PVSCHOOLS GOVERNING BOARD PRESIDENT SELECTED FOR 2022

Recently, the PVSchools Governing Board voted to elect Susan Matura as president for 2022. Matura, who has served as a board member since 2019, will be taking over for outgoing president Anne Greenberg. This is her first time serving as president of the PVSchools Governing Board. She and her husband have lived in Arizona for more than 20 years and have three children, one of which is a current student in PVSchools. Matura is actively involved in her children’s schools, serving on the PTO Board for eight years, two as president. She is also a member of United Parent Council (UPC) and served one year as a UPC Executive Officer. Additionally, she has served on several district committees and on a school’s site council. Her term runs through December 2022.

SHADOW MOUNTAIN’S AFJROTC PROGRAM ACHIEVES HIGHEST UNIT ASSESSMENT RATING

The Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) program at Shadow Mountain High School recently earned an overall unit assessment rating of “Exceeds Standards,” the highest attainable rating. Lt. Col. (Ret.) William H. Bones and SMSgt (Ret.) Chadrick W. Hayden created a dynamic and supportive learning environment coupled with an excellent community outreach effort. “Shadow Mountain High School cadets performed exceptionally well and took great pride in leading and accomplishing their unit goals,” according to PVSchools. “The AFJROTC citizenship program at Shadow Mountain High School is positively impacting the cadets, the school, and the community.”

ELEVEN PV SCHOOLS HONORED WITH PBISAZ AMAZING AWARDS

The 2021 PBISAZ amAzing Award recognizes schools for successful implementation and outcomes with school-wide systems of Positive Behavior Interventions during the COVID-19 pandemic. The district schools receiving the recognition are: Boulder Creek Elementary School, Cactus View Elementary School, Copper Canyon Elementary School, Desert Cove Elementary School, Desert Shadows Elementary School, Desert Trails Elementary School, Fireside Elementary School, Greenway Middle School, James P. Lee Early Childhood Learning Center, North Ranch Elementary School, and Shea Middle School. Congratulations!

Kindergarten Registration Now Open at CCUSD Community Invited to “Future Falcon” Events to Learn More

Cave Creek Unified School District (CCUSD) is registering for kindergarten for the 2022-2023 school year. Kindergarten classes are found at these A+ schools: Black Mountain Elementary, Lone Mountain Elementary, Desert Sun Academy, Horseshoe Trails Elementary, and Desert Willow Elementary.

The mission of CCUSD is to provide an innovative, high-quality learning experience for all students. By facilitating strategies to develop curious, resilient, critical-thinking problem-solvers, students and educators will be empowered to make a difference, while inspiring excellence in our families, community, and world.

WHAT ARE THE AGE REQUIREMENTS?

Students must turn five on or before August 31. If your child turns 5 after August 31, you can apply for early entrance testing if their birthday is before December 31, 2022. Students can also attend one of CCUSD’s on-site Pre-K programs for students who are 3 or 4 years old.

Locals are welcome to one of CCUSD’s Future Falcon kindergarten events to learn more. Events take place on February 17, 4-5 p.m.; March 15, 4-5 p.m.; April 13, 4-5 p.m.; and May 13, 9:30-11 a.m.
