support they and state protection they have in markets,” Mikosz said.

He said Kenya Airways is studying the impact of the agreement which commits African countries to a single market that forces them to phase out protectionist policies towards African airlines.

“I consider that Kenya is extremely modern in that regard, because we are extremely an open market which gains to many airlines to fly to Nairobi

Mikosz said the airline which has the Kenyan government as the majority shareholder with 49 percent of shares, plans to buy more aircraft to serve its widening network, with other plans to introduce direct flights to Cape Town and Mauritius.

“Direct flights [are] what the passengers are looking at. If you take the map of networks in the world, all the tendencies are to create point-to-point connection, so people don‟t go through the hubs, but rather direct connections,” he noted.

The airline, which has changed its financial year from the end of March to December, posted a net loss of 6.1 billion shillings which it blamed on higher fuel costs and the negative impact of a prolonged electioneering period.

Mikosz said the full financial impact of the new US route will be felt in 2019, adding the aspects of a revenue boost of between 8 to 10 percent. The airline has cut down net losses from 25 billion shillings in 2015 to post an operating profit of 1.3 billion shillings.

Mikosz further said the airline had lowered its after-tax losses from 10 billion shillings in 2016 to 6.1 billion last year.

“Kenya Airways is not just a business, and it should not be seen just as a business. Kenya Airways is part of Kenya‟s economy. Its [a] GDP contributor, it brings jobs to Kenyans, and it brings headquarters to Kenya,” said Michael Joseph, the airline‟s chair.
