Westside Concepts also opened Fire House Event Center, a sorely needed event venue for the West Valley, located in Old Town Peoria. This gives the growing restaurant group seven physical locations as well as handling all of the food and beverages for Cibola Vista Resort. “With all of our restaurant locations needing to be at 50 percent occupancy, it’s definitely hurt us,” says owner Joey Lucidi says about the pandemic. “But we’re grateful to the community and are doing our best considering all of the challenges. We are overly cautious—all locations are adhering and

exceeding all government health and safety regulations.” “As always, everyone at Westside Concepts appreciates the support of local residents who make sure to patron locally owned businesses,” he adds. “I always knew this place was special, but the northwest Peoria area has been out of this world during these difficult times,” Lucidi continues. “The encouragement they have shown is second to none.” Cantina Gueros is located at 25315 N. Now, months later, it’s official: Salad and Go will open locally in 2021. “The CUP [conditional use permit] was approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission on November 5,” says Kristina Perez, spokeswoman for the city of Peoria. “Their next step is the approval of a site plan and construction plans.” “We [Salad and Go] are excited about the recent, and unanimous approval, from the Peoria Planning and Zoning Commission, and are looking forward to bringing our drive-thru revolution to Peoria in 2021,” adds Holly Ratliff, Salad and Go’s vice president of marketing.

City News Peoria Writer Pens First Book Just in Time for the Holidays LOCAL WRITER JENNIFER MARSHALL RECENTLY RELEASED HER FIRST PUBLISHED BOOK, CHRISTMAS COOKIES ON A CRUISE SHIP. It’s being published under her pen name Parker Fairchild. The 286-page novel is a fun romantic comedy. Marshall shares the premise of the book: “Chemist and budding romance writer Olivia Chasen is on a cruise to avoid spending Christmas with her beautiful twin sister and new fiancé—Olivia’s ex. Now, thanks to her lonely, intoxicated ramblings on Santa’s lap, her fellow passengers think she’s in love with a fictional character. Former Navy SEAL Commander Jace Morse has dealt with plenty of unusual situations in his career, but he’s never had the honor, the pleasure, or the privilege of being a beautiful and intelligent woman’s fantasy hero come to life. While he hasn’t officially met the sexy chemist, he’s sure eager to explore the chemistry that’s sizzling between them . Bringing the charming SEAL together with the skeptical Olivia is going to take more than just Christmas cookies and

a little help from Mrs. Claus; it’s gonna take a heaping dose of Christmas magic.” Marshall shares that she has always enjoyed writing, and over the years, she’s accumulated several novels in all stages of completion on her computer. In fact, she wrote the outline for Christmas Cookies on a cruise ship while on a Christmas holiday cruise in the Caribbean. Upon returning home, the outline was put aside and, later, just filed away. During the COVID-19 quarantine, she pulled out her outline and decided it was a good time to finish the story. Her mom, Jean, had just finished a book and was curious about the author. Looking her up, she discovered the author was not only a writer but she also was a publisher. Jean noticed, too, that they were looking for Christmas fiction submissions, and she called Jennifer immediately. Jennifer finished the book and submitted the first three chapters. In about a week, the publisher requested the full manuscript, and, well, the rest is history. Her publisher, 5 Prince Publishing, and Jennifer have worked really hard to get Christmas Cookies on a Cruise Ship ready for publication this year. To learn more, visit ParkerFairchild.com.

“Our goal was 2,000 bras and, with the help of a grant from the MDRT Foundation of $2,500, we exceeded our goal for a total of 2,868,” according to the Affinity Wealth Advisory Group team. Our publishing group, Eculeus Group Publishing (EGP), teamed up with local businesses to collect 377 bras to help in the effort. We would like to say thank you to Amazing Lash, Robyn’s Nest, and Lakeside Bar

For 2021, Affinity Wealth Advisory Group has an even bigger goal. “Next year our goal is 4,000,” according to the organization. “Believe it or not, it takes about 150 bras a week to meet the needs of women in the Valley.” “Many people don’t think about bras when it comes to donations for women in need, but dignity in appearance is important when attending interviews or reporting to work,” explains Natasha Beal, publisher at EGP. “Our team is so grateful for all of the local businesses and community partners who allowed us to place donation boxes at their locations and to community members who donated.”

Education Local Businesses Step Up to Help PUSD Students During Pandemic

E

ven in a pandemic, Peoria Unified’s Medical Engineering Technology (MET) Professional Academy students are continuing their partnership with local business partners, which provides students the opportunity to engage with business leaders in a virtual environment. Many community partners realized the need to maintain as much normalcy possible for students and volunteered to

speak virtually to MET students to help them link what they are learning in the classroom to real-world applications. MET’s active advisory board and growing network of local business and postsecondary partners provides MET students with mentorship, authentic projects to engage in, college and career pathway guidance, along with job shadowing and internship opportunities. Students partner with local businesses in their field of study and receive one-on-one guidance from their professional mentor to produce a personalized learning experience. City of Peoria city traffic engineer Chris Lemka says MET places importance in recruiting the next generation of talent into the technical field.

Second year MET industrial engineering student Sylvia Lopez says working with her mentor has been invaluable and has allowed her to explore her passion through various professional fields.

“MET is an amazing program that connects aspiring students with real world professionals, says Lemka. “MET provides an opportunity to highlight the engineering profession with real world projects.

“Working with my mentor was rewarding and gave me a grasp on what work in the real world looks like and why it matters, says Lopez. “It allowed me to find what I want to do after high school.

The MET Academy serves students from all seven Peoria Unified high schools, allowing juniors and seniors that are interested in pursuing high demand STEM career pathways to choose a focus in medical, engineering, cyber security/IT networking or bioscience. For more information about the MET Academy, visit peoriaunified.org/MET.

Kids’ Corner FIND A

Winter Wonderland… By Jill “MamaBug” Frier

IN ARIZONA!

W

hen you live in the Valley of the Sun you don’t usually give much thought to snow and ice, even on the coldest winter days. We love our sunny, warm weather here in the desert and cherish our temperate winters. But for people seeking a brief glimpse of real cold weather and winter fun, there are many areas around the state where snow sightings are plentiful. Here are some of the best places to find Arizona snow.

FLAGSTAFF AND SURROUNDING AREAS Northern Arizona is known for its tall pines, beautiful mountain scenery, high elevation, and for having four seasons. Snow is pretty much a sure thing in Flagstaff every winter and this area is a favorite destination for Phoenix-based winter weather lovers. Here are a few of the best spots to experience your winter wonderland. Be sure to check ahead for weather and any restrictions before you head north.

• Snowbowl Ski Resort: A favorite for locals, this Arizona downhill ski resort is located at the top of the San Francisco Peaks. • Arizona Nordic Village: The perfect location for fun in the snow whether cross-country skiing or “snow biking.” • Snow Park in Fort Tuthill County Park: Stay in a yurt or a cabin and enjoy sledding and crosscountry skiing. • Oakhill Snow Play Area: A perfect place to play in the snow and slide down hills. • Elk Ridge Ski and Outdoor Recreation Area: Just south of Williams, enjoy downhill skiing, snowboarding, and tubing. • Mormon Lake: Visit the Mormon Lake Lodge for snowmobiling and cross-country skiing along groomed tracks. WHITE MOUNTAINS In the northeast part of Arizona, south of I-40 along the Colorado Plateau, the White Mountains are known for being a charming, high elevation rural escape from the hustle and bustle. Nestled among the tall pines and mountain lakes, the White Mountains are famous for their outstanding winter activities including great skiing, snowmobiling, and sledding. Each little town has its own winter charm but be sure to check the weather and road conditions before you head out.

• Sunrise Park Resort in Greer: Sunrise is the largest ski resort in Arizona and a perfect destination for fun in the snow. • Hannagan Meadow Lodge in Alpine: Enjoy sledding, ice fishing, and snow mobiles in rustic mountain surroundings. • Williams Valley Winter Sports Area in Alpine: The perfect hill for snowy activities, including crosscountry skiing, sledding, toboggans, and tubes. TUCSON The tall pines in Northern Arizona are not the only destinations for fun and frosty winter weather. There is also plenty of snow to be found in the southern part of our state on the towering elevations of Mt. Lemmon, just north of Tucson. Mt. Lemmon’s Ski Valley provides visitors with a unique winter escape just 25 miles uphill from beautiful desert vistas in the Catalina Mountains. Visitors to Ski Valley can enjoy downhill skiing and snowboarding while playing in a winter wonderland above the desert floor. MORE ARIZONA SNOW SIGHTINGS Although most of the prime skiing and sledding spots are in higher elevations among the tall pines, don’t overlook some of the picturesquely snowy spots closer to home. Whether a blanket of snow or just a light dusting, places like Prescott, Sedona, Payson, and Globe get their share of winter weather. And most years desert dwellers make at least one quick trip to Sunset Point, just north of Black Canyon City, to spend a couple of hours in the snow. One easy place to start your snow adventure is visitarizona.com. Make plans to get out of town and enjoy some fun in the snow this winter. Remember to check the weather and roads, prepare your vehicle for snow and ice, and plan ahead for any possible emergencies or delays because of snow. Do your homework and have a blast! World of Illumination

A BRIGHT IDEA IN ENTERTAINMENT I n a new world, where the height of entertainment is seeing what recently dropped on Netflix, one Valley business is working to burst the boredom bubble — just in time for the holidays. World of Illumination, the largest drive-through animated light show in the world, is back.

Rockin’ Christmas, a musical adventure come to life, is in Glendale at Westgate Entertainment District. The show is a mile in length and feature millions of RGB LED lights, customizable to up to 16 million shades of color. The drive-through attraction also boasts hundreds of animated displays and is synchronized to popular and beloved holiday music. Attendees will enjoy a holiday spectacular that showcases such elements as larger-than-life size boomboxes, iPods and jukeboxes. Rockin’ Christmas also features DJ Santa and his sidekick the Little Drummer Boy spinning tunes for disco dancers. Additionally, a 500-foot long lit-up tunnel doubles as Santa’s magic portal. Because of the musical nature of World of Illumination’s Rockin’ Christmas, the show even has a brief breakout tribute to the music of Queen. “We are so excited to unveil Rockin’ Christmas — a digital orchestra built with state-of-the-art technology that will transport you into a dazzling world of visual arts and music,” says World of Illumination co-founder Yakir Urman. “We will rock you, Glendale!” The light show takes approximately a half hour to drive through and is uniquely COVID-friendly, as visitors enjoy the views from the safety and comfort of their cars. Online reservations are also required, making the experience totally touchless and socially safe, while simultaneously controlling traffic to decrease waiting times. For those wondering which day to choose to visit, World of Illumination theme parks offer some extra perks on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Magic Mondays happen every Monday and feature the one and only Santa Claus live and in person. Golden Ticket Tuesdays offer park-goers a chance to win prizes valued at between $50 and $500. Lucky cars each night will be awarded the golden tickets at random. Finally, in conjunction with Subaru, Rockin’ Christmas in Glendale hosts Share the Love Wednesdays, where proceeds benefit special Arizona wish kids from the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Arizona. World of Illumination tickets are priced per vehicle rather than per person, making the experience extremely affordable. Prices start at $29 plus applicable taxes and fees per car on weeknights, and $39 plus taxes and fees per vehicle on weekends and holidays. Tickets are available for purchase at tickets.worldofillumination.com and online reservations are required.

CELEBRATE THE HOLIDAYS

IN PEORIA I

The city of Peoria is reimagining holiday celebrations this year

n response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the city of Peoria has reimagined holiday celebrations this year to include the Old Town Holiday Lights and Peoria Jolly Holly Days. Beginning Friday, December 4, Peoria residents will have the opportunity to enjoy holiday decorations, a scavenger hunt, a Christmas tree decoration contest for local businesses, and more in a safe and physically distanced way. “This year, we created an environment for residents to experience the magical spirit of the season in an up close and personal way,” says Mayor Cathy Carlat. “With music playing outdoors, small theater performances, and plenty of opportunities to capture memorable moments among holiday lights, we hope families wander around, enjoying the warmth of the season, while making new and everlasting memories.” Kicking off the festivities is the Old Town Holiday Lights. Starting December 4, Osuna

Park will be adorned in lights, oversized decorations, and a large Christmas tree with lights synced to a music show. Throughout the month, there will be small music concerts on the plaza outside of the Peoria Center for the Performing Arts (PCPA), and “A Curiouser Nutcracker” performances occurring in the PCPA, presented by the resident company, TheaterWorks. Residents are encouraged to stroll through the park, to take holiday pictures or selfies, listen to music and stay physically distanced. The decorations and lights will be up until January 1, 2021. “We are happy to be able to offer residents a safe way to experience holiday festivities throughout Peoria all month long,” says Marylou Stephens, arts and events manager. In addition, the city of Peoria is hosting a holiday scavenger hunt and partnering with the Peoria Chamber of Commerce for a tree-decorating contest involving local businesses for the Peoria Jolly Holly Days. For

the scavenger hunt, residents must locate a minimum of five wreaths with blue ribbons hanging in local businesses throughout Peoria. Then, they can download the scavenger hunt form at peoriaaz.gov/events, fill it out and turn it in at either the Peoria Main Library or Sunrise Mountain Library. Participants will get a free holiday book while supplies last and be entered to win one of several prizes, including two free nights at Cibola Resort and Spa and a gift card to Cantina Gueros. Each library will also have six trees on display that will be decorated by Peoria businesses, for a total of 12, in which residents can vote on the ones they like the best. The business with the tree that is voted as the best will receive a $500 prize. To get a full list of holiday activities in Peoria and to download the Peoria Jolly Holly Days scavenger hunt form, visit peoriaaz.gov/events. Residents are encouraged to share their holiday fun on the city of Peoria’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages, using #peoriaaz as your hashtag.

Health Local ER Nurse is Honored for 25 Years of Service

A

brazo Scottsdale Campus ER nurse Tom Bretz, RN, CEN, was recently recognized for 25 years as a Certified Emergency Nurse. Bretz received the recognition from the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN). Emergency nurse certification from BCEN requires passing a rigorous test on emergency care and completing annual continuing education. Bretz, a Peoria resident, has worked as a nurse for 42 years, joining Abrazo five years ago. “Tom exemplifies the meaning of Emergency Room nurse through providing quality care and compassion for every patient,” says Sarah Bird, RN, BSN, director of the Emergency Department at Abrazo Scottsdale Campus. “We are really appreciative of everything he does for our patients, as we are of all our nurses and staff.” In receiving his 25-year pin and certificate, BCEN recognized Bretz’s commitment and dedication to emergency nursing, and acknowledged the many years of service dedicated to furthering his knowledge for expert patient care.

The coronavirus pandemic has been rough, he acknowledges, not only at work but affecting home and daily activities from shopping to not going out. “We are trained to identify a problem and to fix it as best we can, yet it seems we can only band aid this for now. More happily we are slowly beginning to get a handle on treatments, and hopefully there is light at the end of the tunnel; within the next year this can all be in the rearview mirror,” he says. Still, he gets satisfaction from helping turn around any situation from an emergency, perceived or real. “If that is teaching someone about their illness, putting on a dressing, starting an IV, helping a stroke or a heart patient, or giving a child a popsicle, when you can change the situation into a more normal situation and see that in a patient, that’s the satisfaction of a job well done.” “I enjoy what I do. There’s a lot of variety and I get to help a lot of people with things like traumatic injury or stroke; every day is different,” he says.

Holiday Help Creating New Holiday Traditions for the Interfaith and Inter-Spiritual Family By Scott Bennion, M.Div.

F

or many people the holidays are a magical time full of childhood memories informed in large measure by the faith tradition one received from their parents. For others though, this time is one of sadness as families come to terms with differing beliefs and sensibilities around the holidays. This is only complicated by the hustle and bustle of consumerism. This blur of time between October and February, where people seem to be driven from one holiday to the next, could be referred to as Hallowthanks-mas-tine. Then, there is the COVID-19 pandemic, ever before us with so many unknowns. Just one more thing to complicate this time that was supposed to be magical, significant, and filled with promises of peace. What does one do when they no longer resonate with the faith they grew up with? What happens when your children have parted ways from the family faith and now you find your extended family comprised of multiple faith traditions and/or spiritual paths, those with no faith, and even others identifying as “spiritual but not religious”? How does one find meaning and approach the holidays now with such divergent beliefs and diversity?

First and foremost, we must begin by accepting things as they are versus trying to cling to something that once was. Trying to change or control things will only add to one’s sadness. In fact, clinging to the past, to days gone by, to the holidays of yesteryear, will only prolong the pain. Feel the sadness, the pain, and the grief but look to the present with hopeful optimism. Recognize that we now live in what has been referred to as the dawn of inter-spirituality. The term “interspiritual” was coined by Brother Wayne Teasdale to name an emerging model of mystical life, one that is connected to social and ecological justice while being born through the sharing of “ultimate experiences” across religious and wisdom traditions. Recognize too that even for those whose spirituality is expressed religiously, no two people from the same religion express their faith in identical fashion. Once one accepts things as they are and recognizes the inter-spiritual shift that has already happened in the broader culture, they will be prepared to create new holiday rituals. This shift in the broader culture is happening in everyone’s family already. As it manifests it’s an opportunity to create meaningful rituals and magical moments that emphasize love and connection. How do you do this? Start by asking everyone involved

about what their desired outcomes are. Look for similarities here as well as where there might be similar practices/traditions among the differing holidays. Allow for diversity too. For example, someone might want to share something special to them. Find the unity in the diversity. Look for shared values. Make it more about universal spiritual/existential themes (e.g. love, connection, compassion, joy, peace, etc.). Consider these words by Brené Brown when creating your holidays: “Spirituality is recognizing and celebrating that we are all inextricably connected to each other by a power greater than all of us, and that our connection to that power and to one another is grounded in love and compassion. Practicing spirituality brings a sense of perspective, meaning and purpose to our lives.” Let’s forgo the tendency to want to be right and resist change and instead use that energy to create new holidays. Be the change you with to see in the world. Scott Bennion is a health and wellness coach, spiritual guide and counselor. His practice brings together coaching and spiritual guidance with specialization in the areas of relationships, sexuality, and spirituality. He can be reached at interface4wellness.com.

e made it to December, in what some would call the most extended year to date. This year started strong with the market well balanced for both buyers and sellers. By March, everything started to change. COVID-19 was taking over our everyday lives and our thoughts were that this would only last a few weeks. Fast forward to November, and we saw an election that was fraught with more division between parties and people in decades. What a year! How did 2020 affect the value of your home? There was a lot of talk going around right as the lockdown started that the housing market would be hit hard like 2007. The naysayers were wrong and right. It was hit hard. Hard with appreciation. Hard with multiple offers and buyers offering thousands more than the list price. Listing agents had a tough time trying to figure out what to price the home as each week it seemed to increase over the previous. The graph below shows appreciation in 85383 over last year. We see an 11% increase in home values over the prior year.

Roof Installations Within 2 Weeks

Deal Directly with the Owner

Last year, the median home price was less than $385,000, with median home sales this year reaching $425,000. An average of $40,000 increase year over year. Just for owning a home in 2020! I always try to find a silver lining in life, but this is beyond what I could have hoped for with everything else happening in 2020. What is driving the home prices up? Inventory is the leading cause of price increases. As we shifted this year from a balanced market to a seller’s market, housing prices dramatically increased. Since COVID-19 happened in March, we saw a decline in listing inventory Valley-wide. We currently have only 145 active listings in 85383 as of writing this article. Valley-wide we have just over 8,000 active listings. In March, we had over 13,000 active listings! That is 5,000 fewer homes to choose from in the Valley, creating a significant difference in buyers’ options, giving sellers a leg up during negotiations and ultimately getting what they are looking for when they sell their home. Do I think this will continue into 2021 and beyond? I don’t have a crystal ball. What I can say is that with inventory continuing to be scarce and interest rates continuing to stay at an all-time low, we should see this trend continue into the coming year. It is a great time to sell, and I would love to talk with you about what it might look like for you. Give me a call if you want to talk at 623-203-1800.

Here’s another graph showing the median home price in 85383 over last year.

Home The Ultimate Charcoal Grill Shopping Guide By BBQ Island

I

f you are planning to purchase a charcoal grill for the first time, it is important to consider certain factors before making a decision.

LOCATION The first important determinant is where you want to put your charcoal grill. If you want to make it a permanent part of your kitchen (indoor or outdoor), a built-in choice would be the right one for you. The location would also determine which material to go for. For outdoor kitchens, you need to pick one that can withstand extreme weather conditions. USAGE A few important questions you need to ask yourself are: How many people are you grilling for? How often will you grill? The following list would give you an idea about the different charcoal grill sizes available on the market: • Small: They are perfect for couples and small families, and a few guests now and then. They are around 26 inches wide and support direct heat only for grilling.

• Medium: Perfect for large families and guests. The cooking grates measure somewhere between 27 to 33 inches in width and support both direct and indirect heat cooking. • Large: Large charcoal grills are suitable for family get-togethers. The cooking grates range up to 34 inches wide and support both direct and indirect heat cooking. CHARCOAL GRILL CLASS The last thing to choose is the charcoal grill class. How fancy do you want your grill to be? If you want to simply grill and can overlook the fancy factor, then an economy charcoal grill might be right for you. They have small capacities and limited versatility. As they are made with low-quality material, they need to be replaced sooner.

ADVANTAGES OF A CHARCOAL GRILL • Versatile Cooking: With the option of cooking with both direct and indirect heat, you can add versatility to your cooking. Whether you want it baked, grilled, seared, or smoked, you get it all. • Incredible Flavors: Enjoy aromatic flavor in your food without putting much effort into the cooking. • Affordable: They are quite pocket friendly and give you value for your dollar. Almost all products come with a warranty.

Then you have premium charcoal grills, which are made from stainless steel or aluminum with a few extras like hidden rotisseries, adjustable height trays, push-button ignitions, charcoal chamber doors, and are usually meant for longevity outdoors.

CONS OF A CHARCOAL GRILL • It can get a little messy if not handled properly and can require a lot of time in cleaning up. It is all about how you handle it. • Longer cooking sessions mean more charcoal. No such issues with shorter cooking sessions though. • Its heat up time is relatively longer than gas grills.

The last one would be a luxury charcoal grill. These are usually made from commercial grade stainless

Solar Must Be Installed by Dec 31st or Miss Out on 26% Tax Credit

A

rizona Home Owners have until December 31, 2020 to have a solar system installed and be “Operational” to qualify for the Federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC). If the system is installed after that date the tax credit will drop to 22% in 2021 and 0% in 2022. Is there still time for a solar project to be initiated and completed before the end of the year? According to Val Berechet, President of SunSolar Solutions, a local solar company with over 6500 customers in Arizona, it only takes one or two days to complete a solar installation. The issue is, it can take anywhere from 60 to 90 days from the point of getting a proposal to having the permit from the city and approvals from APS. So it is getting close to the point where that will become impossible to accomplish. To remove the uncertainty for their customers SunSolar Solutions will guarantee customers an installation in 2020 if they call for a proposal through October 2020.

In addition to the Federal ITC, the State of Arizona will issue a $1000 tax credit that can be applied to 2020 state taxes. According to Solar Energy Industry Association (SEIA): If a homeowner buys the solar energy system outright (either paying cash or financing with a loan), they cannot use any commence construction safe harbor provisions. To receive the full 26% residential solar tax credit, the system must be “placed in service” before the end of the day December 31, 2020. It is not enough to have signed a contract, or to have made a down payment or even to have begun construction. There is no bright-line test from the IRS on what constitutes “placed in service,” but the IRS has equated this with “completed installation” in a Private Letter Ruling. The residential credit is claimed on the tax return for the year in which the qualifying expenditures are incurred, and the tax rules say the costs are incurred when the

system installation has been completed. The 25D tax credit will step down to 26% in 2020, 22% in 2021, and 0% starting in 2022. If a homeowner buys a newly built home with solar and owns the system outright, the year that they move into the house sets their credit eligibility. Expenditures are generally treated as incurred when the original installation of the solar energy system is completed on an existing home. However, if a new solar energy system is purchased in connection with the new construction of a home, the costs are treated as incurred when the taxpayer begins living in the home. QUICK FACTS The ITC is a 26 percent tax credit for solar systems on residential (under Section 25D) and commercial (under Section 48) properties. The Section 48 commercial credit can be applied to both customer-sited commercial solar systems and large-scale utility solar farms.

★★★★★

The residential and commercial solar ITC has helped the U.S. solar industry grow by more than 10,000% percent since it was implemented in 2006, with an average annual growth of 50% over the last decade alone. Congress passed a multi-year extension of the ITC in 2015. A tax credit is a dollar-fordollar reduction in the income taxes that a person or company would otherwise pay the federal government. The ITC is based on the amount of investment in solar property. Both the residential and commercial ITC are equal to 26 percent of the basis that is invested in eligible solar property. If you would like to receive a free proposal customized to your home’s roof and APS usage call Michael O’Donnell, VP of Sales at SunSolar Solutions at 602818-1355. Act now to ensure the installation in 2020 and receive the full 26% Federal ITC and the $1000 Arizona Tax Credit on this years taxes.

GREAT WOLF LODGE THE ANNUAL SNOWLAND CELEBRATION OFFERS FROSTY FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

G

reat Wolf Lodge celebrates the most festive time of year with its annual Snowland celebration taking place now through January 3, 2021. As part of its Paw Pledge, Great Wolf Lodge put additional health and safety protocols into place for this year’s event, so families can safely soak up the holiday spirit with daily snow showers in the Grand Lobby, seasonally-themed crafts, stories and songs, and new this year: a Cocoa Trolley. Along with seasonal Snowland festivities, families can relax at the resort’s expansive 84-degree indoor water park while also experiencing the most magical holiday gift of all: time together as a family.

and Coloring Sheets, Snowland Post Cards, Snowland Bracelet Making, and Reindeer Origami. A new mobile Cocoa Trolley will traverse the lodge, moving from floor-to-floor and inviting holiday revelers to grab a delectable, piping-hot cocoa on the way to their rooms. The Trolley will be easy to spot and hear, with lights, garland, and other holiday décor, and a bell that will chime once the cocoa is ready to start flowing. Of course, staying in the spirit, a pack member donning a traditional “ugly sweater” will pour the selected cocoa drink of choice. Along with the more traditional hot cocoa, the Trolley menu includes specialty cocoas, such as Red Velvet Hot Cocoa and Mocha Hot Cocoa, served in keepsake mason-jar mugs. Adults over 21 have the option for libation additions like Kahlua, Bailey’s Irish Cream, or Coffee Liqueur for a nominal fee. Gingerbread and holiday sugar cookies cap off the Trolley’s offerings, completing the perfect sweet treat to close out a day enjoying Snowland. Keeping in the spirit of the season, during Hanukkah on Sunday, Dec. 22 - Monday, Dec. 30, there will be a daily lighting of the menorah candle, (excluding Friday), located in the main lobby.

Beyond sharing holiday cheer during Snowland, Great Wolf Lodge is hoping to raise funds for Make-A-Wish® and help grant wishes for children facing critical illnesses with a special holiday campaign. During Snowland festivities, retail outlets at Great Wolf Lodge will sell festive Santa Hat Wolf Ears for $6.99, with $2 from each sale being donated to Make-A-Wish. Additionally, the new Cocoa Trolley will also offer Make-A-Wish signature cocoa drinks, with a portion of each sale donated to the organization.

Throughout Snowland, Great Wolf Lodge’s Paw Pledge program will be in full effect. The company-wide initiative to keep families healthy and safe while they play together at the indoor waterpark resort was developed

in conjunction with medical professionals, disinfection specialists, industrial engineers and public health officials. The program focuses on disinfection and sanitization, physical distancing, personal protection like face masks, and minimizing surface interactions in all guest areas across the resort. In addition to unlimited access to the water park, all the family activities offered during Snowland are included as part of an overnight stay. A complete listing of daily activities is provided to guests upon check-in or guests can download the Great Wolf Lodge app for a schedule of Snowland events. Great Wolf Lodge in Scottsdale is located at 7333 N. Pima Road. Learn more by visiting greatwolf.com/Arizona.

During the day, there will be fun, physically distanced activities that start in the morning with “Twas the Night Before Snowland” Yoga Tails and conclude in the evening with the Frosty Fest Family Dance Party. Throughout the day guests are treated to frequent snowfalls in the Grand Lobby, as well as a telling of Great Wolf Lodge’s signature holiday story “Unique as a Snowflake,” along with Snowland bingo and trivia games. Everywhere guests turn there is more merry fun to be had at the lodge, including surprise, socially-distanced visits by Santa. A new “Craft Kit to Go” program will be offered daily as guests can stop by to pick up a craft to complete inroom; the variety of DIY fun this year includes Snowl28 • Decemberr 2020 • UPPER WESTSIDER
