THE SOUTHBOUND LOOP 101 (PIMA FREEWAY) ON-RAMP AT FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT BOULEVARD CLOSED MONDAY, AUG. 19, AND WILL REMAIN CLOSED FOR APPROXIMATELY 60 DAYS. According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, the ramp will be reconstructed as part of the ongoing freeway widening project in north Scottsdale.
Drivers who normally would use the ramp should plan on using an alternate route, including entering southbound Loop 101 via the on-ramp at Shea Boulevard.
ADOT asks Loop 101 drivers in the area to allow extra travel time, slow down and to continue to provide room for traffic entering the freeway while crews work on the widening project.
The $108 million Pima Freeway Improvement Project between Shea Boulevard and Princess Drive/Pima Road started in January.
Over the course of the two-year Loop 101 project, on- and off-ramps between Shea Boulevard and Pima Road/Princess Drive are being reconstructed to fit with the wider freeway. The entire project is scheduled for completion in early 2026.
ADOT is adding one lane in each direction along 4.5 miles of the Pima Freeway north of Shea Boulevard. Other improvements include converting the Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard interchange to a diamond configuration and installing new signs, traffic signals and lighting.
The Loop 101 widening project is funded in part by Proposition 400, a dedicated half-cent sales tax approved by Maricopa County voters in 2004. The project is scheduled under the Regional Transportation Plan managed by the Maricopa Association of Governments, which serves as the metropolitan planning organization for the Greater Phoenix region.
Real-time highway conditions are available on ADOT’s Arizona Traveler Information site at az511. gov, the az511 app (download for Apple or Android devices) or by calling 511.
Warning to Arizonans of Cryptocurrency Scams
ATTORNEY GENERAL KRIS MAYES IS AGAIN WARNING ARIZONANS TO BE ON HIGH ALERT FOR CRYPTOCURRENCY SCAMS TARGETING VULNERABLE INDIVIDUALS, PARTICULARLY SENIOR CITIZENS.
"Scammers are taking advantage of the lack of familiarity on how cryptocurrency works to scam Arizonans out of their hard-earned money,” said Attorney General Mayes. “My office is committed to ensuring that all Arizonans are informed and protected against these emerging threats. I urge Arizonans to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to our office immediately."
Scammers are always finding new ways to steal your money using cryptocurrency. Some common scams to watch out for:
INVESTMENT SCAMS:
Scammers may contact you out of the blue on social media pretending to be an investment manager. The scammer may also pose as a love interest on a dating app who wants to help you invest your money. These scammers will promise a high-rate of return with “zero-risk” as long as you buy cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin and transfer it to the scammer’s account.
BUSINESS, GOVERNMENT OR JOB IMPERSONATOR SCAMS:
In a business, government, or job impersonator scam, the scammer pretends to be someone you trust to convince you to send them money by buying and sending cryptocurrency. They may claim to have seen fraud on your accounts and that your money is at risk and to fix it you’ll need to buy cryptocurrency and send it to them. They might also say there’s a legal problem, that you owe money, or your accounts or benefits are frozen as part of an investigation. They tell you to solve the problem or protect your money by buying cryptocurrency. These are red flags that indicate a scam.
BLACKMAIL SCAMS:
Scammers might send emails or U.S. mail to your home saying they
have embarrassing or compromising photos, videos, or personal information about you. Then, they threaten to make it public unless you pay them in cryptocurrency. Don’t do it. This is blackmail and a criminal extortion attempt. Report it to law enforcement immediately.
TIPS TO AVOID FALLING VICTIM TO SCAMS:
Verify Information: Before taking any actions, hang up, and independently verify the legitimacy of the caller by directly contacting the organization they claim to represent. Never use the contact details they provide — call whoever they claim to represent directly. Scammers can mask numbers making it appear that a legitimate company or organization is calling you.
Be Skeptical: Always be skeptical of unsolicited calls, especially those asking for immediate action involving financial transactions. A government agency will never ask you to remove money from your accounts to send via bitcoin, wire transfer or gift cards.
Only Scammers Demand Payment in Cryptocurrency: No legitimate business is going to demand you send cryptocurrency in advance – not to
buy something, and not to protect your money. That’s always a scam.
Secure Your Personal Information: Never share personal information like your social security number, bank account details, or passwords over the phone with unknown callers or give anyone real-time access to your computer. Never click on a link from an unexpected text, email, or social media message, even if it seems to come from a company you know.
Consult Trusted Individuals: Always consult with a trusted family member or friend before making any substantial financial decisions, especially those involving digital currencies like bitcoin.
Report Suspicious Activity: If something feels off, it probably is. Report the call to local law enforcement and file a complaint with the Arizona Attorney General’s Office.
If you believe you or someone you know has been the victim of fraud file a consumer complaint by visiting azag. gov/consumer. If you believe you have been the victim of identity theft, get help from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) by visiting identitytheft.gov or by calling 877-438-4338.

City News Shake it Up and Tap That AZ AZ Lemonade Stand Celebrates
WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU LEMONS, SHAKE IT UP AND TAP THAT AZ! That’s exactly what co-founders Tom D’Ambrosio and Kyle Hollenbeck, your local boys of Aioli Burger fame, did when they created AZ Lemonade Stand in 2020. With Lemonade as Arizona’s official state drink and National Lemonade Day on August 20th, AZ Lemonade Stand is on a mission to establish an official Lemonade Day in Arizona as they celebrate their most incredible year of growth yet in 2024.
In just two short years, AZ Lemonade Stand has turned lemons into lemonade as this local brand has exploded in popularity. With more than a decade of experience in the food and beverage industry, Tom and Kyle have launched nearly a

dozen food truck concepts, two commercial kitchen commissaries, three restaurant locations, and most recently, became the official concessions partner of the Phoenix Rising. Their focus on expansion through statewide distribution, community fundraising, sponsorship, and guerrilla marketing has paid off spectacularly.
“I’m thrilled and proud of the success we’ve had with AZ Lemonade Stand over the past two years, and I can’t wait to see where the next two will take us,” said Tom D’Ambrosio, co-founder of AZ Lemonade Stand.
After two years of perfecting their concept and recipes, AZ Lemonade Stand launched to the public in August 2022. By the end of 2022, they had sold 1,698 jars
of lemonade, mainly through their food trucks and at Aioli Gourmet Burgers. By the end of 2023, total sales skyrocketed to 489,000 jars! Today, at the two-year mark, AZ Lemonade Stand is on track to finish 2024 with an astounding 1 million jars sold, with their products now available in over 1,000 retail locations across Arizona.
Earlier this year, AZ Lemonade Stand signed a distribution deal with Hensley Beverage Company, further accelerating their brand growth across Arizona.
“We have never seen organic growth like this from a new brand. Arizona was ready to embrace a new product like this” said Ferris Garel, Brand Manager Non-Alc, Hensley Beverage Company.
Mission Microchip
MARICOPA COUNTY ANIMAL CARE & CONTROL (MCACC) IS EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE ITS MISSION MICROCHIP EVENT TO OFFER FREE MICROCHIPPING SERVICES THROUGH THE END OF THE YEAR TO HELP KEEP PETS SAFE AND IN THEIR HOMES.
Studies show that more than five million animals enter shelters nationwide each year. Of those shelter animals, forty to sixty percent are lost pets. The unfortunate reality is that one in three pets will go missing at some point, sometimes at no fault of the owner. Even the most well-behaved dogs can get lost or run off
unexpectedly. Microchipping dogs not only greatly increases the chances of reuniting these lost dogs with their owners, but it may also help reduce the crowding problem shelters are facing all over the US.
“After seeing how successful our Care on the Go events were, and how much services like microchips are needed, we knew this would be a great opportunity for our community,” said Communications Supervisor, Kim Powell. “The goal of the mission is to have all Maricopa County dogs microchipped, so they can easily be returned to their owners should they get lost or be separated.”
AZ Lemonade Stand is also dedicated to giving back to the community. Through charity sponsorships and limited-edition flavor releases, they support groups like #LOVEPUP, JoyBus, Malama Maui, and more.
“Community support and giving back have always been essential to our business practices. We’re thankful to our local community for supporting our businesses, so we give back as much as we can,” said Kyle Hollenbeck, co-founder of AZ Lemonade Stand.
Shake it up and tap that AZ with AZ Lemonade Stand as they continue to celebrate success and give back to the community!
While MCACC already microchips every dog it adopts out, this event will give Maricopa County residents who may not have adopted their dog from one of its shelters the opportunity to receive free microchipping services for their beloved dog.
There is a limit of two pets per person, with a separate appointment required for each pet. These services are offered by appointment only, with available time slots open two weeks in advance. To schedule, visit maricopa. gov/215/Rabies-Vaccinations-andMicrochipping.

Knowing they had the opportunity to give Christa’s legacy a digital makeover, the dynamic trio converted Kitchen Switchen into a bustling online hub for those looking to sell or buy cookware, create their own community –encouraging people to learn how to make the most of their culinary journey, no matter what resources they have.

ADOT MVD offers retailers a new app for mobile ID age verification
ARIZONANS NOW HAVE ANOTHER WAY TO USE DIGITAL DRIVER LICENSES AND IDS
ADOT MVD will enable mobile ID acceptance on iPhone with the Smart ID Verifier app. By using the Smart ID Verifier app, Arizona retailers can easily and securely accept mobile IDs in person to verify the ages of customers purchasing alcohol directly on their iPhones, no additional hardware needed. This new feature will bring Arizonans another way to use their mobile driver licenses.
The Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division is partnering with the Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control to enable Mobile ID Acceptance on iPhone with the Smart ID Verifier app, available in the App Store. Participating retailers selling agerestricted beverages have an efficient and secure way to verify a customer’s age. Retailers using the Smart ID Verifier app will only be provided the required information necessary for age verification, such as a customer's age and ID photo. The information is encrypted between devices, so customers do not need to hand over their smartphones.
“ADOT MVD is proud to once again
provide new ways for Arizonans to seamlessly conduct business,” said Eric Jorgensen, ADOT MVD Director. “This digital verification process is a more secure and private way to present identification.”
Mobile IDs, including IDs in Apple Wallet and IDs in Google Wallet, as well as the physical MVD-issued ID card can be accepted using the Smart ID Verifier app. Neither MVD nor Apple have access to users’ personal information and neither can see when or where users present their mobile IDs.
“The Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control is excited to partner with the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division in the announcement of Mobile ID Acceptance on iPhone with the Smart ID Verifier app,” said Ben Henry, Department of Liquor Licenses and Control Director. “With this new capability, establishments can securely verify patrons' identification and determine they are of legal drinking age - right on iPhone. This will provide additional ease while maintaining compliance with Arizona Liquor Laws.”
Participation in the acceptance of mobile IDs is optional. Arizonans should continue to carry their physical driver licenses or state ID cards for those retailers who don’t yet accept the digital option.
For additional information about the Smart ID Verifier Ap, please visit azdot. gov/smart-id-verifier-app

The Arizona State Treasurer’s Office together with AZ529, Arizona’s Education Savings Plan are asking Arizona fifth and sixth graders: “What is your dream job and how do you plan on achieving it in the future?” The fifth-annual statewide essay writing contest kicks off today and is now accepting entries from all fifth and sixth grade Arizona students.
A total of 20 winners will be selected across the state and will be awarded $529 towards opening a new or existing AZ529 Education Savings Plan. One winner will be selected from each of Arizona’s 15 counties and at least one winner each representing a district, charter, private school, tribal school and homeschool will be selected. Up to five additional winners will be awarded in Maricopa and Pima counties, based on higher populations. Winners will be honored by Treasurer Yee during a special ceremony at the State Capitol in October.
A total of $10,580 will be distributed to 20 exceptional winners towards an AZ529 Plan to help save for their educational aspirations beyond high school. Parents
or guardians of the winners will be responsible for setting up an AZ529 account if an account does not already exist. Entries must be submitted to az529.gov/ essaycontest and received by October 6, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. (MST).
“I am excited to announce the AZ529 Essay Contest for the fifth year to empower Arizona students to bring future dreams to life and lay the pathway to their future education,” said Arizona Treasurer Kimberly Yee. “Each year, this essay contest enables students and their families to start thinking about the importance of saving for their future pathway to higher education. We received 886 entries from ambitious students across the state last year and look forward to hearing from even more students this year.”
Since Treasurer Kimberly Yee began administering the AZ529 Plan in October 2020, AZ529 accounts have increased by 44,486 new accounts and assets are up 45.3% to $2.36 billion. The goal of the essay contest is to continue increasing awareness of the AZ529 Plan and provide a path for another generation of students
to achieve their post-secondary dreams through proper educational savings.
The AZ529 Education Savings Plan offers a taxfree approach to setting money aside for college, community college, vocational training, trade school and other educational avenues for high school graduates. Arizona residents can receive a dollarfor-dollar state tax deduction for contributions made to an AZ529 account each year, of up to $2,000 per beneficiary or $4,000 per beneficiary, depending on filing status. Funds earned over time will remain tax-free when used for a wide variety of covered educational expenses. Additionally, 529 plan beneficiaries can now rollover unused funds into a Roth IRA, free of income tax or tax penalties. Friends and family members may also add to a child’s AZ529 Plan at any time and earn the same tax benefits for themselves.

Arizona Teachers Can Score Classroom Grants with Every Cardinals Touchdown
Football season is here, and SRP and Cardinals Charities are partnering for the sixth year on the Touchdowns for Teachers program. The program awards $500 grants to two teachers every time the Cardinals score a touchdown during the regular NFL season. Teachers can use the grants to purchase school supplies, books, equipment, or anything they need to support their classroom.
To date, the Touchdowns for Teachers program has provided more than $269,000 in grants to more than 538 teachers.
“Teachers play a crucial role in shaping our future, and initiatives like Touchdowns for Teachers are a fun and engaging way to support the work educators do for our students,” said SRP Community Engagement Manager Anita Tarango. “This program is just one of many ways SRP supports education
and workforce development in our community.”
In 2023, SRP invested more than $2 million in education. From hands-on teacher workshops to grants for educators, SRP supports teachers' work to innovate for the future and create supportive classroom environments. To learn more about SRP’s grants and education opportunities, visit srp.net/education.

Teachers can apply for grants starting now, through the day of the Arizona Cardinals’ last regular season game.
The grants are available for teachers employed at public, charter, or nonprofit private schools in SRP service territory. Grants can be used for any classroom need.
Winners will be selected weekly during the regular season. Last season, $60,000 was awarded to 120 teachers. To keep

We have already seen great progress in our son. I can’t say enough good things about Thunderbird FC!” “What a wonderful group of coaches! My son adored everyone. They treated all of the kids like their own family. I highly recommend Thunderbird FC and we cannot wait until next time!”
“We have 12 years in youth soccer and the experience our son is having with Thunderbird FC is second to none! It is truly a family affair and the passion for soccer and leading these young players is evident at every practice and every game. This philosophy applies to the families as well — no pushy parents cursing at refs and growling at opposing players here.“

I am Strong. I am Brave. I Can Do This!
KidStrong Has One Goal in Mind: Help Kids
As parents, all we want is for our kids to live a fulfilling life and stay true to themselves. But life doesn’t make it easy - every day they face problems, pressures and people who make them question their worth. That’s where KidStrong comes in. With soon-to-be three locations in the Phoenix area, KidStrong is teaching kids to believe in themselves through sciencebased fitness games.
KidStrong recognizes the potential of kids and focuses on instilling confidence in them as they journey towards successful adulthood – a cornerstone of KidStrong’s comprehensive curriculum, anchored on three pillars: strong character, strong body and strong mind. Every class begins with KidStrong’s affirmation to provide reps of confidence at a young age; I am strong, I am brave, I can do this!
Alex and Marci Weisman along with John and Danielle Patriarca, Area Developers for KidStrong in Phoenix, are thrilled to be adding their third center to the area. “I initially saw KidStrong as a good way to support kids’ physical development, but it wasn't until we observed
the positive changes in our own children that my wife and I truly became true believers. Our daughter has shown massive improvement in emotional regulation, respectfulness, as well as athletic ability. We are so excited to share this with more parents!”, says Weisman.
KidStrong raises the bar for what kids' activities should look like. With a focus on social-emotional and physical development, it teaches kids everything from public speaking to shaking hands to how to do a pull-up, how to make friends and building each kid’s confidence. The science-based programming takes kids through ageappropriate, action-packed 45-minute weekly classes. The programming includes input from experts in pediatric occupational therapy, child development, sports physiology, physical education and more. It helps kids develop important life skills and boost their confidence, setting them up for a solid foundation that will serve them throughout their lives.
"The greatest gift we can give our kids is the person we help them become," says Matt Sharp, CEO and Founder of KidStrong. “I want to make it clear that KidStrong
isn’t just for the kids. KidStrong has a focus on parent education and support as well, which can change a family's life,” added Megin Sharp, Founder of KidStrong.
KidStrong is for ages walking through 11 years old. With locations currently open in North Scottsdale (31313 N. Scottsdale Rd.) and Gilbert (3133 S. Lindsay Rd.), KidStrong is excited to announce that they will be opening a Paradise Valley location in the near future, to be located at 4603 E. Cactus Rd. Kids' Corner Hot Temps, Cool Water JW Marriott AquaRidge WaterPark is a Great Valley Spot to Cool Off
By Gretchen Pahia
While the calendar says September, the temperatures still say summer months here in the valley and one of the coolest spots to chill is the AquaRidge Waterpark at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort.
AquaRidge is filled with adventure and fun. There is a lazy river, multiple pool areas including the Wildfire Grove which has two pools and waterfall, Sedona Springs and the exclusive adults-only Sky Island. Sky Island is 21+ and there are perks such as a glass of champagne or sparkling water when you arrive to kick off the wonderful experience.
The Drop: This high-speed slide accelerates riders with twists and turns from top to bottom with a straight steep drop. Perfect for thrill-seekers!
Little Eddy: A beginner body slide for younger kids or adults with gentle slopes and tiny turns.
The best part of all is that you do not need to be a guest of the resort to enjoy what they have to offer. The AquaRidge WaterPark offers day passes to enjoy what there is to offer on property. One of the best things you can do during your visit is to indulge in a little bit of luxury by renting a cabana or a daybed. This is the true sense of relaxation and a great way to enjoy the pool without having to stay directly in the sun.
THE HAVASU PLAYGROUND, GREAT FOR KIDS AND ADULTS ALIKE, FEATURES THREE WATERSLIDES: Gullywasher: This is the only dual-person vertical wall tube slide at a resort west of the Mississippi. The Gullywasher brings together a traditional serpentine with a heartracing plunge that launches riders up a vertical wall for a show-stopping finish and jaw-dropping photos.
Hours of operation vary depending on the day and area of the AquaRidge WaterPark. Note: there are some height requirements with the waterslides so be sure to check those out before heading to the park.

AN EGGCEPTIONAL PHYSICS PARTY TRICK
Ready to learn an eggcellent party trick? Let’s get cracking with this fun physics challenge:
Do you think you can drop an egg into a glass of water without touching the egg or breaking it?
Don’t be chicken—it can be done! And, I’m not yolking around.
Here’s what you need:
• 1 tall drink glass
• Water (enough to almost fill the glass)
Directions:
1. Find a clear workspace free from breakables to set up this experiment—a cleared kitchen island or dining table are ideal.
2. Fill the glass about three-quarters full with water and set on workspace.
3. Set the pie pan on top of the glass in the same orientation as you would use to hold a pie.
4. Place toilet paper roll vertically (up-and-down) on top of pie pan, centered over the glass.
5. Balance an egg on its side on top of the toilet paper roll.
• 1 cardboard toilet paper tube
• 1 metal pie pan
• 1 egg
6. Hold your dominant hand about 8 inches from the side of the pie pan, with your palm facing the set up materials.
7. Quickly and forcefully smack the edge of the pie pan and pull your hand away. The pie pan will travel so be sure no one is standing in its way!
What’s Happening?
Make your observations first—what happened to the egg? When you use your hand to apply force to the pan, energy transfers to the pan, making it move. As the pan travels across the rim of the glass, the pan catches the edge of the toilet paper roll, pulling it out from under the egg. There is very little friction between the shell of the egg and the toilet paper roll, so the only force that really acts on the egg is gravity, causing the egg to fall straight down — safely into the glass of water. Now what? Consider, what would happen if you used a taller paper tube like
a paper towel roll? Try it to find out! Or, take the super egg challenge: Try using a cookie sheet or lunch tray instead of a pie pan and stack multiple glasses underneath. How many eggs can you get safely into their glasses at once?

Cover Story THE BENTLEY SCOTTSDALE Polo Championships,
Presented by Gila River Resorts & Casinos INTRODUCES NEW THRILLS AND BIG NAMES.
By Sondra Barr
The 2024 Bentley Scottsdale Polo Championships, presented by Gila River Resorts & Casinos, is setting the stage for an unforgettable event on Oct. 26, with its most ambitious lineup yet. Now in its 13th year, the nation’s premier polo event will not only feature its signature blend of high-octane polo matches, fashion shows, and luxury car displays but also introduce a series of exciting new elements. Among these, the much-anticipated addition of "Polo After Dark" promises to extend the day’s excitement well into the evening with night matches under the lights at WestWorld of Scottsdale, located at 16601 N. Pima Rd.
Event founder, owner, and producer Jason Rose highlights the various enhancements that attendees can look forward to this year. "We've always strived to intrigue and innovate," Rose says. "This year, in addition to the beloved daytime festivities—like the world’s 'Longest' Fashion Show by Phoenix Fashion Week, Canine Couture Dog Fashion Show, and performances by top polo teams— we’re introducing night polo, which is something truly unique in America. The combination of live music and polo under the stars will offer a completely new experience."
The new evening format is complemented by a partnership with Relentless Beats, a leading DJ concert producer in the Southwest, which will bring a dynamic sunset concert to the event. "We’re thrilled to partner with Relentless Beats," Rose continues. "The combination of live music and polo under the stars is something that hasn’t been done before, and we’re confident it will be a hit with our audience."
Beli Merdovic, general manager of title sponsor Bentley Scottsdale, emphasizes the event's commitment to maintaining its legacy of luxury and excitement. “Bentley Scottsdale and the Bentley Scottsdale Polo Championships represent a tradition of excellence and luxury. That tradition continues as this event brings new elements to thrill and entertain thousands of fans every year,” Merdovic says.
For actor Sterling Jones, who will be returning to captain the World Pride team, the event is a highlight of his year. Jones, known for his roles in "Barbie,"

"Grey’s Anatomy," and "NCIS," first played in last year’s Scottsdale Polo Party and quickly found the experience transformative. "Last year was my first year playing polo in Scottsdale, and I was blown away," Jones says. "It’s an honor to captain the Pride Team. Visibility and inclusivity are crucial, and I’m committed to advocating for change. Our goals are simple: peace, love, and equality."
Jones, who grew up on a horse ranch in Texas, was reintroduced to horses and the sport of polo through an encounter with Melissa Ganzi, one of the world’s top female polo players. "I met Melissa at a snow polo event in Aspen, and she saw that I had some riding experience," he recalls. "She invited me to try polo, and it quickly became a passion. Polo has significantly boosted my confidence, both on and off the field. This year, I’m especially excited to play under the lights—something I’ve never done before. It’s going to be an amazing experience."
Local polo player Diego Florez, a veteran of the Scottsdale Polo Championships, is also excited for the new elements being introduced this year. Florez, who has participated in the event since its inception, is eager to see how the night matches will unfold. "The evening aspect is going to add a whole new layer of complexity," Florez says. "Playing under the lights is more challenging because of the shadows and how the horses might react, but it’s also an exciting opportunity to see what we can do. We’ve played in the evening at other events, and it’s definitely different, but I think the horses will get used to it quickly."
Florez, who spent his summer playing polo across Europe, notes that the Scottsdale Polo Championships stand out for their diversity and scale. "This event is unique," he
says. "It’s not just about the polo; it’s about everything else happening around it. The fashion shows, the car displays, the Canine Couture dog fashion show—there’s something for everyone. And this year, with the addition of night polo, it’s going to be even more special."
In addition to the new night matches, this year’s event will feature teams from across the U.S., including firsttime participants from Nashville, Napa, and Sonoma. Defending champions from Aspen Valley, led by one of the best American polo players, Nic Roldan, will also return to compete.
Guests can enjoy the action from various VIP tents, each offering a distinct experience. From the refined elegance of the Prime Luxury Tent, featuring a catered lunch by Maple & Ash, to the energetic atmosphere of the Scottsdale Maserati Drivers & Players VIP Lounge, and the laid-back vibe of the Barrett-Jackson Champagne & Jazz Lounge, there’s a perfect spot for everyone to take in the day’s festivities.
Whether attendees join for the daytime action, the sunset matches, or the night polo, the 2024 Bentley Scottsdale Polo Championships promise to be an unforgettable day of sport, style, and celebration. As Rose aptly puts it, "We’ve created something truly unique here in Scottsdale, and this year is shaping up to be our best yet."

Neighbors Hello Neighbor!
HI, MY NAME IS… Michael Erath
I’VE LIVED IN SCOTTSDALE FOR 6 YEARS AND I LOVE IT BECAUSE… the people are great, there are an endless amount of things to do in and around the Valley, and the business climate is strong and growing.
A TYPICAL DAY IN MY LIFE INCLUDES… reading and researching, writing (I’m currently working on my third book, to be released in early 2025), and being a coach and mentor to executive teams throughout the Valley at my company Next Level Growth.
MY FAMILY IS… awesome. My wife Elizabeth and I met at four, started dating at 15, and married at 22, right
out of college. We have two adult sons, Zachary (24) who works at Privado, Fairmont Scottsdale Princess Resort, and Matthew (28) who works in the hardwood industry in Michigan and has given us two granddaughters, Grace and Adalynn.
ONE THING I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT IS… my Executive Assistant Team. Having the right team of A-Players around me to help me focus on where I bring the greatest value to my business and our clients is huge.
MY FAVORITE MOVIE I COULD NEVER GET TIRED OF WATCHING AND WHY…
“Top Gun”, the original one. My wife and I went to see it on our first date in 1986, when we were just 15 years old.
WHEN I WAS YOUNGER, I WANTED TO BE… an orthopedic surgeon. I was fascinated by anatomy and physiology in high school and college.
THE SONG I WOULD SING AT KARAOKE NIGHT IS… I’m not falling for this trap. I don’t sing and if I gave a song here, I’d get tricked into a karaoke lounge and have to sing it.
THE ONE PERSON WHO MOTIVATES ME IS… my wife, Elizabeth.
THE LAST THING THAT MADE ME LAUGH OUT LOUD WAS… my 18-month-old granddaughter.
THE PERFECT DAY IS… spent on the water, cruising under sunny skies from Newport Beach to Catalina for the weekend with a pod of dolphins playing off the bow.
MY FAVORITE LOCAL NONPROFIT IS… Big Brothers, Big Sisters.
MY LIFE IS… blessed. I’ve been given an opportunity to take everything the first half of my life has taught me and spend the second half sharing the lessons learned openly with others and through my books and in doing so, give it all back.
THE BEST GIFT I’VE EVER RECEIVED WAS… working with my father. I was able to learn so much and form so much of my work ethic and understanding of business through his mentorship.
MY DREAM VACATION WOULD BE… two weeks on a catamaran cruising the Greek Isles with my wife, our children, and our grandchildren.
THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE I’VE EVER RECEIVED IS… own your mistakes, apologize, make amends, and allow others to do the same.

The Playa II Bar and Grill Aims to Raise $10,000 for Local Military Charity
The Playa II is raising funds for Helping Hands for Freedom a locally based Military 501c3 charity.
On Saturday September 21, Playa II is hosting a golf fundraising tournament at Stonecreek Golf Club.
Helping Hands for Freedom has a primary mission to support the families of the fallen, wounded and deployed with serious financial life needs such as mortgage/rent, car payments, utilities etc. HHFF also arranges special event experiences by taking Gold Star families (families who lost a loved one because of the conflict) or Wounded Veteran families, to ballgames, amusement parks and other entertainment venues.
Moon Valley resident Eric Snelz is the CEO of Helping Hands for Freedom. His son did two tours in Afghanistan with the 1st Marines and returned with a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and PTSD. This opened Eric’s eyes to the plight of other parents/survivors not so fortunate, so he decided to get involved with HHFF.

Transplant Community Alliance’s “Music to Save a Life” Returns
The Transplant Community Alliance is thrilled to announce the 3rd Annual “Music to Save a Life” concert, headlined by the nationally acclaimed Talbott Brothers. This highly anticipated event will take place on Saturday, October 19, in Scottsdale, and promises an evening of unforgettable music and inspiring stories.
The Talbott Brothers will bring their unique blend of alternative folk, rock, and blues to the stage. Known for their storytelling lyrics and infectious melodies, Tyler and Nick Talbott will captivate the audience with their heartfelt performances.
The “Music to Save a Life” concert is about more than great music; it aims to raise awareness about the importance of living organ donation. The event was created by the Hebets family, who have experienced firsthand the lifesaving impact of organ donation.
At age 55, Scott Hebets faced kidney failure due to 40 years of insulin-dependent diabetes. His sister Patti stepped forward as a living donor, and their successful transplant surgery in 2017 transformed Scott’s life. This experience not only improved Scott’s health but also made him eligible for a subsequent pancreas transplant, freeing him from diabetes.
The Talbott Brothers are also passionate advocates for organ donation. Tyler Talbott’s personal experience as a bone marrow donor, which saved a young woman’s life, has deeply influenced his commitment to this cause. “I think it’s crazy that God made us this way, that we can share parts of

Transplant Community Alliance is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting transplant recipients, donors, and their families through various programs and services. Their mission is to improve the quality of life for those affected by organ transplantation and to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation.

Why Your Back Still Hurts (And How to Finally Get Relief!)
By Back Pain Expert, Dr. Morgan Massingale, Ethos Integrative Medicine
DOES THIS SOUND LIKE YOU?
You’ve seen everyone for low back pain and are still left without solutions. You’ve tried ice packs and heat compresses but the pain came back. Chiropractic care only offered temporary relief, your physical therapist put you on generic exercises, the pain management doctor did a nerve ablation and told you to stop being active, and the orthopedic surgeon determined that you weren’t a surgical candidate…
As someone who specializes in treating back pain, I hear these stories all the time. I know how frustrating it is to feel like you’re stuck at square one. The good news is you’ve ruled out the majority of causes for your low back pain, and it likely boils down to one of these three commonly missed issues:
LIGAMENT AND JOINT PROBLEMS
Ligaments stabilize your joints. When
they become worn or overstretched, low back pain can occur. One of the most commonly missed causes of low back pain is SI Joint Dysfunction, which is often mistaken for sciatica.
If you find yourself constantly adjusting your position when sitting or lying down, experience pain when moving from sitting to standing, or have back and groin pain, your SI ligament may be overstretched. On the other hand, pain that worsens with twisting, sidebending, or extension movements could indicate a joint issue like Lumbar Facet Arthropathy.
NERVE PROBLEMS
If your pain eases with rest but worsens with movement, a swollen or trapped nerve might be the issue. The cluneal nerves, which run along the glute and low back, can become entrapped, causing pain. Although pain medications are often prescribed, they don’t actually help to calm the nerve and stop the irritation pattern.
EXPERIENCE THE FREEDOM OF A PAIN-FREE BACK:
1. Ethos Pain Profile: Is designed to identify the specific characteristics of your pain, so we can pinpoint exactly where it’s coming from
2. 32-Point Back Inspection: Your pain bothers you during specific movements. Our 32-Point Back Inspection allows us to replicate those painful movements so we are one step closer to eliminating them.
3. Precision Back Scan: Our advanced musculoskeletal ultrasound exam gives a detailed, real-time view of your back’s structures, providing more accuracy than a regular MRI.
4. Ethos Pain Map: This is a specialized method to confirm the exact source of pain in your body. This detailed approach helps us create a personalized strategy, increasing your likelihood of long-term success.

MUSCULAR PROBLEMS
The muscles along the spine play a crucial role in stabilization. Atrophy in these muscles can weaken them, causing the muscle to shrink. Over time, the shrunken muscle gets replaced by fat, which can lead to spinal instability and pain.
RELIEVE YOUR PAIN FOR GOOD
If these experiences sound familiar, your pain is likely a ligament, nerve, or muscle problem — and not the ones you’ve been told about! I’ve spent years researching and treating patients with these patterns, and I don’t want you to be stuck at square one.
With our 90-Minute Deep Dive (which includes our Pain Profile, 32-Point Back Inspection, Precision Back Scan, and Diagnostic Mapping Technique) we’ll not only provide an accurate diagnosis (and explain it to you!), but also a personalized treatment plan to effectively relieve pain, restore function to your ligaments, nerves, and
muscles, and prevent pain from coming back.

Asset Protection for Your Heirs
By Libby Banks, The Law Office of Libby Banks, PLLC
Recently a client asked whether his Revocable Living Trust (RLT) would protect his assets from his creditors. The answer is no. While the RLT is a great estate planning and probate avoidance tool, it is not an asset protection trust.
I told him that while his RLT didn’t protect him from his debts, we could structure the inheritance for his children to protect them – and not just from potential creditors. We do this by directing in the RLT that each beneficiary receives their share in their own irrevocable trust.
TRUSTS CAN KEEP AN INHERITANCE OUT OF THE HANDS OF CREDITORS
The beneficiaries’ trusts do give them asset protection. An outright gift of the inheritance can result in a beneficiary’s creditors snatching all your hard-earned money. For instance, in 2008, Son started a business, but in the economic downturn, the business failed. He filed bankruptcy. A month after filing, Mom died, leaving him everything in an
outright distribution. It was all his. Except it wasn’t his. Because he had filed bankruptcy, it all went to his bankruptcy trustee.
Giving the inheritance in trust could have protected the inheritance from the bankruptcy creditors and could have given him a fresh start.
TRUSTS CAN PROTECT AN IRRESPONSIBLE HEIR FROM HIMSELF AND STILL PROVIDE FOR HIS WELFARE
My client mentioned that his son had addiction issues, and while he has been clean and sober for a while, he still had concerns.
I told him the irrevocable trust can provide protection for beneficiaries who might not manage the inheritance well, whether due to addiction issues or just being bad with money. Leaving the money in trust doesn’t mean you don’t provide for them. The trust provides that the trustee can make discretionary distributions to the beneficiary for their health, education, maintenance, and support.
Giving the inheritance in an irrevocable trust allows
your beneficiary to benefit from the assets but doesn’t give that person unlimited access to spend how they please.
TRUSTS CAN PROTECT THE INHERITANCE IN CASE OF YOUR BENEFICIARY’S DIVORCE OR DEATH
My client liked the idea of the irrevocable trust and asked me about protecting his daughter’s inheritance from her husband. The marriage was rocky, and he was concerned about what would happen if she decided to divorce after getting her inheritance.
I explained that if his daughter received her inheritance in trust, it could prevent her from losing part of it in a divorce. The assets held in trust won’t be divided up, because the inherited trust is separate property, belonging only to the daughter and not her husband.
My client was very happy to be putting protections for his children in place to assure his hard-earned money would benefit them the way he hoped. If you are interested in estate planning, visit my website at libbybanks.com or call 602-375-6752 for your free initial consultation.

Entertainment Movie Reviews and Upcoming Release Dates
By Tony Beal
IN THEATERS
“Trap”
A father finds himself on the edge of having his dark secret life exposed while attending a concert with his daughter.
Josh Hartnett (Cooper) shows an astonishing ability to play a true sociopath in this film. Hartnett’s performance matches the story’s twists and turns, keeping you guessing what will happen next. Different from M. Night Shyamalan’s (Writer/Director) previous works, “Trap” is the closest to a Hitchcock-esque feel he has been able to achieve. The film’s unnaturally odd, and at times comedic, world seen through the equally disturbing mind of a dangerous man is absolutely thrilling. Some of the greatest imagery here, which add to the cold and calculating mood, is brought to us through the lens of Sayombhu Mukdeeproom (Director of Photography). The final ten minutes are by far some of the best
performances of everyone involved in this film, or possibly their entire careers. The story is not for everyone, but for those who love Shyamalan’s work, this is very much for you.
“Didi”
The last month of summer told through the eyes of a young man coming of age.
“Didi” shows a side of Taiwanese life rarely seen. Life for a young man on the verge of entering high school is surprisingly relatable for anyone, regardless of background or economic status. Turning thirteen is a rough time for anyone, when changes in your body and mind can run you through the ringer almost daily. Director Sean Wang captures this rollercoaster beautifully through the eyes of Chris, who we follow along a summer ride full of bad decisions and life choices. Joan Chen (Chris) is terrific in his reserved yet clearly personal performance. The film is comedic, filmed in a manner akin to mid-2000s movie genres and will make you laugh, cry and reminisce all at once.
“Cuckoo”
The new home of a young girl and her family hides dark and disturbing secrets.
The underlying story in “Cuckoo” is clear for the viewer, however the way it plays out is not so engaging. The story is hurt by the film’s pacing and lack of development beyond the main characters. Hunter Schafer (Gretchen) and Dan Stevens (Herr Koing) are truly the saving grace in this film. Particularly, Hunter’s ability to portray her deeply alienated feelings and Dan’s calculating nature. Filmed in nothing short of a gorgeous manner, the visuals of the surrounding woods create a feeling of haunting isolation. Tilman Singer (Writer/Director) creates just the right balance between scares and silliness. At times, these aspects may not even fit with the point of the film, yet somehow still work. Overall, I believe this to be an entertaining film; a clear sign of the potential for Tilman Singer’s career.
ON NETFLIX
“Rebel Moon - Part One: The Director’s Cut”
The ultimate vision of Rebel Moon with new scenes and effects.
As I feared, the “improved” director’s cut was as disappointing as the original. Director Zack Snyder’s updated vision promised a “new story.” Instead, what we get is a longer, equally as flawed,
film. With very few new scenes, little is actually added as “unseen” and what is, does nothing to develop the story or characters. What Snyder chose to bring back only added gore and profanities which simply felt like a sad play for shock and awe. “Rebel Moon” is not an accurate portrayal of his abilities, as we know from his previous works, his talent places him at the top of his field.

Free Community Event! Why You Still Have Sciatica & Back Pain
(And How To Get Rid Of It For Good)
-By Leading USA Sciatica Expert, Dr. Tom Padilla
Is doing everyday things from standing up straight to finding comfortable sleeping positions and even just walking difficult because of sciatica pain? You may find it hard to focus on enjoying those around you because you’re distracted by your pain. You may have already tried chiropractic, massage, stretching, and exercise, but the difficulty is knowing which things will help and which won’t. This can be frustrating because it seems unpredictable.
Some sciatica is caused by muscular weakness and restriction, while others can be caused by stiff joints. Ultimately, certain exercises may help some sciatica, but make other types worse. To best help you, I’ve compiled a list of tips that will help anyone with sciatica regardless of the type to reduce daily pain.
Most people with sciatica just want to know if there’s a solution that actually lasts. Solutions that used to work, don’t work any longer. Eventually you find yourself in a rabbit hole, searching high and low for solutions that hopefully help you avoid surgery.
One of my patients, Marian, had tried everything above on top of back surgery, unspecialized physical therapy, pain management, spinal injections, spinal electrostimulation, acupuncture, and dietary analysis. Marian told me, “When you go through this, you learn how many things you can no longer do if you can’t stand or walk.”
You Don’t Have to Choose Between Surgery and Giving Up the Activities that You Love. Sciatica is so common because many of the solutions out there just take one area into consideration. The muscles, the joints, nerves, strength, weakness, etcetera. The simple truth is that sciatica is a complex condition with many contributing factors.
The core issue, which has been proven time and again in the best research, is that the body has developed compensation patterns in order to protect itself. These patterns are hardwired into the brain, and will continue to persist unless they are fixed.
This pattern is what CAUSES the tight muscles, and the stiff joints. These tight muscles and stiff joints eventually pinch the nerve, causing sciatica. Therefore, correcting the pattern is the true root cause. No matter how long you’ve suffered, you can still get your life back. No surgery. No pills.
6 Reasons Why Your Sciatica May Be Lasting Longer than it Should:
1. You tried looking up exercises to do on your own for your sciatica. But with many “causes,” it’s difficult to figure out which exercises are right for you. This is why some exercises can seem to make it better, but some make it much worse.
2. You tried a few relaxing massages and it felt good for a few days but then it came back.
3. You tried chiropractic care and it eased a bit, but the nagging sensation is still there.
4. You tried waiting for it to go away on its own. That didn’t work…
5. You went to the doctor’s office, and they gave you
pain meds or nerve medication to numb the pain. They told you to come back in 6 weeks if it didn’t work.
6. You went to a physical therapist who put you on the same exercises everyone else with sciatica gets…then they left you with an assistant who only half watched your technique.
Why What You’ve Tried Hasn’t Worked
If any of these things have happened to you, unfortunately it’s common. The issue with a lot of these methods is that they focus on addressing the symptoms, not the root cause of your sciatica.
What to Avoid
Here are 3 things that can make your sciatica pain worse.
Stretching: If you’ve been stretching to fix your sciatica and it hasn’t worked yet, it likely won’t. More often than not, sciatica has come up because of tight muscles. Stretching is for short muscles. Tight muscles are tight because they’re compensating for a weak muscle nearby.
Stretching will relieve them for a little bit, but it will come back unless the weakness is resolved.
Crossing Your Legs: Avoid crossing your legs at all costs. This can cause stretching in the back of your hip which compresses the sciatic nerve. It also causes twisting in your hips and pelvis which can put stress on the nerves in your back.
Resting: Certain activities right now might make your sciatica worse, but that doesn’t mean you should restrict all of your movements. If certain things are painful, like walking, lifting, sitting, it’s important to find the root cause so you can start moving properly and stay active.
How to Fix Sciatica for the Long Term
So many of the “solutions” we try only provide temporary relief because they’re not targeting the root cause. And without getting to the source of the problem, sciatica pain will continue to return because the cause was never addressed.
Marian learned this the hard way, and unfortunately a lot of people do. After addressing the root cause, Marian says, “I’m back to walking 3-4 miles a day; I can lift and hold my grandbabies; I can go to parties without having to sit in a corner; I can go shopping again.” The only thing she’d change? Finding a specialist to help her address the root cause sooner. “I could have avoided a lot of doctors’ appointments and needless and expensive treatments, not to mention losing a couple of years to my other attempts.”

A Legacy of Glamor:
Hollywood and Presidential Guests
Tales of the rich and famous, who flocked to the resort’s inviting environs and attentive staff, abound. Clark Gable once lost his wedding ring on the golf course and was overjoyed when a helpful Biltmore employee found it. Marilyn Monroe loved the stunning Catalina pool so much; she declared it her favorite pool for sunbathing. Harpo Marx honeymooned at the hotel—often holding hands with his bride and skipping through the formal dining room after meals, which both charmed and scandalized his fellow guests.
In 1988, a few guests on the second floor of the main wing reported an “awful ruckus going on” in the piano bar late one evening. The staff gently coaxed the disgruntled guests out of their rooms to peek—they were surprised to see none other than Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., and Liza Minelli were singing an impromptu set, quickly turning grumbling into delight.
Where Past Meets Present
These days, a stay at the storied Arizona Biltmore offers an array of five-star amenities. No matter what type of getaway you seek, Arizona Biltmore has something for everyone.
