LOCAL FAVORITE GOLF CLUB, QUINTERO, CELEBRATING 20 YEARS

QUINTERO GOLF CLUB – RANKED AS THE NUMBER ONE PUBLIC GOLF COURSE IN ARIZONA BY GOLF DIGEST – IS EXCITED TO CELEBRATE TWO DECADES OF UNFORGETTABLE GOLF EXPERIENCES IN 2020. The Rees Jones design sits on 828 acres with a layout that is undeniably difficult and is nestled in the serene foothills of Peoria, Arizona surrounded by the Hieroglyphic Mountains.

The once exclusive, invite only luxury golf club, opened in 2000 as Quintero Golf and Country Club. After a few years, the original and former owner had trouble grappling the steep costs as the economy plummeted, and the course was bought in 2011 by a Scottsdale company, Infinity Capital Golf Resources LLC, in efforts to save the floundering property.

To rake the course out of the bunkers, new management initiated dynamic pricing, opened it to the public, invested in advanced golf technology and more. In just a couple years, the picturesque property became a raving success receiving recognition as one of the best and most challenging courses in the nation. The nationally ranked golf course attracts notable athletes and public figures from far and wide, including Roy Green, Marcus Allen, Tom Hoge, and Ricky Barns to conquer the beautiful beast.

The course also recently won several spots in Arizona Foothills’ “Best In Sports 2019” list, including Best 19th Hole, Best Public Course, and Most Scenic Course.

LOOP 101 PIMA FREEWAY THE ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION HAS INITIATED A PROJECT TO WIDEN AND IMPROVE THE LOOP 101 (PIMA FREEWAY) FROM INTERSTATE 17 IN PHOENIX EAST TO PIMA ROAD IN SCOTTSDALE. Improvements are needed to address growing traffic demands in the northeast Valley and relieve traffic congestion on the Loop 101 during the morning and evening peak travel periods.

MAJOR ELEMENTS OF THIS PROJECT INCLUDE:

• Adding one general purpose lane in each direction between I-17 and Pima Road IMPROVEMENT PROJECT • Adding an auxiliary lane in each direction between 7th Street and Cave Creek Road • Constructing a new overpass structure at the future Miller Road alignment • Modifying freeway ramps and frontage road connections at 11 interchanges

Additional components include construction of noise or retaining walls where warranted, improvements to drainage and new rubberized asphalt resurfacing and pavement markings.

This project is utilizing the “design-build” (D/B) method of delivery to help reduce the overall project timeline. This delivery method differs from the more traditional “design-bid-build” approach in which the project is completed in two phases (designed and then constructed).

The D/B method involves pairing civil engineering firms with construction contractors to create “design builders” who work synergistically from beginning to end. This creates more opportunities for innovation and can reduce costs. The D/B method of delivery is most advantageous when transportation improvements are needed immediately to reduce high traffic volume or chronic congestion. To learn more about the D/B project delivery method, visit https://azdot.gov/node/7485

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW FROM THE MVD IN 2020

2020 WILL USHER IN A NEW WAY FOR THE ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION MOTOR VEHICLE DIVISION CUSTOMERS TO GET LICENSE PLATES, REGISTRATION TABS AND MANY DOCUMENTS SUCH AS VEHICLE TITLES. Beginning in January, customers will receive these items through the U.S. Mail and will no longer be able to obtain them at an MVD or Authorized Third Party office. Customers should make sure their address is current and complete with the U.S. Postal Service and MVD.

“The MVD needs to be well-positioned for the growth of e-commerce,” said MVD Stakeholder Relations Manager Jennifer Bowser Richards. “Distributing items such as license plates, tabs, title work and other documents allows us to prepare for the growing demand for fulfilling customer orders through the mail as the MVD continues to increase

By Councilmember Bridget Binsbacher

FOR MOST LIVING IN THE MESQUITE DISTRICT, HAPPY VALLEY ROAD IS THE MAIN CORRIDOR WE USE TO ACCESS OUR NEIGHBORHOODS, SHOPPING CENTERS, PARKS, SCHOOLS AND MORE. The current work being performed on the road is frustrating, especially for those like myself who drive this stretch every single day. However I guarantee the end result will be worth the headaches. Recently, a few specific concerns were brought to my attention and subsequently addressed by the city. It quickly became apparent that daytime road restrictions were not feasible given the varied schedules of traffic. City staff has been working closely with contractors to figure out a solution and a balance between traffic needs and contractor safety. Recently, the contractor has agreed to begin working nights as often as possible. There will still be the number of services available online, anytime.”

All registration documents and license plate tabs, including those issued at MVD self-service kiosks will be mailed. When customers renew, their record is updated instantly and a receipt is proof of registration.

For customers getting a license plate, this change will also mean the plate number will be entered into the customer’s service file and the temporary plate issued at the office will have the same number as the permanent plate being mailed.

Customers who purchase Off-Highway Vehicle decals the same day they plan to use them at a recreational area will not receive the decal at the office, but will get a receipt that should be kept with them to prove the decals have been purchased. a need for periodic daytime closures for asphalt patching and other items when necessary - but moving forward a majority of the work will be completed at night, alleviating the backups caused by daytime restrictions. Additionally, it was brought to my attention that excessive speeding is occurring throughout the construction zone. I recently had a discussion with the Police Commander regarding this topic. His team of officers is aware of the situation and have been balancing enforcement of the area with calls for service. The city’s Traffic Services Unit will work on a specific plan for the area and continue to monitor the roadway. The city is taking every step it can to reduce the impact created by this major roadway improvement. If you have any specific concerns or questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to my office. There is also a project hotline available for residents at 602-535-6250. In the future, more vehicle titles will transition to an electronic process. Currently, a limited number of title transfers such as one-owner to oneowner transfers of Arizona-registered vehicles can already be done entirely online through AZ MVD Now, which is available through ServiceArizona. com.

Another important reminder from the MVD: There are less than 200 business days left until October 1, 2020, and the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division reminds customers to get the AZ Travel ID to make it through TSA airport checkpoints starting on that date.

MVD Stakeholder Relations Manager Jennifer Bowser Richards said, “We don’t want to see travel plans ruined because flyers don’t have an ID that the TSA will accept.” In order to get the AZ Travel ID, customers need to bring in a document such as a birth certificate or valid U.S. Passport to prove identity and a second document with their Social Security number.

Finally, two pieces of documentation proving Arizona residency such as a utility bill, bank statement or something similar with a current name and physical address (not a P.O. Box) are also needed.

The AZ Travel ID replaces the current license or ID and re-sets the expiration date. The cost is $25, and under federal law, it is valid for eight years.

Customers should begin the application process at aztravelid.com. They can make an appointment at servicearizona.com to visit an MVD office, or visit an Authorized Third Party office

RUSSO AND STEELE CELEBRATES 20TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR

CELEBRATING ITS 20TH YEAR AS THE MOST EXCITING COLLECTOR CAR AUCTION IN THE WORLD, RUSSO AND STEELE RETURNS HOME TO SCOTTSDALE ON JANUARY 15 AT THE EPICENTER OF ARIZONA CAR WEEK JUST SOUTH OF THE NORTH 101 FREEWAY AND SCOTTSDALE ROAD. One of the nation’s premier collectorcar auction houses, Russo and Steele will provide hundreds of top-quality collector cars for a variety of buyers at their new site. Featuring the equivalent of five football fields of tents with easy access off the Scottsdale Road exit, acres of contiguous and close proximity parking will greet attendees along with valet parking directly at the main entrance.

Russo and Steele Collector Automobile Auctions is thrilled to offer an ultra-rare 1985 Lamborghini Countach QV Downdraft at its 2020 auction. Known as the most powerful Countach variant ever built, this particular model offers 455 bhp and was used as a factory press car and was the photo subject of the Downdraft brochure distributed at the 1985 Geneva Salon.

Fewer than 1/3 of all Countach models built were Downdraft variants and this model is without question the very best example of this variant to ever be presented at public auction anywhere. It is 100 percent fully restored by California-based marque specialists at a cost of almost $300,000 to exact original specifications down to brand new Pirelli P7s and Ansa Sports Exhaust, which are all period-correct. It even comes with original books and all tools complete.

Built in February 1985 in Iconic Bianco Polo Park with Rosso livery, this Countach Downdraft was the very first to be imported into the United States by Al Copeland, car enthusiast and multi-race winning offshore boat racer, and owner of Popeyes Chicken nationwide restaurants. It was kept in Copeland’s New Orleans car museum for 15 years resulting in just 9,750 miles on the odometer.

“This is probably the most beautiful example of a Countach Downdraft you will see anywhere,” said Drew Alcazar, President and CEO of Russo and Steele. “Even by today’s standards the car is quite powerful and even though it’s almost 35 years old, it’s design is timeless and the stuff of supercar fantasy.”

MAG AUCTIONS REVS UP WEST VALLEY CAR COLLECTORS

By Molly Cerreta Smith

SCOTTSDALE MAY HAVE BARRETT-JACKSON AND RUSSO AND STEELE CAR AUCTIONS, BUT PEORIA IS PROUDLY HOSTING THE MAG AUCTIONS COLLECTOR CAR AUCTION ON FRIDAY. JANUARY 10 THROUGH SUNDAY, JANUARY 12. The event takes place from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. all three days at the Peoria Sports Complex located at 16101 N. 83rd Avenue and everyone from car collectors and enthusiasts to the general public (including the little ones!) are welcome to come and peruse the stunning selection and wide variety of collector cars.

A collector car auction group with a focus on muscle cars, street rods, classic cars, vintage cars, and leading automobile products, Motorsport Auction Group’s events are geared towards both longtime car enthusiasts and newcomers to the car collector hobby that are looking to buy and sell cars and memorabilia. Bidders, consignors, vendors and sponsors are invited to join MAG’s car auctions across the country, including the upcoming Peoria event.

While buying can be done online or over the phone, Mag Auctions says that attending an auction in person is definitely the best and most exciting way to purchase a collectable automobile. Bidders must have a valid driver’s license or passport, purchase a Bidder’s Badge and complete a Bidder’s contract. Attending the event ensures bidders plenty of time to peruse potential purchases and to thoroughly review the vehicle’s condition inside and out for themselves. In many cases, the owner is online and available to talk with bidders to discuss the history and condition of the vehicle as well as answer any other questions. Bidders may take home their purchases on the same auction day.

Aside from the auction itself, a multitude of exhibitors will be onsite featuring products and services designed for the audience of car collector buyers and sellers, auto enthusiasts as well as the general public. MAG Auctions also makes consigning easy and convenient, and can be done in a number of ways.

Vehicle photos and details along with their lot numbers are currently available on the website at www.motorsportauctiongroup.com/auction/. Auction items include a variety of collector vehicles from across the eras including a 1934 Pierce Arrow
