Medical services on campus include a comprehensive obstetrical and gynecological care including prenatal and postpartum care, labor and delivery services, and a newborn nursery designed to meet the needs of babies with more complicated requirements starting at 34 weeks of age and older.
Surgical services include highly skilled surgeons using the latest technology to perform a variety of surgeries. HonorHealth team members will guide patients through the surgery process from preadmission and testing, to preparing patients about what to expect before, during and after a surgical procedure. They offer education classes for those who are interested. The operating rooms are slightly larger than average, to help make them ultra-flexible. This allows the surgical team to accommodate a greater array of cases in a comfortable environment, with state-of-the-art technology. Whenever possible, surgeons will use minimally invasive surgery to reduce the length of a hospital stay and shorten healing time. Conditions or injuries that don’t require surgery can also be treated by expert care from HonorHealth’s team of doctors, nurses and support staff at Sonoran Crossing Medical Center.
The wide range of continued services include emergency services staffed with residency-trained, boardcertified emergency physicians in a full-service Emergency Department open 24 hours, 7 days a week. A new outpatient building sits on this campus and will include physician offices and additional specialties to serve patients in the north Phoenix and Anthem communities. A hallway connects the outpatient and hospital buildings. This illustrates the unique way they are connecting inpatient and outpatient services, to help them work in close concert with each other, and provide enhanced collaboration and unsurpassed patient care, according to HonorHealth.
The existing outpatient center will continue to offer medical imaging that includes CT scans, MRIs and breast health services featuring 3D mammography.
“No matter what level of care you need, you can get it at HonorHealth,” says Post.

The Joy Bus Charity Expands To Peoria
THE LONGTIME LOCAL CHARITY, THE JOY BUS, RECENTLY ANNOUNCED THAT IT HAS EXPANDED ITS MORE THAN A MEAL DELIVERY PROGRAM TO INCLUDE HOMEBOUND CANCER PATIENTS IN THE PEORIA AREA.
In partnership with Copper Hills Church and the City of Peoria, the Joy Bus and Copper Hills work with medical offices and hospitals to identify patients, and provide freshly prepared, nutritious meals packaged according to food safety guidelines, to be delivered by volunteers to the cancer patients. In addition, Joy Bus assisted in the development of delivery protocols to keep cancer patients safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. Copper Hills Church donated $2,500 to help cover the costs of the meals and is providing volunteers to deliver the meals to homebound cancer patients across the Peoria area. The Joy Bus also works with the Phoenix Cancer Support Network to deliver meals to cancer patients as well.
Mayor Cathy Carlat and the City of Peoria matched the donation made by Copper Hills Church in support of the partnership and the help it provides to the citizens of Peoria.
“The Joy Bus and Copper Hills Church each have an amazing history of uplifting those around them. Now they are coming together and they will be unstoppable in their joint mission to bring lifesaving nourishment to homebound individuals,” says Peoria Mayor Cathy Carlat. “Peoria welcomes this program with open arms and it is my pleasure to support their efforts to elevate the lives of those in need.”
The Joy Bus was founded in 2011 by Jennifer Caraway after her good friend was diagnosed with an aggressive form of ovarian cancer. Starting as a one-woman operation serving two patients, The Joy Bus has grown into an unparalleled service and vital community resource, delivering more than 9,000 meals to homebound cancer patients throughout greater Phoenix. By partnering with charitable local chefs, farmers and more, The Joy Bus delivers delicious, healthful meals, made with fresh, organic and non-GMO produce each week to clients by compassionate volunteers in eco-friendly, chemicalfree packaging. Tucked into each paper bag that has been decorated by a community member is an informational sheet on the nutritional power of the ingredients used and how this will support their fight against cancer and hopefully improve their quality of life in the face of a devastating disease.

The Joy Bus organization also operates The Joy Bus Diner (which is temporarily closed due to the COVID crisis), offering hearty, made-to-order breakfast and lunch fare, where every cent earned is used to support The Joy Bus.

Phoenix Evaluates Potential Improvements to Happy Valley Road
THE CITY OF PHOENIX STREET TRANS-PORTATION DEPARTMENT IS EVALUATING OPPORTUNITIES TO IMPROVE HAPPY VALLEY ROAD FROM 67TH AVENUE TO 35TH AVENUE.
This section of Happy Valley Road is a major arterial roadway that connects commuters to Interstate 17 and supports local and regional residential and commercial activities. At present, this stretch of roadway continuously shifts between two and three travel lanes. Curb, gutter, sidewalk, and raised medians are intermittent. Bike lane widths are varied and, in some places, non-existent. The Initial Preliminary Engineering Report proposes the following improvements: • Roadway widening to accommodate a third travel lane between 62nd and 56th Avenues, and between 51st and 47th Avenues • Raised center medians • Buffered bike lanes • New curb, gutter, and sidewalk where missing • Americans with Disability Act sidewalk ramps • Pavement preservation treatment and markings • Upgraded bus bays • Intersection improvements • Street lighting and traffic signal upgrades • Drainage improvements as needed
The final design process for this project has not been scheduled, but it is anticipated to begin in July 2021. The City of Phoenix plans to apply for federal funding to cover a portion of the construction costs. The timeframe for construction will depend on when federal funding is available.
For additional information, email HappyValleyRoadSTR@phoenix. gov or call Leticia Vargas at 602-5345692. More project details will become
available once design is underway.

Westside Concepts Continues to Grow
By Michelle Talsma Everson
LOCAL ENTREPRENEUR AND BUSINESS OWNER JOEY LUCIDI LOVES HIS COMMUNITY; SO MUCH SO, THAT HE BOTH LIVES HERE AND SPECIALIZES IN CREATING BUSINESSES HERE, TOO.
“I always knew this place was special, but the northwest Peoria area has been out of this world during these difficult times,” Lucidi shares. “The support they have shown is second to none.”

Lucidi is the owner of Westside Concepts, which is home to three Haymaker restaurants, the Social on 83rd, and the newly opened NW Coffee. In addition, Westside Concepts has two more concepts in the works: Fire House Event Center and Cantina Gueros.
“While the concepts are all very different, the goal is the same: to be your neighborhood bar or restaurant where you can feel great about bringing family and friends for any and all occasions,” according to Westside Concepts.
NW Coffee, located at 28615 N. El Mirage Vistancia area since 2008 and I never understood why we didn’t have a little place to hang out; a neighborhood coffee shop of our very own.”
Lucidi says that NW Coffee blends right into the community – capturing the business crowd in the morning and local families toward the afternoon. to have an event space,” Lucidi says. “But eventually this will be a big asset for the Northwest Valley.”
One of his most highly anticipated concepts is Cantina Gueros, which will open later this year. Lucidi says that the restaurant is poised to be a refreshing blend of modern Mexican cuisine fused with new taqueria-inspired flavors like street tacos, elote, and flavorful nachos.
More than six months into the COVID-19 pandemic, Lucidi knows that supporting and building within his local community is more Road, just opened on July 28. “I’ve lived in the
important now than ever.
“With all of our locations needing to be at 50 percent occupancy, it’s definitely hurt us,” Lucidi says. “But we’re grateful to the community and are doing our best considering all of the challenges. We are overly cautious—all locations are adhering and exceeding all government health and safety regulations.”
When it comes to Fire House Event Center, he notes that the space is actually the original Peoria firehouse. His brother had it as a distillery and they repurposed it to be an event space due to the lack of event spaces in the area.
“I know that during COVID-19 is not the best time When asked why he chose to specialize in Northwest Valley and West Valley businesses, Lucidi says, “I live here. It’s beautiful here. This is home.”

Coffee App Highlights Local Shops, Keeps Caffeine Flowing
By Jenna-Lee Neff
LOVE IT OR HATE IT, COFFEE IS A HOT TOPIC WITH A BIG INDUSTRY. ONE RAGING DEBATE IS BETWEEN LOCAL MOM-ANDPOP COFFEE SHOPS OR THE LARGER CORPORATE OWNED
ENTITIES. For one Phoenix company, not only is the answer local, but they are making it easier than ever to support small businesses through an app created solely to direct the hopelessly caffeinated to the nearest local shop. GoLocal, LLC recently released the GoLocalCoffee app, designed to bring users directly to a shop that fits their needs without having to sort through Google results and guess at which one will fit their particular style. “You know what they say, ‘There’s an app for that,’” says GoLocalCoffee creator Clint Van Wuffen. “Well, if you like your coffee from local coffee shops, now there really is an app for that.” For Van Wuffen, the decision to focus on local shops came after six months of data collection and app development, all to make sure coffee lovers could unite somewhere comfortable during work or play. “I always support local,” Van Wuffen says. “With the GoLocalCoffee app, you will have the most up-to-date information on every local coffee shop near you, no matter where you are.” “As an avid coffee lover, I discovered the need for this app while traveling for work several years ago,” he adds. “Unfortunately, the apps I had available often led me to locations of coffee shops no longer in business. It was frustrating. Although the major chains are always nearby, some people don’t want corporate additives, politics and environment. Instead, they prefer the mom and pop atmosphere along with supporting local businesses. This app will allow people to find a local coffee shop no matter where they are,” Van Wuffen continues. In 2018, WalletHub ranked Seattle, Washington and New York City, New York as top two best coffee cities out of the 100 largest cities in America. So how did Arizona stack up? Phoenix ranked in at 38, a full ten spots behind Scottsdale, which ranked in at number 28. Other cities in the state ranked as follows: Chandler (46), Tucson (56), Gilbert (59), Mesa (80), and Glendale (87).
With three rankings in the top 50, it’s no wonder Van Wuffen prefers to keep his coffee routine focused on local, small
business offerings. Once you have downloaded the app and created an account, you can search for locally owned coffee shops up to 20 miles from your current location and view them on an interactive map or convenient list format. Filters let you search for shops based on places good for working, group friendly, kid friendly and dog friendly, and it even offers dietary considerations such as dairy- free, gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan. Other popular filters are types of payments accepted, seating, Wi-Fi, alcohol, and attire options. While more socially conscious filters include minority owned and gender-neutral restrooms.
“If you are looking for a wonderful coffee experience, or maybe you are just tired of the big chains, then you need this app,” Van Wuffen says. “GoLocalCoffee has made it simple and fast.”
According to Van Wuffen, he isn’t stopping at coffee. Later this year, GoLocal, LLC will begin working on more GoLocal apps, including GoLocalRestaurant, GoLocalTacos, GoLocalThai, GoLocalBurgers, GoLocalPizza, and GoLocalBeer.
The GoLocalCoffee app is now available on the Apple App Store and Google Play and comes with a three-day free trial and a $1.99 per year recurring fee.
