2 وخالل الجولة ،استمع وزٌر الطٌران إلى شرح تفصٌلً عن الخدمات التى تقدمها الشركة إلى عدد كبٌر من شركات الطٌران العاملة فى مطار القاهرة الدولى وجمٌع المطارات المصرٌة منذ لحظة وصول الطائرة وحتى إقالعها ،وتابع المهندس فتح هللا الحدٌث عن خطط واستراتٌجٌات الشركة من تحدٌث وتصنٌع جمٌع معداتالتحمٌل بالمصنع المعدنً والتى سٌتم عرضها فى المؤتمر األفرٌقً برواندا خالل شهر سبتمبر القادم ،ووجه وزٌر الطٌران بضرورة االستمرار فى المحافظة على مستوى الخدمات األرضٌة المقدمة لكافة شركات الطٌران طبقا للمعاٌٌر الدولٌة وااللتزام بمقاٌٌس األمان والسالمة والجودة.

3 كما تفقد وزٌر الطٌران ،شركة مصر للطٌران للخدمات الجوٌة وكان فى إستقباله المهندس هشام عبد الحفٌظ رئٌس مجلس إدارة الشركة ،وبدأت الجولة بزٌارة قاعة كمال علوى وقاعة الزعماء وقاعة اإلجتماعات باإلضافة إلى معمل تحلٌل وسالمة األغذٌة ومخازن البضائع ومنطقة إنتاج وتجمٌع الوجبات ومنطقة المراجعات النهائٌة للترولٌات ،واطلع على كٌفٌة تأمٌن الوجبات والترولٌات فى العربات المخصصة قبل صعودها على الطائرات ،وقدم المهندس عبد الحفٌظ شرحا عملٌا عن الخدمات التى تقدمها الشركة من مأكوالت ومشروبات (الكاترٌنج) التى ُتقدم على متن الطائرات باالضافة الى نشاط الكافترٌات والفنادق بالمطارات المصرٌة. وأكد الفرٌق ٌونس المصرى ،على أهمٌة تطوٌر منظومة المشترٌات والتموٌن واالستمرار فى المحافظة على كفاءة الوجبات الغذائٌة المقدمة للراكب للحفاظ على ثقة عمالئنا من خالل تقدٌم الخدمة بجودة عالمٌة.

عامان على سقوط طائرة مصر للطٌران القادمة من بارٌس- "تاٌم الٌن” كتب -محمود مصطفى: قالت النٌابة العامة ،إنها مازالت تباشر تحقٌقاتها بشأن حادث سقوط طائرة مصر للطٌران القادمة من مطار شارل دٌجول ببارٌس ،والذي وقع فً ماٌو ،2016مشٌرة إلى أنه ال صحة لما تتداوله بعض المواقع اإلخبارٌة حول الوصول إلى سبب سقوط الطائرة، وإرجاعه إلى حرٌق فى قمرة قٌادتها. وذكرت النٌابة العامة ،فً بٌان ،الٌوم االثنٌن ،أن ما أثٌر من تصرٌحات فً المواقع اإلخبارٌة ،مفادها تحدٌد سبب سقوط الطائرة بحدوث حرٌق فً قمرة قٌادتها ،قول ال ٌستند إلى ثمة أساس؛ السٌما وأن التحقٌقات مازالت جارٌة. وأضاف البٌان ،أن الثابت من تقرٌر مصلحة الطب الشرعً ،أنه جرى العثور على بقاٌا مواد متفجرة بأشالء الضحاٌا وبعض المواد المعدنٌة والبالستٌكٌة والصلبة من حطام الطائرة والملتصقة بتلك األشالء المعثور علٌها بموقع الحادث. وٌسترجع مصراوي واقعة سقوط الطائرة: 19ماٌو :2016 أعلنت شركة مصر للطٌران اختفاء طائرتها القادمة من بارٌس من على شاشات الرادار، عقب دخولها المجال الجوي المصري فوق مٌاه البحر المتوسط ،وعلى متنها 66شخصا من 12جنسٌة بٌنهم طفل ورضٌعان وسبعة من أفراد الطاقم وثالثة من أفراد األمن ،ولقوا جمٌعا ً مصرعهم. 19ماٌو: شكلت وزارة الطٌران المدنً غرفة عملٌات لمتابعة الحادث بالتعاون مع الجانب الٌونانً لمعرفة أسباب ومكان سقوط الطائرة. 19ماٌو:

مصر ترفض نتائج التحقٌق الفرنسً بشأن الطائرة المنكوبة
نفت مصر صحة تقرٌر أعده محققو طٌران فرنسٌون وٌفٌد بأن حرٌق قمرة القٌادة ربما تسبب فً تحطم طائرة تابعة لشركة مصر للطٌران كانت متجهة من بارٌس إلى القاهرة عام .2016 وقال النائب العام الماضً فً بٌان االثنٌن إن التحقٌق المصري فً حادث الرحلة 804 التابعة لشركة مصر للطٌران ال ٌزال جارٌا. وأضاف البٌان أن التقرٌر الفرنسً "ال أساس له" من الصحة ،مضٌفا أنه "تم العثور على آثار متفجرات على رفات الركاب وأجزاء من الطائرة". وكانت وكالة التحقٌقات الفرنسٌة "بً إي أٌه" قد قالت الجمعة إن "الفرضٌة األكثر احتماال" هً أن حرٌقا اندلع فً قمرة القٌادة و "انتشر بسرعة ،ما أدى إلى فقدان السٌطرة". وقتل جمٌع الركاب البالغ عددهم 66شخصا عندما تحطمت الطائرة فً البحر األبٌض المتوسط فً ماٌو .2016

خطاٌا مطار القاهرة ..إلى متى؟ صالح الغزالً حرب عندما نلقى الضوء على بعض أخطاء مؤسسة وطنٌة فى حجم مطار القاهرة ،ثم ال نجد استجابة من أى نوعٌ ،صبح األمر خطٌئة تستدعى التوجه لمن ٌهمه أمر هذا البلد ،للتدخل، حفاظا على صورة مصر أمام العالم. أوال -استقبال القادمٌن: أر فى العالم المتحضر هذا المنظر الكرٌه؛ حٌث ٌنادى بعض موظفى المطار بأعلى صوت لم َ على بعض أسماء القادمٌن قبٌل الوصول إلى منطقة الجوازات ،لٌخرجوا بهم أمام باقى القادمٌن من كل الجنسٌات ،دون االنتظام فى الطوابٌر ،فى إعالن صرٌح وغبى بوجود الفساد والتسٌب.. فمن المسؤول ،ولمصلحة من؟! ثانٌا -طوابٌر الجوازات: فى الوقت الذى تنادى فٌه الدولة بأهمٌة السٌاحة القصوى لمصر نجد عددا قلٌال من ضباط الجوازات ال ٌتناسب مع عدد القادمٌن مع فوضى هائلة وإضاءة كئٌبة توحى بإهمال متعمد ٌحتاج تدخال سرٌعا ،وال أدرى لماذا ال نستخدم نظام الجواجز المتتالٌة التى تجعل الجمٌع ٌنتظم فى طابور واحد ٌفضى فى النهاٌة إلى ضباط الجوازات ،وكم تكون تكلفة أعداد أماكن أكثر احتراما لعدد كا ٍ ف منهم أمام سمعة مصر؟! ثالثا -مواقف السٌارات: مواقف السٌارات فضٌحة بكل المقاٌٌس ،تكفى وحدها لٌقرر القادم العودة إلى بالده! فهناك مافٌا التاكسٌات التى تنادى علٌك قبٌل خروجك من المطار ،ثم تخرج إلى أسوأ ما ٌمكن أن تراه عٌنك من فوضى عارمة من السٌارات ،وأدعو هنا الجتماع عاجل لممثلى المرور والمطار والمحافظة والسٌاحة مع مهندسٌن متخصصٌن فى الطرق لوضع خطة عاجلة إلنهاء هذه المهزلة.

2 رابعا -الترحٌب بالمدخنٌن: أر فى حٌاتى مطارا محترما ٌخصص استراحة كاملة بكل إمكاناتها فقط للمدخنٌن! ٌنعمون لم َ فٌها باستنشاق الهواء الفاسد ،وٌوزعونه عنوة على موظفى المطار العاملٌن فى هذه االستراحة من غٌر المدخنٌن. وقد شكا لى أحدهم من أنه اشتكى لرئٌس سابق للشركة ،فأمر بنقله عقابا له ،حٌث كان هذا المسؤول من المدخنٌن. إننى أطالب بإغالق هذه االستراحة فورا ،واستبدال غرفة زجاجٌة بال منافد مكانها للمدمنٌن الذٌن ال ٌتحملون اإلقالع عن هذه العادة القاتلة بعض الوقت كما هو الحال فى كل مطارات العالم من حولنا. وأخٌرا ،فإننى أؤكد إصرارى على استخدام مصر للطٌران فى كل سفرٌاتى فقط ،ألنها رمز مصر أمام العالم الخارجى ،ولكنى لن أتوقف عن المطالبة باختٌار القٌادات األمٌنة القوٌة التى تمتلك القدرة على اإلبداع لقٌادة هذا المرفق شدٌد األهمٌة

اتحاد المصرٌٌن فً قطر ٌكشف تفاصٌل عودة المواطنٌن للقاهرة على الخطوط الجوٌة لشركات الطٌران فً الكوٌت واألردن ولبنان ،تتوالى عودة العمالة المصرٌة من قطر ،تزامنا مع موعد اإلجازات السنوٌة للمصرٌٌن ،ونسقت سلطات مصر للطٌران مع الشركات المختلفة بعد وصول ركابها ترانزٌت لهذه النقاط ،إلعادتهم إلى مصر. ووسط تصاعد التوتر حول أسباب عودة المصرٌٌن من قطر ،قال محمد العراقً ،رئٌس مجلس إدارة اتحاد المصرٌٌن فً قطر" :إن العمالة المصرٌة العائدة من قطر ،بٌن عمال جاءوا لمصر لقضاء إجازاتهم وآخرٌن عائدون بشكل نهائً". وكشف العراقً لـ"الدستور" ،عن أنه قبل حدوث األزمة القطرٌة مع مصر والدول العربٌة، تم وضع نظام ٌسمى "التقطٌر" ،وهو عبارة عن إتاحة الوظائف اإلدارٌة للمواطنٌن القطرٌٌن ،مبٌ ًنا أن هذه الوظائف كان ٌعمل بها بعض المصرٌٌن وغٌرهم من الجنسٌات األخرى ،إال أن هذا القرار تسبب فً تركهم وظائفهم ،وأصبحوا دون عمل ،ولكن ما أبقاهم فً قطر أن بعضهم لدٌهم أبناء فً فترة االمتحانات التً انتهت هذا الشهر. وأوضح أن المشكلة الرئٌسة التً تواجه المصرٌٌن فً قطر اآلن ،هً مشكلة الطٌران بعد حدوث األزمة القطرٌة مع الدول العربٌة ،مبٌ ًنا أن الطٌران الترانزٌت أصبح من أكبر األزمات التً تواجه المصرٌٌن العائدٌن من قطر ،قائال" :المصري كان بٌسافر رحلة ذهاب وعودة على خطوط مصر للطٌران بتكلفة 1200لاير ،بما ٌعادل 5000جنٌه مصري، ولكن بعد األزمة الشركات بتستغل المصرٌٌن وأصبحت الرحلة بـ 5000لاير ،بما ٌساوي 25000جنٌه". وعن الفئة العمالٌة البسٌطة ،بٌَّن العراقً أنها تعانً بشكل كبٌر ،فهناك بعض المصرٌٌن الذٌن لم ٌأتوا إلى بالدهم منذ األزمة القطرٌة ألنهم ال ٌمتلكون تكلفة التذكرة ،مضٌ ًفا أنه فً حالة حدوث وفاة ألحد المصرٌٌن ٌتم إرسال جثمان المتوفً بتكلفة أعلى. وأكد العراقً أنه خالل األٌام القادمة سٌتخذ مجلس إدارة اتحاد المصرٌٌن فً قطر خطوات قانونٌة ضد بعض شركات الطٌران التً سببت خسائر لبعض المصرٌٌن فً قطر.

إعادة تشغٌل مطار كركوك أمام الرحالت الجوٌة األسبوع المقبل قال مكتب محافظ كروك ،الٌوم االثنٌن ٌ 9ولٌو/تموز ،إن وزارة النقل العراقٌة ،إنها وافقت على إعادة تشغٌل مطار كركوك الدولً أمام الرحالت الجوٌة ،اعتبارا من األسبوع المقبل. بغداد — سبوتنٌك .ووافقت وزارة النقل العراقٌة ،على إعادة تشغٌل مطار كركوك الدولً األسبوع المقبل أمام الرحالت الداخلٌة والدولٌة. بٌان للجٌش العراقً :القوات األمنٌة تسٌطر على مطار كركوك وذكر بٌان صادر عن مكتب محافظ كركوك ،راكان سعٌد الجبوري ،عقب لقائه وزٌر النقل، كاظم فنجان الحمامً ،أن "إعادة افتتاح مطار كركوك الدولً له أهمٌة لما تقدمه المحافظة من خدمات لملٌون ونصف الملٌون نسمة من أبناء كركوك وثالثة مالٌٌن نسمة لمواطنً دٌالى وصالح الدٌن وجنوب الموصل". وأضاف أن "رئٌس الوزراء حٌدر العبادي وافق على إحالة مشروع مطار كركوك وفق االستثمار". وأعلن وزٌر النقل بحسب البٌان ،أن "الوزارة ستقوم بتشغٌل مطار كركوك الدولً ،خالل األسبوعٌن المقبلٌن أمام الرحالت الدولٌة لتركٌا ولبنان وإٌران ،والرحالت الداخلٌة مع العاصمة بغداد ومحافظات أخرى ،بما ٌضمن وصول المسافرٌن من كركوك". ٌذكر أن محافظ كركوك المقال ،نجم الدٌن كرٌم ،أعلن ،عام ،2012أن رئٌس الوزراء آنذاك ،نوري المالكً ،وافق خالل لقاء جمعهما على تحوٌل مطار كركوك (الذي عرف بعد حرب العام 2003بـ"مطار الحرٌة") من عسكري إلى مدنً ،وأوعز إلى وزٌر النقل حٌنها، هادي العامري ،بالمباشرة فً اتخاذ الخطوات الالزمة فً هذا الشأن.

العقوبات األمٌركٌة تالحق شركة طٌران إٌرانٌة فرضت وزارة الخزانة األمٌركٌة ،االثنٌن ،عقوبات على وكٌل مبٌعات مقره مالٌزٌا لشركة "ماهان إٌر" ،وهً شركة طٌران إٌرانٌة تخضع لعقوبات أمٌركٌة ،بسبب "دعم إٌران لإلرهاب الدولً". ونقلت روٌترز عن بٌان لوزارة الخزانة األمٌركٌة "نتٌجة لإلجراء الذي اتخذ الٌومٌ ،تم تجمٌد كل ممتلكات ...ماهان للسفر والسٌاحة الموجودة تحت الوالٌة القضائٌة األمرٌكٌة". ٌأتً ذلك فً ظل ترقب إٌران لبدء دخول العقوبات األمٌركٌة حٌز التنفٌذ ،إذ من المنتظر أن تدخل العقوبات األمٌركٌة الصارمة ضد القطاع المالً اإلٌرانً حٌز التنفٌذ خالل األشهر المقبلة وهو ما ٌقلق نظام الماللً بسبب نفاد األموال. وأعلنت واشنطن عن عقوبات جدٌدة على إٌران وطلبت من جمٌع الدول وقف شراء النفط اإلٌرانً بحلول نوفمبر المقبل ،ومن الشركات األجنبٌة وقف التعامل مع إٌران وإال ستدرج على قوائم سوداء. والسبت الماضً ،أعلنت شركة "سً.إم.إٌه سً.جً.إم" الفرنسٌة ،وهً واحدة من كبرى شركات الشحن فً العالم وقف أنشطتها فً إٌران ،خوفا من الوقوع تحت طائلة العقوبات األمٌركٌة ،بعد أن انسحبت أمٌركا فً ماٌو الماضً ،من االتفاق النووي المبرم فً .2015

أدٌس أبابا وأسمرة تعلنان تطوٌر موانئ إرٌترٌة على البحر األحمر أعلنت هٌئة اإلذاعة اإلثٌوبٌة ،الٌوم اإلثنٌن ،أن إثٌوبٌا وإرٌترٌا ستطوران معا موانئ إرٌترٌة على البحر األحمر ،وذلك بعد ٌوم واحد من لقاء زعٌمى البلدٌن واتفاقهما على تطبٌع العالقات ،وإنهاء أزمة عسكرٌة استمرت 20عاما ،وقتل فٌها نحو 80ألف شخص. وقالت هٌئة اإلذاعة" :اتفق الزعٌمان خالل اجتماعهما على استعادة العالقات واستئناف الرحالت الجوٌة بٌن البلدٌن .كما اتفقا على المشاركة فى تطوٌر الموانئ". وكان رئٌس الوزراء اإلثٌوبى الدكتور أبى أحمد قد أعلن ،أمس األحد ،أن إثٌوبٌا وإرٌترٌا اتفقتا على إعادة فتح السفارات والحدود بٌن البلدٌن. وقال رئٌس الوزراء" :اتفقنا على أن تبدأ خطوط الطٌران بالعمل ،وفتح المرافئ ،والسماح بالدخول والخروج بٌن البلدٌن وإعادة فتح السفارات".

Ethiopian Airlines enters into aircraft interiors market Ethiopian Airlines Group will set up a facility in Ethiopia that will manufacture and supply aircraft seat covers, safety belts, carpets and many other interior parts to ACM Aerospace of Germany as part of the company’s line of production. Ergo, the biggest African airline group has signed a partnership business agreement with European aerospace manufacturing company pursuant to the aerospace manufacturing development programme it has embarked on. The facility will have the EASA part 21G certified Production facility (POA) certification which is a core requirement to be met in the industry. Aircraft seat covers, carpets and other cabin interior parts are manufactured from special fabric and leather materials that are certified and meet the strictest requirements set by aviation regulators such as EASA and FAA for use on an aircraft. Initially, the facility will manufacture the above products by importing such raw materials. However, it will shortly have the capability to certify the leather and fabrics that are produced in Ethiopia and use them in the production process thereby supporting the textile and leather manufacturing industries of the country. The facility will generate a considerable amount of forex and create a job opportunity for more than 100 individuals.

Boeing 737 MAX Joins Ethiopian Airlines’ Fleet Ethiopian Airlines took delivery of its first Boeing 737-8, the first of 30 of the type the carrier has on order. The Addis Abababased airline has more 737 MAX aircraft on order than any airline in Africa. Ten 737-8 options were firmed in June 2017. Nigeria: National Airline Takes Off in December, Says Govt The federal government yesterday said the proposed national airline for the country would be unveiled in December, 2018. The Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, said this in a statement by the ministry's Deputy Director, Media and Public Affairs, James Odaudu. The minister, according to the statement, made this commitment while receiving the Outline Business Case Certificate of Compliance from the Director General of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), Mr. Chidi Izuwa, in Abuja. According to the minister, "There is no doubt that the issue of national carrier for Nigeria is very close to the hearts of both the government and the people, which is the reason it has taken the option of a Public Private partnership with the belief that it was the only way to deliver a national carrier that would stand the test of time."

He assured that the National Carrier that would be delivered would be world class in operation and management. The minister said the presentation of the certificate was a testament on how far the project had gone. The proposed airline will gulp $8.8 million as preliminary cost and $300 million as take-off cost. The project would be executed through a Public Private Partnership (PPP). According to Sirika, Nigeria would receive the first set of five airplanes for the airliner on December 19. The airline would make profit in three years after operations, he said. "We will make the investments and follow the business plan through private sector management. We intend to get a 30 aircraft market in five years. But we will begin with five aircraft on the day of launch," he said. Sirika added, "At Farnborough International Public Air show coming July 18, 2018 in London, we will unveil the name, logo, colour scheme, the structure and the type of airplane about the national carrier. We will also place the order for the aircraft at the event." The minister explained that the government would step in to cover the funding gap at the onset and exit later. He said the government would not get involved in the management of the national carrier, adding that Nigeria's population of over 180 million people is huge enough to support aviation and that the airline would take advantage of Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) that the country had with over 70 countries.

African economic development: Time for intra trade sincerity For too long, Africa has paid lip service to the cultivation of intracontinental trade as the undisputed panacea for its economic development. At this age when the recurrent concern of the annual Summit of African leaders on the platform of the African Union is economic integration, the fact that the percentage share of trades amongst African nations amounts to a paltry 11.3 per cent of the continent’s total trade with the world seems to put a lie to the sincerity of African developmental vision and mission. This poor record is never a mere theoretical postulation. It is a naked truth that has, for long, embarrassed the sight and senses of African leaders, as they relent not in conceiving and weaving together new ideas in their attempts at turning Mother Africa into an economic success. The latest indicator of the restlessness of African leaders, in this regard, is the decision of the recently-held 30th Ordinary Session of the African Union Summit on a single African aviation market. During this Summit held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, African leaders took a landmark decision to establish a Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM). This project, which is an offshoot of the AU Agenda 2063, is aimed at enhancing connectivity across the continent, which will, ultimately, serve as a catalyst to economic growth through monumental boost in intra African trade.

2 The good news is that, so far, 23 countries have declared their commitment to the immediate implementation of the Yamoussoukro Decision towards the establishment of a Single African Air Transport. Obviously inspired by the same intra-trade boosting spirit, the AU Assembly also decided to hold an Extraordinary Session of the Executive Council last March 19, 2018, in Kigali, Rwanda, to consider the CFTA Legal instruments and sign the Agreement Establishing the African Continental Free Trade Area. Undoubtedly, these initiatives, just like listless others, considered and approved in the past by our leaders, reflect the widespread recognition and acceptance of truth. If African countries must develop their economies, then they must initiate and sustain an international trade culture that places great emphasis on intra African trade. In other words, Africa and Africans have realized that the current widespread reality in which African countries, organisations or nationals prefer to have trade or business relationships with nonAfrican countries, organisations or nationals, thus neglecting their African neighbours, is retrogressive. It can never and would never aid the ideals of continental economic development and integration for which sake the AU and its sister African Regional Economic Communities exist. The problems that actually fire restless innovativeness of the AU are the seemingly endless barriers that traditionally make it virtually impossible for African countries to exchange goods and services in money-oriented trades.

3 For instance, it is amusing to find that in a continental Union with eight different Regional Economic Communities, trucks had to negotiate 48 roadblocks between Kigali, Capital of Rwanda, and its neighbouring Mombasa in Kenya, as of 2014. Similarly unpleasant is the fact that in Africa where 28 countries belong to three or more regional communities or groupings, only two RECs, specifically the East African Community (EAC) and Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) have established regional customs, in an obvious attempt to ease regional economic integration. The AU and all other stakeholders in the African project have also been disturbed by the most obvious barrier to cross-border movement within the Continent. I am talking about the restriction imposed on the movement of Africans within Africa, a so-called Union where only five out of the 54 African countries offer visa-free access or visas on arrival to other African citizens, as at 2014.

Saudia Cargo CEO Hariri to be a member in IATA Cargo Committee Saudia Cargo chief executive officer Omar bin Talal Hariri has been selected as a member of the Cargo Committee of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The committee of 19 members represents different global airlines companies. The Cargo Committee is one of six IATA main industry committees along with finance, environment, industry affairs, legal and operations. The committee advises the board of governors, the director general and other relevant IATA bodies on all air cargo industry issues including cargo security and safety; cargo technology and automation; cargo handling; cargo distribution; cargo-related regulatory developments, cargo trade facilitation and agent and carrier relations. Appointed as CEO of Saudi Airlines Cargo Company LLC in February 2018, Hariri has held senior positions in several companies during his career, with considerable expertise in transportation, supply and logistics services.

Air Passenger Demand Continues Strong Growth Global air passenger traffic reached record levels in May despite rising airline costs tied to jet fuel prices. Data recently released by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) shows that demand (measured in revenue passenger kilometers or RPKs) rose 6.1 percent in May compared to the same month in 2017. Despite the impact of strikes in Europe and mixed signals regarding the economic backdrop, traffic growth remains healthy, said IATA. In the Middle East, May demand growth slowed to 0.8 percent compared to a year ago. The figure also represents a drop from the 2.9 percent annual growth recorded in April. “The earlier timing of Ramadan this year may have affected the result, but more broadly, the upward trend in traffic has slowed compared to last year,” said IATA. May capacity increased 3.7 percent, and load factor fell 1.9 percentage points to 67.5 percent. North American airlines are also faring well thus far in 2018. Traffic increased 4.9 percent in May compared to the same month last year. That’s also a significant rebound from the 0.9 percent growth in April, which was a 36-month low. Capacity climbed 3.4 percent and load factor increased 1.2 percentage points to 82.0 percent. In Latin America, there was a 7.5 percent increase in traffic in May compared to the same month last year, which was up from 6.5 percent growth in April. Capacity climbed 7.0% and load factor rose 0.4 percentage points to 81.6%. “

The region's two largest economies, Nigeria and South Africa, may be moving in opposite directions again, with higher oil prices bolstering the Nigerian economy, while business confidence in South Africa has weakened again, said IATA. While IATA said the airline industry is experiencing solid performance and net profits overall, the organization also cautioned that storm clouds are on the horizon including rising cost inputs, growing protectionist sentiment and the risk of trade wars, as well as geopolitical tensions. “Aviation is the business of freedom, liberating people to lead better lives. Governments that recognize this will take steps to ensure aviation is economically sustainable. And aviation works best when borders are open to trade and people," said de Juniac.

Govt keen to support aviation sector Government says it is committed to supporting the aviation industry given its critical role in national development. This was said yesterday by the director of aviation and rail, Mr Allowance Sango during the launch of Proflight Zambia’s HarareLusaka route. Proflight Zambia landed at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport at about 8am, as the firm seeks to boost trade ties that exist between the two countries through improving connectivity of the key destinations. Mr Sango said Government was happy that more airlines continue to see scope of flying into Zimbabwe, which has embarked on a journey of economic turnaround following the coming in of the new dispensation led by President Mnangagwa. “. . . I would like to take this opportunity to assure Proflight as well as other airlines here represented, of our continued support for the aviation industry. “This is largely due to our recognition of the strategic importance of the aviation industry to national development,” said Mr Sango. He said the coming in of Proflight Zambia is a “great occasion” to the country, the aviation sector and business. Proflight Zambia will be plying the Harare-Lusaka route four times a week using the Jetstream 41 aircraft on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

3 Director of human resources and administration in the Zambian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Kasonde Mwila, who came aboard the inaugural flight, said he was “excited” with the development. Mr Mwila said the initiative is exciting to the Zambian government as it makes the transportation of goods and people “easier”. He said his government continues to create an enabling environment for airlines to operate, and would want to see more of them landing in foreign capitals. Meanwhile, the launch of the Harare-Lusaka route comes at a time when Government has engaged in the “managed liberalisation” of the air transport sector to enhance destination connectivity for the benefit of travellers. In the spirit of opening up the skies, Cabinet has opened up domestic routes which were previously monopolised by Air Zimbabwe. The Harare-Bulawayo and Harare-Victoria Falls routes have been opened up to other local players such as FlyAfrica Zimbabwe.
