SPOTLIGHT ON: HORSES HELP

W

ith over 475,000 special-needs individuals in Maricopa County, horses are used to create a unique relationship with those with physical, cognitive and emotional barriers. The horse can play a significant role in helping relax muscles, stretch limbs, increase coordination and encourage interaction with another species and with people. The movement of the horse’s walk mimics the human gait which can assist in recovery or improved movement for the person. Participants interact with the horses at many different levels, from tacking and riding to grooming and leading.

Horses Help (HH), a PATH International Premier Accredited 501c-3 non-profit Equine Assisted Activity and Learning Center, uses horses to service up to 150 special needs and at-risk community participants each week. This could not be possible without tremendous horses; along with a dedicated staff and a community of volunteers and donors that have wholly embraced HH’s mis-

sion, vision and values. “We invite you to immerse yourself in the ‘Culture of Service’.

Inspire people to stretch their boundaries and be remembered by how you make them feel. Participate in life!” says Gregg Goodman, Executive Director.

A staff of instructors certified through PATH Intl. and contracted therapists through the American Hippotherapy Association work to develop participants’ physical, cognitive and emotional abilities.

Each week Horses Help serves participants ranging from four years of age to seniors. Volunteers are vitally important to the daily functioning of the facility, including: feeding and care of horses, turning out of horses, and preparing horses for and assisting with lessons. Horses used in this program are typically retired show, trail or ranch horses that are quiet and good-natured to aid in supporting the development of their specialneeds partners. Increasing physical abilities is one benefit but more than this is the ability to help emotionally troubled youth find a willing listener. A horse can create space between a frustrated, angry person and nuzzle that same person when he/she relaxes and trusts the horse. The old adage is so true: The outside of the horse is good for the inside of man.

MIM MUSIC THEATER ANNOUNCES FALL 2017 CONCERT SERIES THE MIM MUSIC THEATER PROUDLY ANNOUNCES THEIR FALL 2017 CONCERT SERIES SPONSORED IN PART BY SANDERSON LINCOLN. It includes more than forty-five concerts from September through December, spanning multiple genres from across the globe.

The series promises to be their most diverse line up yet. Highlights include a soulful performance by Irma Thomas and the Blind Boys of Alabama, with the Preservation Hall Legacy Quintet, who are touring together for the first time. Wu Man will help celebrate MIM’s new exhibition opening in November by performing traditional, ancient, and historic music of China. The Sachal Ensemble, inspired by the acclaimed documentary film of the same name, merge Eastern and Western sounds while confronting terrorism in their native homeland of Pakistan.

NEW LOCAL ART GALLERY CHANGING PERCEPTION OF THE ART WORLD PHILLIP AND GABI PAYNE, HUSBAND AND WIFE TEAM WHO RECENTLY OPENED DESERT MOUNTAIN FINE ART HAVE BEEN IMMERSED IN ART FOR MOST OF THEIR LIVES. Phillip’s father, Ken Payne is a world-renowned bronze sculptor.

Phillip grew up playing in his gallery and with this art supplies. Phillip has been producing bronze sculptures for 15 years. Gabi, a painter was introduced to visual arts through her mother. She follows her heart and makes up her own rules in creating dynamic, colorful works using her father-in-law’s palette knife to paint. The Paynes opened Desert Mountain Fine Art gallery to make art more accessible and inclusive.

They celebrate the dreamers – the artists who want to spread joy and happiness through their art. The gallery showcases a variety of original works with a surprising range of value including western, pop, photography, contemporary and bronze sculptures. Artists include B.C. Nowlin, Ken Payne, and Bette Ridgeway. The gallery is also a true studio where artists actively create art – sculpting and painting, lecturing and

teaching classes. Phillip and Gabi want the gallery to be a local cultural center and host regular events to achieve this. The First Friday events held the first Friday of every month unveils a new work and often a charity is supported through donations. On October 6, a special event The Human Figure will host guest artist Paige Bradley who will unveil never before seen work. Guests will hear from Bradley about her process and inspiration. STEP BY STEP, ADOT FACIAL RECOGNITION PROCESS GUARDS AGAINST IDENTITY FRAUD SYSTEMATIC CHECKS OCCUR IN BACKGROUND, FOLLOWED HUMAN REVIEW SINCE THE ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION BEGAN USING FACIAL RECOGNITION TECHNOLOGY AND TRAINING IN 2015 TO PROTECT ARIZONANS FROM IDENTITY THEFT, DETECTIVES HAVE BROUGHT MORE THAN 100 CASES TO COURT. It’s a process that begins when a person applies for or renews a driver license or ID card at a Motor Vehicle Division office or Authorized Third Party business, and it is a seamless part of the customer’s visit.

trained staff members at ADOT’s Office of Inspector General where they undergo three levels of review to verify that the photos are of the same person.

“This high-tech tool has really enhanced our ability to catch identity thieves,” said Michael Lockhart, chief of the Office of Inspector General. “When we couple this technology with other security measures like central credential issuance, it allows us to stop these criminals and keep Arizona IDs out of their hands.”

After the customer’s picture is taken, the photo goes through a check against all others in the state driver license database while the customer finishes the application process.

The detectives and staff members are trained to look for similarities in facial features and even account for identical twins. If photos are confirmed to be the same person on multiple profiles, ADOT detectives will open an investigation.

All of the analysis takes place inside a computer, and if the system finds the applicant’s photo likely matches another photo under a different name, it flags the photos, putting a temporary stop on printing the permanent card. The photos are then sent to FBI-

If detectives determine that a person is committing fraud, the license or ID card is never printed. The temporary credentials customers receive at MVD offices and Authorized Third Party businesses expire after 30 days.

ADOT’s Office of Inspector General investigates fraud involving driver license and identification card applications; vehicle sales by licensed and unlicensed dealers; and vehicle titles and registration. It also assists state, local and federal law enforcement agencies with investigations.

CELEBRATES 30 YEARS OF QUALITY EDUCATION THIS YEAR, PARADISE VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE (PVCC) CELEBRATES ITS 30TH ANNIVERSARY. What began as The Northeast Valley Education Center in 1985 and was then dedicated as PVCC in 1987 is now a comprehensive community college serving the Northeast Valley.

Before the students, the campus and signature programs like Nursing and Fire Science, there was just a piece of land and a great need for a college in the Northeast Valley. Someone who was instrumental in getting the college up and running is Beth Koehnemann, Paradise Valley Community Council Chair. She said that it was the surrounding community that really made the college a reality.

“Out of the three colleges built about the same time (Chandler, Litchfield Park and PVCC), PVCC was the only one who had to find land, pass a bond issue in the immediate area and help to lift a building moratorium imposed by the, then, State Community College Board. To accomplish these feats, our local and national elected officials plus hordes of citizens, teachers, school hierarchy, high school and college students, from Cave Creek, Carefree as well as the Greater Paradise Valley area, banded together for the common cause. They manned phone banks for the bond issue passage and attended scores of meetings. As one of the District’s officials said to me after the dedication, ‘This is truly a community college,’” said Koehnemann.

The school has been embedded in the community ever since.

According to the PVCC website and college president, Dr. Paul Dale, when the college opened its doors in the Fall 1987, 3,781 students were enrolled; today the school serves close to 9,000 students annually. Over its 30 years, the college has educated 166,889 students in the Northeast Valley and conferred over 13,513 degrees and/or certificates.

Dale said, “Over the past 30 years, PVCC has grown to be a fully comprehensive community college inclusive of the addition of niche occupational programs, extensive cocurricular programs, fine and performing arts, intercollegiate athletics and the establishment of the Black Mountain site to serve northern Maricopa County and the communities of Cave Creek and Carefree.”

Dale said that the school’s most notable contribution to the community is student success. He said that students from PVCC “do as well or slightly better than the ‘native’ university students when it comes to completion and graduation rates.” He also said that there are over 4,300 former PVCC students enrolled in one of the three state universities, Grand Canyon and many out-of-state universities each semester. The certificate and AAS degree programs allow students to directly enter the workforce.

Two PVCC alumni who met while in school started a restaurant together and attribute some of their success to their time at PVCC. Tom D’Ambrosio and Kyle Hollenbeck’s business venture, Aioli Burgers, started with one truck, grew into three, became a full catering company, and now they have a brick and mortar location, according to the Alumni Association’s page on the school website. “Kyle credits the support he received in PVCC’s Tutoring Center with his appreciation for and success in his math coursework at PVCC. As the mathematician behind this business venture, Kyle utilizes his PVCC educa-

tion daily. While students at PVCC, they both worked in the restaurant business and envisioned the day when they would own a restaurant.”

D’Ambrosio and Hollenbeck aren’t the only ones who appreciated the support they received while at PVCC. Musician, James Austin Murray, known as JAM, “credits the outstanding faculty at PVCC with his commitment to this college,” according to the Alumni Association page. “JAM loves performing on campus and is giving back to PVCC in several ways. JAM energized the graduates at the 27th Annual PVCC Commencement in May 2017 with ‘Believe It’s Possible.’

He performed classic rock songs for PVCC’s annual Fine and Performing Arts Scholarship fund-raiser.”

Though student success is at the forefront of PVCC’s mission, the college provides more than just classes for credit; it also continues to serve the Northeast Valley by offering enrichment opportunities to the community.

Dale said, “We provide courses that all ages can take; additionally, our Fitness Center hosts a very well subscribed Silver Sneakers program, and during the summer months, numerous discipline specific camps are held on campus including fine and performing arts, math and science, and creative writing.”

PVCC’s commitment to the com-

munity has never been stronger. Dale said, “Students who leave PVCC are equipped as critical and creative thinkers with life-long learning value, and it is my sincerest hope that many of our students are also able to make positive change in their places of work, communities and local neighborhoods. It is literally the thousands of PVCC alumni making the greater Phoenix metropolitan area, the state of Arizona and many other communities a better place for all.”

The community is invited to celebrate with PVCC. Fall events include: On Sept. 22, A Musical Tribute to the 1980s will be performed by the PVCC Faculty Rock Band and Special Guests in the Center for the Performing Arts; in Oct. Spirit Week will feature games, music, and food trucks; on Oct. 5, the PVCC Faculty Jazz Concert will be held in the Center for the Performing Arts, $8-$20 admission; on Oct. 11, the International Film Festival - Film #4 will take place in the Center for the Performing Arts, free admission, and on Oct. 13, Alice Cooper’s Proof Is in The Pudding Battle of the Bands – Quarterfinals Round takes over the Center for the Performing Arts, free admission.

MAXIMIZING THE VALUE OF YOUR BUSINESS

ach year, all kinds of businesses, large and small, are sold here in the Phoenix Metro Area. Unfortunately, many owners don’t take all the steps they should to maximize the value of their businesses. Here are some things a business owner can do to ensure that the business generates the highest possible value at the time of the sale.

1. GET ALL THE DUCKS IN A ROW “A business owner needs to make sure that the books and records are in order,” says Jeffrey Corallo, CPA. “Step one is having proper accounting for the business. If the business owner doesn’t have the time, hiring a bookkeeper or accountant is a good idea — although they don’t need to be a fulltime employee of the business. There are plenty of bookkeeping services and contractors that can come into a business just for the time needed.

“Next, make sure the business taxes are paid and current,” says Corallo.

“Again, if the business owner doesn’t have the time, hiring a payroll service, accountant or CPA is a great way to ensure compliance.

“Last but not least, a CPA can be a great sounding board to help you plan the sale, review the work your accountant or bookkeeper has done, and to help ensure your taxes are in compliance,” Corallo adds.

2. CONSIDER PHANTOM STOCKS One way to increase the value of a business is to ensure that the new

owner still has valuable employees in place. “For companies that have key employees, phantom stocks are helpful to retain these individuals for the new owner,” says Brian Bond, Strategic Business Brokers Group.

A phantom stock plan is an employee benefit plan that gives selected employees many of the benefits of stock ownership without actually giving them company stock. This is sometimes referred to as shadow stock. The phantom stock follows the pricing movements of the company’s actual stock and pays out profits to employees. It is a great way to ensure employee loyalty, interest and active participation in the change of ownership.

3. SELL ON AN UPSWING It may seem like common sense, but it is a good idea to sell when your sales are trending up, not flat and, of course, not when they are declining.

This might be particularly appropriate when a relative is buying the family business, or perhaps when trusted employees or management gets together to buy out the current owner.

6. GET GUIDANCE Obviously, maximizing the value of a business is more than just these five

tips and there are more people who can assist you with valuable advice: • As mentioned, consult with the bookkeeper, accountant or CPA about the accounting and taxes.

• Discuss the sale with an attorney. A business attorney will provide advice on the necessary legal contracts and procedures. An estate planning attorney might be useful if family inheritance is involved.

• At the very least, examine the online strategy and social media with a marketing professional.

• In addition, business owners might want to work with a business broker.

What is a business broker? Think of a broker much like you would a real estate agent. It is the broker’s job to advertise the sale, find potential buyers and help with the closing, as well as advising clients on how to maximize the value of the business.

• After the sale, a financial advisor might be the right person to help invest and protect that hard-earned money.

4. CLEAN UP YOUR MARKETING “Outdated websites, social media and marketing materials tend to send a message that a business has let things slide. It makes potential buyers wonder what else isn’t quite up to snuff,” says Jen Wolfe, Wolfe Creative. “Take the time (and spend the money) to update the website and printed marketing materials.

“Then business owners (or their social media experts) should go through all social media with a fine-tooth comb. It is a good idea to get rid of any online negative comments whenever possi-

TO A PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL GAME

F

ootball season has arrived! A football game is a great way to get your kids out of the house on the weekend and can be a fun, outdoor and indoor learning experience for the whole family. We have been Cardinals season ticket holders for many years and always enjoy going to the games. This year we got an extra ticket so our seven year old can attend all of the home games with us. She has been to a few games over the years, but is now old enough to appreciate the noise, excitement and commence cheering for our team.

Attending a football game is a major event and can cost a lot of money, so take time to plan ahead and maximize your enjoyment. Here are a few things we recommend when taking a kid to a professional football game.

TICKETS Scope out your seats and buy tickets in a location that works best for your family. Upper level seating can be a bit quieter and is less expensive. While the club level is more expensive, it also has a less rowdy crowd and great options for taking care of restless or over stimulated children. Be aware that you must have a ticket for your child (although an infant who is small enough can sit on your lap - check with team’s website before you go to verify what age gets in free).

PARKING Know where to park and the directions for getting into the parking lot and then the stadium. The parking lots range from near to far and cover a huge area – take time to know where you plan to park and, if possible, purchase passes in advance to make walking into the stadium easier.

FOOD Anticipate meal times and plan food purchases and locations before you go. There are many food options in the stadium, but Westgate also has tons of great places to eat – better food at a better price. Plan mealtimes to make sure your kids stay on schedule and avoid the crankiness. You are not allowed to bring snacks and beverages into the stadium.

SAFETY Plan your safety and exit strategies – know how to keep track of your children and when to bail on watching the game.

PRE-GAME ACTIVITIES There are many activities for both adults and kids to enjoy before the game. The Cardinals organization loves kids and provides events inside the gates for people waiting to enter the stadium, including: cheerleader autographs, football toss, photos, food, gift shops, freebies and handouts and much more.

PARTICIPATE IN THE CARDINALS KIDS CLUB The Kids Club is open to kids aged 5 to 13, the Cardinals Kids Club is a great way to help your kids get excited about going to a football game. Some of the benefits of Kids Club include the opportunity for kids to hangout with players after training camp practice, be a Training Camp Junior Reporter, and even sign up to be randomly selected as a Kids Club Captain at home game Coin Toss. A few other highlights for kids include: the Cardinals mascot, Big Red, the Cardinals Cheerleaders, the Junior Cheer program, and the NFL Newborn Fan Club.

BE PREPARED FOR NOISE AND HOOPLA There is some controversy among

fans about whether a professional football game is an appropriate venue for a child. With that in mind, please remember that a football crowd can be loud, very excited and at times can become really rowdy.

If you are concerned about exposing your child to adults engaging in less than adult-like behavior, check out the stadium layout in advance to find places to take your kid to get out of the crowd. Many parents also bring headphones and a mobile device with movies, music or games to help smaller children avoid the noise. My advice – you know your kid best. Think about how they will react to huge, noisy crowds and sudden loud sounds. Some kids absolutely love football – others not so much.

The most important thing to prepare for is to have fun and enjoy cheering for your team. Football is a game, and games are all about having fun. This should be a fun adventure with your kids - make it one of the lifetime memories for your whole family.

oo often, we compromise our needs for the demands that life seems to bring. One of the most pivotal and essential concepts that we at The Hippie Hobby believe in is the importance of self-care.

Below, we’ll discuss the nature of selfcare and its place within The Hippie Hobby with Co-Owner Heidi Koffman.

To start, could you please discuss your involvement with The Hippie Hobby?

I’m a co-owner of the Hippie Hobby. My friend Jen is the other owner. My specific role in the business is testing and trying different crafts and working with my partner to figure out the best craft for the upcoming months. I also work with local bar and restaurant managers who are open to hosting craft nights. Jen and I work well together on dividing up how the process works.

How did The Hippie Hobby start?

We started this just over two years ago, when I was burned out from another

business I own – and having a hard time being the entrepreneur with a limited social life at the time. I missed getting together with friends and wanted to find something new. I put a post out on Facebook to see if anyone wanted to come learn how to make soap, saying I would provide the materials and go from there. I love wine, so we had a girls wine night with four friends and learned how to make soap. My friend Jen suggested we learn to make lip balm and have little kits, so we did another girls night the following month and more people came.

When others couldn’t make our craft night, they asked us to mail them a kit… and so we began mailing “craft kits” to our friends. We started offering the subscription option and have continued to grow ever since.

Wow, what an awesome start! In addition to essential oils, HH promotes self-care as part of its mission. What exactly is self-care?

We truly believe you just need a time out. Whether that’s from work, life, kids, being a mom or wife or being a stressed out entrepreneur. Life is hard. Self-care

can be a bath with candles, a book, crafting, drinking wine and listening to music…or spending it with a friend on their back patio. It’s basically MAKING time for you.

How did the practice of self-care come into your life?

This is a two-part answer. When I started the thought of Hippie Hobby, it was because I was sick of owning businesses LOL. I owned 3 at the time. I needed a hobby. I wanted be more than my companies, which is when I started to learn how to craft.

About a year after we launched our girl’s nights, my best friend Mary Fa’anunu was murdered in an act of domestic violence. I fell into a huge depression and was more overwhelmed with business than anything else.

Thank you so much for sharing, I can’t imagine the pain of such a horrific tragedy. How do you continue to get through this?

I thought about everything in my life, and if it didn’t bring me joy, I got rid of

it. I sold one business, cut my role out of another one and really tried to get more involved in The Hippie Hobby. Mainly because crafting and spending time with friends makes me happy. I also realized I needed to be extra forgiving of myself and very patient.

I love how you look at growth and focus on small wins. Overall, why do you advocate for self-care?

I advocate for self-care because I know what it’s like to not take care of you. I know how depressed and anxious I felt when I took care of everyone else but me.

I gained weight, my skin looked like crap, my attitude sucked and life just seemed overwhelming.

What an incredible story, and what makes it all the more magical is how everything connects back with The Hippie Hobby. So many of these experiences show themselves in the message.

FIVE EASY WAYS FAMILIES CAN GO GREEN WHEN PACKING HEALTHY SCHOOL LUNCHES

W

hile packing lunch for the kids can seem like a daily grind, you can use the task as an opportunity to help kids form great lifelong habits.

Here are five small ways changing your lunch-making routine can have large, positive impacts on the environment, your wallet and your kids’ health.

1. PACK WITH REUSABLES On average, a school-age child with a lunch packed in single-serve disposable materials like plastic snack bags or juice boxes generates 67 pounds of waste per school year, which equates to 18,760 pounds of lunch waste for an average-size elementary school, according to the estimates of Waste Free Lunches, a non-profit organization.

Reduce your contribution to this waste and save money in the process with reusable containers. Waste Free Lunches estimated that choosing only reusable containers can save you almost $250 per person, per year. 2. CHOOSE MADE IN USA The “Three Rs” - Reduce, Reuse and Recycle - are a great refrain for environmentalists, but to ensure your family’s daily habits are minimally impacting the environment, consider adopting the simple act of choosing Made in USA products. This small change automatically reduces one’s carbon footprint by a magnitude of 10, according to a recent study conducted by Nalgene Outdoor, which offers a vast variety of BPA- and BPS free reusable water and food containers in a myriad of colors and designs, ranging in size from 12-ounces to 48-ounces. You can help explain the significance of buying Made in USA products to kids by telling them it’s like leaving a light on for 30 minutes vs. three minutes.

3. BUY FOOD LOCAL Without a doubt, the most nutrientrich and often most cost-effective way

to procure fresh produce is locally.

Additionally, anything sourced within 100 miles of home has a significantly lower carbon footprint than something that has traveled through hemispheres to reach your grocery store shelves.

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), co-ops and farmers markets are popular ways to find local produce direct from farmers. Check out localharvest.org to find a program near you.

4. DIY GRAB-AND-GO SNACKS Prepackaged snacks are often priced at a premium and rarely offer nutritious enrichment, but with just a little prep work, you can create your own healthy options more affordably.

“I try to choose storage containers that are already pre-portioned so I know the portion that I’m packing,” says Peggy O’Shea Kochenbach, a registered dietitian nutritionist. “Pack nutritious items like fruits, vegetables and nuts in clear containers in the pantry or refrigerator on Sunday, so that they are ready to ‘grab and go’ for the week.”

For safety, store items in BPS- and BPA-free reusable containers, such as those from Nalgene Outdoor Products, which offers a line of reusable storage containers that are clear, ranging in size from 4-ounces to 16-ounces and that are also dishwasher safe.

5. GREEN YOUR CLEAN-UP Parents should seek reusable items that can both sustain kids’ rough and tough daily activities, but also survive the dishwasher. Close label reading shows that many reusable lunch containers suggest “hand washing.” However, items that are dishwasher-safe can keep your household saner, cleaner and greener. For your family, cleaning is easy-peasy; and for the environment, research shows a good dishwasher saves 3,870 gallons of water over its lifetime and uses less energy than conventional models, which helps reduce air pollution and combat global climate change, according to the ENERGY STAR program.

Reviewed by A.D. Beal DUNKIRK Telling three interconnected stories, Dunkirk focuses on the 1940 evacuation of British and French troops as the German army advances closer.

Christopher Nolan’s latest has it all. The entire cast (from the heavyweights like Tom Hardy and Mark Rylance to the newcomers like Fionn Whitehead to Harry Styles) work great whether on their own or together, despite very little dialogue.

The film goes at a breathless pace that constantly keeps you at the edge of your seat. It’s one of the best looking films, with cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema (Interstellar) providing some of his best work yet. It also helps that the film was shot on film, and I highly recommend you find a theater playing it in 70MM.

ANNABELLE: CREATION Annabelle: Creation focuses on a couple that bring in a group of orphans, but find that something that could be their long dead daughter is haunting the girls

THE DARK TOWER Based on the novel series by Stephen King, The Dark Tower focuses on the quest of the last remaining Gunslinger, Roland, and Jake, a boy who sees visions of The Man In Black, to stop him from destroying the title tower.

Between Annabelle: Creation and Ouija: Origin Of Evil, I like this trend of prequels to bad movies that are far superior. Director David F. Sandberg (Lights Out) shows his talents in building suspension and giving of genuinely effective jump scares (even if they do go a bit overboard). Most of the performances, from Janice (Talitha Bateman) and Linda (Lulu Wilson) have a believable friendship, to the Mullins’ (Anthony LaPaglia and Miranda Otto) and Sister Charlotte (Stephanie Sigman), do give the sense of dread that the film is going for. The film does cleverly tie into the first Annabelle despite mostly being a standalone film (and also justifies a plot point the first film that always bugged me), though how would be veering into spoiler territory. Also, stick around until the end credits to get a small peek for what The Conjuring universe has next.

I’ll be upfront: I haven’t read any of the Dark Tower books prior to the film, so I’m judging it on its own. And to be fair, director and co-writer Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair) did do an okay job with what he had. Idris Elba and newcomer Tom Taylor work well together as Roland and Jake, respectively, and the film does have some nice cinematography. However, the film’s plot reeks of cliches, and I felt that the film doesn’t feel very grandiose, despite the story they were trying to tell. Also, shame on this movie for wasting the talents of Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen) and Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road).

WIND RIVER When a teenager is found murdered on a Native American reservation, a tracker (Jeremy Renner) and an FBI agent work together to find her murderer.

Taylor Sheridan, writer of Sicario and Hell Or High Water, proves his talent in directing as well with this film. Despite the film’s nearly two hour runtime, the film never feels like it’s dragging. It pulls no punches, and the main characters are flawed, but you feel sympathy for them. I really can’t say much more, you just have to see it.

oin the fun at Arizona State Parks and Trails award-winning Family Campout Program this fall! The program gives kids a break from electronics and introduces them to new outdoor adventures for oneweekend at a state park.

The program is ideal for those new to camping but all are welcome to share in this weekend experience. An activity filled weekend could include fishing, archery, mountain biking, hiking, or birding, depending on the date and park chosen. eading a sedentary lifestyle can have a serious impact on one’s health. In fact, too much sitting can increase your risk of cardiovascular disease, according to the American Heart Association, which cites a study that showed that adults who watch more than four hours of television daily had a 46 percent increased risk of death and an 80 percent increased risk of cardiovascular disease.

Unfortunately, work environments are not always conducive to physical activity, with tight deadlines and long to-do lists often gluing people to their work stations for hours on end.
