YOUR GUIDE TO LOCAL DINING
MAJERLE’S SPORTS GRILL
By Jamie Killin
Founded by Phoenix Suns’ Ring of Honor inductee and three-time All-Star basketball player Dan Majerle, Majerle’s Sports Grill is a testament to his legend status in Arizona. Majerle, who now serves as head coach for the Grand Canyon University’s men’s basketball team, created the concept because he saw a need for highquality, fun and comfortable restaurants close to sports arenas and hotels to serve both professional athletes and community members.
He opened the first Majerle’s Sports Grill location in downtown Phoenix nearly three decades ago, and the popular concept has grown to include four locations including the original, one at Chandler Fashion Center, one in Flagstaff near the legendary Route 66 and one at Desert Ridge, which opened in 2015.
The Desert Ridge location provides a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere with 25 flat screen TVs to ensure sports fans never miss a minute of their favorite team’s game. It’s a great spot for nearly any occasion — sports lovers watching the game, groups of friends wanting a fun night out and family dinners.
The location boasts a large patio with plenty of seating, a fireplace, outdoor games like cornhole and even live music. This location is also well-equipped to handle large parties and events, for groups as small as 15 or all the way up to 275 people with catering options and projector screens. The restaurant’s extensive menu doesn’t disappoint either — with everything from sports bar favorites like the Gorilla Wings and Old School Nachos appetizers to lighter meal options like the Devney’s Strawberry Fields Chicken Salad. Majerle’s truly has something for everyone, with eight salads, eight burgers, ten sandwiches, endless build-your-own pizza options and specialty entrees like the Majerle’s Tacos and the Mac ‘n Cheese.
Top picks include the fried jalapeno burger topped with shredded lettuce, pepper jack cheese, avocado and fried jalapenos drizzled with chipotle mayo, as well as the Proski’s Rajun Cajun sandwich with spicy grilled chicken breast topped with Swiss cheese, crisp bacon, avocado, sprouts and tomatoes.
Diners can finish their meal with the ice cream, a root beer float, Slye’s Brownie Sundae, Eva’s Caramel Churros or restaurant favorite, The GCU Triple Double (‘Lopes Up’) which features a half-baked chocolate chip cookie topped with vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce and whipped cream.
Majerle’s Sports Grill also serves up a variety of premium and craft local beers, wines and specialty cocktails for your next night out.
Majerle’s Sports Grill Desert Ridge is located at 21001 N Tatum Blvd #96 in Phoenix. For more information, visit majerles.com or call (480) 5854999.
