SHINING STAR VOLUNTEERS OF PARADISE VALLEY
In December, Paradise Valley Mayor Jerry Bien-Willner, and Vice Mayor Anna Thomasson acknowledged and honored the Shining Star town volunteers who achieved milestone service years of five, 10, and 25 years in Paradise Valley. Those who donated their time on volunteer committees and town commissions along with town staff working behind the scenes also were recognized.
Guests were welcomed by the music of local musicians Dusty Ramblers, and famed local country musician Kenny Skaggs, before the formal volunteer recognition ceremony began. The evening also included a lively round of town trivia Jeopardy, highlighting some of the most memorable and unique aspects of Paradise Valley history, and its residents.

Gucci Men’s Boutique Opens at Scottdale Fashion Square

GUCCI OPENED A NEW 5,000 SQUARE FOOT MEN’S BOUTIQUE IN SCOTTSDALE FASHION SQUARE LAST MONTH. Marking the second dedicated men’s store for Gucci in the United States, the boutique showcases the breadth of the men’s offering across men’s shoes, luggage, small leather goods, belts, jewelry, watches, and eyewear, for guests to explore.
The new boutique complements the Gucci women’s location within Scottsdale Fashion Square, offering guests the expansive Gucci collection at the shopping center. Within the new men’s location, customers can discover a range of men’s and travel luggage products, including the Linea Bauletto bag and Ophidia Duffel.
With a look that invites customers to feel welcome and relaxed, the interior design is discreet. In keeping with the elegant and contemporary eclecticism that characterizes Gucci’s collections, the store sees the combination of traditional and modern, industrial, and romantic. Contrasting merchandising elements represent different design codes, combining to create curiosity, inviting customers to feel like they are discovering new aspects of the store. The mood within the store is one of
discretion, where understated drama is created by the surprising and unexpected combination of materials. Custom patterned green carpeted floors produce decorative effects throughout the store, while being harmoniously complemented by Gucci Décor’s Glade Print wallpaper. Juxtaposition of this sort, where opposites forge a new connection, is repeated throughout: technical, mechanical display units contrast with the softness of the rich fabrics that adorn the rooms; round tables offset rectangular ones; varnished, black and gold iron wall finishes complement moss green velvets, used for upholstery and fitting rooms. Throughout the store one finds sumptuous chairs, while vintage oriental rugs are over the carpet for a textured effect. The result is a space that entices, surprises, and feels personal to Gucci.

PVHS Student Receives Recognition for Excellence
Photos courtesy of Paradise Valley Unified School District
Paradise Valley High School Senior and CREST student Tej Desai was selected as one of the five Arizona nominees for the 2022-2023 U.S. Presidential Scholars in Career and Technical Education honor. This program recognizes and celebrates distinguished graduating high school seniors and is one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students. Desai was selected based on his technical competency, professional employability, skills, ingenuity, creativity, and for maintaining high achievement in rigorous classes.
As one of the five Arizona nominees or semi-finalists in this honor’s selection process, Tej was selected by Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Kathy Hoffman, who submitted his nomination to the Commission on Presidential Scholars at the U.S. Department of Education. This month, Desai will be invited to apply for
national review by the Commission on the Presidential Scholars at the U.S. Department of Education. He will find out in May if he is one of 20 students selected as a national winner after being showcased later this year by the Arizona Department of Education.
Additionally, last November, Desai was selected to be part of the Student Discovery Zone Challenge Scholarship by The Arizona Bioindustry Association (AZBio) a not-for-profit, trade association supporting the growth of Arizona’s life science sector.
He submitted his work from his summer research through KEYS at U of A: Use of the National Alzheimer’s Coordinating Center Data to Examine Normative Cognitive Aging, explaining the research process and findings that industry leaders judged, resulting in him winning first place in the high school student group with a scholarship of $1000.00. The award was presented to him by Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego.

Inspiring Teens Provide Support to Peers Dealing with Dating Violence, Abuse
By Amy Wolff Photos courtesy of BLOOM365
Teen dating violence statistics are staggering. According to a 2018 Centers for Disease Control study one in 11 females, one in 15 males, and one in four LGBTQ+ high school students have experienced physical dating violence in the last year. And roughly one in nine females, one in 36 males, and one in three LGBTQ+ high school students have experienced sexual dating violence.
For Valley nonprofit group BLOOM365, stopping abuse at the root of the problem and preventing dating and domestic violence before it begins, with a special focus on 11 to 24-year-olds, is the ultimate mission.
One of the most unique things about BLOOM365 is its Peer Advocate program. It includes roughly 40 local high school and college students who are trained to recognize the signs of abuse, respond appropriately, and reframe conversations and actions to cultivate a culture of safety, empathy, respect, and consent.
Harshitha Ram, a sophomore at Pinnacle High School, became a peer advocate to be part of something bigger
and help create meaningful change in the lives of her fellow students.
“The work we do at BLOOM365 is something I am very passionate about, and I strongly believe in ending the cycle of abuse in my generation,” she says. “Through the peer advocacy program, I’ve learned how to create an impact within my school and community.
BLOOM365 educates young people on healthy versus unhealthy relationships and helps build skills to avoid controlling, abusive, and violent behaviors both now and later in life. The organization also provides trauma-informed emotional support, counseling, and safety services to enhance healing and well-being for young people who have been victimized.
“My work as a peer advocate is dear to my heart because it means that I can make a difference in the lives and experiences of every person around me,” says Clara McAdams, a junior at Barry Goldwater High School. “When a peer comes to me and discloses interpersonal violence or toxicity in their relationship, the first step I take is to listen. I give them an outlet to express their emotions, fears, and concerns. I

strive to alleviate the silence they have felt in their relationship.”
Peer advocates participate in an immersive and highly engaging training that educates young people ages 13 to 24 years old about the risk factors, red flags, and root causes of domestic, sexual, teen-dating violence, and bullying and how to prevent them. Through the program teens and young adults gain skills they can use to support peers who have experienced unhealthy, controlling, toxic, or abusive friendships or relationships. They also learn steps they can take to create a safe space for survivors to seek help and perpetrators to unlearn abusive behaviors.
“For me, my goal is to always be empathetic and try to understand other people’s perspectives and experiences,” says Nidhi Konanur, a sophomore at Mountain Ridge High School.
After completing the Peer Advocate Academy, participants can apply for a paid Lead Peer Advocate internship position to uproot abuse on their school campuses.

Kids’ Corner Winter Science Experiments for Kids
WINTER SCIENCE
The changing seasons are perfect for incorporating different types of science activities into your learning at home. Kids love themes, and a winter theme makes science so engaging!
The science experiments for kids listed below are fun hands-on experiences to get those little minds thinking. These activities will invite kids to explore, test, think, observe, and discover! Experimenting is great because it leads to discoveries and discoveries spark curiosity.
WINTER SCENT LAB
The sense of smell is amazing, especially since it’s so often connected to memory. Our sense of smell is regulated by the olfactory bulb, which happens to be in the limbic system, the part of the brain where memories are stored. This
science experiment for kids is a fun way to experiment with the sense of smell and how we recognize each different smell we encounter!
To do this experiment, you’ll need:
• 5 small empty glass jars
• Water
• 5 cloves
• A cinnamon stick
• A tablespoon of vanilla extract
• 4 peppermint Altoids
• A sprig of pine or fir tree
• Food coloring
To set up the scent lab, place each of the scented items in separate jars. Add food coloring to the jars to disguise what the smell is – for example, don’t color the cinnamon stick jar red, as color can often be associated with smell. Then, fill the jars with water and close them up.
Let sit for 24 hours to help the water really pick up the smells.
Once the water has absorbed the scents, remove any undissolved items from the jars. Place the finished jars on the table and place sticky notes down with the scents listed on them. Ask your kids to open each jar and match it to one of the sticky notes. Even if they created the scents in the lab, they will enjoy reopening them and matching the scents up!
MELT A SNOWMAN
This is a fun way to introduce a little bit of chemistry to your kiddos. There’s a lot to learn and explore in this hands-on science experiment! Here’s what you’ll need for this activity:
• Baking soda-based fake snow (if you need a recipe, try 1 cup of shaving cream and 1 cup of baking soda)
• White vinegar
• Droppers
• Googley eyes, baby carrots, sticks, and any other items you need to decorate your snowman
First, make the fake snow. Next, have your kids take the snow and make a small snowman on a plate or tray. Don’t forget to decorate and dress him up! Once they’re done, fill droppers with vinegar and let your kids take turns squirting the vinegar on the snowman, making him fizz and “melt” away.
This science experiment is showing what happens when a chemical reaction takes place. A chemical reaction is all about what happens when an acid reacts with a base. In this case, the vinegar and baking soda combine, and carbon dioxide is released causing bubbles and fizzy froth.

understanding and a rich history in the art of forging iron. Our products are hand crafted with the finest steel, exterior artisan paints, and engineered glass.”
So what is the difference between an iron door and a traditional wooden door that most homes and businesses have?
“Wood doors need extensive maintenance and are prone to sagging, drooping, and changing shape,” explains Yagudayev. “Wood doors must be stained and sealed every few years to prevent rotting and keep them looking good. Any door over eight feet tall probably does not have a warranty. Our iron doors need no maintenance, will not change shape or warp, and come galvanized for marine grade corrosion protection.”
The family-owned company, which is home to about 30 employees and sells between 90 to 100 doors a month, specializes in helping customers pick out the perfect door for their needs, he adds.
“Helping customers upgrade their home with spectacular custom iron doors is rewarding for all of us,” Yagudayev shares. “Customers can personally see numerous doors in our new showroom, which is five times the size of our previous showroom. We highlight the many different finishes, sizes, styles, and options to choose from to customize the doors of their dreams. At Iron Doors Arizona, we show our customers the many different types available for purchase so they can see what the finished product will look like.”
“We know it can be overwhelming to search for styles and designs to choose from, which is why we operate our showroom so you can get a better sense of what you like,” he adds. “Customers can walk in and view the single and double options with delicate swirls and strong, modern, clean lines, and choose the ones that will perfectly suit their home or business.”
ADVANTAGES OF IRON DOORS
“It’s about more than just good looks with your iron front doors,” Yagudayev explains. “We appreciate the time and effort customers put into customizing their
choice and we want to make sure they understand the value they get when they add them to their home.”
Some of the benefits of iron doors include:
• Customizable for any entryway, whether single or double.
• Rust-free iron with minimal upkeep necessary.
• Weather-resistant with extremely long-lasting materials.
• An instant boost to your property value.
• Competitive pricing and flexible financing.
Design benefits of iron doors include:
• No visible weld; they are always smooth.
• High-quality dual pane low-e glass with hand applied faux finish.
• Injected polyurethane foam into the door and frame.
• Heavy-duty weather stripping around jamb and glass frame.
• Single pane or dual pane glass based on needs.
• Pre-hung with flush bolts installed and pre-drilled for hardware.
• Solid threshold is integral to the frame.
• Solid 5/8 inch, ¾ inch and 1-inch scrolls welded to a heavy-duty tubing frame.
CUSTOM AND QUALITY
“All of our doors, whether single or double, offer stunning style that incorporates seamlessly into your home and ranges from simple or modern to intricate or old-fashioned,” Yagudayev says. “Curb appeal is instantly upgraded with handcrafted ironwork to create a showstopper that impresses guests, all while the sturdy wrought iron keeps unwanted visitors out of your home for an added sense of security.”
Each door they design comes with a limited lifetime warranty; the best on the market, Yagudayev explains. Also, there are no boring doorknobs here—Iron Doors Arizona is home to a large selection of hand forged door pulls that are designed to enhance the look of the doors.
Worried about ventilation? These doors, he explains, are meant to replace both the traditional wooden and screen doors. The metal screen is magnetic and easy to
take on and off. “Our doors come with dual pane, low-e tempered glass – clear, frosted, patterned options – just to name a few,” Yagudayev says.
If home or business owners are worried that iron doors may be hard to open, he says that couldn’t be further from the truth. “With our special barrel hinges these doors are easy to open and close. Some homeowners even claim that they are easier than their old solid oak doors!”
“When it comes to door design, the sky is the limit and we are experts regarding suggesting options and customizations,” he continues. “We can easily create shapes — from rectangular to arched — and can use glass or screen paneling to put together the entrance of your dreams. Good news: there is no additional cost for a custom design! Our sales team is here to help with the design process every step of the way.”
When it comes to giving back, Yagudayev and Iron Doors Arizona remain committed to their local community. A recent sale gave proceeds back to Phoenix Children’s Hospital and, knowing today’s current climate, Yagudayev shares that he is offering readers another sale: $500 off a single door and $1,000 off double doors.
“We are a one-stop shop and the leader in the industry, which allows customers to easily choose the perfect door, and then schedule the install date,” he says. “From manufacturing your chosen door, to completion of the installation and finishing work, we are with you along the way, communicating and providing professional customer service.”

Hello Neighbor!
HI, MY NAME IS… Lilach Mazor Power. I’VE LIVED IN ARCADIA, AROUND THE CORNER FROM PARADISE VALLEY, FOR THE PAST 16 YEARS AND I LOVE IT BECAUSE… it is a great neighborhood. It is close to the best restaurants and bars, and I can easily get to Biltmore or downtown. It is also a family-friendly neighborhood, and my kids get to ride their bikes to see their friends. It’s the best of both worlds.
A TYPICAL DAY IN MY LIFE INCLUDES… I wake up around 5 a.m. and do an hour of exercise––either Pilates or hot yoga. I drive 25 minutes to my office, and I use that time to listen to the news, a book, or a podcast. I arrive at the office around 7:45 a.m. and I usually have a bunch of meetings and around 150 emails daily related to running the business. The afternoons are often filled with business gathering so I try to pick up my boys at 4 p.m. so I can spend time with them, even if it’s just the ride home before I head out again. I try to cook homemade dinners every night I’m home. I love our family dinners and I am on a mission to teach my boys how to cook their favorite dishes. After the boys are in bed, I’ll have a glass of wine with my husband or while I work. I’m in bed by 11 p.m. I need my six hours of sleep, so I am strict about my bedtime.
MY FAMILY IS… my WHY. I am happily married to the one man in the world (I mean it!) who can tolerate my risky personality and supports me 100% throughout this entrepreneurship rollercoaster. I have two amazing boys: Shai (13) and Ben (8). I am loving this stage in parenthood and really enjoy hanging with them. The rest of my family is all in Israel. It is hard living so far from them. My sisters are my best friends, and my parents are my rock.
ONE THING I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT IS… coffee. I need my coffee.
WHEN I WAS YOUNGER, I WANTED TO BE… the CEO of McDonald’s. I know, it’s weird, but it’s true. I love successful companies and thought I would love to run one when I grow up. I guess I was always attracted to debate driven industries.
THE SONG I WOULD SING AT KARAOKE NIGHT IS… “I Did It My Way,” by Frank Sinatra.
THE ONE PERSON WHO MOTIVATES ME IS… one person is tough; can I choose my team instead? My commitment to making their lives and livelihood better is what pushes me every single morning to make magic happen.
THE PERFECT DAY IS… traveling somewhere new.
MY FAVORITE LOCAL NONPROFIT IS… Arizona Burn Foundation. I was so impressed by their work I joined the board.
MY LIFE IS… a crazy roller coaster. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
THE BEST GIFT I’VE EVER RECEIVED WAS… a ring from one of my favorite employees with the word “Badass” on it. I wear it all the time.
MY DREAM VACATION WOULD BE… anywhere new, where I can still work online, and explore new places, culture, and food. I live to travel, and I hope I’m instilling the same in my boys.
THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE I’VE EVER RECEIVED WAS… “Why fit in when you were born to stand out?” My parents really made me believe it is totally fine to be who I am, which is definitely different. It took me a while to really get it and embrace it. I’m thankful for their guidance.

Luxurynomics –A Tale of Two Zip Codes
By Joseph Callaway
What makes a home “luxury?” Is it price? Age? Lot size? Neighborhood?
Price certainly plays a role but there are condos under a million dollars that can be called “luxury” and there are large lot properties valued over two million that could never be called luxury.
Age is, as they say, only a number. Many older homes have been remodeled to luxury standards and there are newer large size homes with more standard features.
Larger lot size helps to support luxury construction but there are $3 million condos in Kierland.
Neighborhood can define luxury if that was the goal when the developer created it. But there are many examples of overde-
velopment in middle class neighborhoods that meet luxury standards.
Ultimately, luxury is an individual judgment––it is the finishes, the countertops, the appliances, the fixtures, the room sizes, the entry, the grounds, and the feel that set the bar.
Just a thought – in Paradise Valley, luxury features like a staff elevator, a wine cellar, or expansive, unobstructed views of Cam-
elback Mountain are considered luxury features, whereas a zip code over a built-in ironing board in the laundry room is considered luxury. It comes down to what the buyer considers luxury.

Out with the Old, In with the New
By Libby Banks, the Law Office of Libby Banks, PLLC, Estate Planning
As we start the New Year, I want to talk about older methods of estate planning versus newer, more efficient, and cost-effective means of planning.
Your estate is simply what you own. For most reading this article, that at least includes a home, a retirement account, bank accounts and maybe a brokerage account. In the not-so-distant past, planning for your estate at death meant preparing a last will and testament. Today, we use the revocable living trust more often.
There are many benefits to using the revocable living trust, but often people think that only the wealthy need a trust. I think that instead, we should consider the trust as simply the more modern way of planning where your assets go on your death. The trust does that, and more.
HERE ARE A FEW ADVANTAGES OF USING THE TRUST: The Revocable Living Trust Helps You if You Are Incapacitated
Both a will and a revocable living trust contain instructions for distributing your assets after you die. However, a revocable living trust also contains your instructions for managing your assets should you become incapacitated. In the trust, you name your successor trustee who steps into your shoes to pay your bills and manage your finances when you can’t.
A Revocable Living Trust Avoids Probate and Reduces Expenses
A will says who will receive the assets in your estate after your death, but it does
not automatically transfer your assets. Instead, your executor must probate the estate, starting with submitting the will and an application to the probate court and asking the court to appoint them executor. Until they have the appointment papers, they cannot do anything with your estate.
A revocable living trust, on the other hand, appoints your successor trustee who can step in to take charge of your estate promptly. The trustee can quickly gather, sell, and distribute your assets to your beneficiaries with no need for a court’s involvement.
HOW THE TRUST WORKS
When you set up a trust, you transfer assets from yourself to the trust. While you are alive and able, you are the trustee and the only beneficiary. For a married couple, managing your assets in the trust won’t feel much different than it does when you hold your assets in joint tenancy. You maintain full control of your assets, doing the same things with them you did before: write checks, buy, and sell, direct your stockbroker. Even your income tax returns stay the same.
Transferring assets to the trust is also relatively simple. In my office, we transfer all the Arizona real estate into your trust and assist you in retitling your other assets. Once you understand how to title assets, you won’t need to call us unless you want our help.
The revocable living trust makes sense for most of us.

10 Health Resolutions Doctors Encourage You to Make Today
By StatePoint
The New Year represents a fresh start and is the perfect time to invest in your health. However, you may be unsure what resolutions will have the biggest impact. Doctors say that the easy, tangible actions you take are some of the most important.
“Many people kick off the start of each new year with big-picture health resolutions,” says Jack Resneck, Jr., M.D., president of the American Medical Association (AMA). “The good news is that small, positive health choices made right now can have long-lasting effects.” HERE ARE THE 10
RESOLUTIONS THE AMA RECOMMENDS TOP YOUR LIST THIS YEAR:
1. Exercise is essential for your physical and mental health, so get moving today. A good rule of thumb for adults is at least 150 minutes a week of moderateintensity activity, or 75 minutes a week of vigorousintensity activity.
2. Vaccination is the best protection against several serious illnesses. To protect yourself and your family, get up to date on your vaccines, including the annual flu shot and the COVID-19 vaccine for everyone 6 months and older. Your doctor can let you know if you’re due for a COVID booster. If you have questions, speak with your physician, and review trusted resources, including getvaccineanswers.org.
3. Get screened. Estimates based on statistical models show that since April 2020, millions of screenings for breast, colorectal, and prostate cancer diagnoses may have been missed due to pandemic-related care disruptions. Check in with your physician. If you’re due for preventive care, tests or screenings, make an
appointment. These measures are designed to keep you healthy and help your doctor spot certain conditions before they become more serious.
4. High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, can increase your risk of heart attack or stroke, and it affects millions of Americans. Visit manageyourbp.org to understand what your blood pressure numbers mean and what you can do to get your blood pressure under control.
5. One in three American adults has prediabetes, a condition that can lead to type 2 diabetes if left unmanaged. However, there are steps you can take that can help delay or even prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes. Learn your risk by taking a simple two-minute self-screening test at doihaveprediabetes.org. This resource also features helpful lifestyle tips that can help you reverse prediabetes.
6. Whenever possible, drink water instead of sugarsweetened beverages and replace processed foods ––especially those with added sodium and sugar –– with nutritious, whole foods, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, herbs, and spices.
7. If consuming alcohol, drink only in moderation. The U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans defines that as up to one drink per day for women and two drinks per day for men, and only by adults of legal drinking age.
8. Speak with your doctor or health care professional about quitting tobacco and nicotine use. Declare your home and car smokefree to eliminate secondhand smoke exposure.
9. Follow your doctor’s instructions when taking prescription drugs – especially opioids. Always store and dispose of these medications safely to prevent misuse. Whenever prescribed antibiotics, take them exactly as directed. Not taking the full course can lead to antibiotic resistance, a serious public health problem, and will not make you feel better if you have a virus, such as a cold or flu.
10. Invest in your mental health by managing stress, getting sufficient sleep, exercising, and seeking help from a mental health professional when you need it.
If you don’t have health insurance, the AMA encourages you to sign up for coverage at healthcare. gov, which has new, affordable options. The enrollment deadline for 2023 coverage is Jan. 15. Find more health resources at ama-assn.org. For a healthy 2023 and beyond, invest in your wellness with these doctorrecommended New Year’s resolutions.

Health Goals in the New Year
By Dr. Jenna Dye, Naturopathic Physician
Happy New Year! As 2023 rolls in, we may be thinking about our New Year’s resolutions and health goals! I always look forward to a fresh, healthy start by a simple and effective detoxification protocol. This detox can include diet modifications, immune system support, and gentle cleansing and can provide a jump start to optimal health for the entire year.
Detoxification is the process of clearing toxins from the body. A healthy functioning body has the capacity to handle a certain level of toxins day to day. However, there are many factors that can hinder our body’s ability to detoxify and support a healthy immune system. Toxins can be found in our environment, products we use on our skin and clothes, as well as food we ingest. An overload of toxins can weigh down our immune system and accumulate in our cells. This accumulation negatively affects our immune system and can lead to chronic illnesses such as autoimmune diseases, allergies, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and skin conditions.
Our body detoxifies through the following systems:
• The Gastrointestinal System: Liver, gallbladder, and intestines
• The Urinary System: Kidneys and urine
• Respiratory System: Lungs, nose, sinuses
• Integumentary System: Skin (Sweat)
• Lymphatic System
Healthy detox/cleansing tips for optimal health:
• Include whole foods such as fruits and vegetables, nuts, healthy oils, seeds, and healthy fats.
• Eliminate sugar, refined foods, processed foods, canned foods, salt, coffee, cured meats, organ meats.
• Eat organic and fresh when possible.
• Drink filtered water and drink at least ½ your body weight in ounces each day.
• Avoid alcohol and nicotine.
• If you have food sensitivities, it is important to eliminate them during any detox. Doing this will help decrease inflammation and allow the body to detox more efficiently.
• Consume dark leafy greens such as kale, spinach, and dandelion greens. These support the liver and help promote healthy digestion.
• Ensure that you have regular, daily bowel movements. This will aid in the elimination of toxins. If you suffer from gastrointestinal disorders, it is important to find the root cause and support the digestive system.
• Sleep: Your body needs proper rest. Seven to eight hours of sleep will help facilitate the cleansing.
• Exercise: During any detox, regular exercise of at least 30 minutes per day is beneficial. It does not have to be intense, even just walking can be beneficial.
• Breathing: Take the time to breath, we often forget this part. Take breath breaks often and breathe deeply through the nose and exhale through the mouth.
• Keep sinuses and lungs healthy during cleansing, daily neti pot use, or nasal rinses can be helpful.
• Use clean beauty and cleaning products to help support the detox systems.
Cleansing/detoxing can help the body restore itself and help maintain excellent health and wellness. There are many different detoxification protocols. It is always best to check with your doctor to see which methods would be the safest and most beneficial for you. Naturopathic physicians can individualize treatment by supporting foundational health, treating underlying health conditions, and developing specific detox and cleansing protocols specific to your health.
Dr. Jenna Dye is a licensed naturopathic physician. Her role is to support the body’s foundation to restore and maintain optimal health. Together with her patients, this is achieved by identifying and removing barriers that may be impacting health while creating a healing environment. For more information visit drjennadye.com.

NETFLIX
Guillermo del Toro has a habit of bringing the darkness out of fairy tales but still has the beauty in the stories. In stop motion, he finds that balance in the story of “Pinocchio,” the boy that’s trying to be real and seeing his struggles, while the crimes of World War II are represented in a mature way that’s still appropriate for children. Death and found family are also themes. David Bradley, Ewan McGregor, and Gregory Mann breathe life into the characters, and the animation is some of the most impressive of any in recent years. Of course, younger viewers should have some caution, but there’s enough for anyone to fall in love with this incarnation.
about consumerism, death, authority, and more. Yet, none of it is like Noah Baumbach is analyzing it but rather berating you after reading a textbook. None of the characters speak or act like real humans, which results in a waste of the extraordinary cast. The film’s attempts at scale also falter with the ghastly colors and Danny Elfman’s overbearing score, and that’s before we get into one of the most outlandish and ridiculous third acts of any film in recent memory. The production design is quite good, however; you can tell a lot of care went into that.

“Sr.”
A portrait of the filmmaker Robert Downey Sr., told by his son Robert Downey Jr.
“Sr.” is probably the most expensive and high-profile home movie ever made. But there’s a tender nature to it, a sincere homage of a father from a son. It’s a good way to expose the public to Sr.’s work, while also showing how that served the relationship between the two. It’s not too in-depth, and you can’t help but feel that there’s more to show. But it’s still heartfelt enough to make it worthwhile viewing.
“White Noise”
A college professor’s normal life with his family is upended after an event wreaks havoc in their town.
Sometimes, there’s a movie that’s made by someone who clearly thinks they’re the smartest person in the room. This movie is a continuous series of rambles
“Emancipation”
Based on the true story of a man’s journey to freedom during the Civil War.
Making an action film out of a holocaust like slavery is a tough pitch and idea to crack, and “Emancipation” does not get to that. It’s a case of wanting your cake and eating it too, clearly understanding and grasping the nature of its subject but wanting to create tense and “epic” action set pieces akin to something like “The Revenant.” This film feels rather exploitative of its subject rather than a tribute due to how heavy it features pain and trauma. Its usage of a black and white color palette mixed with small colors is admirable, but doesn’t really fit the film and is rather fake looking given the time it’s set in. And, while you can tell the cast are all working their best to make the film work, it is in service of a misguided piece.

Getaway
Albuquerque, New Mexico, is home to a fresh hotel concept from hospitality curator Dr. Sharmin Dharas. An unforgettable immersive boutique hotel located on Route 66 in the historic Nob Hill neighbor, the recently re-imagined Hotel Zazz boasts unique, eclectic rooms that feature vibrant colors and motifs that reflect Dr. Dharas’ East Indian culture.
Dr. Dharas renovated the boutique hotel with colorful art, a melody of chromatic visuals, and a vibration of sounds that sets Hotel Zazz apart. From mustard yellows to Indian Ocean blues, Dr. Dharas’ upbringing shines through in the hotel upgrades––East Indian culture features bold colors and spices that Dr. Dharas drew inspiration upon for Hotel Zazz.
“The vibrancy and life of my culture has been at the heart of the Hotel Zazz design, says Dr. Dharas. “I hope this project brings a new colorful culture and experience to the already diverse Albuquerque community, in a different way than we’re used to.”
Working hard and getting the hard work done was instilled in Dr. Dharas from a young age. Her parents used their income from a hotel to give Dr. Dharas an education, another common trait within her culture, so that she could bring luck and prosperity back to the family. Hospitality was a calling to Dr. Dharas. From treating guests with respect to making them as comfortable as they can be, she’s set her sights on offering guests the utmost care and compassion at Hotel Zazz.
The 48 sensory inspired guestrooms and suites at Hotel Zazz are each decorated differently and feature bold color combinations with whimsical murals or tilework. Combining a retro feel to the modern styling, colorful mini fridges complement each room’s coffee area, while soft textiles adorn the comfortable beds. All rooms are custom designed and tastefully appointed with keyless entry, fast Wi-Fi, and 50-inch televisions that include Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon. Meanwhile, the bathrooms feature custom bath products, marble walk-in showers with rain shower heads and wands, plus robes and slippers.
The eclectic look extends to the outdoor and event spaces. At every turn, you’ll find pops of color and fun elements. Outdoor couches in bright teals and
greens sit alongside interesting sculptures, and a giant chess board where guests are invited to test their skills. There’s a lawn with rocking chairs and a fire pit too. Meanwhile, the heated pool offers comfortable loungers and poolside cabanas. Throughout the property, there are also filtered water stations.
The Z-Lounge speakeasy and patio provide a welcoming spot for a cocktail (or two) to take in the blue skies, warm breezes, and richly hued sunsets New Mexico is known for. If you prefer to venture out, entertainment options abound nearby. Located a half mile from the University of New Mexico and the University of New Mexico Hospital, and only three miles from Kirtland Air Force Base, the area is full of restaurants, bars, and shopping within walking distance.
