If you’re ready to leave fossil fuels behind and embrace America’s future, then call SunSolar Solutions today at 623-562-9009 to have a design prepared for your home free of charge.

Well, it’s always darkest before the dawn, as they say, and we’re happy to report a bright ray of hope peeking above the horizon.

The law also extends and expands support for other household energy infrastructure, such as energy-efficient appliances and heat pumps.

Some critics have derided the bill’s inflation-fighting measures, saying its industrial policies (and various other measures) don’t do enough—or don’t do it fast enough—to tame price increases. To be sure, inflation is a complex and controversial phenomenon, one with many causes and no simple solutions. Nonetheless, having endured wild increases in equipment prices since the pandemic, we can attest to the importance of foresight in avoiding calamitous supply shocks. Washington, just as it is only now belatedly pushing a large-scale reversal of the medical-supply industry’s decades-long wave of profit-driven offshorings, seems to have recognized only recently the importance of a domestic manufacturing sector for supplying the country’s energy revolution.

The federal tax credit for rooftop solar systems, rather than continuing toward its imminent sunset, will last at least ten more years at its original 30-percent rate. That represents a huge expansion of the government’s commitment to distributed solar power, an indispensable means of escaping fossil-fuel dependence.

We’ll admit it: events outside our control have had us worried for a while about the future of solar power—in Arizona and throughout the country. With swelling panel prices, the Fed’s rate increases, and the ongoing, seemingly inevitable shriveling of government support for the green-energy transition, an ominous gloom appeared to be settling over our industry, foreshadowing a long night.

By Erick O’Donnell

With our state’s abundant, year-round sunshine, we Arizonans stand ready to lead that revolution. And the professionals at SunSolar Solutions, Arizona’s largest, best-rated solar installer in 2021, are ready to help guide Arizonans every step of the way.

With this provision, the Inflation Reduction Act lives up to its name by enabling the expansion of both energy supply and demand. The government’s traditionally weak, wavering commitment to this key subsidy has long discouraged the kinds of large, long-term capital investments needed to generate growth in the nascent industry, leaving America straggling behind solar trailblazers like China and Germany. Researchers and manufacturers of clean-energy technology will see even more direct help from Uncle Sam in the form of tax credits, grants, and low-interest loans.

2 • September 2022 • PARADISE VALLEY VIEW myhyperlocalnews.com

With last month’s abrupt, unexpected breakthrough in negotiations between Senate leadership and fickle holdout Joe Manchin, the future of clean energy suddenly started looking a lot brighter—as did our outlook.

Congress Passes, President Signs New Act. Homeowners to Receive Additional Billions to Go SOLAR!

AMOUNT!NEWGETTAXCREDIT

Don’t let the name fool you: the Inflation Reduction Act, more than just another attempt at alleviating price pressures, constitutes Uncle Sam’s largest and most ambitious investment in the nation’s energy future. A combined $369 billion dollars’ worth of tax cuts, grants, and low-cost loans will fund a thorough reorientation of America’s economy around clean, renewable energy, hopefully enabling us to leave planet-heating fossil fuels where they belong: in the past and in the ground.

Israel’s Yamma Ensemble performs original contemporary Hebrew music that stays true to the character of the Middle East, where its members were born and raised. The group’s soulful music is accompanied by ancient musical instruments from the region—such as the kopuz, duduk, ney, and oud, as well as various percussion instruments.

The firm’s responsible growth, expertise as it relates to client service, and community stewardship have led to several awards.

Beyond the Wilde offices, the business has grown exponentially by bringing on affiliates, boutique and likeminded finance teams seeking their comprehensive model and partnership.

Currently, Wilde works closely with several well-respected partners – many of whom now work directly in Wilde’s Valley wide offices physically under the same roof. This summer, Wilde also launched Wilde Wealth Insurance. The new inhouse firm offers corporate and individual insurances services, business insurance – including general liability, property, workers compensation, and more – life and disability insurance, long-term care insurance, and homeowners and renter’s insurance.

Aviation staff, in collaboration with Mead & Hunt (the airport’s on-call engineer) and the FAA Air Traffic Control staff, designed the project to introduce five aircraft run-up positions at the north end of the runway. This provides adequate spacing for aircraft and allows the Air Traffic Control Tower to efficiently clear aircraft for departure.

“We had a vision to offer boutique investment and planning advice in a fiduciary capacity, and to offer clients expanded in-house service offerings from fellow independent experts and specialists in the fields of legal, taxes, risk management, family services, real estate, and even insurance,” says Trevor Wilde, who grew up in Scottsdale and is an alum of Horizon High School. “Prior, I worked in finance at a larger firm, and my father had been in the industry for decades. The time was right to build something together.”

During Scottsdale Airport’s busy season––especially during event season with Barrett Jackson Car Auction, WM Phoenix Open, and the Arabian Horse Show––there are spikes in business jet operations. With a boost in operations from a mixture of aircraft types from smaller propeller, turbo prop, and business jet aircraft––they all compete to depart. The business jets departing with instrument flight rules have a certain window to depart the airport when they receive clearance from the FAA tower. Unfortunately, with a single taxiway and aircraft lined up to depart, the business jet aircraft are unable to taxi around smaller aircraft. And in some instances, some aircraft waiting to depart, obstruct others and delay their departure.

“Today, we have offices in Tempe, Tucson, Payson, Glendale, and Sedona, in addition to our headquarters in Scottsdale,” says Wilde. “We also have offices in Indiana and San Luis Obispo.”

“In addition to supporting our team members’ board positions, we offer firmwide opportunities to fundraise and give back together at least quarterly,” says Wilde, who himself is a board member for Junior Achievement of Arizona and Child Crisis Currently,Arizona.thefirm is working on a fundraising program for Chrysalis into the fall months. COMMUNITY IMPACT As the business’ roots became firmly planted, the Wilde family started looking at ways to pay it forward. Enter Wilde for Arizona™. The community outreach program empowers the entire firm to be active volunteers, fundraisers, and neighborhood champions.

“We also fund a scholarship through Arizona Tuition Connection to help students in need to attend Notre Dame Prep,” says Wilde, who with fellow Wilde advisor Jason Fial just made a $85,000 contribution to the scholarship in August.

Affiliates across the Southwest include In Touch Wealth Advisors, Huish Wealth Management, Rizzo Financial Group, and Self Wealth Management in Scottsdale; JRS Wealth Management and Hallmark Financial in Tucson; Mosaic Financial Associates in Tempe; and Premier Wealth Management Group in Albuquerque. “One of the reasons for affiliates gravitating toward us is our strategic partnerships,” says Wilde. “We can offer such a deep bench of services beyond traditional retirement and financial support – from tax services and estate planning to mortgage assistance and even college planning – thanks to our investment in them.”

In April, Forbes named Wilde to its 2022 Best-In-State Wealth Advisors list, with Wilde being named the No. 2 overall statewide. The honor comes on the heels of Wilde being named to Barron’s top 1,200 advisors nationwide, coming in at No. 2 overall in Arizona, in February. It was Wilde’s 14th consecutive year being honored and fifth time in the top five. The firm was also recently selected to BestCompaniesAZ’s 2022 Most Admired Companies and is a finalist for the Phoenix Business Journal’s Small Business of the Year Awards, with winners set to be announced later this fall.

“This causes a bottleneck of aircraft at our runway end,” says Aviation Director Gary P. Mascaro. “These grants support the importance of improving these capacity issues at Scottsdale Airport.”

Currently 44 other states have anti-hazing legislation.

The new legislation House Bill 2322 ‘Jack’s Law’ was signed in August by Arizona Governor Doug Ducey. It goes into effect on Sept. 24 and protects both college and high school students.

The law is named after 19-year-old ASU student Jack Culolias, who died as result of drinking excessive amounts of alcohol during a fraternity pledge event. His body was later recovered in Tempe Town Lake some three weeks later.

Through a life-saving legislative collaboration between Phoenix Attorney Pat McGroder, Arizona State Representative John Kavanagh (R) Dist. 23, Grace Culolias (the mother of Jack Culolias), and the family of hazing victim Christian Leventhal, a new anti-hazing law, ‘Jack’s Law,’ will soon go into that effect that makes hazing a crime in Arizona.

“The purpose of Jack’s Law is to save lives, plain and simple so this law also contains a provision to prevent the prosecution of those who take an injured student to the emergency room, or otherwise seek help from the authorities,” says Pat McGroder, plaintiff’s attorney for the Culolias family. “Jack Culolias should have never been hazed in the first place. Real Estate

Investors are the second largest number of calls. If you watch any of the HGTV shows, they detail how the personalities buy homes at auction and fix them up. Well, there aren’t many homes at the foreclosure auction lately because prices had moved up so much that it made much more sense to sell than let it foreclose. The recent value increases made investing much more profitable, but they also made good deals way harder to find. Investors who don’t want to split their profit with wholesalers have had to be creative to find people willing to sell. Calling or texting offthe-market homeowners like you is one way to do that. Buyers are an infinitely smaller group. They mainly do this via the post office and often with handwritten letters to add a homey touch. The pitch generally revolves around that they have been looking to purchase a home that has exactly the features that your home has. But in most cases, they too are just looking for a deal. They want to buy without outside competition and are hopeful that the fact they are your neighbor will get them a better price. Our clients often tell us that they have a neighbor who wants to buy the home before it goes on the market. This never works. Usually, the price we sell for on the market is over $100,000 more than the neighbor was willing to pay. If selling the traditional way (listing your home on the MLS with a real estate agent) isn’t the right path for you, a cash buyer could be a good solution. We have several investors that will make you a same-day cash offer with no repairs and often even allow you to stay in your home. So, if this is something you are interested in, don’t accept an offer from someone who makes their living smiling and dialing sellers all over the Valley. Give me a call, and we can help you figure out the best solution for you.

Why homeowners keep receiving offers on their houses while they aren’t even on the market is one of the most frequent questions I get. When someone asks, they’re usually pretty upset. This is especially irksome when the offers are persistent and originate from many sources. should note that during the short time I was writing this piece, I had four of these contacts on my homes.) take a closer look at this. live in the information age, and unfortunately much of our private and personally identifying information is available online. It is very easy for people to buy or rent lists in areas from people who already have your information. They can be very specific about the people they want to focus on. Scottsdale North is a target-rich environment because not only is it a high demand area, but most of the homes also have a lot of equity. That equity is very appealing for several reasons, but mainly because it gives them more room for negotiation.

WHO ARE THEY? In descending order of frequency of contacts, these are the most common: wholesalers, investors, and buyers. Wholesalers are by far the largest offenders. Wholesaling is now an entire industry in the new economy. It’s much easier, and it doesn’t have the risk of buying and then fixing up and flipping.

The wholesaler won’t usually buy the home themselves. They will simply wholesale it to somebody else. These people source properties for investors who don’t want to do it for themselves. They will just negotiate the deal to buy your home and then assign the contract to an investor. They wrangle to buy your home low enough below the market to give both themselves and the investor enough room to make their profit. The pitch is: “No hassle, quick sale.” Many of these folks are very good at what they do. They are likable and have perfected talk tracks. A friend of mine is a titan in this business. He and other companies will provide everything you need, including complete scripts and role-playing on how to talk sellers into selling well below market. Librarian Captures Joy in One-of-a-Kind Art

After multiple evacuations during fire seasons that began with the devastating 2017 Tubbs fire in Santa Rosa, California, Lange decided in 2020 to move her family to Arizona where she spent many summers as a child visiting her

“It’s a very refreshing way to make art because it takes the control out of your hands in a very important step in the process,” she explains. Each piece is hand cut with scissors, then stitched together to make a kind of paper quilt. The paper used is designed to be more malleable; a perfect combination between not too hard to cut and hardy enough to stitch together.

Photos Courtesy of Sami Lang For Paradise Valley Community College Librarian Sami Lange, her path through art was not always clear cut. Whereas Lange can’t recall a time in her life that art was not present, it wasn’t until her 30s that everything finally clicked, discovering an incredibly unique niche as a paper artist that has since stirred her inner passions and grounded her. Lange grew up in Northern California experimenting with different art mediums. In her early 20s, she worked for a skilled print maker learning the intricacies of the process and business. This led to pursuing her bachelor’s degree in fine arts in printmaking.

“The process is very meditative for me,” Lange explains of the labor-intensive process. “I make thousands of decisions on each and every piece, sorting the pieces, determining each shape, the depth of color, which side to place upright, where each piece is placed… the decisions go on and on.”

However, Lange knew when she graduated that she did not want to pursue art full time and purposefully set out to create parallel paths between art and academics, which she has maneuvered successfully for the better part of 15 years. Lange started her academic career as a student at Diablo Valley Community College in Contra Costa County in Northern California. While completing some prerequisites, Lange said she felt grounded and fell in love with her teachers. “It was clear to me, I always wanted to go back to a community Shecollege.”completed her four-year degree at Sonoma State University, going on to earn her BFA, as well as two master’s degrees in education and library science.

“Whengrandparents.weevacuated, considering I could lose everything really put things into perspective for me,” she said. Although their home was spared, Lange began questioning everything including her art; reevaluating what was important, she was ready for a fresh start.

“I took a long break from my art to figure out what I wanted to achieve with it,” she says. “I realized I needed to simplify what was needed from the work and lean into the idea that art can be a meditation for the artist and provide energy and joy to those that view it.”

In 2018, Lange began experimenting exclusively with mixed media paper art, in which she cuts then ‘bathes’ printmaking paper for up to 24 hours to watch the dye colors take shape.

“It’s safe. We’re overseen by a medical doctor with advanced protocols in place for patients’ safety and health,” Gibson says. “You must fill out a questionnaire, so we know your allergies, your conditions. Then, if we have a question, we consult our doctor.”

IV infusion therapy, which is what Gibson’s company specializes in, is when fluids, nutrients, and medications are given intravenously for 100%

By Shay Moser W ayne Gibson has been a first responder for a local fire department for 17 years. As part of his role, he’s asked a lot about hydration and wellness. That led him to start his business, Infinity Mobile IV Pros in 2021.

“In Arizona, most of the population doesn’t realize how dehydrated they are,” says Gibson. “Most people go through their daily lives and do their thing because your body compensates. When you’re feeling a little dehydrated or slow, you get the hydration pack. Your body gets pumped back up again.”IVhydration has been around for years but was typically only offered in the hospital setting for those who were dehydrated, nauseated, deficient, and needed vitamin and electrolyte supplementation. Infinity Mobile IV Pros provides IV hydration outside of the hospital to those with non-life-threatening illnesses. (Always consult with your primary physician regarding any severe health conditions.)

Infinity Mobile IV Pros come to customers at a time and in a location that works best for them. Gibson says he’s gone to people’s homes, businesses, and even met a man at a bar.

“We serve a lot of athletes,” says Gibson, adding that it helps them recover instantly. IV infusion therapy helps to replenish, rehydrate, and refresh athletes’ bodies after intense physical activity. It also drastically improves post-workout recovery, restores the body’s electrolyte and hydration levels, and quickens muscle recovery.

Gibson says the frequency of need for IV infusion therapy varies for each person. Some of his clients need it once, while others require a more frequent hydration schedule.

The added benefit of all infusions is instant hydration, bringing relief from dehydration immediately. Gibson says all IV infusions and shots are administered by professional, licensed, experienced registered nurses and certified paramedics. Some of Infinity Mobile IV Pros’ popular IV infusions include Vitamin D infusion therapy, B12 infusions, and Vitamin C infusions. There’s also an Immune Booster IV infusion, perfect when cold and flu season is just around the corner.

“Taking vitamins and minerals provides some benefits to your body, but the process of digestion breaks down these nutrients, meaning your body absorbs only a fraction of what you ingest,” explains Gibson.

by Infinity

“We discuss your health and wellness goals and determine which option or combination of options is best suited for your desired results,” says Gibson. Depending on your health and wellness goals, individuals can choose IV pushes, shots, and IV infusions.

It also benefits athletes, the elderly, or those who exercise regularly. It’s also helpful for people who work outdoors in construction or landscaping or hot attics like heating and air conditioning workers.

“The most popular treatment people request from us is to help them feel better when they’re not feeling well — whether they think they’ve got COVID or are not feeling right. So, they’ll reserve the Mega Myers Cocktail, filling in for vitamins and hydrating them.”

According to Gibson, he has standard drips that he routinely uses, or a customer can request a custom drip based on their individual need.

Infinity Mobile IV Pros administers an IV push intravenously, but it differs from a traditional IV treatment because it’s a more concentrated solution. “It takes very little time, so it’s the perfect solution for those in a hurry or without the time to sit for a full infusion,” Gibson explains.

When it comes to B12 shots and injections, Infinity Mobile IV Pros provide different cocktail solutions. Myers and Mega Myer’s cocktails deliver B complex, B12, Vitamin C, zinc, magnesium, and glutathione for energy and wellness. For an energy boost, Gibson recommends the Titan Energy cocktail or adding glutathione shots and injections to other cocktails for a customized solution.

“It can be a one-time thing, but it depends on your need and what you’re looking to get out of it,” he says. “You can get it for maintenance every two weeks or monthly. But, again, it all depends on what you’re hoping to achieve.”

Education

“Our young students are the future of Arizona,” says Treasurer Kimberly Yee. “This essay contest gives students an opportunity to highlight their aspirations for the future and think about how they will achieve their dream job with a plan for education. Families are setting up their child’s future when they begin saving for education with an AZ529 Plan. We are excited to bring this essay contest to students across our great state.”

Essay Contest Offers Valley Fifth Graders an Opportunity to Win $529 Toward Education and Career Goals

AZ529, Arizona’s Education Savings Plan together with the Arizona State Treasurer’s Office are asking Arizona fifth graders: “What is your dream job and how do you plan on achieving it in the future?” That is the theme for this year’s third-annual essay writing contest, which is open to fifthgrade students across Arizona.

A total of 20 winners will be selected across the state and receive $529 towards opening a new or existing AZ529 Education Savings Plan. One winner will be selected from each of Arizona’s 15 counties and at least one winner each representing a district, charter, private, tribal school and homeschool will be selected. Up to five additional winners will be awarded in Maricopa and Pima counties, based on higher population.

In all, more than $10,500 will be distributed to 20 students to assist in saving for their educational plans beyond high school. Parents or guardians of the winners will be responsiable for setting up an AZ529 account if an account does not already exist.

All entries must be submitted online to az529.gov/essaycontest or through direct mail. Entries must be received by Oct. 2, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. (MST).

The AZ529 Plan has provided a successful education savings plan for Arizonans since 1999, helping families accumulate $1.9 billion in tax-deferred savings. The goal of the essay contest is to increase awareness of the AZ529 Plan and pave a path for another generation of students to achieve their post-secondary dreams through proper savings. Winners will be honored by Treasurer Yee during a special ceremony at the state capitol in October.

PARADISE VALLEY VIEW • September 2022 • 23myhyperlocalnews.com Since 2009, Epic Kids has been proudly highlighting the achievements of local kids! Follow us on Facebook for -Family Fun & Events -Epic-CampGiveawaysGuidesAndmore! Facebook.com/EpicKidsAZEpicKidsAZ.comEST. 2009 our stories, our adventures Epic Kids Kids’ Corner

1. Recognize your child’s small and large successes. Children develop self-esteem gradually. Telling your child they are smart is nice but pointing out something specific gives them proof to internalize this belief.

A recent eye-opening study of 14,000 children in the United States found that as many as 40% of children don’t develop strong emotional bonds (what psychologists refer to as ‘secure attachment’) with their parents. Attachment refers to the impact that children’s early parental care has on their social and emotional development.

10. Volunteer with your child. When your child helps another person, it contributes to their own sense of self-worth. There are many ways to instill in your kids a passion to pay it forward.

9. Maintain a positive home environment. If you and your spouse are constantly arguing, your child may not feel they don’t have control over their environment. This can cause them to feel helpless and recluse.

5. Recognize when your child makes negative statements about themselves. If your child struggles with math and makes a generalized statement such as, “I can’t do math,” respond along the lines of, “You do well in school when you work hard. Math is a subject that you may need to spend more time on.”

6. Resist comparing one child to another in the family. Asking, “Why can’t you be more like your brother” will eventually lead to a lowered sense of selfworth. Emphasize what makes your child unique.

7. Show encouragement in many areas of your child’s life. If you only focus on grades, your child may believe they are only as good as their grades.

8. Respect your child’s cry. In other words, honor your child’s feelings and emotions. Instead of saying, “You’re 7 and too old to cry,” realize that shedding tears is a form of self-expression and it’s our body’s natural way to release upset feelings. In fact, crying lets the body rid itself of variants of the chemical cortisol, which is produced in times of stress

3. When your child fails, emphasize the persistence they exhibited, not the outcome. For example, if your child doesn’t make a sports team, tell them you’re proud of the effort put into trying. Learning to apply effort and be persistent are skills that can be applied to all areas of life.

4. When your child misbehaves, respond by saying that they “made a bad choice.” This gives them the power to make the right choice next time. Avoid making statements like, “You always misbehave,” because it can negatively define the core of your child’s identity.

Problem is: how do we protect our children from the inevitable? How do we teach them to ignore and avoid bullies— to rise above the cruelty among us? How can we instill in our children to love themselves and radiate the self-esteem and self-worth we hope they will carry It’sforever?surely a scary feeling sending our kids off to school knowing mommy isn’t around to protect them from falling or getting their feelings hurt.

As many get in the groove of back to school, now is an opportune time to prioritize feeding our kids with positive reinforcement. However, I’m no expert. I’m just a mom doing the best I can. So, after much Googling, I came up with a list of 11 easy ways parents can help their kids establish and maintain self-confidence.

2. Give praise when deserved, without overdoing it. Empty praise or a ribbon for no effort is not meaningful. A true sense of self-worth comes from trying, failing, trying again, and succeeding.

11. Be a ectionate with your child. Give hugs and frequently say, “I love you.” If your child knows your love is constant, your child will have the courage to try new things without fear of failure.

THE SONG I WOULD SING AT KARAOKE NIGHT… anything by Carrie Underwood or the Dixie Chicks. I have a similar vocal range.

MY FAVORITE LOCAL NONPROFIT IS… Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation. They do amazing work for kids in Foster Care–other favorites include Phoenix Rescue Mission and Scottsdale Charros. MY LIFE IS… always an adventure. I never take a minute of it for granted.

MY DREAM VACATION WOULD BE… one week in Maui on the ocean in a massive house with a tennis court, then another week on Kauai with the same sort of set up– a private chef, lots of tennis, and surrounded by people I love. Oh, and someone to make me mai tais on demand.

THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE I’VE EVER RECEIVED WAS… hustle hard, live above reproach, have fun, get enough sleep, and never, ever sweat the small stuff.

A TYPICAL DAY IN MY LIFE INCLUDES… a very unique workday that could be in my office or could be spent meeting with clients at their businesses—some time spent on zoom or phone calls, and a lot of time creating opportunities for media coverage for clients. I also play tennis at least five days a week, and captain three tennis teams, so it’s a very busy day from start to finish.

MY FAMILY IS… awesome. I am blessed that my parents are still in my life (as they are in their 80s) and though I wish they lived here, I speak to them often.

Hello Neighb !

THE LAST THING THAT MADE ME LAUGH OUT LOUD WAS… the show “Murders in the Building.”

No. 2: Charging Stations Are Not Gas Stations. Often consumers think commercial charging stations will eventually be as widespread as today’s gas stations. But this assumes charging stations will be used the same way. The reality is that we may not need as many chargers as most charging will be done at home.

No. 1: Most Charging is Done at Home. This may be the biggest change new EV owners experience. Few, if any, have had a gasoline pump in their garage. But most EV owners will install an electric charger for convenience and economy. It’s one of the great opportunities of EV ownership, as well as a stumbling block. Installation is a major up-front expense, averaging around $1,200, according to some national surveys. But your true cost could be between $500 and $2,000, depending on hardware, permits, electrician fees, and needed electrical upgrades. However, you’ll be saving on energy costs.

Courtesy of StatePoint Electric vehicles (EV) are becoming commonplace. By now, you’ve probably seen a Tesla, the Ford Mustang Mach E, or Nissan Leaf on the road at least once. Maybe you’ve even heard about newer models like the Rivian R1T pickup and the Toyota bZ4X crossover. And chargers? Yeah, you’ve probably seen them at highway rest stops or store parking lots. Now, you may be wondering if it’s time to go Oneelectric.bigquestion you may have before trading in your gasoline-powered car is: how easy will it be to find a charger? The answer will be based on your individual circumstances, needs, and driving habits. But here are three things to keep in mind.

26 • September 2022 • PARADISE VALLEY VIEW myhyperlocalnews.com Technology

Charging time is also important to consider. Today’s public chargers might take 30 minutes or more to charge enough electricity for you to resume your trip, compared to the five minutes or less at the gas station. While charging, vehicle owners will want something to do. That’s why charging stations built around shopping or dining destinations, like malls and town centers, may become more common. You’ll be able to take a break, eat, or shop while your EV charges.

More carmakers are working homecharging solutions into EV purchases. For example, Toyota recently announced it’s partnered with ChargePoint to allow purchase of its home charger at the dealership, and line-up of a qualified electrician through Qmerit.

A good rule of thumb is you’ll be spending about half as much on electricity versus what you spend on gas now. A typical driver would save enough to cover the installation in two to three years.

Are There Really Enough Electric Vehicle Chargers?

President Joe Biden has announced a goal of building 500,000 chargers to accelerate the transition. E. Bell Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85032

No. 3: There’s a National Network of Chargers, and More Are on the Way. According to the Department of Energy, there are currently more than 45,000 fast-charging stations nationwide, with multiple overlapping national networks under development, mostly funded by private companies. Tesla has by far the largest network with more than 1,200 U.S. charging stations (up from about 100 in 2014). Electrify America, a subsidiary of Volkswagen, is aggressively building out its network, with 673 stations operating now and 136 in the planning stage. The best way to find a nearby charger or plan a long-distance road trip is with an app like PlugShare, which calculates distance to stations and tells you if individual chargers are currently in use. To help bolster EV owner confidence, the $1.2 trillion infrastructure package passed by Congress in November includes $7.5 billion to accelerate building the charging network. It focuses on building along highway corridors to ease long-distance travel.

PROTECTIVE TRUSTS CAN KEEP AN INHERITANCE OUT OF THE HANDS OF CREDITORS These beneficiary trusts do provide asset protection for the trust assets. An outright gift of the inheritance can result in a beneficiary’s creditors snatching all your hard-earned money. But when you leave the assets in a protective trust, your beneficiary will not lose his or her inheritance to bankruptcy or other creditor issues.

By Libby Banks, The Law Office of Libby Banks, PLLC Iam often asked whether the revocable living trust we use as the cornerstone of our estate plans provides asset protection––protection from the creditors of the person creating the trust.

Asset Protection

PROTECTIVE TRUSTS CAN PROTECT THE INHERITANCE IN CASE OF YOUR BENEFICIARY’S SPOUSE, AND DIVORCE OR DEATH

PARADISE VALLEY VIEW • September 2022 • 27myhyperlocalnews.com

Call us today to schedule your FREE EstateConsultationPlanning ur Estate Planning in Phoenix and Scottsdale is highly customized to meet your unique family situation, assets, values, and personal goals. Our complimentary first meeting allows you to get to know Libby, our Estate Planning attorney and talk about your unique situation and what plan will best fit your needs.

Remember, when you choose Libby you are not only hiring someone to prepare your Estate Plan, you are choosing a seasoned Estate Planning attorney to guide you through this often complex process and raise questions you might not have considered. You are choosing an experienced professional to create a plan that serves your family in the way that you want and, after you are gone, a trusted advisor that your loved ones can depend on.

The answer is no. While the revocable trust is a great estate planning and probate avoidance tool, it is not an asset protection trust. When you create this trust, you still have full control over the assets in the trust. Because of this, the law recognizes that they are your assets, and your creditors can get to them in the same way as if they were in your personal name and not in your trust. However, you can help your beneficiaries out by protecting their inheritance with a beneficiary asset protection trust. How do we do that? Instead of your trust saying that your beneficiaries get their inheritance outright (meaning the trustee simply writes them a check and they do with it what they want), your trust can direct that each beneficiary receives his or her share in a protective trust.

Many of my clients like the idea of the beneficiary protective trust, especially after I mention that the trust can protect a beneficiary’s inheritance from his or her spouse. If a beneficiary has a marriage that’s a bit rocky will the inheritance end up in part in the ex-spouse’s name? Leaving the inheritance in trust can assure that your beneficiary keeps the inheritance in a divorce. The assets held in trust won’t be divided up, because the inherited trust is separate property, belonging only to the beneficiary and not his or her spouse. And what happens to the inheritance if your beneficiary dies after receiving it? With the protective trust, we can direct them to the beneficiary’s children or grandchildren. If your beneficiary puts the inheritance in joint ownership with his or her spouse, what happens when your beneficiary passes away? If their spouse remarries, there is a real possibility that the assets may go to the new spouse and not to your beneficiary’s children. Providing that the inheritance is to be held in a trust for your child, and then passes on to your grandchildren, can help prevent this unfortunate scenario.

STRESS REDUCTION Stress can be just as aggravating to the immune system as the foods we eat. Physical activity, yoga, nature, and plenty of sleep may be helpful ways to reduce stress, thus decreasing inflammation.

inflammation is a low level of inflammation that is not visible. It is a result of prolonged acute inflammation, repetitive injuries, or even external factors such as chemicals, medications, nutrient deficiencies, food sensitivities, and metabolic diseases. If not addressed, this chronic inflammation can aggravate and/or lead to health conditions such as cardiovascular disease, gastrointestinal disorders, autoimmune disease, chronic pain, and diabetes.

INCREASE YOUR VEGETABLES AND FRUIT Colorful vegetables and fruit contain a variety of anti-inflammatory properties. Many fruits and vegetables are beneficial, however green leafy vegetables, berries, cherries, and pomegranate are excellent choices for a healthy diet. Tropical fruits such as pineapple, mango, and bananas are higher in sugar and should be limited or avoided while treating inflammation.

Intake of refined grains and simple sugars is associated with the risk of developing inflammatory mediated diseases such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Fructose, which is found in table sugar, high fructose corn syrup, and fruit juices can cause inflammation and hinder the healing process. These should be limited or avoided. It is best to eat complex carbohydrates that are unprocessed such as whole oats, whole rye, barley, and legumes.

Powerful anti-inflammatory herbs and spices include turmeric, ginger, garlic, cinnamon, basil, rosemary, and thyme.

Poly-unsaturated fats high in Omega-3 fatty acids provide anti-inflammatory benefits. The best sources include flaxseed oil, walnuts, and cold-water fish such as Processedsalmon.fatssuch as soybean oil, safflower oil, corn oil, and canola oil should be avoided. Avoid trans fats, which can be disguised in the form of shortening, margarine, and hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils. Always read labels.

Diet and lifestyle play an important role in chronic inflammation. It is one of the simplest, yet most effective ways, to decrease your overall inflammation, protect your immune system, and make you a healthier you. Here’s what to do.

Food allergies/sensitivities can often cause inflammation. Common foods that contribute are dairy products, eggs, gluten, and soy. A naturopathic physician can help you decide if food allergy elimination will be helpful for you.

FOOD ALLERGIES AND SENSITIVITIES

GOOD FATS VS BAD FATS

Inflammation is a natural response by the immune system to events such as illness, trauma, physical stress, and chronic disease. Acute inflammation is a short-term healing process that warns our body of an injury. For example, if you break a bone, the body reacts quickly with redness, swelling, pain, and heat. This warns us to be more cautious of the injured area, preventing any further Chronicdamage.

CHOOSE WHOLE GRAINS AND LOW SUGAR FOODS

REDUCE YOUR TOXIC LOAD

Many industrial chemicals and pesticides can cause inflammation. When possible, choose organic foods and “green” personal care and cleaning products.

You don’t have to choose between surgery and giving up the activities that you love. Sciatica is so common because many of the solutions out there just take one area into consideration. e muscles, the joints, nerves, strength, weakness, etcetera. e simple truth is that sciatica is a complex condition with many contributing factors. e core issue, which has been proven time and again in the best research, is that the body has developed compensation patterns in order to protect itself. ese patterns are hardwired into the brain and will continue to persist unless they are xed.is pattern is what CAUSES the tight muscles and the sti joints. ese tight muscles and sti joints eventually pinch the nerve, causing sciatica. erefore, correcting the pattern is the way to target the true root cause. Resting: Certain activities right now might make your sciatica worse, but that doesn’t mean you should restrict all of your movements. If certain things are painful, like walking, lifting, sitting, it’s important to nd the root cause so you can start moving properly and stay active. How to Fix Sciatica for the Long Term So many of the “solutions” we try only provide temporary relief because they’re not targeting the root cause. And without getting to the source of the problem, sciatica pain will continue to return because the cause was never addressed. Marian learned this the hard way, and unfortunately a lot of people do. After addressing the root cause, Marian says, “I’m back to walking 3-4 miles a day; I can lift and hold my grandbabies; I can go to parties without having to sit in a corner; I can go shopping again.” e only thing she’d change? Finding a specialist to help her address the root cause sooner. “I could have avoided a lot of doctors’ appointments and needless and expensive treatments, not to mention losing a couple of years to my other attempts.”

Some sciatica is caused by muscular weakness and restriction, while others can be caused by sti joints. Ultimately, certain exercises may help some sciatica, but make other types worse. To best help you, I’ve compiled a list of tips that will help anyone with sciatica regardless of the type to reduce daily pain. Most people with sciatica just want to know if there’s a solution that actually lasts. Solutions that used to work, don’t work any longer. Eventually you nd yourself in a rabbit hole, searching high and low for solutions that hopefully help you avoid surgery. You’ve likely already tried many di erent things. Usually the list includes massage, stretching, chiropractic, and di erent exercises. One of my patients, Marian, had tried everything above on top of back surgery, unspecialized physical therapy, pain management, spinal injections, spinal electrostimulation, acupuncture, and dietary analysis. Marian told me, “When you go through this, you learn how many things you can no longer do if you can’t stand or walk.”

The supplement industry has experienced several lawsuits and recalls for issues related to ineffectiveness and adverse reactions. Do your homework.

PROPER DOSAGE There is wide variation in the amount of active ingredients in each supplement. Some iron supplements, for example, contain only slightly more iron than a glass of tap water. Make sure you get what you’re paying for. On the other hand, taking too high a dosage can be dangerous. Know the Tolerable Upper Intake Level or UL (the maximum amount you can ingest without negative side effects) of each supplement you take.

6 Reasons Why Your Sciatica May Be Lasting

What To Avoid Here are 3 things that can make your sciatica pain worse. Stretching: If you’ve been stretching to x your sciatica and it hasn’t worked yet, it likely won’t. More often than not, sciatica has come up because of tight muscles. Stretching is for short muscles. Tight muscles are tight because they’re compensating for a weak muscle nearby. Stretching will relieve them for a little bit, but it will come back unless the weakness is resolved.

Don’t trust your family’s health to a formula cooked up in a kitchen sink. Seek scientifically proven solutions based on years of pharmaceutical and health care experience and recommended by licensed medical professionals. Choose only supplements that have voluntarily undergone full-scale, multi-year clinical trials to prove that they’re safe, effective, and well-tolerated.

What you put into your body impacts your health in myriad ways, so choosing a supplement is essentially making a medical decision. Don’t rely on slick advertising. Always get your doctor’s counsel.

“Vengeance” A journalist travels to a small Texas town to make a podcast around the death of a woman he hooked up with. Have you ever watched a movie and can tell that the writer spends too much time on Twitter? “Vengeance” is one of those movies, as BJ Novak seems to think he’s made something very insightful on the political divide between uppermiddle class Liberals and middle-class Republicans, when all he’s done is come off as someone who’s never met anyone from the latter group. Caricatures roam the story instead of characters (though Boyd Holbrook is trying), in a story that doesn’t seem to know what it’s even about. Is it about the assumptions we make about each other, or the justifications ones will make to deny the truth? I’m not even sure if Novak knows, and it’s hard to laugh at anything going on here or feel like anyone is in danger. By the end, none of it really amounts to anything, as if he himself has given up on the story by that point. You’ll have given up much earlier. “Day Shift” A vampire hunter finds himself in the crosshairs of a new danger as he struggles to secure money for his family. “Day Shift” almost realizes its potential, if only it could help itself. JJ Perry takes his stuntman past and uses those skills to direct some great action, with some of the most intriguing camerawork of the year and a nice mixture of practical and digital effects. Unfortunately, the script has an obsession with quipping and a selfawareness that is akin to the “Deadpool” movies, as if it needs to acknowledge the strangeness of the story. Sometimes, it’s enough to let the story of a vampire union play out without winking to the audience every five minutes. Still, the actors deliver and sell it well, with Snoop Dogg making the biggest impact—despite his lack of screen time as an old-timer cowboy character. In terms of action movies, Netflix has made worse with more money, and it’s worth a viewing for what it still pulls off.

“Predator” is a series that has always redefined itself with each installment, and “Prey” continues the trend with excellent results. Scaling down the action genre to its barest bones, director Dan Trachtenberg brings a vicious and exciting ride that doesn’t let up, while also introducing new and unique set pieces and ideas. Even then, it still lets the characters guide it, as Amber Midthunder and Dakota Beavers (the latter of whom is in his first role) are natural born action stars who shine as a sister-brother duo. Most of all, it brings back the fear that this series has been missing for a while with a brutal new creature. It’s a nice reminder that any series can come back with the right idea. “Bullet Train” A group of assassins on a Japanese train find themselves connected in a way that puts them all at risk. Sometimes you watch a movie and can tell from the first few minutes that it won’t be for you, and yet it can still surprise you with how bad it is. “Bullet Train” is that kind of film that goes through the motions of having a big cast (including cameos), a funky tone and soundtrack, and enough humor and quirks to keep the audience’s interest. What it doesn’t do is make any of those characters likable (wasting a hugely talented cast), provide humor that’s actually funny or give you a reason to care about anything that’s going on. It can’t even deliver on the action, with choppy and ugly fight scenes that have little variety and no thought in the visuals beyond “flashy neon.” It’s a movie where you can tell everyone was only there because they were bored from COVID quarantine and wanted some quick bucks, and no one had any real passion. It’s an infuriating and obnoxious movie, a compilation of the worst aspects of modern action movies.
