Maintenance on Deer Valley Bridge to Affect Traffic in Peoria

THE MARICOPA COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (MCDOT) HAS ANNOUNCED THAT MAINTENANCE WORK IS UNDERWAY ON THE DEER VALLEY BRIDGE, STRETCHING FROM 109TH AVENUE TO 117TH AVENUE.

The project, which is set to continue through June, will see crews applying a protective epoxy sealant to the bridge deck surface to ensure its longevity and safety.

As a result of the construction efforts, motorists traveling through the area will encounter temporary lane restrictions. MCDOT has implemented a flagging operation to maintain one lane of travel, allowing alternating traffic flow at reduced speeds to ensure worker and driver safety.

The work schedule runs Monday to Friday, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and may extend to the weekend as necessary to meet project timelines. However, officials have assured that no construction will occur during holiday periods to ease travel for holiday commuters.

Travelers are advised to exercise caution when driving through the construction zone, to slow down, and to anticipate the need for additional travel time. Motorists should stay alert for the presence of crews and equipment and adhere strictly to all posted traffic control signs.

MCDOT is committed to keeping the public informed and reducing the impact on daily commutes.

City News Loco for Long Ears, Your Local Burro Group

Photo courtesy of American Wild Horse Conservation

WHAT ARE BURROS? Burros are wild donkeys. Arizona has more burros than any other state. This is due to our rich mining history. Once miners no longer needed their donkeys to do the heavy work, they set them free in the desert.

Burros are intelligent and adapt well to their surroundings. They dig water wells in the desert. These wells can go as deep as 6 feet! Native wildlife species such as javelina, deer, various birds, bobcats, and mountain lions have an easier time finding water, thanks to the burros. Even grazing cattle benefit from these desert diggers.

While it may be hard for us modern-day “Valley Dwellers” to relate to Arizona’s old mining days, the descendants of those hard-working donkeys are not too far away. If you have visited Lake Pleasant, there’s a good chance you have seen some burros there. These burros belong to the Lake Pleasant Herd Management Area (HMA). An HMA is designated land for burros or wild horses. HMAs are managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). In accordance with the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971, these animals are federally protected. This means that no one is permitted by law to remove a federal wild burro. This is decided at the sole discretion of BLM.

Some people find burros cute, so they feed them to have a closer look. Others feel bad for burros when they see them in the desert, thinking they have no food, and also decide to feed them. This is not acting in the best interest of the burros or humans. Burros are not domesticated donkeys and are not used to eating human food. To put it simply, human food can cause severe gastrointestinal distress or hoof problems that can lead to death. In addition, burros that are fed by humans will learn to recognize that humans and vehicles are sources of food. This increases their chances of being struck by a vehicle. No one wants to hit an animal on the road, total their vehicle, or have their family injured. It is best to never stop your vehicle on the side of the road or in the desert to feed burros. You may just save a life one day by not feeding burros.

Loco for Long Ears is an educational and awareness group for burros founded in Vistancia. As volunteers, we work alongside the city of Peoria, the American Wild Horse Conservation, the BLM, and rescues in Arizona. We seek to keep burros safe, which in turn

keeps humans safe. We work hard to reduce burro vehicle collisions in Peoria communities and around Lake Pleasant. We strive to improve communication between our neighbors and responsible jurisdictions, including the BLM. We report broken fence lines to the appropriate jurisdictions for repairs and ask for more effective signage. We make phone calls to the city of Peoria and have meetings with legislators. We need more volunteers to help us bray for burros. They cannot speak for themselves so we must do the talking and act.

There is more to helping burros than educating neighbors and preventing burro vehicle collisions in our community. It’s time to face some hard facts. The United States is the third-largest importer of ejiao in the world. We are only behind China and Hong Kong. Ejiao, pronounced uh-gee-yow, is the gelatin made from boiling the skins of burros. It is used in alternative medicine and cosmetics. The global demand for burro skins is approximately eight to 10 million per year! Burros are brutally slaughtered, after being transported long distances without water or food. This isn’t only a problem for the United States. If you follow burros back to their roots in Africa, donkeys are stolen from families to enter the ejiao black market trade.

Imagine the hardships these families endure when they lose their donkeys. These beasts of burden support them in their day-to-day lives and are still

a source of transportation, while also being their companions. When the donkeys are gone, the women and/or children in these families tend to be the ones transporting heavy firewood and fetching water. This often results in lost income for women and children missing school.

How can you help burros? Get involved with your local community. Make time to volunteer with Loco for Long Ears and other groups near you. If you enjoy hiking, perhaps you can keep an eye out for damaged fences. Do you see where signage can be improved on our roads? Speak up. Do you want to help care for burros that survive vehicle collisions? Find a local rescue so you can make a difference. Communicate with your legislators on both the local and federal levels. Push for the support of The Ejiao Act of 2023 in Congress, H.R.6021. It takes a few minutes to ask your legislator to co-sponsor this bill. It would ban the knowing sale or transportation of ejiao. We really can find strength in numbers when we partner with those who care.

To send a message to congress to sponsor the Ejiao Act to stop the donkey skin trade, visit americanwildhorse.org/demand-congress-sponsorejiao-act-stop-donkey-skin-trade.

If you are interested in volunteering with Loco for Long Ears, email lisa.longears@gmail.com. For more information, visit Loco for Long Ears at their Facebook page at https://tinyurl.com/mfrhwms2.

New Developments Set to Enrich Historic Downtown Peoria

IT WAS A CELEBRATION OF HISTORIC DOWNTOWN PEORIA AT A CITY COUNCIL MEETING LAST MONTH, WITH THE UNANIMOUS APPROVAL TO BRING TWO NEW RESTAURANT, RETAIL, AND EVENT VENUE DEVELOPMENTS TO THE AREA.

Caldwell County BBQ at Peoria, a signature barbecue restaurant will open their first West Valley location along Washington Street, in between 83rd Avenue and 83rd Drive.

Meanwhile, Jefferson House will feature restaurants, a bar and retail/event space on the northwest corner of 83rd Avenue and Jefferson Street.

“Revitalizing our downtown is at the

heart of the city council’s vision for growing economic development in Peoria and we are thrilled to attract these quality developments,” says Mayor Jason Beck. “These businesses will create new community gathering opportunities in the area where our city began.”

Mayor Pro Tempore Jennifer Crawford,

who represents the Acacia District that includes the downtown, is excited to welcome the new businesses, “After 30 years of discussion, we are turning ideas into reality. Just like really good BBQ, it takes time to get it right and in working through the development and rental agreements with these outstanding partners, I know we got it right.”

Caldwell’s will be approximately 6,600 square feet, generally located between the Lucidi Distillery and the former downtown hotel site.

“BBQ is a passion for us, and we are excited to be working with the city of Peoria to make our style BBQ available to the wonderful people of West Valley,” says Travis Taylor, Caldwell’s director of operations.

Jefferson House is a partnership between the owners of The Churchill in Phoenix and the owners of the existing downtown Driftwood Coffee establishment.

“Downtown Peoria has been our beloved home for almost a decade, and we couldn't be more thrilled to contribute to the development of this community,” says Lance Linderman, project partner and owner of Driftwood Coffee. “We are incredibly grateful to everyone at the city for their support and for making our vision a reality. Together, we are bringing new opportunities to our unique slice of Peoria, and we couldn't be happier about it.”

The properties for both developments are city-owned and were acquired by the city as part of council’s strategic revitalization vision for the Downtown Peoria area.

Basis Peoria Named Top High School in the Nation by “U.S. News”

Basis Peoria has been named the top high school in the United States by the “U.S. News & World Report” for 2024. Rising from the 12th spot last year and 30th in 2022, the school now leads both the state of Arizona and the nation in the prestigious rankings.

Basis public charter schools have consistently graced the upper echelons of national rankings, and this year is no exception. With 11 Basis schools

landing in the U.S. News top 100 — six of which are among the top 50 — the network has demonstrated a remarkable track record of academic success. Notably, Basis schools held all top eight positions in Arizona's rankings, with Basis Oro Valley near Tucson, Basis Scottsdale, and Basis Tucson North leading the state's entries.

Arizona's dominance in the rankings extends beyond the Basis network.

University High Schools in Tucson and Tolleson also earned spots in the coveted top 100, placing them among the nation’s elite institutions.

The assessment of over 18,000 public high schools this year included metrics such as student proficiency and performance on state-level math, reading, and science assessments. The rankings also considered performance among students from underserved groups, the breadth of the curriculum,

and graduation rates. However, the paramount criterion remains college readiness, determined by students' participation and achievements in Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate examinations.

Basis Peoria, along with Basis Chandler, also shone brightly on the separate STEM schools list, securing the second and third spots respectively in Arizona, with Basis Tucson North and Basis Scottsdale also featuring in the top 10.

WRAP, WANDER, WOW Create a wearable nature bracelet.

Who needs a jewelry store when Mother Nature offers a treasure trove of dazzling gems? This simple yet fascinating activity is all about decking out your wrists with the vibrant colors and interesting textures that you can only find outdoors. It’s a DIY project that brings art, nature, and discovery together in the form of a wearable piece of art!

WHAT YOU NEED

• Clear packing tape (1/2- or 1-inch wide)

• A variety of natural treasures (flowers, leaves, etc.)

GETTING CRAFTY

1. Take a length of tape and wrap it around the wrist with the sticky side facing out, to form a sticky canvas.

2. Embark on a nature walk and scout for small, colorful objects: flowers, leaves, seeds, the more diverse, the better!

3. Decorate your tape bracelet by pressing your collected items onto the sticky surface. As you stick each item to the bracelet, observe and discuss what you see, touch, and smell.

4. Consider themes like a single color range or a burst of multiple hues to personalize your nature bracelet.

THE LEARNING JOURNEY

As your children fill their tape with natural elements, they’ll naturally start to sort, categorize, and admire the diversity in nature. They might even begin asking questions about the flora and fauna that surround them, turning a simple craft into an impromptu biology lesson.

WHY IT’S AWESOME

This activity is a hit for several reasons:

• It’s budget-friendly – all you need is the great outdoors and a strip of tape!

• It’s inclusive and adaptable, making it a perfect fit for children and adults of any age.

• You can do it year-round, with each season bringing its own unique materials to the table.

• It’s sneaky learning – as kids engage in this sensory-rich activity, they’re exploring science, art, math, and more without even realizing it.

So, next time you head out for a stroll in the park or a hike in the woods, or even your own backyard, grab that packing tape and add an extra layer of fun and learning to your journey with nature bracelets.

Community FBI Phoenix Highlights Alarming Rise in “Phantom

Hacker”

Scam Targeting Arizonans

The FBI’s Phoenix division is alerting the public to an increasingly prevalent scam, dubbed the “Phantom Hacker” scam, that has already caused several Arizonans, particularly the elderly, to lose their life savings. This sophisticated fraud involves tricking victims into believing that their bank accounts have been compromised by foreign hackers.

The scam unfolds in three distinct stages, beginning with the victim receiving an unsolicited communication—often a pop-up message or an email—claiming to be from a tech support service. The message urges the victim to call a provided customer support number. Once contact is made, the person on the other end, posing as a tech support agent, instructs the victim to download a remote access program to supposedly rid their computer of viruses.

rencies, and the transfers are often directed to overseas accounts.

The third and final stage involves further manipulation where the scammer, pretending to be from a credible government agency like the Federal Reserve, contacts the victim to finalize the deceit. They may use fake official documents to alleviate any suspicions from the victim.

THE FBI HAS ISSUED ADVICE TO HELP THE PUBLIC PROTECT THEMSELVES FROM FALLING VICTIM TO SUCH SCAMS:

• Avoid clicking on unsolicited pop-ups, links in text messages, and email attachments.

• Do not follow instructions to call phone numbers provided in unsolicited messages.

• Refrain from downloading software or allowing remote access to your computer at the request of an unknown individual.

• Be aware that the U.S. government will never ask for transfers via wire, cryptocurrency, or prepaid gift cards.

Nips Candy Cubes Glazed Pecans

This access allows the scammer to conduct a fake virus scan and falsely claim that the victim’s computer is at imminent risk of being hacked. The scammer then uses this pretense to persuade the victim to log into their bank accounts under the guise of securing them, thereby obtaining information about where the victim’s funds are stored.

This scam is part of a broader trend of tech support scams that have cost victims across the nation more than $500 million since 2023. The FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) is an available resource where victims can report these scams.

In the second phase, another scammer posing as a representative from the victim’s bank informs them that their accounts have been breached by a foreign hacker. The victims are then advised to transfer their funds into a “safe” thirdparty account to protect their savings. The method of transfer suggested usually involves wire transfers, cash, or cryptocur-

Timely reporting increases the chances of recovering lost funds and can help prevent further victimization. For those who suspect they might be a target of the “Phantom Hacker” scam or similar frauds, it is crucial to report the incident immediately to local law enforcement and the FBI via IC3 at ic3.gov.

Cancer Support Community Arizona (CSCAZ), a pivotal resource in the fight against cancer, celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Established in 1999, the nonprofit has dedicated itself to providing essential, cost-free support services to cancer patients and their families across Arizona.

“Cancer Support Community Arizona is proud to celebrate 25 years of service,” says CEO of Cancer Support Community Arizona Julie Dunnigan. “We are committed to uplifting those impacted by cancer through an innovative approach; by providing support, fostering compassionate communities, and breaking down barriers to care.”

In its milestone year, CSCAZ has revamped its offerings to meet the evolving needs of the community.

Acknowledging that Arizona will see over 40,000 new cancer diagnoses this year, CSCAZ has expanded its inperson support options. These include weekly support groups, educational seminars, and wellness activities. This year saw the launch of Rise & Recharge, a monthly series of seminarstyle workshops aimed at empowering those affected by cancer.

Dunnigan, who took over as CEO in August 2023, brings over 15 years of leadership experience in the nonprofit sector to her role. Her firsthand experience with cancer deeply informs her approach, emphasizing evidencebased and holistic support during all phases of the cancer journey.

In the past year alone, CSCAZ has assisted nearly 2,000 individuals. Looking forward, the organization is focusing on extending its reach to underserved populations. This includes initiatives tailored to Native American communities, developed in collaboration with the NAU/UA Native American Prevention teams, and programs for the Latino community,

offering resources and support in Spanish.

CSCAZ is also planning new fundraising events and community celebrations this year to bolster awareness and support for its diverse programs and services.

Peoria’s Westview Woodcraft & Design Transforms Homes

Photos courtesy of Westview Woodcraft & Design

Westview Woodcraft & Design, led by the skilled husbandand-wife team of Doug and Jennifer Schmidt, is redefining interior spaces across the Valley with masterful woodwork and custom design services. With over 30 years of finish carpentry experience, Doug brings an artisan’s touch to every project, specializing in features like wainscoting, crown molding, shiplap, and accent walls.

The Schmidts have carved a niche in transforming ordinary rooms into stunning showcases, surprising customers with the speed and transformative power of their services. “We’ve met so many great people in the community,” Jennifer says, reflecting on the relationships they’ve built through their craft. Most of their projects are concentrated in the Vistancia area, though their services extend Valley wide, offering versatile options to accommodate various budgets.

One of Westview’s hallmark services is the creation of accent walls, a popular choice for adding a distinct touch to any room. Before embarking on such a project, the Schmidts advise clients to consider the wall’s purpose—whether to serve as a striking focal point or simply to introduce a splash of color. Ideal locations for an accent wall include prominent positions beside mirrors, windows, or fireplaces, areas where the addition can dramatically enhance the room’s symmetry and aesthetic appeal.

Choosing the right color or texture for an accent wall can significantly influence the ambiance of a space, whether it’s creating a calm retreat, a vibrant energy, or a playful atmosphere. “Accent walls are not only visually appealing but also budgetfriendly, making them a perfect solution for enhancing any space without a hefty price tag,” says Jennifer.

Westview Woodcraft & Design prides itself on offering customization that caters to the unique style and needs of each client, ensuring that every installation is both beautiful and functional. Neighbors Hello Neighbor!

HI, MY NAME IS… Cheri’ Valentino. I’m of Italian descent but my first name is French. I’m named after my mom’s best friend in high school.

I’VE LIVED IN THE AREA FOR 30 YEARS AND I LOVE IT BECAUSE… it is my dream property where I have space to have horses. It has been my home for the last 30 years, but I grew up in a small town in Oregon.

A TYPICAL DAY IN MY LIFE INCLUDES… conducting investigations and leading my growing business, Valentino Signature Services (valentinosignatureservices.com) in which I do all types of investigations, training, process serving, and consulting for clients in the public and

private sector. I’m passionate about helping women in need and serve as an advocate for them. When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with family, friends, and reflecting on what’s truly important in life.

MY FAMILY IS… my rock, my inspiration, and my joy. I couldn’t imagine my life without them. They are my world and mean everything to me and I’ve become a better person because of them.

ONE THING I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT IS… being in the company of other strong, independent women. My go-to motivation is a quote inspired by Joan of Arc: “I am not afraid. I was born to do this.” I adore the history behind the quote, as it gives me the inspiration of how to clear the route that leads to where I need to go.

MY FAVORITE MOVIE I COULD NEVER GET TIRED OF WATCHING AND WHY IS… “A Haunting in Venice”(2023). It speaks to my passion for investigations and solving mysteries, my admiration for mystery writer Agatha Christie and for celebrated detective Hercule Poirot, as he’s recruited to solve fascinating cases. I also happen to love Halloween and movies that tie with my Italian heritage.

WHEN I WAS YOUNGER, I WANTED TO BE… a lawyer. But I quickly became obsessed with being a detective.

THE SONG I WOULD SING AT KARAOKE NIGHT IS… I leave karaoke to those with great singing voices. But

if I was a karaoke singer, I’d sing “Road Less Traveled” by Lauren Alaina or Katy Perry’s “Firework.”

THE ONE PERSON WHO MOTIVATES ME IS… I don’t think I can name just one! I live my life by always remembering and following my core values of purpose, passion, and integrity. My closest friends and mentors mirror these values, inspiring and motivating me every day.

THE LAST THING THAT MADE ME LAUGH OUT LOUD WAS… comic Adam Ferrara. I love comedy shows and I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time. Laughter is like medicine to the soul!

MY PERFECT DAY IS… working with clients or doing anything outdoors. On the weekends, I like to ride horses, go target shooting, or play a few games of pool with friends.

MY FAVORITE LOCAL NONPROFIT IS… hard to choose! There are so many great nonprofit organizations in Arizona. I’ve worked with Harvest Compassion Center, Arizona Helping Hands, the Scottsdale Chamber, the Greater Phoenix Chamber, as well as Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust because of the invaluable resources, programs, and support it provides for cancer patients. I am a breast cancer survivor! I am also a huge supporter of first responders and sit on several boards and commissions with the Scottsdale Police Department.

MY LIFE IS… busy and satisfying.

THE BEST GIFT I’VE EVER RECEIVED WAS… my children. They keep me grounded and they have a value beyond any monetary price. I think the best gifts you can give someone else is your presence, your love and compassion, and your belief in them.

MY DREAM VACATION WOULD BE… spending time in Italy, connecting with my roots and taking in my heritage. Or a beach vacation, anywhere tropical makes me happy.

THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE I’VE EVER RECEIVED IS… trust and follow your intuition!

Real Estate

Mountain Trails to Market Trends

Realtor Frank May offers an inside look at developments on the real estate front.

There’s something about this time of year that just feels right. Maybe it’s the warmth, enough to delight without overwhelming us—though we know the real heat is just around the corner! The mountains beckon with their trails that are utterly inviting in the crisp early morning and pleasantly cool evenings. If you’ve yet to explore these paths, I couldn’t recommend it more. It’s the perfect blend of vigorous exercise, the fresh outdoors, and the occasional thrilling glimpse of wildlife—coyotes are a personal favorite, though I’ll pass on the rattlesnakes with a smile!

In the realm of real estate, we’ve been kept on our toes by the Fed’s hints at rate reductions. The close of last year brought talk of rate cuts—up to four, they said—yet we’ve only seen them inch upwards. But here’s the twist: Sales have been climbing each month, a promising trend for the Valley.

THE MLS LANDSCAPE

Observing the MLS data, it’s uplifting to see a 13% surge in sales from one month to the next. Not to mention, the average sale price has risen by 2.8%, painting a picture of a robust market. Homes are also finding their new owners a bit quicker, with the average days on market dipping from 66 to 63 days—a home now spends just a smidge over two months before it’s snapped up.

THE 85383 SNAPSHOT

In our niche of 85383, we’ve witnessed a slight dip in average sale prices over the past couple of months. Yet, our prices still stand $141,359 above the MLS average, despite a 2.18% month-overmonth decrease. Sales, however, are another story, with a whopping 19.7% leap—outpacing the broader market. And homes here are selling faster, too, with the average days on market dropping from 62 to 50 days.

WHY EVERYONE’S MOVING HERE

It’s no secret—we’re situated in one of the most sought-after locales. Word has been spreading about our stunning landscapes, leisurely lake life, exemplary schools, and the incredible shops and eateries. On the culinary front, the anticipation is building for In-N-Out’s grand opening. Plus, there’s the new Barley & Smoke speakeasy by Peoria Artisan Brewery— don’t miss out on securing a reservation for a truly memorable night out.

As always, I would love to help when you are ready for a move. If you would like to meet and go over the market for your home, give me a call. I would love to do it! Meeting new people is one of the best perks of what I do!

Entertainment Movie Reviews and Upcoming Release Dates

IN THEATERS

“Monkey Man”

Faith and vengeance collide as a man carries out his plot through modern day India.

Dev Patel has long proven his capabilities as a leading actor, but “Monkey Man” showcases his potential in an ambitious debut. At times, that ambition may overshadow what is achievable, both in action sequences and thematic complexity. The politics are somewhat muddled in their connection to India’s actual situation, although it’s clear Patel has noble intentions regarding the corruption intertwined with religion. Occasionally, the action becomes overly chaotic. Nevertheless, it’s difficult not to be charmed by the sheer delight of the cast’s commitment and the effort evident throughout the film. “Monkey Man” is a visually stunning movie that echoes the peak era of Jackie Chan—complete with bonecrunching stunts and spectacular falls.

“Love Lies Bleeding”

A bodybuilder and a gym employee form a relationship as they battle for their freedom against a local cult.

Sweat, blood, and sex are the foundational elements of Rose Glass’ humorously bizarre sophomore film, which pushes the envelope entirely. As expected, Kristen Stewart, Ed Harris, and the rest of the cast deliver top-tier performances in atypical roles. However, it’s Katy O’Brien who truly stands out with a nuanced and compelling portrayal that is both empathetic and frightening. The characters are driven to their most desperate and lowest points, yet despite the extreme circumstances, they retain a deeply human essence. The film is visually stunning, featuring gorgeously sickly-sweet imagery that conjures a somewhat fairytale vibe. For those who appreciate such a unique cinematic experience, this film will be a delight.

“The First Omen”

A nun’s faith is put to the test when she realizes a conspiracy of evil is afoot.

The makers of “The First Omen” spared

no effort, which is commendable for a belated prequel to a franchise that arguably should not have been extended. It unfolds slowly, featuring potent imagery and strong performances, particularly from Nell Tiger Free and Ralph Ineson. Unfortunately, its slow pace does not allow adequate time to develop several characters, who vanish for extended periods. The exploration of women’s autonomy and religion’s influence in the modern world presents an intriguing theme that lends the film a distinct identity. However, these aspects are diminished by the film’s prequel nature, preventing it from reaching its full potential. While it is ambitious for a studio horror film, especially in terms of scares and gore, it falls short of fully achieving its objectives.

ON NETFLIX

“Shirley”

A look at Shirley Chisholm’s unprecedented run for president in 1972.

Regina King is so compelling as the

title character that it’s difficult to truly dislike the movie despite its shortcomings beyond her performance. Nevertheless, one cannot help but wish that such an incredible figure were portrayed in a film that is bolder and more incisive in its storytelling. The film struggles initially by rapidly glossing over Chisholm’s tenure in Congress and fails to thoroughly explore the conflicts related to her political motivations and her faith, rendering a somewhat two-dimensional portrayal. Perhaps the intention was to celebrate her and her achievements; however, it still feels disappointing. This is particularly true given the filmmaking style, which is reminiscent of television and does not authentically represent the 1970s era.

Getaway

Set on three pristine, rugged acres overlooking arguably the most striking, 360-degree view in all of Sedona and the protected preserve of Coconino National Forest, the breathtaking natural beauty of Red Rock Country is on full display at Ambiente Sedona, the city’s newest and most luxurious stay, dining, and wellness destination.

Debuting last year as the first of its kind in North America, the boutique landscape hotel boasts a distinctive design rooted in a profound reverence for the environment, with a focus on sustainable methods and organic, modern architecture that complements the surrounding topography and minimizes the impact on the land to seamlessly integrate into Sedona’s geological wonderland.

Upon arrival, guests are escorted by a personal valet to check in, relax in the lounge, and enjoy a complimentary glass of sparkling wine before hopping into an electric vehicle for a tour of the property before arriving at their own private Atrium, where the peaceful sound of gently flowing water is ever-present thanks to the natural waterways that snake between each structure.

Elevated above the ground by steel piers and constructed using floor-toceiling, bronze-tinted glass, and mattecharcoal and rusted metal, Ambiente’s 40 cubed-shaped Atriums reflect elegant minimalism from the outside, while contemporary, elemental interiors embody a lavish and tranquil hideaway through bespoke designed wallpaper, liveedge wood furnishings, moody lighting, cozy seating, and Earth-toned textiles.

While all Atriums offer the same 576-square foot, king accommodations, the dramatic 360-degree panoramic views vary considerably as each Atrium has been expertly placed to maximize view corridors, whether that’s north to the surrounding Coconino National Forest or east and south to the Steamboat, Chimney, Coffee Pot, and Snoopy red rock formations. All Atriums also feature their own private rooftop decks with a secure staircase for the ultimate sunbathing and stargazing experience. Lounge seating, a roaring firepit, and a daybed, comfortable enough for sleeping alfresco, serve as a remote locale perched between the rugged terrain below and bright, beaming stars above thanks to the city of Sedona’s Dark Sky Association.

At the center of the property, a pool and spa is positioned contiguous to an open-air bar and poolside lounge that features the hotel’s signature restaurant, Forty1, helmed by Executive Chef Dave Duncan, a Northern Arizona native with an endearing appreciation for the Verde Valley and a steadfast commitment to showcasing its abundance through cuisine. Open to the public, Forty1 houses a full-service kitchen serving breakfast and dinner daily, as well as an indoor/outdoor bar that glows like a gemstone after sunset. Directly adjacent to the restaurant, an elevated deck features fire pits, an oversized chef’s table for large groups or private events, and cozy lounge seating; as well as a custom Airstream that has been transformed and reimagined into The Drifter, a separate culinary venue serving lunch and poolside fare daily.

Situated within the hotel’s two-story, biophilic lobby building is Velvet, an intimate, three-room spa where

ancient practices blend with innovative technologies to offer an unparalleled wellness experience. Specializing in treatments that integrate regionally sourced ingredients, Velvet’s offerings embody the transformative, healing and even mystical properties for which Sedona is widely revered, to improve health and well-being for guests.

With direct access to more than 200 miles of hiking and biking trails in Sedona as well as premier rock climbing, outdoor adventure and recreational activities, there’s no need for an onsite fitness

center. Instead, the hotel encourages guests to explore the outdoors through its exclusive, on-site access to the Adobe Jack Trail system, where they can enjoy guided tours of the moderate 1.7-mile hike that connects to an additional seven miles of trails renowned for the picturesque scenery displayed along the way.

Ambiente is an adults-only hotel welcoming guests 18 years and older. Two Atriums are ADA compliant, making the hotel accessible to guests of all abilities. To book an upcoming stay or learn more, visit ambientesedona.com.
