PEORIA LAUNCHES NEW RETAIL AND RESTAURANT SURVEY
Growing the city’s retail and restaurant base is important to growing local jobs and city revenues that support parks, public safety, and other city services.
The city needs your help in determining your most desired restaurants and retail establishments that they can share in their recruitment efforts to bring them to Peoria!
“Businesses want to go where they have an eager customer base and we think this survey will be a great tool for us as we pitch Peoria as THE place for business attraction,” said Economic Development Director Jennifer Stein.
The first survey is open now through September 15 at peoriaaz.gov/retailsurvey and the final results will be available there as well.
“Our intent is to make this a recurring survey, so we can continue to hear from our residents about what they want most and adjust strategies along the way,” added Stein.

This lawn and garden replacement program provides Maricopa County residents an opportunity to replace a gasoline powered lawn mower and/or a gasoline powered handheld lawn and garden device.
Participants receive a $150 voucher towards the cost of a new electric or battery powered lawn mower and/or a $50 voucher towards the cost of a handheld lawn and garden device at participating Home Depot stores after recycling gas-powered equipment at a participating drop-off location.

ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 20, THE CITY OF PEORIA “CUT THE RIBBON” TO COMMEMORATE THE DEBUT OF ITS FIRST AVIATION UNIT AND REVEAL THE NEW BELL 505 HELICOPTER, AS A NEW TOOL TO ENHANCE PUBLIC SAFETY CAPABILITIES IN THE WEST VALLEY.
Mayor Jason Beck, Police Chief Thomas Intrieri, Assistant Fire-Medical Chief Justin Gorospe and City Manager Henry Darwin addressed a crowd including guests from the Arizona State Legislature and members of the Peoria City Council.
“As Peoria, and the West Valley continue to grow, so will public safety needs,” said Peoria Mayor Jason Beck. “And moving forward, Peoria will be ready and able to help our residents, and our neighbors should they request a call for service.”
The Peoria City Council’s Strategic Priority of “Public Safety” recognized the need for the aviation unit and prioritized investing in the safety of first responders and community members. Mayor Jason Beck secured state funding in the amount of $3.5 million dollars through Arizona State Senate Bill 1702 to purchase a helicopter and establish an aviation unit. On December 12, 2023, the City Council approved the purchase of a Bell 505 helicopter to support FireMedical and Police.
“The Peoria Fire-Medical Department has been training air rescue technicians for more than 30 years and we are grateful that the city council prioritizes community safety and provides us with the tools we need to keep everyone safe,” said Peoria Assistant Fire-Medical Chief Justin Gorospe.
Peoria Police Chief Thomas Intrieri, who spent 20 years with Mesa Police, before joining Peoria is well-versed on how mission critical an aviation
unit can be for public safety response.
“As we roll out this program over a series of phases, we will be able to get to emergencies faster and be the ‘eye in the sky’ when searching for a missing person; or help guide ground support to curb potentially dangerous situations; or quickly find those evading law enforcement, " he said.
The Aviation Unit will be able to support other public safety entities in the West Valley upon request and availability.
Phoenix Police Commander Brian Riggan says aerial support is crucial to assist peace officers on the ground. “Aircraft provide an immediate impact to short-staffed public safety agencies. They also reduce risk to our citizens and police officers during high-risk incidents like police pursuits, foot chases, tactical situations, and emergency 911 calls for crimes in progress. Being airborne reduces response time and allows public safety to arrive faster to get an “eye” on the scene, which aids in apprehension and planning safe arrivals for responding police and fire department ground personnel.”
The helicopter will be housed at a hangar located at Glendale Municipal Airport along with offices for the pilot and maintenance crew. Full deployment of this aviation unit is expected by October 2025. It will also be available for use by surrounding West Valley cities.
About the Bell 505 aircraft: Known for its versatile capabilities during public safety missions, the Bell 505 is outfitted with a Safran Arrius 2R engine, dual channel FADEC, and Garmin G1000H NXi avionics suite. The Bell 505 remains an ideal aircraft for those in the public safety field for its added benefit of wide panoramic windows, an open cabin design, and Synthetic Vision technology.

IN RESPONSE TO THE ONGOING DROUGHT CHALLENGE ACROSS THE SOUTHWEST, PEORIA PARKS AND RECREATION IS LAUNCHING A NEW TURF REDUCTION WATER CONSERVATION PROGRAM. Starting this week, the city will be removing non-programmable turf in 18 city parks and replacing it with desert landscaping. Playing fields are not part of this project.
This project is part of Peoria's commitment to water conservation, which includes issuing a Stage One Drought Contingency Plan in August 2022. For every one acre of turf removed, Peoria will save up to one million gallons of water a year!
be done during the summer and fall months when the grass is at its healthiest. Designated turf will be prepared for removal, resulting in brown and dying grass. During this process, the area of turf removal will remain open until crews start to physically remove the grass. Contractors will post signage while onsite and spraying the grass. The area is safe to walk on when the product dries. This process may cause temporary inconveniences but will ultimately lead to long-term water conservation efforts.
OF THE 18 CURRENT TURF REDUCTION PROGRAM LOCATIONS, THOSE PARKS IN 85383 INCLUDE:
• Palo Verde Park, 26200 N. 73rd Dr.
• Sonoran Mountain Ranch Park, 7098 W. Miner Trl.
• Terramar Park, 6900 W. Happy Valley Rd.
• Westland Park, 31565 N. Westland Rd.
The new xeriscape will feature native plants that require less water and maintenance than traditional grass. This will result in a significant reduction in water consumption while also providing environmental benefits such as reducing air pollution, storm water runoff, and the heat island effect.
The process of removing turf is seasonal and can only

ATTORNEY GENERAL KRIS MAYES IS AGAIN WARNING ARIZONANS TO BE ON HIGH ALERT FOR CRYPTOCURRENCY SCAMS TARGETING VULNERABLE INDIVIDUALS, PARTICULARLY SENIOR CITIZENS.
"Scammers are taking advantage of the lack of familiarity on how cryptocurrency works to scam Arizonans out of their hard-earned money,” said Attorney General Mayes. “My office is committed to ensuring that all Arizonans are informed and protected against these emerging threats. I urge Arizonans to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to our office immediately."
Scammers are always finding new ways to steal your money using cryptocurrency. Some common scams to watch out for:
INVESTMENT SCAMS:
Scammers may contact you out of the blue on social media pretending to be an investment manager. The scammer may also pose as a love interest on a dating app who wants to help you invest your money. These scammers will promise a high-rate of return with “zero-risk” as long as you buy cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin and transfer it to the scammer’s account.
BUSINESS, GOVERNMENT OR JOB IMPERSONATOR SCAMS:
In a business, government, or job impersonator scam, the scammer pretends to be someone you trust to convince you to send them money by buying and sending cryptocurrency. They may claim to have seen fraud on your accounts and that your money is at risk and to fix it you’ll need to buy cryptocurrency and send it to them. They might also say there’s a legal problem, that you owe money, or your accounts or benefits are frozen as part of an investigation. They tell you to solve the problem or protect your money by buying cryptocurrency. These are red flags that indicate a scam.
BLACKMAIL SCAMS:
Scammers might send emails or U.S. mail to your home saying they have embarrassing or compromising photos, videos, or personal information about you. Then, they threaten to make it public unless you pay them in cryptocurrency. Don’t do it. This is blackmail and a criminal extortion attempt. Report it to law enforcement immediately.
TIPS TO AVOID FALLING VICTIM TO SCAMS: Verify Information: Before taking any actions, hang up, and independently verify the legitimacy of the
caller by directly contacting the organization they claim to represent. Never use the contact details they provide — call whoever they claim to represent directly. Scammers can mask numbers making it appear that a legitimate company or organization is calling you.
Be Skeptical: Always be skeptical of unsolicited calls, especially those asking for immediate action involving financial transactions. A government agency will never ask you to remove money from your accounts to send via bitcoin, wire transfer or gift cards.
Only Scammers Demand Payment in Cryptocurrency: No legitimate business is going to demand you send cryptocurrency in advance – not to buy something, and not to protect your money. That’s always a scam.
Secure Your Personal Information: Never share personal information like your social security number, bank account details, or passwords over the phone with unknown callers or give anyone real-time access to your computer. Never click on a link from an unexpected text, email, or social media message, even if it seems to come from a company you know.
Consult Trusted Individuals: Always consult with a trusted family member or friend before making any substantial financial decisions, especially those involving digital currencies like bitcoin.
Report Suspicious Activity: If something feels off, it probably is. Report the call to local law enforcement and file a complaint with the Arizona Attorney General’s Office.
If you believe you or someone you know has been the victim of fraud file a consumer complaint by visiting azag.gov/consumer. If you believe you have been the victim of identity theft, get help from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) by visiting identitytheft.gov or by calling 877-438-4338.

MARICOPA COUNTY ANIMAL CARE & CONTROL (MCACC) IS EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE ITS MISSION MICROCHIP EVENT TO OFFER FREE MICROCHIPPING SERVICES THROUGH THE END OF THE YEAR TO HELP KEEP PETS SAFE AND IN THEIR HOMES.
Studies show that more than five million animals enter shelters nationwide each year. Of those shelter animals, forty to sixty percent are lost pets. The unfortunate reality is that one in three pets will go missing at some point, sometimes at no fault of the owner. Even the most well-behaved dogs can get lost or run off unexpectedly. Microchipping dogs not only greatly increases the chances of reuniting these lost dogs with their owners, but it may also help reduce the crowding problem shelters are facing all over the US.
“After seeing how successful our Care on the Go events were, and how much services like microchips are needed, we knew this would be a great opportunity for our community,” said Communications Supervisor, Kim Powell. “The goal of the mission is to have all Maricopa County dogs
microchipped, so they can easily be returned to their owners should they get lost or be separated.”
While MCACC already microchips every dog it adopts out, this event will give Maricopa County residents who may not have adopted their dog from one of its shelters the opportunity to receive free microchipping services for their beloved dog.
There is a limit of two pets per person, with a separate appointment required for each pet. These services are offered by appointment only, with available time slots open two weeks in advance. To schedule, visit maricopa.gov/215/ Rabies-Vaccinations-and-Microchipping.

ARIZONANS NOW HAVE ANOTHER WAY TO USE DIGITAL DRIVER LICENSES AND IDS
ADOT MVD will enable mobile ID acceptance on iPhone with the Smart ID Verifier app. By using the Smart ID Verifier app, Arizona retailers can easily and securely accept mobile IDs in person to verify the ages of customers purchasing alcohol directly on their iPhones, no additional hardware needed. This new feature will bring Arizonans another way to use their mobile driver licenses.
The Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division is partnering with the Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control to enable Mobile ID Acceptance on iPhone with the Smart ID
Verifier app, available in the App Store. Participating retailers selling age-restricted beverages have an efficient and secure way to verify a customer’s age. Retailers using the Smart ID Verifier app will only be provided the required information necessary for age verification, such as a customer's age and ID photo. The information is encrypted between devices, so customers do not need to hand over their smartphones.
“ADOT MVD is proud to once again provide new ways for Arizonans to seamlessly conduct business,” said Eric Jorgensen, ADOT MVD Director. “This digital verification process is a more secure and private way to present identification.”
Mobile IDs, including IDs in Apple Wallet and IDs in Google Wallet, as well as the physical MVD-issued ID card can be accepted using the Smart ID Verifier app. Neither MVD nor Apple have access to users’ personal information and neither can see when or where users present their mobile IDs.
“The Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control is excited to partner with the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division in the announcement of Mobile ID Acceptance on iPhone with the Smart ID Verifier app,” said Ben Henry, Department of Liquor Licenses and Control Director. “With this new capability, establishments can securely verify patrons' identification and determine they are of legal drinking age - right on iPhone. This will provide additional ease while maintaining compliance with Arizona Liquor Laws.”
Participation in the acceptance of mobile IDs is optional. Arizonans should continue to carry their physical driver licenses or state ID cards for those retailers who don’t yet accept the digital option.
For additional information about the Smart ID Verifier Ap, please visit azdot.gov/smart-id-verifierapp

To date, the Touchdowns for Teachers program has provided more than $269,000 in grants to more than 538 teachers.

Ready to learn an eggcellent party trick?
Let’s get cracking with this fun physics challenge:
Do you think you can drop an egg into a glass of water without touching the egg or breaking it?
Don’t be chicken—it can be done! And, I’m not yolking around.
Here’s what you need:
• 1 tall drink glass
• Water (enough to almost fill the glass)
Directions:
1. Find a clear workspace free from breakables to set up this experiment—a cleared kitchen island or dining table are ideal.
2. Fill the glass about three-quarters full with water and set on workspace.
3. Set the pie pan on top of the glass in the same orientation as you would use to hold a pie.
4. Place toilet paper roll vertically (up-and-down) on top of pie pan, centered over the glass.
5. Balance an egg on its side on top of the toilet paper roll.
• 1 cardboard toilet paper tube
• 1 metal pie pan
• 1 egg
6. Hold your dominant hand about 8 inches from the side of the pie pan, with your palm facing the set up materials.
7. Quickly and forcefully smack the edge of the pie pan and pull your hand away. The pie pan will travel so be sure no one is standing in its way!
What’s Happening?
Make your observations first—what happened to the egg? When you use your hand to apply force to the pan, energy transfers to the pan, making it move. As the pan travels across the rim of the glass, the pan catches the edge of the toilet paper roll, pulling it out from under the egg. There is very little friction between the shell of the egg and the toilet paper roll, so the only force that really acts on the egg is gravity, causing the egg to fall straight down — safely into the glass of water. Now what? Consider, what would happen if you used a taller paper tube like
a paper towel roll? Try it to find out! Or, take the super egg challenge: Try using a cookie sheet or lunch tray instead of a pie pan and stack multiple glasses underneath. How many eggs can you get safely into their glasses at once?

HI, MY NAME IS… Bismark Annor.
I’VE LIVED IN GLENDALE SINCE 2017 AND I LOVE IT BECAUSE... I’m a runner and I have trails all over my neighborhood.
A TYPICAL DAY IN MY LIFE INCLUDES… Getting up at 5 a.m. for my morning run and then getting ready for work. On the weekends my routine includes cooking breakfast, which is my favorite thing to do, and watching a lot of sports, especially London soccer.
MY FAMILY IS… very active and busy with school. They are passionate about patient care and community involvement.
ONE THING I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT IS… tea & oatmeal. My favorite meal is breakfast and there is nothing like a nice smooth tea any time of day.
MY FAVORITE MOVIE I COULD NEVER GET TIRED OF WATCHING AND WHY… I have three movies on my phone that I will not get tired of: “P.S. I Love You”, “Pride & Prejudice” and “The Notebook.” I especially love “The Notebook” because it gives perspective and shows that love doesn’t stop even if people have different socioeconomic backgrounds or various hurdles.
WHEN I WAS YOUNGER, I WANTED TO BE… a pediatric surgeon. I was obsessed with traveling and doing surgeries to fix cleft lip and palates, especially on Mercy Ships which combines my love of traveling around the world and surgery.
THE SONG I WOULD SING AT KARAOKE NIGHT IS… “The Power of Love” by Celine Dion.
THE ONE PERSON WHO MOTIVATES ME IS… Bill Gates. Seeing how he travels around the world to help developing countries and how he solves problems like clean water is inspiring.
THE LAST THING THAT MADE ME LAUGH OUT LOUD WAS… when England lost the Euro tournament to Spain. It was a painful laugh out loud. We have been saying football is coming home, and it was just at the other side of the English Channel - so close!
THE PERFECT DAY IS… a nice Saturday which includes running 3 miles, watching London football, and a good cup of tea.
MY FAVORITE LOCAL NONPROFIT IS… New Life Center! It’s worth knowing that a little contribution and community engagement with places like NLC helps to make lemonade out of life’s lemons.
MY LIFE IS… busy with work, sports, and being a runner.
THE BEST GIFT I’VE EVER RECEIVED WAS… a ticket to the 2012 Olympics to watch the U.S. basketball team play Brazil in London.
MY DREAM VACATION WOULD BE… a trip to New Zealand to tour farms and go on a helicopter tour of those beautiful mountains.
THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE I’VE EVER RECEIVED IS… be open-minded and embrace all cultures.

Just like any good dish, financial planning starts with gathering the right ingredients. You wouldn’t start making a lasagna without noodles and sauce, right? The same goes for your finances. Your ingredients here are things like income, expenses, savings, debts, and investments. You need to know what you have in your pantry before you can whip up a plan.
But be careful—just like how too much salt can ruin a dish, too much debt can spoil your financial future. The key is balance. You want a little bit of everything in the right proportions. Think of it as making sure you’ve got the right ratio of pasta to sauce—too much of one and the whole thing falls apart.
Once you have your ingredients, it’s time to follow the recipe. This is where the magic happens, where your plan takes shape. But remember, even the best recipes allow for a little improvisation. Sometimes you might need to adjust the heat or add a pinch of spice—just like how your financial plan might need tweaking as life throws you curveballs.
For example, that emergency fund you’ve been building. That’s like your backup stash of spices. You might not need it every day, but when things go wrong, it’s a lifesaver. And just like how you’d taste as you go in the kitchen, it’s
essential to check in on your financial plan regularly. Adjust your investments, revisit your goals, and make sure your financial soufflé isn’t about to collapse.
Finally, it’s time to plate your dish—aka, implement your plan. This is where you get to enjoy the fruits of your labor. But let’s be real, life isn’t a one-course meal. There’s always another dish to prepare, another financial goal to reach. Maybe it’s buying a house, sending your kids to college, or retiring to a beachside bungalow. Each goal is a new recipe, and the process starts again.
But here’s the good news—just like cooking, financial planning gets easier with practice and guidance.
At the end of the day, financial planning isn’t about deprivation—it’s about creating a satisfying, well-balanced life.
Think of it like this: You wouldn’t eat dessert first and then wonder why you’re full before the main course, right? Financial planning helps you enjoy life’s treats without overindulging. So, go ahead—plan, save, invest, and enjoy every bite of life.
And if you need help in the kitchen, remember, that’s what financial advisors like me are here for. We’re the sous chefs of your financial life, making sure your recipe for success turns out just right.
Bon appétit!

With the growth of the greater Phoenix area once again reaching historic levels, Lennar Homes is introducing three unique new communities in one of the fastest growing areas in the region – the Northwest Valley.
Combined, the three new communities, Middle Vistas, Aloravita and Windstone Ranch, offer more than 700 homesites providing prospective new homebuyers with a wide range of home styles and numerous amenities.
“Summer is one of the busiest home buying seasons of the year,” said Alan Jones, Division President of Lennar. “We’ve worked very hard to be ready now to offer new home buyers interested in this area with a wide range of options in both cost and design.”
MIDDLE VISTAS:
As one of the closest communities to the TSMC plant and off I-17 and Dixileta, Middle Vista models are now open for tours after the community’s recent grand opening.
Middle Vistas has experienced high interest from TSMC employees, including several who have already purchased homes in the new development.
Featuring three of Lennar’s most popular models –the Discovery, Horizon and Premier, Middle Vistas prices range from the mid $400,000s to the mid $700,000s. Additionally, the development debuts
Lennar’s newest Next Gen floor plan called the Latitude. Compared to other Next Gen options, the Latitude is a smaller version of the Next Gen home, providing an option for home buyers interested in smaller home sizes. Next Gen floor plans provide a private multi-use suite designed to provide more space for multigenerational families without compromising privacy or independence.
The Premier Collection was just introduced last year by Lennar and is a unique collaboration between Lennar and its many partners that creates a more affordable option that allows a first time home buyer to purchase a home rather than rent. Since its debut, sales of Premier homes have skyrocketed, accounting for about 20 percent of all Lennar sales.
Middle Vistas is a gated community with 228 homesites, two playgrounds with picnic areas and includes homes ranging from 1,232 to 2,649 square feet.
Located in Peoria off Happy Valley Rd. and 83rd Ave., the 295 homesites at Aloravita are near popular hiking trails at West Wing Mountain and just 15 miles from Lake Pleasant Regional Park.
Aloravita models will open soon and offer two collections of new homes – the Signature and Destiny. The Signature collection offers four floor plans with two of those being Next Gen options. Certain floor
plans for the Destiny collection include a garage able to accommodate a recreational vehicle (RV).
“RV garage models have been very popular here, considering the location is so close to Lake Pleasant,” added Jones.
Aloravita homes range from 2,163 to 2,649 square feet and are priced between the upper $500,000s and the mid $800,000s. The community includes amenities such as ramadas, a green belt and hiking trails.
WINDSTONE RANCH:
Windstone Ranch is located east of 163rd Ave. and north of Happy Valley Rd. in Surprise. Sales of the 200 homesites have begun, with models available to view and tour.
This new community offers Lennar’s Premier and Signature home collections. Homes start from the high $300,000s, range from 1,232 to 2,649 square feet and are designed for first-time homebuyers or families who might be considering multigenerational living options.
Windstone’s proximity to the Loop 303 corridor and short traveling distance from the explosive growth of the TSMC plant locale contributes to the area as one of the fastest growing locations and communities in the state. Amenities include a community pool, basketball court, firepit and playground.

Is the summer over yet??? I have had so many people I’ve met from out of state say to me, “You get used to the summers, right?” to which I respond, “I’ve been here pretty much all my life and nope, I’m not used to it yet!” I do appreciate the dry heat after spending a few months in a humid location, so I’ve decided not to complain anymore (and that is a hard agreement to keep some days!) I do look around and love this area. I love the mountains and hiking trails and being close to everything I need - and we all know the sunrises and sunsets are some of the best!
Maybe that’s why we keep getting people moving here from other states. Sometimes we take what we have for granted and get caught up complaining about the heat. Take some time to look around and figure out what you are grateful for. It is a much better way to live and from what I have been reading, you live longer when you are more grateful.
Now, for the real estate news. Over the past month our inventory is right at the same place it was. The amount of homes that have gone under contract has decreased just a bit but not enough that it concerns me right now. We had a drop in interest rates this past month and it has brought out some buyers who want to start looking for homes so we should see the numbers go up for homes under contract soon.
Specific to 85383, the average sales price dropped 3.08% month over month. This is the third month in a row that it has dropped. The good news is that the amount of homes that sold in that same time period went up by 11.5% which shows that this is still a very desirable place to live. I am expecting home sales to increase even
more this next month as the weather is cooling, so we will see if I am right when I write next month’s article.
Even though the number of pending homes is about the same as a month ago, it is lower than two months ago and I know the heat slows things down. Also, the feds have hinted at another drop in interest rates. This should stimulate more buyers to look for homes, as they will be able to afford more. This is good for all homeowners as the demand can increase the value of homes.
Let’s talk about a great newer place to eat in the area. I grew up in the Valley so Valle Luna on Bell Road was a favorite! I visited the new Valle Luna Lunatics not long after they opened and had a great meal! The place was packed at 2:30 in the afternoon on a weekday! We sat at the bar and met some great people who had been there six times in the eight days it had been open - wow! After our meal we could understand why they loved the place. It has a great atmosphere and the service was wonderful! The food and drinks were incredible as well. So if you haven’t been there yet, I would highly recommend a visit. They are on the NE corner of 67th Avenue and Happy Valley Road. Let me know what you think!
If you ever have any questions, please don’t hesitate to give me a call!

Step Into Rock ‘n’ Roll Royalty – The Broadway Musical That Brings
By Tony Beal
“Trap”
A father finds himself on the edge of having his dark secret life exposed while attending a concert with his daughter.
Josh Hartnett (Cooper) shows an astonishing ability to play a true sociopath in this film. Hartnett’s performance matches the story’s twists and turns, keeping you guessing what will happen next. Different from M. Night Shyamalan’s (Writer/Director) previous works, “Trap” is the closest to a Hitchcock-esque feel he has been able to achieve. The film’s unnaturally odd, and at times comedic, world seen through the equally disturbing mind of a dangerous man is absolutely thrilling. Some of the greatest imagery here, which add to the cold and calculating mood, is brought to us through the lens of Sayombhu Mukdeeproom (Director of Photography). The final ten minutes are by far some of the best
performances of everyone involved in this film, or possibly their entire careers. The story is not for everyone, but for those who love Shyamalan’s work, this is very much for you.
“Didi”
The last month of summer told through the eyes of a young man coming of age.
“Didi” shows a side of Taiwanese life rarely seen. Life for a young man on the verge of entering high school is surprisingly relatable for anyone, regardless of background or economic status. Turning thirteen is a rough time for anyone, when changes in your body and mind can run you through the ringer almost daily. Director Sean Wang captures this rollercoaster beautifully through the eyes of Chris, who we follow along a summer ride full of bad decisions and life choices. Joan Chen (Chris) is terrific in his reserved yet clearly personal performance. The film is comedic, filmed in a manner akin to mid-2000s movie genres and will make you laugh, cry and reminisce all at once.
“Cuckoo”
The new home of a young girl and her family hides dark and disturbing secrets.
The underlying story in “Cuckoo” is clear for the viewer, however the way it plays out is not so engaging. The story is hurt by the film’s pacing and lack of development beyond the main characters. Hunter Schafer (Gretchen) and Dan Stevens (Herr Koing) are truly the saving grace in this film. Particularly, Hunter’s ability to portray her deeply alienated feelings and Dan’s calculating nature. Filmed in nothing short of a gorgeous manner, the visuals of the surrounding woods create a feeling of haunting isolation. Tilman Singer (Writer/Director) creates just the right balance between scares and silliness. At times, these aspects may not even fit with the point of the film, yet somehow still work. Overall, I believe this to be an entertaining film; a clear sign of the potential for Tilman Singer’s career.
“Rebel Moon - Part One: The Director’s Cut”
The ultimate vision of Rebel Moon with new scenes and effects.
As I feared, the “improved” director’s cut was as disappointing as the original. Director Zack Snyder’s updated vision promised a “new story.” Instead, what we get is a longer, equally as flawed,
film. With very few new scenes, little is actually added as “unseen” and what is, does nothing to develop the story or characters. What Snyder chose to bring back only added gore and profanities which simply felt like a sad play for shock and awe. “Rebel Moon” is not an accurate portrayal of his abilities, as we know from his previous works, his talent places him at the top of his field.

ARW prix-fixe menus are either $33, $44 or $55 per person (and even per couple, in some cases), depending on the restaurants. To further elevate their experience, diners can take advantage of exclusive ARW wine and cocktail pairings at some establishments for an additional charge. More than 50 restaurants will feature exclusive Tito’s cocktails as part of their ARW menu options.
There is something for every type and taste during Arizona Restaurant Week. The participating restaurants include everything from intimate chef-driven establishments and hidden gems to indulgent five-star fine dining. ARW
features menus that represent a wide array of cuisines, cultures and cooking styles across all price points.
During this 10-day extravaganza, diners have the opportunity to try new restaurants or revisit their favorite eatery again and again, while enjoying a great deal.

Tales of the rich and famous, who flocked to the resort’s inviting environs and attentive staff, abound. Clark Gable once lost his wedding ring on the golf course and was overjoyed when a helpful Biltmore employee found it. Marilyn Monroe loved the stunning Catalina pool so much; she declared it her favorite pool for sunbathing. Harpo Marx honeymooned at the hotel—often holding hands with his bride and skipping through the formal dining room after meals, which both charmed and scandalized his fellow guests.
In 1988, a few guests on the second floor of the main wing reported an “awful ruckus going on” in the piano bar late one evening. The staff gently coaxed the disgruntled guests out of their rooms to peek—they were surprised to see none other than Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., and Liza Minelli were singing an impromptu set, quickly turning grumbling into delight.
These days, a stay at the storied Arizona Biltmore offers an array of five-star amenities. No matter what type of getaway you seek, Arizona Biltmore has something for everyone.
