المؤامرة على وزٌر الطٌران!! هشام عبد العزٌز العٌار اللى ما ٌصبش ٌدوش ،ذلك المثل ما ٌتعرض له حال ًٌا وزٌر الطٌران شرٌف فتحً؛ سواء من قطاع السٌاحة أو الشركات الخاصة ،بمحاولة توجٌه ضربات متتالٌة للرجل للخضوع لمطالبهم ،والتأثٌر على نجمه الذي لمع منذ تولً الحقٌبة الوزارٌة؛ لدرجة ترشحه لوزارتً السٌاحة والطٌران بدمجهما!
خاض فتحً اختبارات متتالٌة منذ تولى وزارة الطٌران ،من سقوط طابرة مصر للطٌران القادمة من بارٌس ،وتعامله بحرفٌة مع التحقٌقات التً أثمرت فً النهاٌة عن تقرٌر ٌفٌد بالعثور على آثار مادة TNTبٌن رفات الضحاٌا فً أجزاء الحطام، ً مرورا بحادث اختطاف طابرة مصر للطٌران من برج العرب والذي انتهى باستسالم الخاطف ،وتأكٌد سالمة اإلجراءات األمنٌة بالمطار. أزمة تعوٌم الجنٌه وآثارها المدمرة على قطاع الطٌران ،النجاح فً إدارة الملف الروسً ،بتأهٌل المطارات المصرٌة لكل المطالب العالمٌة ،والوصول للنقطة الحٌوٌة ،توقف السٌاحة الروسٌة قرار سٌاسً ولٌس لوجود أي قصور فً مطاراتنا، وذلك لألسف لم نعترف به حتى اآلن ،نخبا رأسنا مثل النعامة ،روسٌا تطالبنا بمطالب تمثل اخترا ًقا للسٌادة المصرٌة ،تحت عباءة اتفاقٌة أمنٌة ثنابٌة ،فى إطار المعاملة بالمثل ،ممثلة فى متابعة رجال أمن من روسٌا لكافة اإلجراءات األمنٌة المتبعة للركاب والبضابع على الطابرات الروسٌة ،ومن المتوقع أن ٌلحقها المطالبة بتواجد رجال أمن لتأمٌن السابحٌن فى شرم والغردقة ٌجب أن نثق جمٌ ًعا ،فى قدرات رجال الشرطة المصرٌة فً تأمٌن المطارات ،وكل ما ٌحدث مجرد هراء ،الدلٌل على ذلك ما أعلنته ربٌسة الفٌدرالٌة الروسٌة ،لم ٌبق سوى أربع نقاط فقط ،لعودة السٌاحة ،وبالطبع لم تعلن تلك التقاط.

وزارة السٌاحة ً بدال من االهتمام بفتح أسواق سٌاحٌة جدٌدة والتروٌج لمقاصد سٌاحٌة مثل األقصر وأسوان ،أطلقت ضرباتها ،فتح األجواء المصرٌة وراء وهم زٌادة السائحٌن إلى مصر ،وبالتالً تضرب عصفورٌن بحجر واحد ،محاولة ضرب وزٌر الطٌران الذي ٌعلم جٌدًا بأن إمكانات المطارات المصرٌة التسمح؛ وذلك ٌمثل دمارا لمصر للطٌران وفً ذات الوقت األجواء المفتوحة مطبقة فً جمٌع المطارات ً المصرٌة باستثناء مطار القاهرة إال بشرط إحضار سائحٌن والعودة بهم ،الضربة الثانٌة تهٌج الشركات المصرٌة الخاصة التً تظن أنها ستحقق استفادة من ذلك، برغم أنها ال تملك جمٌعها سوى 30طائرة أغلبها مؤجر ،وبالتالً إظهار وزٌر الطٌران بأنه ٌعوق السٌاحة أمام الرئٌس! الضربات تتوالى بالصفحات السٌاحٌة مدفوعة األجر ،وستتزاٌد بعد بورصة برلٌن إلخضاع وزٌر الطٌران لالستجابة لمطالب وهم جلب سابحٌن ،لٌرد وزٌر السٌاحة اعتباره أمام الرأي العام والقٌادة السٌاسٌة ،فً ترشٌح فتحً للوزارتٌن م ًعا! وما ال ٌعلمه البعض ،الدولة وراء خسابر مصر للطٌران ،بتكبٌدها بعمالة زابدة تزٌد على ٣٠ألف عامل مع وجود ٨٠طابرة فقط ،والمقٌاس العالمى ١٠٠عامل مع كل طابرة ،اإلجبار على وجود خطوط سٌاحٌة للمدن الداخلٌة وسٌاسٌة ال تحقق أي ربحٌة ،عدم القدرة على خفض رواتب أو منح العاملٌن ربحٌة فً ظل نزٌف للخسابر المالٌة ،السٌاسة النقدٌة الخاطبة بالتعوٌم المفاجا للجنٌة؛ مما زاد من األعباء المالٌة ومضاعفة المدٌونٌة. سٌادة الربٌس قبل اتخاذ أي قرار ،اطلب ملف الحركة السٌاحٌة ،وأعداد السابحٌن دون الالبجٌن والقادمٌن للعالج والدراسة باألزهر ،أعداد السابحٌن القادمٌن عن طرٌق مطار القاهرة ،ملف مطالبات الشركات األوربٌة واألمرٌكٌة من المفوضٌة األوروبٌة والربٌس األمرٌكً ترامب بوضع قٌود أمام سٌاسة السداح مداح فً السماوات المفتوحة ،عدد أعضاء مجلس النواب المشاركٌن فً شركات طٌران أو سٌاحة أو الذٌن رفض لهم مطالب من قبل وزارة الطٌران.

«األهرام» تطرح مشروعا جدٌدا للدراسة.. إقامة مدٌنة متخصصة «لصناعات الطٌران والفضاء»فى مصر أشــرف الحـدٌدى طرحنا فى األسبوع الماضى تصوراً لتطوٌر منظومة الطٌران المصرى بضرورة البحث عن أفكار جدٌدة «خارج الصندوق» لكى تنطلق بقوة للعالمٌة ونلحق بدول وشركات طٌران فى المنطقة سبقناها بسنوات طوٌلة جدا ولكنها سبقتنا اآلن بمراحل !
ومن هنا وانطالقا ً من دور «األهرام» الوطنى فى طرح رؤى وأفكار تسهم فى تحقٌق نقلة نوعٌة لإلقتصاد الوطنى نطرح من خالل «عالم المطارات» فكرة مشروع جدٌد ٌمكن أن ٌكون «مشروعا ً قومٌا ً» لوزارة الطٌران وهو إنشاء «مدٌنة متخصصة لصناعات الطٌران والفضاء فى مصر» ..كمجمع متكامل نقترح أن ٌتم تسمٌتها «مصر لصناعات الطٌران والفضاء». فمصر من أوابل الدول التى انضمت للمنظمة الدولٌة للطٌران المدنى «اإلٌكاو» وبها أقدم شركة بالشرق األوسط تأسست عام ١9٣٢وهى مصر للطٌران وأنشأنا أقدم معهد للتدرٌب على أعمال الطٌران بالمنطقة كما أننا من أوابل الدول التى انضمت عام ١9٤٤لمعاهدة شٌكاغو التى تعد «دستور» النقل الجوى العالمى. ولكن ماذا حدث اآلن ...الواقع ٌشٌر إلى أن دوال فى المنطقة أحدث عهدا منا بالطٌران سبقتنا اآلن سواء بقوة شركات طٌرانها أو مطاراتها أو المعاهد التدرٌبٌة بها لمختلف تخصصات الطٌران ألسباب عدٌدة! ...ووصل األمر إلى ما هو أبعد من ذلك فقد أقامت بعض الدول بالمنطقة العربٌة مدنا لصناعات الطٌران وجذبت شركات صناعة الطابرات العمالقة مثل إٌرباص األوروبٌة وبوٌنج األمرٌكٌة وشركات صناعة الطابرات االقلٌمٌة مثل بومباردٌه الكندٌة وإمبراٌر البرازٌلٌة ،وعدد من الشركات العالمٌة المتخصصة فى تصنٌع أجزاء ومكونات من الطابرات وأنظمة التحكم والتشغٌل بها لتنشىء مصانع تابعة لها داخل هذه الدول ...فها هى المغرب بها اآلن مدٌنة متكاملة لصناعة الطٌران ووصلت إلى المركز الرابع عالمٌا فى تصنٌع أسالك الطابرات وبها مركز اقلٌمى لتصنٌع بعض مكونات وقطع غٌار الطابرات اإلٌرباص وبوٌنج ضمن خطة استثمارٌة تسهم بنحو ٥٫٢ملٌار دوالر فى الناتج المحلى بها بل

وتسعى اآلن إلنتاج طابرات صغٌرة! ...كما أعلنت السعودٌة أنها نجحت فى تعزٌز بنٌة صناعة الطٌران بها بتصنٌع طابرة شحن بالتعاون بٌن مدٌنة الملك عبد العزٌز للعلوم والتقنٌة وشركة انتونوف الروسٌة ،وستحلق فى األجواء العام الحالى! ..أبوظبى أٌضا لدٌها اآلن مركز متخصص لصناعة الطٌران من خالل مجمع نبراس العٌن ...كما تنتج تونس مكونات تستخدم فى تصنٌع الطابرات ...فأٌن نحن من كل ذلك!. لقد تأخرنا كثٌرا بسبب االستغراق فى تنفٌذ مشروعات بأفكار نمطٌة! ولم ٌعد لدٌنا ترف إضاعة الوقت وآن األوان لكى نبدأ اآلن فى دراسة إنشاء ،وتنفٌذ مشروع مثل هذا المجمع العمالق وذلك لجذب االستثمارات العالمٌة فى هذه الصناعة والصناعات المغذٌة لها فى مصر ..وهو مشروع ٌحتاج إلى إرادة وصدور قرارات بتخصٌص أراض إلنشاء هذه المدٌنة ثم ٌأتى دور وزارة الطٌران فى جذب شركات تصنٌع الطابرات ومكوناتها وتوفٌر المناخ المالبم إلقامتها بالتنسٌق مع كل الوزارات المعنٌة من خالل تسهٌالت ضرٌبٌة وحوافز ،كما حدث فى الدول األخرى لخفض تكلفة التصنٌع لجذب المستثمرٌن ،وهناك مناطق عدٌدة تصلح إلقامة هذه المدٌنة المتخصصة مثل منطقة محور قناة السوٌس أو بالقرب من العاصمة اإلدارٌة الجدٌدة ومطار القاهرة باالتفاق مع الشركات العالمٌة مثل إٌرباص وبوٌنج ،وغٌرها إلنشاء مصانع تابعة لها فى مصر لتصنٌع أجزاء من مكونات طابراتها ،وبعض أنظمة التشغٌل بها. وأتصور أن تنفٌذ مثل هذا المشروع القومى ٌواكب االنطالقة الحقٌقٌة التى تهدف إلٌها القٌادة المصرٌة للنهوض باالقتصاد الوطنى وفتح مصانع جدٌدة باستثمارات مصرٌة وأجنبٌة وتوفٌر آالف من فرص العمل ...ولم ال فمصر بموقعها الجغرافى المتمٌز ومكانتها الدولٌة فى مجال الطٌران ،ومع وجود مناخ استثمارى جاذب مع صدور قانون االستثمار الجدٌد ووجود خبرات وعمالة مصرٌة ماهرة فى مختلف تخصصات الطٌران ...كل هذه العوامل وغٌرها تشكل عناصر جذب للشركات العالمٌة إلنشاء هذه المدٌنة العمالقة فى مصر وتحقٌق نقلة نوعٌة باقامة قاعدة صناعٌة متخصصة لتصنٌع مكونات الطابرات التجارٌة فى مصر ،وتصنٌع طابرات صغٌرة الحجم فى المستقبل لنصبح من الدول المهمة فى هذا المجال فلسنا أقل ممن سبقونا!. وهنا البد أن نشٌر إلى أن إقامة هذه المدٌنة المتخصصة لصناعة الطٌران ال ٌتعارض مع مشروع اٌربورت سٌتى الذى تتحدث عنه وزارة الطٌران منذ سنوات ،ولم ٌر النور حتى اآلن ،بل إن العكس هو الصحٌح ألن اٌربورت سٌتى سٌضم مشروعات تجارٌة ولوجستٌة وسٌاحٌة ورٌاضٌة وترفٌهٌة حول مطار القاهرة ،بٌنما مدٌنة صناعات الطٌران ستمثل إضافة كبٌرة لهذا المشروع. ...و األهرام إذ تطرح فكرة هذا المشروع االستراتٌجى للنقاش والدراسة ،وترحب بكل اآلراء والمقترحات عبر صفحة عالم المطارات تمهٌدا لعقد ندوة لمناقشتها بما ٌسهم فى تطوٌرها وتنفٌذها سرٌعا إٌمانا منا بأن مصرنا الغالٌة ٌجب أن تستعٌد مكانتها الرابدة فى المنطقة بجهود كل المخلصٌن فى كل المجاالت.

مصر للطٌران تنظم جولة تعرٌفٌة لطالب هنود لعمل رحلة سٌاحٌة للقاهرة كتب محمود عبد الغنى نظم مكتب مصر للطٌران بالهند برئاسة وائل فؤاد أول جولة تعرٌفٌة لفوج من طالب المدارس بالهند لعمل رحلة سٌاحٌة للقاهرة وأسوان. وأكدت مصادر بالشركة أن تنظٌم الرحلة جاء بالتعاون مع إحدى شركات السٌاحة الهندٌة المتخصصة فً رحالت المدارس ،حٌث من المقرر ان ٌصل الطالب علً رحلة مصرللطٌران رقم 9٦9القادمة من مومباي إلى القاهرة غدا األربعاء وتستمر الزٌارة حتى ال ٢٢مارس .

إلغاء 5رحالت طٌران بمطار القاهرة لعدم جدوها اقتصادٌا كتب محمود عبد الغنى تلقت سلطات مطار القاهرة ،الٌوم االربعاء 5 ،إخطارات من شركة النٌل للطٌران بإلغاء إقالع 5رحالت طٌران دولٌة لعدم جدوها إقتصادٌا لقلة الركاب. وأفادت مصادر مالحٌة ،أن شركة النٌل للطٌران أرسلت ٥إخطارات بإلغاء رحلتها ١١١المتجهة إلى الطابف ،و ١١٥المتجهة إلى القصٌم، و ١9١المتجهة إلى مطار الصبٌحة بتركٌا ،و١١٣و ١٠٣المتجهة إلى ٌنبع لعدم جدوها اقتصادٌا لقلة الركاب. وأشارات المصادر إلى أنه تم التنسٌق بٌن سلطات المطار وشركات الطٌران لسفر الركاب على متن رحالت طٌران دولٌة أخرى.

تأخر إقالع الطائرة الٌمنٌة من القاهرة 6ساعات بسبب االشتباكات مع الحوثٌٌن كتب محمود عبد الغنى أعلنت مصادر مالحٌة بمطار القاهرة الدولى ،الٌوم االربعاء ،أن طائرة الخطوط الٌمنٌة المتجهة إلى سٌئون تأخرت 6ساعات عن موعد اإلقالع المقرر لها بجدول التشغٌل ،بسبب االشتباكات مع الحوثٌٌن. وأضافت المصادر ،لـ"الٌوم السابع" ،أن رحلة الخطوط الٌمنٌة ٦٠7 المتجهة إلى سٌبون بالٌمن تأخرت ٦ساعات بالمطار ،لحٌن صدور تصرٌح قوات التحالف العربى للعبور فى أجواء آمنة من االشتباكات مع الحوثٌٌن. وأشارت المصادر ،إلى أن رحلة الخطوط الٌمنٌة تتأخر بشكل ٌومى لحٌن ً حفاظا على سالمة صدور تصرٌح من قوات التحالف لتأمٌن عبور الطابرة الركاب.

رئٌس ألٌطالٌا مستعد للتنحى عن منصبه بشركة الطٌران اإلٌطالٌة قال مصدر مطلع الٌوم الثالثاء أن لوكا دى مونتٌزٌمولو رئٌس مجلس إدارة ألٌطالٌا مستعد لترك منصبه فى شركة الطٌران اإلٌطالٌة التى تتكبد خسائر بعد أن ٌوافق مجلس اإلدارة على خطة جدٌدة. وأضاف المصدر أن مجلس إدارة ألٌطالٌا سٌجتمع غدا األربعاء لمناقشة الخطة. تضغط االتحاد للطٌران التى تملك حصة مسٌطرة قدرها % ٤9فى ألٌطالٌا إلجراء خفض كبٌر فى الوظابف بالناقلة اإلٌطالٌة. وٌلقى باللوم فى الخسابر المالٌة أللٌطالٌا وفشلها فى مواجهة منافسة شركات الطٌران منخفض التكلفة بشكل كبٌر على سنوات من سوء اإلدارة.

http://www.youm7.com رئٌس "تنشٌط السٌاحة" ٌواصل لقاءاته المكثفة مع منظمى الرحالت الروسٌة كتبت مٌرفت رشاد أكد هشام الدمٌرى ،رئٌس هٌئة تنشٌط السٌاحة ،على استعداد المقصد السٌاحى المصرى الستقبال السائحٌن الروس بمجرد رفع حظر الطٌران من السوق. وشدد الدمٌرى خالل اللقاءات مع منظمى الرحالت (PegasTouristikTeztour- ) ،Onlinetours – Bibloglobusعلى أهمٌة استعداد منظمى الرحالت فى التروٌج للمقصد السٌاحى المصرى بمجرد رفع الحظر ،حٌث استمع إلى مقترحاتهم وخططهم التسوٌقٌة المستقبلٌة بعد رفع الحظر. وقال ربٌس هٌبة تنشٌط السٌاحة ،إن وزارة السٌاحة سوف تقوم بدعم منظمى الرحالت للعودة سرٌ ًعا من أجل استعادة الحركة السٌاحة الوافدة من السوق الروسى -جاء ذلك خالل مشاركة الهٌبة فى المعرض السٌاحى الدولى MITTبمدٌنة موسكو الروسٌة. وبالحدٌث عن زٌادة رسوم التأشٌرة إلى مصر أكد الدمٌرى ،على أنه لن ٌتم اتخاذ أى قرار من شأنه التأثٌر بالسلب على السٌاحة فى مصر ،الف ًتا إلى أنه تحت المراجعة وفى انتظار ما سٌستقر علٌه من قرارات خالل الفترة الوجٌزة القادمة ،كما تطرق ربٌس الهٌبة مع منظمى الرحالت إلى أهمٌة تعظٌم االستفادة من األحداث التى تلقى رواج وصدى جٌد وتوجٌه الدعوات للمشاهٌر الروس وكذلك اإلعالمٌٌن لزٌارة مختلف المقاصد المصرٌة بعد رفع الحظر. وفى سٌاق متصل شدد ربٌس هٌبة تنشٌط السٌاحة ،على أهمٌة قٌام منظمى الرحالت على إبراز تنوع المنتج السٌاحى من خالل خلق طلب على بعض المنتجات السٌاحٌة "سٌاحة الثقافٌة – السٌاحة الدٌنٌة " مسار العابلة المقدسة – السٌاحة العالجٌة"،واالستفادة من تجربة مصر الفرٌدة فى عالج فٌرس c. و أعرب الدمٌرى ،فى نهاٌة لقاءاته فى أولى أٌام المعرض ،عن أمله وتفاؤله فى استبناف الحركة السٌاحة من السوق الروسى فى اقرب وقت ممكن.

طالبت وزارة السٌاحة ،من الشركات المنظمة لرحالت العمرة هذا العام 1438هـ ،بعدم القٌام بأى حجوزات على شركات الطٌران الخاص إال بعد موافقة الوزارة واعتمادها لهذه الشركات كناقل جوى لرحالت العمرة هذا الموسم. وأشارت الوزارة فى الخطاب المرسل لغرفة شركات السٌاحة ،إلى عدم قٌام شركات الطٌران الخاص بتقدٌم موافقة سلطة الطٌران المدنى المصرى، وموافقة الهٌبة العامة للطٌران المدنى السعودى ،عالوة على عدم تقدٌم جدول الرحالت المنتظمة ،لوزارة السٌاحة حتى اآلن. ومن جانبها ،قامت غرفة شركات السٌاحة ،بإخطار أعضاء الجمعٌة العمومٌة للغرفة بتعلٌمات الصادرة من وزارة السٌاحة.

http://www.youm7.com عاصفة ثلجٌة تضرب الوالٌات المتحدة وإلغاء عشرات الرحالت الجوٌة تراكمت الثلوج بسرعة فى مناطق بشمال شرق الوالٌات المتحدة الٌوم الثالثاء مع بدء هبوب عاصفة ثلجٌة فٌما نصحت السلطات السكان بالبقاء فى المنازل وألغت شركات طٌران رحالت وأغلقت المدارس أبوابها. وحذرت هٌئة األرصاد الجوٌة الوطنٌة األمرٌكٌة نحو 50ملٌون شخص من بنسلفانٌا حتى مٌن من "رٌاح تزداد كثافة بسرعة من ناحٌة الشمال الشرقً" على نحو غٌر مألوف فى مثل هذا الوقت المتأخر من الشتاء. وقالت الهٌبة إن من المتوقع أن ٌجد البعض أنفسهم محاطٌن بثلوج ٌصل سمكها إلى نحو ٦٠سنتٌمترا بحلول صباح غد األربعاء. ومن المتوقع أن تفلت مدٌنة نٌوٌورك من األسوأ فى تلك العاصفة بعدما سحبت هٌبة األرصاد الجوٌة تحذٌرها للمدٌنة صباح الٌوم الثالثاء وأصدرت بدال منه "نشرة أرصاد جوٌة شتوٌة" فقط ،وخفضت الهٌبة بشدة توقعاتها لسمك طبقة الثلوج فى المدٌنة إلى ما بٌن ١٠و ٢٠سنتٌمترا ،غٌر أن الحٌاة تأثرت بالفعل فى المدٌنة حٌث ٌخطط العدٌد من السكان للبقاء فى المنزل بعد شراء احتٌاجاتهم من المتاجر التى شهدت زحاما فى اللٌلة الماضٌة. وذكر أحد المواقع االلكترونٌة المعنٌة بالرحالت الجوٌة أن شركات الطٌران ألغت نحو ٥٥٠٠رحلة فى أنحاء الوالٌات المتحدة .وكانت أكثر الرحالت الملغاة فى مطارات نٌوٌورك فى نٌوجٌرزى والجاردٌنا فى نٌوٌورك ومطار بوسطن لوجان الدولى. وألغت المدارس الحكومٌة فى مدٌنة نٌوٌورك الدراسة الٌوم الثالثاء .كما ألغت مدارس فى العاصمة واشنطن وبوسطن وفٌالدلفٌا وشمال نٌوجٌرزى الدراسة الٌوم.

IATA Urges Air Cargo Modernization Abu Dhabi - The International Air Transport Association (IATA) called on the air cargo industry to accelerate modernization and focus on delivering high quality service. The call was made at the 11th World Cargo Symposium, which opened in Abu Dhabi today against a backdrop of cautious optimism for the global air cargo sector. After several years of virtually no growth, air cargo demand began to rise in the second half of 2016. January cargo performance showed a 7% growth in demand compared to the previous year. ―Listening to the customer has never been more important. The positive forces currently supporting growth are good news. But our customers are telling us that they expect more. Complicated and convoluted paper-based processes that are basically unchanged from the 16th century are still being used in air cargo today. Our customers pay a premium to ship by air and they rightly expect modern processes and high quality services,‖ said Alexandre de Juniac, IATA’s Director General and CEO. De Juniac focused on two key areas for industry transformation: Simple modern electronic processes: The industry has been pursuing a digital process transformation known as efreight for over a decade. A key element of e-freight is the market adoption of the e-air waybill. Global penetration has nearly reached 50% and the industry is targeting 62% by year-end on enabled trade lanes.

De Juniac noted the need to address safety concerns with the shipment of lithium batteries as an example of where partnerships are critical. Industry and government have worked together to put in place regulations based on global standards so that lithium batteries can be shipped safely. ―The problem is that the regulations are not being enforced. We still see too many examples of abuse including mislabeling of batteries. We ask governments to step up enforcement and take a tougher stance against rogue shippers. They have the power to impose significant fines and custodial sentences on those violating the regulations. We ask that they put these in place to stop the violations,‖ said de Juniac. De Juniac further identified three key areas where the industry needs the support of governments to implement global standards: The adoption of the Montreal Convention 1999 (MC99) governing the regulation of acceptance of digital documentation by governments is a critical perquisite for the e-AWB. To date, 124 countries have implemented MC99. But some key countries where air cargo has an important role still need to come on board. These include Thailand and Vietnam. The adoption of revisions to the Kyoto Convention of the World Customs Organization, which facilitates smart border solutions that reduce complexity and cost. Barbara Potter and Katherine Wears were holding out hope they could make their connecting flight to Paris and then Spain. They are headed from St. Lawrence County to Europe for a 47 day hiking trip. Everything they will need is in their backpacks so they are ready for any delay that comes along. "We have to get to Madrid by May 1st," said Wears with a laugh. Crews worked all day to keep the runways clear so the airport could stay open but airport commissioner Christina Callahan says many airlines preemptively cancelled flights - hoping to avoid gridlock and long lines. "We have all learned the lessons the hard way when we have thousands of passengers stranded at airports across the country so they have become very proactive over the last few years," said Callahan. The flight board was a sea of cancellations but flights to Atlanta were few bright spots. Some of the Atlanta flights were delayed but Vincent and Patricia Santino were a few of the lucky travelers walking through an unnaturally quiet airport before getting on a flight to Atlanta. The Santinos were grateful they would be able to sleep in their Florida home tonight. "If I am the last bastion of what optimism looks like, I will proudly wear that badge," said Vincent Santino. Flight cancellations top 5K as snowstorm hits At Newark Liberty International Airport, flights were cancelled before it began snowing as airlines prepared for the worst. NEWARK -- Even before a massive storm began pounding the East Coast, nearly 5,400 U.S. flights scheduled for Tuesday were cancelled -- including nearly all of the planes at Newark Liberty International Airport. Newark Airport leads the nation with more than 1,000 cancelled outgoing and incoming flights as of 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to FlightAware, a flight tracking website. Though some flights were able to depart before the storm began closing in on New Jersey, Tuesday's cancellations accounted for more than 87 percent of the day's flights scheduled to leave from Newark. Many airlines are waiving fees to allow travelers to change flights for later in the week. United Airlines, Newark's largest carrier, said anyone scheduled to fly Tuesday or Wednesday can reschedule for flights through Friday for free. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the agency that oversees the area airports, warned travelers to stay away from the airports unless they were sure their flight was still scheduled to take off. Why Newark Airport tops nation in delays In the New York region's crowded airspace, Newark Liberty International Airport ranks last in the country in getting its flights off on time, and is not much better in its arrival numbers, according to a report on the nation's busiest airports. Tickets for first non-stop flight from Australia to UK to go on sale Direct Australia to London flights take off Nicole Precel, ABC News Qantas is introducing direct flights from Perth to London in 2018, marking the first time Australians will be able to fly direct to Europe. Vision courtesy ABC News. Travellers will soon be able to book tickets for the first direct flight between the UK and Australia, set to become one of the world's longest routes. Qantas has confirmed that tickets for the some 14,484km flight between Perth and London will go on sale in April, but has not given exact dates or pricing details. The flights are expected to take off in April 2018, giving Kiwis another stopover option. Australia's national carrier will service the new route, expected to take around 17 hours, with its new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. "This is a game-changing route flown by a game-changing aircraft," said Alan Joyce, Qantas Group CEO, when he broke the news in December. Supplied Qantas will service the non-stop Perth to London flights with new Boeing Dreamliner 787-9s. Qatar Airways set a new record for the world's longest commercial flight in February with the launch of its Doha to Auckland service, which takes about 17 hours and 30 minutes (wind dependent) and covers 14,535km. The return flight to Doha takes about 18 hours. It remains to be seen how the non-stop Perth to London route will affect existing non-direct flights to Europe from Australia and New Zealand, with pricing likely to be a major factor.

Boeing Quiet on Chinese Joint Venture for 737 Completions by Gregory Polek Boeing has declined to confirm a report from official Chinese news agency Xinhua that its previously announced joint venture with state-owned Comac will start building a 737 completions center in Zhoushan by the end of this month. According to Xinhua, the joint venture will install the first set of seats and cabin entertainment systems and Boeing will deliver the first 737 from its own facility located at the same site next year. ―We continue to discuss plans for the facility with our JV partner and government officials and will announce more information, at a later date,‖ said Boeing in a written statement. The initial agreement to collaborate on 737 completions came along with an order for 300 Boeing jets involving China Aviation Supplies Holding Company, ICBC Financial Leasing and China Development Bank Leasing. The so-called general terms agreement covered 190 B737s and 50 widebodies for Chinese airlines and another 60 B737s for ICBC and CDB Leasing. Boeing this week revealed CDB Aviation Lease Finance as the previously unidentified customer for thirty 737 Max 8s, a deal that the airframer described as ―an opportunity to broaden communication and strengthen cooperation in various fields, bringing the partnership to a new level.‖ Based in Dublin, CDB Aviation operates as a wholly owned Irish subsidiary of China Development Bank Financial Leasing Company.

As expected, the revelation of Boeing’s plans for the completion and delivery centers in September 2015 drew protest from the International Association of Machinists, the union representing Boeing mechanics in the Puget Sound region of Washington state, including the 737 plant in Renton. ―Our union must reiterate that any movement of aerospace work from our members and other aerospace workers in Washington state gives rise for great concern,‖ IAM District 751 said in a statement. ―We understand the importance of selling airplanes to customers around the world; however, the work we perform here seems to be what is offered as a bargaining chip to fill aerospace manufacturing across the country and the world. http://www.ainonline.com/ Boeing’s Myers Upbeat about Influx of Aircraft Investors by Gregory Polek Commercial aircraft continue to outperform virtually every other asset class in which financiers can invest, resulting in perhaps unprecedented levels of competition and some of the ―cheapest‖ access to money that airlines have ever enjoyed. As a result, manufacturers such as Boeing continue to express a bullish outlook even while interest rates begin to show some signs of increasing. ―Liquidity is some of the highest I’ve ever seen,‖ Boeing Capital Corporation president Tim Myers told AIN during the recent International Society of Transport Aircraft Traders (ISTAT) conference in San Diego. ―We’re seeing a lot of new investors coming into the space. Because when you look at aircraft finance as an investment alternative, it has really proven itself since ’08’09, when the financial crisis hit. If you look at other fixed assent type of investments and aircraft have continued to outperform almost everything else. The airline industry is profitable again, so that’s driving people into the space, but we’re seeing continuing new investment coming in from places like Korea, places like Australia…the Japanese regional banks are back in the business…Taiwan.‖ The influx of money has come from virtually every kind of source. Myers characterized the number of leasing companies that have entered the market as ―phenomenal,‖ resulting in an environment where, for Boeing, 40 percent of its airplane placement funding comes from lessors. According to Airbus COO for customers John Leahy, lessors account for some 50 percent of all the funding for the European company’s airplanes.

For Boeing, bank debt accounts for some 34 percent of its placements—from sources around the globe—while direct cash purchases amount to about 26 percent of its sales. ―The one thing that we’ve seen with commercial aircraft bank debt is it’s coming from everywhere, whether its the European banks that were strong; the U.S.banks are playing; Australia is kicking in; the Middle East banks are participating; you’ve got banks certainly in Asia,‖ said Myers. ―But it’s competitive. You’ll probably hear some rumblings about how competitive it is. Some people are coming off new aircraft and going down into the second tier airlines and looking at used aircraft just to chase yields.‖ Meanwhile, capital market funding from instruments such as Enhanced Equipment Trust Certificates (EETCs) account for another 31 percent of the marketplace, and export credit agencies typically back another 9 percent. Happily for Boeing, the strength of capital markets and bank funding has softened the blow of the government’s failure to renew the charter of the U.S. ExIm bank. While Airbus continues to suffer an interruption of export credit agency funding while it works to address ―irregularities‖ involving third-party consultants, Myers said he remains concerned about the potential lack of equilibrium once ECA funding to Airbus resumes. ―We’re certainly working with the government to make sure that Boeing gets a level playing field,‖ he stressed. ―To us that means ExIm Bank is back up and running.‖ Export financing accounts for much of the success of the aerospace industry in general, particularly during lean times, he added. During the financial crisis of 2008-2009, export financing accounting for 30 percent of Boeing’s deliveries. In fact, Airbus never once dropped production rates—they increased during that time—even while the financial markets had become nearly frozen.

Without ECA financing, the company would undoubtedly have faced the expensive proposition of dropping rates substantially. Meanwhile, Boeing, through its participation in the Aviation Working Group, spends a lot of time and effort fostering an environment that encourages financiers to take the risks associated with backing commercial aircraft sales. Myers cited the Cape Town Convention as one of the important elements of ensuring such a healthy environment. In the event of bankruptcy, airlines registered in a country that has ratified the convention must ensure their airplanes either go back to their owners or they must renegotiate their contracts with lessors or banks within, typically, 60 to 90 days. ―We’ve found that by having Cape Town ratified in different countries and then adopted by the [Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development )OECD(]…creates more access to the financial markets for the airlines that reside in those countries,‖ said Myers. ―Boeing has been pushing that kind of initiative with the Aviation Working Group [co-chaired by Boeing and Airbus comprised of airframe and engine OEMs, banks and leasing companies].‖ Sixty-five countries have so far ratified the Cape Town Convention, but Myers would like to see more. ―We’re looking to see more of the Europeans really move. The UK ratified Cape Town and we were hoping to see that kind of be where Europe would really start taking off…Now most European countries have fairly sophisticated bankruptcy laws already, but still I think Cape Town would make it easier for those countries to do the kind of financing…especially if they were trying to do international EETCs and things like that.‖

Myers also stressed the importance of the ability to freely and quickly transfer airplanes across borders in the event of lease expirations, for example. ―So we’re trying to work with [ICAO] and the various civil aviation authorities around the globe to try to create some kind of a standardized cross-border transfer for airplanes,‖ he noted. ―This is a very sensitive topic because it involves safety standards, other issues with different countries, but the entire industry will benefit from having these standards in place and the ability to move aircraft freely because it adds to the mobility of the asset.‖ Of course, ease of mobility lessens risk for investors and, therefore, the longevity of the asset and its residual value. Under the status quo, however, it takes too much time and expense to transfer airplanes in Myers’s estimation. ―There are ways we think that we can work together with the right aviation authorities to bring them together…because it will basically lower the cost of financing for everybody, if we can make that happen.‖

Berlin’s Tegel and Schönefeld airports have canceled hundreds of scheduled flights from March 13-15 because of an ongoing ground staff strike over wages. On Monday, both airports canceled 670 flights, including 215 flights from airberlin and 180 flights from Lufthansa. On Tuesday, Tegel canceled 453 flights and Schönefeld canceled 125 flights, about 90% of all scheduled flights. German trade union Verdi, which represents around 2,000 ground staff, wants a €1 ($1.07) increase in hourly wages. Several airlines transferred their Tuesday flights to other German airports. The strike is a continuation of last Friday’s strike when both airports canceled a total of 650 flights.

The right aircraft and routes, and a government that lets the experts get on with it. — Richard Holmes. Ethiopian Airlines has come a long way since April 1946, when its first scheduled services flew second-hand Douglas C-47 Skytrains to the likes of Aden, Djibouti and Jimma. Fast-forward 70 years and the carrier has grown into the leading airline in Africa, its fleet of 85 aircraft – average age: five years – serving 90 destinations on five continents from its hub in Addis Abba. ―Although 2016 has been [a] very challenging year for the industry, all in all it was a very good year for Ethiopian Airlines,‖ says Tewolde GebreMariam, group CEO and a 30-year veteran of the company. And GebreMariam is being modest. In the most recent 2015-16 financial year Ethiopian reported a 10.3 percent rise in revenue to $2.43 billion, an 18 percent hike in passenger numbers (now 7.6-million) and a 70 percent spike in net profit to $265million. .‖

On a continent littered with balance sheets deep in the red, what is Ethiopian doing right? ―Above all, we superbly understand the African aviation market,‖ adds GebreMariam. ―We know our African customers [better] than any airline.‖ While Lagos and Nairobi are key routes, South Africa is its dominant long-haul destination in Africa, with 25 flights per week serving Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban. ―South Africa is a mature market, and a diversified one,‖ explains Abel Alemu, regional manager, Southern Africa. ―We see both business and leisure travel to America, Europe and Asia and there is also growing pan-African traffic.‖ ―Addis Ababa is not a city known as an international destination, yet the airline has been very successful growing its international footprint,‖ says Addison Schonland, partner at aviation consultancy AirInsight. ―What we see here is an airline that has bought the right equipment, giving them a long range to reach out to all kinds of markets. Look at the interest in Africa from Asian countries, particularly China. Ethiopian has identified and is reaching those markets. And they have capacity in both passenger seats and cargo.‖ ETHIOPIAN AIRLINES HAS THE REACH Some 70 percent of Ethiopian’s traffic comprises transit passengers connecting to its broader network, and ―as a PanAfrican carrier, we have always been committed to connect Africa together, and to the rest of the world,‖ adds GebreMariam. ―With our geographical location at our advantage, and our Africanflavored Ethiopian hospitality, we believe we have an added level of competitiveness
