Photo courtesy of Phoenix Art Museum

IN AN EVENING DEDICATED TO CELEBRATING 65 YEARS OF ART AND CULTURE, THE PHOENIX ART MUSEUM IS SET TO DAZZLE GUESTS WITH ITS SAPPHIRE GALA, THE PARTY IN THE GARDEN, ON SATURDAY, APRIL 13. This milestone event will be followed by the much-anticipated Pink afterpARTy, offering a unique museum experience after dark.

Commencing at 6 p.m., The pARTy in the Garden promises an unforgettable night starting with a cocktail hour filled with the tunes of the Valley’s own Luke Holton. The gala will present an exclusive first look at “Multiple Realities: Experimental Art in the Eastern Bloc, 1960s-1980s,” a groundbreaking exhibition showcasing the innovative spirit of artists during the Cold War era.

As the sun sets, attendees will be treated to an outdoor dining experience in the Dorrance Sculpture Garden, a first for the museum, accompanied by the sounds of French swing and jazz by Zazu West.

The celebration continues with The Pink afterpARTy in Cummings Great Hall, starting at 9 p.m. This after-hours event will feature music by DJ Yeezus, late-night treats, and unlimited access to

“Barbie: A Cultural Icon” and “The Power of Pink” exhibit. The latter draws from the museum’s extensive fashion design collection, highlighting haute couture pieces including Post Malone’s 2019 Grammy outfit.

Encouraging a splash of color, the museum requests attendees to dress in cocktail attire featuring hints of pink and sapphire. The afterpARTy encourages guests to wear their most dazzling fuchsias or sophisticated pinks.

Tickets for the Sapphire Gala start at $1,250, with table sponsorships from $10,000, including admission to the afterpARTy. Those interested in joining just the late-night fun can purchase tickets for The Pink afterpARTy at $165 for the public, with a special rate for Phoenix Art Museum and Arizona Costume Institute members.

The Phoenix Art Museum, a cornerstone of Arizona’s art scene since 1959, continues to offer unparalleled access to a diverse range of art and cultural experiences. With over 19,000 works spanning various genres and periods, the museum remains a pivotal institution in the southwestern United States, fostering creativity and connection through art.

“A Personal Pandemic” Explores Impact of COVID Quarantine on Marriage

Locally made movie premieres at the Phoenix Film Festival on April 6.

CAN A FAILING MARRIAGE

SURVIVE THE COVID STAY-AT-HOME QUARANTINE? Or will a chance encounter during the pandemic reignite a woman’s enthusiasm for life? These questions are the basis for “A Personal Pandemic,” a film written, directed, and starring Valley residents. It premieres at the Phoenix Film Festival on April 6, and has additional showings April 10 and 13.

“A Personal Pandemic” was created by Jeff Breuer, Phoenix resident and film professor at Grand Canyon University (GCU), during the COVID quarantine. Based on a short film he made prior to the shutdown, “A Personal Pandemic” gave Breuer the opportunity to explore brokenness through a different lens by asking, “What are the effects of a mandatory quarantine during a global pandemic and how does it impact people in challenging and uncomfortable relationships?”

“This is a movie without conventional heroes and villains,” Breuer says. “Instead, the film is designed to help audiences reflect on the characters’ brokenness as humans, without casting

judgment. I hope audience members use this movie as a springboard to accept learning, evolving, and changing as a part of moving forward in life.”

Breuer wrote and shot the movie during the pandemic. One of his motivators was to help friends and colleagues in the film industry who were struggling to find work during the crisis. This was the first feature for many of the participants, including several recent GCU graduates who worked on the production.

“Everyone in front of and behind the camera gave a lot of themselves to make this movie happen,” he says.

The film was shot on location in North Phoenix and Prescott. The cast includes Joe Flowers, North Valley Arts Academies theater teacher; Rebekah Varghese, president of the Independent Filmmakers of Phoenix (IFP); and Phoenix-based actors Briana Lys and Jedediah Jones. The 103-minute film also includes a cameo by local influencer and television broadcaster Kristen Keogh.

This is not Breuer’s first Phoenix Film Festival appearance. In 2011, his team

created a short film called “HOA Police: Suburban Enforcers” which won Best of Show at the Beat the Clock Challenge. Made during a series of 48-hour film challenges, Breuer and his team won a regional competition that provided an opportunity to screen the film at the

True to its acclaim, the event guarantees an array of unique items, spanning from vintage antiques and hand-crafted jewelry to bespoke furniture and decor. Junk in the Trunk has burgeoned into a coveted affair for avid shoppers across the Southwest.

Since its inception in 2011, Junk in the

Trunk Vintage Market has greeted over 100,000 shoppers across Arizona and California. Originating as a modest backyard market and creative outlet for founders Lindsey Holt and Coley Arnold, the event has bolstered over 600 small businesses in the past five years. Fostering community engagement has always been central to the event’s ethos. The market has forged enduring partnerships with local Young Life chapters to sponsor high school and junior high students for camps, alongside collaborating with other nonprofits for broader community benefit.

“There really is something for everyone – art, rugs, jewelry, candles, industrial, shabby-chic, vintage,” says Arnold, cofounder of Junk in the Trunk Vintage Market. “You can get something for your house, your kids, your friends, and family, yourself…there is so much

shopping under one roof. It’s a really fun event – we have live music, food trucks, there really is something for everyone to come out and enjoy the weekend.”

“We have new vendors every market, and this market is no different!” says Holt, who co-founded the event with Arnold. “We have an amazing collection of local vendors and small businesses coming from all over the country to set up in one location. Small business is so important – markets like ours are how these businesses make their living and support their families. By coming, you’re not only shopping for one-of-kind items at the market, but you’re also supporting small businesses.”

Determined to prevent similar tragedies, Kessler has transformed her family’s heartbreaking experience into a vital safety initiative.

Kessler, an Arizona native and University of Arizona alum, is an advocate for child and animal safety. Deconstruction for Deduction

Property owners benefit from eco-friendly deconstruction with Repurposed Environmental Solutions.

In a world increasingly attuned to the principles of sustainability and environmental stewardship, Repurposed Environmental Solutions (RES) emerges as a pioneer. This 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, operating across Arizona, California, Oregon, and Washington, champions a mission to significantly reduce waste in the building industry by reimagining the fate of construction materials. Through the visionary leadership of Executive Director Devin Schulte, RES excels in the deconstruction of buildings, ensuring that materials destined for oblivion are instead salvaged, repurposed, and given a new lease on life. Central to RES’s innovative approach is a blend of envi-

ronmental mission and financial incentive. By leveraging guidelines established by the IRS in 1922, which were designed to encourage the recycling of building materials, RES provides property owners the opportunity for financial return in the form of tax deductions for donating reusable materials. “We utilized the IRS’s guidelines and put it into a business to streamline their process,” explains RES Office Manager Vanity Delgadillo.

The process of deconstruction at RES is closely tied to the IRS’s stringent appraisal requirements, ensuring that property owners receive accurate valuations for their donations. This is facilitated by independent IRS qualified appraisers, whose expertise and certification standards are rigorous. “The minimum requirement for

IRS qualified appraisers is a base of 20-plus years and so many certifications,” Delgadillo says, highlighting the thoroughness of the valuation process.

RES’s projects vary widely, from modest 800-squarefoot renovations to large-scale 26,000-square-foot commercial demolitions. Regardless of size, each project is underpinned by the organization’s commitment to diverting reusable materials from landfills. This not only encompasses a wide range of materials—from concrete and metal to cabinets and windows—but also involves meticulous deconstruction techniques that prioritize the preservation of these items for future use for organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Stardust Building Supplies, and others.

16 • April 2024 • PARADISE VALLEY VIEW myhyperlocalnews.com

This process is streamlined into four straightforward steps, ensuring that each project is handled with the utmost efficiency and care.

Step 1: Initial Contact and Appraisal Planning

After reaching out to RES to express interest in their deconstruction services, RES explains the process to property owners and directs them to an IRS qualified appraiser for a walk though. This initial evaluation is key to understanding the potential tax benefits and setting the stage for a successful project.

Step 2: Scope of Work and Contract Agreement

Following the appraisal, the next step involves a detailed discussion on the scope of work. This includes determining the extent of deconstruction required, whether it’s a full building teardown or a selective deconstruction focusing on specific elements. A contract is then drawn up and signed, and the project is officially scheduled. This step ensures that both parties have a clear understanding of the work to be done, timelines, cost, and expectations.

Step 3: Deconstruction and Donation

With the groundwork laid, RES then proceeds with the deconstruction process, carefully dismantling the structure to salvage reusable materials. These materials, which range from structural elements to

fixtures, are then prepared for donation or recycling. This step is where RES’s mission comes to life, as materials are diverted from landfills and given a second chance at usefulness, embodying the principles of sustainability and waste reduction.

Step 4: Paperwork and Donation Packet

The final step in the process underscores RES’s commitment to providing a comprehensive service. Once the project is completed and all reusable materials have been accounted for, RES finalizes all records related to the deconstruction and donation. Property owners are then provided with a donation packet, which includes all the necessary documentation for tax deduction purposes. This step not only signifies the completion of the physical work but also the financial and administrative closure of the project, offering clients peace of mind and the satisfaction of contributing to a more sustainable future.

What sets RES apart in the competitive landscape is not just its mission to protect the environment but also its operational excellence. The organization’s deconstruction services are marked by quality craftsmanship, experienced crews, and competitive pricing, ensuring that property owners receive both environmental and financial benefits.

The work of Repurposed Environmental Solutions in the realm of sustainable deconstruction is not only reshaping the industry but also providing a model for how environmental stewardship and financial incentives can work hand in hand. Central to their success is the understanding that each property is unique, with its value intricately tied to the real estate market’s dynamics. As Schulte emphasizes, the variability in properties underscores the bespoke nature of their work: “It’s all based on a real estate appraisal. No two houses are exactly the same or have the same value. It really is just all the information that the appraiser takes in and then they come up with a formula that gives it a salvage value.”

This meticulous attention to detail and commitment to personalized service ensure that each project not only contributes to reducing landfill waste but also maximizes the benefits for property owners. Through their innovative approach and dedication, Repurposed Environmental Solutions is a model for sustainable practices to transform our built environment, one deconstructed building at a time. Neighbors Hello Neighbor!

HI, MY NAME IS… Stephanie Taueki.

I’VE LIVED IN PHOENIX ALL MY LIFE AND I LOVE IT BECAUSE… we have the best sunsets.

A TYPICAL DAY IN MY LIFE INCLUDES… getting up early and making my way to Mercury Mine Elementary School (MMES). I am the interim principal at MMES and have the pleasure of serving over 500 students and families in the neighborhood where I grew up. I am a Paradise Valley Unified School District graduate who went to Larkspur Elementary School, Shea Middle School, and Shadow Mountain High School. It is an absolute dream to

be giving back to the community that supported me through my academic career. And, of course, it is wonderful to be in the famous "Sheaborhood."

MY FAMILY IS… the most important thing to me.

ONE THING I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT IS… my husband, Mr. Taueki. He loves and supports me in everything I do.

MY FAVORITE MOVIE I COULD NEVER GET TIRED OF WATCHING AND WHY IS… “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy. I grew up reading the books and think it is a wonderful story of courage and perseverance.

WHEN I WAS YOUNGER, I WANTED TO BE… a teacher. I used to set up my coffee table with sticky notes and notepads and play "teacher."

THE SONG I WOULD SING AT KARAOKE NIGHT IS… anything rock and roll.

THE ONE PERSON WHO MOTIVATES ME IS… my father. I gained much of my work ethic from him, and I strive to be as hardworking and willful.

THE LAST THING THAT MADE ME LAUGH OUT LOUD WAS… seeing my dog watch me out the window as I drove away from the house. He was wearing the cone of shame.

THE PERFECT DAY IS… hanging out at home with family.

MY FAVORITE LOCAL NONPROFIT IS… the MMES Parent Teacher Group (PTG), of course! Our PTG is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and is the heart and soul of our special school. Our Parent Teacher Group raises an average of $75,000 per year and gives that money right back to teachers and students. For example, teachers get $500 to spend for their students. Students get unforgettable experiences when they have their bounce-house fun day, the opportunity to slime their teachers, and the chance to have a limo lunch with the principal.

MY LIFE IS… busy! Being a school administrator keeps me on my toes, but it is a dream job. At MMES, we have so many wonderful events for the community, from our annual Spring Fling and Winter Marketplace to our bi-annual Artist in Residence program. Our most recent event was where families could have some fun in our Desert Education Area, which is a one-of-a-kind trail system we have on our campus. This desert area includes an amphitheater, ruins, a pollinator garden, and more. Being at these events, talking to families, and seeing them having fun at their neighborhood school is one of my favorite things to do as an administrator.

THE BEST GIFT I’VE EVER RECEIVED WAS… support.

MY DREAM VACATION WOULD BE… New Zealand. Mr. Taueki’s family is from there, and it is a dream to visit –– minus the airplane ride!

THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE I’VE EVER RECEIVED IS… I’ve gotten so many good pieces of advice, but I like this one from the poem called Desiderata. I found this poem in my current office. The previous principal had it taped to her cabinet: “Go placidly amid the noise and haste and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.”

BEAN IN A JAR

Roll up your sleeves and get ready for a bean-credible journey from seed to plant, all within the cozy confines of a simple jar! Yes, you heard it right, you can grow your very own bean plant without a garden – let's see how it's done!

WHAT’S THE SCOOP ON SPROUTS?

Sprouting a bean is like magic – it's called germination! For a seed to wake up and grow, it needs just a few things: water, air, and the right temperature. That's it! Every seed has a tiny plant waiting inside, and you can help it out! Here’s how:

WHAT YOU NEED

• A bean seed

• A clear jar

• Paper towels or cotton balls

• Water

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Wet your paper towel or napkin until it’s damp, not dripping, and fit it snugly into your jar.

2. Swish a little water around the inside of the jar.

3. Place your bean seed in the jar so it’s resting against the paper towel or cotton balls. It needs a little hug, not a squeeze!

4. Every couple of days, give your bean a mist of water.

In a few days, your bean seed should start to sprout, a process called germination. Your bean doesn't even need sunlight to start growing – that part comes later when it’s ready to leave the jar and get planted in the soil.

Curious about how light affects your bean plant's growth? Place one jar on a sunny windowsill and another in a dark cupboard. Make sure both beans get the same amount of water and warmth. After a week, take a peek – the bean in the sun will

probably be wearing a little green hat of leaves, while the one in the dark might have a pale and spindly look. The sunlight helps the plant make its food, which gives it that lovely green color. But even without light, the bean still grows with the energy stored in its seed. How cool is that?

Once it starts growing leaves, that's when it craves sunshine to turn into a big, strong plant. So, when your little bean looks like it’s ready for more room, it’s time to move it into a pot with soil.

How Will Your Successor Trustee Step in to Help When Needed?

Picking the right people to handle your affairs if you become incapacitated is one of the most important aspects of estate planning. For those using the revocable living trust for planning, that is your trustee. Knowing how to make the transition from you to your successor trustee is important. You need to know how this will happen, and so do they. What are some ways to do that?

First, make sure your trust is clear on when and how a trustee or financial agent takes over if you are incapacitated: What does your plan say about how your incapacity is proven? A trust often requires a physician to make that finding in writing. Another option in many trusts is the disability panel. An example is requiring your two children and your spouse to agree you are incapacitated or stating that a physician and two of three individuals you choose must agree. The important thing here is to be sure your documents establish a clear and a workable solution – one that protects you from an unjustified finding, but still allows a smooth transition when someone needs to step in. Make sure your successor trustee knows what steps they need to take ahead of time.

Consider adding a co-trustee before you become incapacitated: As we get closer to needing assistance, it may be

helpful to add your successor trustee as a co-trustee. This permits a gradual transition, allowing the successor trustee the time to become familiar with the trust assets and how you like to handle your affairs. It also gives you a chance to oversee the co-trustee and evaluate their performance before it is too late to make a change. If the co-trustee doesn’t appear to take the responsibilities seriously or is not using good judgment, remove them as co-trustee and quickly amend your trust to change who will be the successor trustee.

If it’s time, think about resigning for a smooth transition: Most of us don’t want to let go of the reins of our financial affairs. However, there may come a time when it would be wise to turn control over to those in line as successor trustees. If managing your trust assets is beginning to overwhelm you, or you don’t feel you are handling your affairs well, it might be time to make a formal resignation. This permits your successor to take over without a formal finding of incapacity, avoiding the need for a doctor’s letter.

Trusts handle incapacity findings in many ways. Some are clear, and some overly complex. Some trusts contain no directions for this important transition. If you are ready to establish an estate plan, we will go discuss this important issue. I can also help if your existing plan needs to be updated. Is Shoulder Pain Making You Retire Your Racket?

“D

o I have to quit tennis if I want to avoid surgery?” This was the first question Jerry lobbed at me as we sat in my office. His once-ace tennis game had been disrupted by a persistent rotator cuff injury, dealing him a double fault in his athletic pursuits.

“I don’t know what else to do, doc. I’ve done e-stim, dry needling, physical therapy exercises — and I am still having pain. The orthopedic surgeon gave me a cortisone shot and told me I’d have to wait until the tear was bad enough for surgery — which also means I have to wait for the pain to get worse. And I can’t even play now.”

THE ACES AND PAINS

Jerry’s story is a common one in our office. He has done everything his insurance allows him to do, but he’s not making a grand slam recovery. The good news for Jerry is that there are options outside of insurance that allow him to get back to playing without shoulder pain.

To better understand Jerry’s options, we need to look at why he isn’t better in the first place. The vast majority of injuries are a result of repetitive, poor movement patterns, which cause wear and tear to the muscle and joint structures in the body. Jerry’s rotator cuff injury was a result of this poor movement pattern.

While the treatments he received focused on correcting the movement pattern, which is crucial, they missed the sweet spot in addressing the rotator cuff injury causing his pain. Sure, the cortisone injection provided temporary relief, but it also caused more damage to the tissue…

HOW OUR DEEP DIVE BRIDGES THE “GAP”

Jerry found himself in what our team calls “The Gap” in orthopedic medicine — where conservative care is exhausted, surgery isn’t an immediate option, and waiting for the pain to get worse is the only choice. His story is not uncommon; applying a one-size-fitsall approach left Jerry without clear guidance or solutions. But you don’t need to wait until it gets worse!

With our comprehensive Deep Dive

(which includes our Pain Profile, 32-Point Shoulder Inspection, Precision Shoulder Scan, and Diagnostic Mapping Technique — all of which were used to confirm Jerry’s pain and guide his treatment strategy), we’ll not only get you an accurate diagnosis (and explain it to you!), but will also provide you with a personalized treatment plan to effectively treat your pain and prevent it from coming back.

Entertainment Movie Reviews and Upcoming Release Dates

“Dune: Part Two”

Paul Atreides leads the Freman to take control of the planet Arrakis, no matter the cost.

The existence of a “Dune” adaptation that captures the spirit and themes of the original without sugarcoating is nothing short of miraculous. This is before we even delve into the intricacies of “Dune: Part Two.” Denis Villeneuve exerts complete control over every element, from the thrilling worm rides to the serene shots of people perched on sand dunes watching the sunset. Each scene resonates with its own significance. The cast delivers outstanding performances, with Austin Butler, Zendaya, and Javier Bardem embodying the diverse ideologies central to the film’s narrative with finesse. Notably bold, the movie ventures into darker territories than most recent blockbusters dare to tread. It portrays not the rise of a hero, but the ascendancy of a villain—a true tragedy.

“Drive-Away Dolls”

Two friends find themselves in the middle of a criminal conspiracy during a road trip.

This movie is a treat for those who relish a good dose of the zany, as it wholeheartedly embraces its B-movie roots. Think exaggerated characters, over-the-top dialogue, and an irresistibly silly mood throughout. For fans of this genre, it's a total riot—as it was for me—with a cast that perfectly embodies the film's outlandish spirit. There's an unexpected sweetness to the movie as well, with themes of friendship and love at its core, anchored by the excellent cast of Margaret Qualley and Geraldine Viswanathan. While the film's runtime is just over 80 minutes and feels a tad bloated, this may well contribute to its quirky charm and homage to classic B-movies. Above all, it's downright hilarious, offering every character a chance to deliver a memorable line. Ethan Coen hasn't lost his touch, and alongside his co-writer and wife, Tricia Cooke, they both flaunt considerable talent.

ON NETFLIX

“Spaceman”

A cosmonaut, on a mission that’s more personal than it seems, finds it can be the potential solution to his life problems.

Adam Sandler showcases his remarkable acting prowess once again, delivering a subdued performance laced with guilt. Yet, it's Paul Dano's voice role as a giant space spider that leaves the most profound impact, balancing emotional detachment with a sense of curiosity. Johan Renck, the director acclaimed for the HBO miniseries “Chernobyl,” brings his visually stunning and fluid camerawork to the fore, creating an immersive sensation of solitary space exploration. The film's momentum falters somewhat with cuts back to Earth; these segments might have been more effective as visions or flashbacks rather than a concurrent narrative, and they tend to make the film feel longer than necessary. Nonetheless, the film's genuine and bold approach makes it a commendable addition to the genre.

ON AMAZON PRIME

“Ricky Stanicky”

Three friends hire an actor to play a made up friend who gets them out of trouble.

At the one-hour mark of “Ricky Stanicky,”

it dawned on me that the film was only just setting the stage for its main plot, with a scant 50 minutes remaining. The movie seems like a relic from the early 2000s, and not in a nostalgic way. Peter Farrelly seems to be reaching for the comedic heights of his earlier works, pre“Green Book” acclaim, but that magic is noticeably absent. Instead, we're left with a film that oscillates between being obnoxious and simply distasteful, its humor lacking consistency and finesse. The jokes are tired and overly labored. The cast appears disengaged, with the notable exception of John Cena, who strives to inject a semblance of boldness into the mix. Alas, the movie's execution is rudimentary at best, reminiscent of a novice student project rather than a polished production. “Ricky Stanicky” feels like a film that missed its era by over a decade and might have been best left there.

Why You Still Have Sciatica Pain (And How To Get Rid Of It For Good)

-By Leading USA Sciatica Expert, Dr. Tom Padilla

Is doing everyday things from standing up straight to nding comfortable sleeping positions and even just walking di cult because of sciatica pain? You may nd it hard to focus on enjoying those around you because you’re distracted by your pain. You may have already tried chiropractic, massage, stretching, and exercise, but the di culty is knowing which things will help and which won’t. is can be frustrating because it seems unpredictable.

Some sciatica is caused by muscular weakness and restriction, while others can be caused by sti joints. Ultimately, certain exercises may help some sciatica, but make other types worse. To best help you, I’ve compiled a list of tips that will help anyone with sciatica regardless of the type to reduce daily pain.

Most people with sciatica just want to know if there’s a solution that actually lasts. Solutions that used to work, don’t work any longer. Eventually you nd yourself in a rabbit hole, searching high and low for solutions that hopefully help you avoid surgery.

One of my patients, Marian, had tried everything above on top of back surgery, unspecialized physical therapy, pain management, spinal injections, spinal electrostimulation, acupuncture, and dietary analysis. Marian told me, “When you go through this, you learn how many things you can no longer do if you can’t stand or walk.”

You Don’t Have to Choose Between Surgery and Giving Up the Activities that You Love.

Sciatica is so common because many of the solutions out there just take one area into consideration. e muscles, the joints, nerves, strength, weakness, etcetera. e simple truth is that sciatica is a complex condition with many contributing factors.

e core issue, which has been proven time and again in the best research, is that the body has developed compensation patterns in order to protect itself. ese patterns are hardwired into the brain, and will continue to persist unless they are xed. is pattern is what CAUSES the tight muscles, and the sti joints. ese tight muscles and sti joints eventually pinch the nerve, causing sciatica. erefore, correcting the pattern is the true root cause. No matter how long you’ve su ered, you can still get your life back. No surgery. No pills.

6 Reasons Why Your Sciatica May Be Lasting Longer than it Should:

1. You tried looking up exercises to do on your own for your sciatica. But with many “causes,” it’s di cult to gure out which exercises are right for you. is is why some exercises can seem to make it better, but some make it much worse.

2. You tried a few relaxing massages and it felt good for a few days but then it came back.

3. You tried chiropractic care and it eased a bit, but the nagging sensation is still there.

4. You tried waiting for it to go away on its own. at didn’t work…

5. You went to the doctor’s o ce, and they gave you pain meds or nerve medication to numb the pain. ey told you to come back in 6 weeks if it didn’t work.

6. You went to a physical therapist who put you on the same exercises everyone else with sciatica gets…then they left you with an assistant who only half watched your technique.

Why What You’ve Tried Hasn’t Worked

What to Avoid

Here are 3 things that can make your sciatica pain worse.

Stretching: If you’ve been stretching to x your sciatica and it hasn’t worked yet, it likely won’t. More often than not, sciatica has come up because of tight muscles. Stretching is for short muscles. Tight muscles are tight because they’re compensating for a weak muscle nearby.

Stretching will relieve them for a little bit, but it will come back unless the weakness is resolved.

Crossing Your Legs: Avoid crossing your legs at all costs. is can cause stretching in the back of your hip which compresses the sciatic nerve. It also causes twisting in your hips and pelvis which can put stress on the nerves in your back.

Resting: Certain activities right now might make your sciatica worse, but that doesn’t mean you should restrict all of your movements. If certain things are painful, like walking, lifting, sitting, it’s important to nd the root cause so you can start moving properly and stay active.

How to Fix Sciatica for the Long Term

So many of the “solutions” we try only provide temporary relief because they’re not targeting the root cause. And without getting to the source of the problem, sciatica pain will continue to return because the cause was never addressed.

Marian learned this the hard way, and unfortunately a lot of people do. After addressing the root cause, Marian says, “I’m back to walking 3-4 miles a day; I can lift and hold my grandbabies; I can go to parties without having to sit in a corner; I can go shopping again.” e only thing she’d change? Finding a specialist to help her address the root cause sooner. “I could have avoided a lot of doctors’ appointments and needless and expensive treatments, not to mention losing a couple of years to my other attempts.”

How to Get Rid of Sciatica Pain for Good

If you’re ready to get to the root cause of your sciatica, and want to get back to being active with con dence, and without painkillers or surgery, you may qualify for a complimentary “discovery visit” with a specialist. To apply, email info@ thedoctorsofpt.com and say “discovery visit” along with your phone number and we’ll reach out. Or apply at: www.thedoctorsofpt.com/discovery-session.

If you’re ok to keep trying on your own, our special sciatica report is full of more tips to ease your pain fast so you can get back to doing the basics without as much pain. Get a hard copy of our sciatica report (value $27) mailed to your home for FREE by calling 480-482- 0651 and asking for a copy, or emailing us at info@thedoctorsofpt.com and saying “Send me a sciatica report” along with your name, phone number, and address so we can mail it to you.

FIRST DAY OF SPRING MARCH 19

If any of these things have happened to you, unfortunately it’s common. e issue with a lot of these methods is that they focus on addressing the symptoms, not the root cause of your sciatica.
