PROFILE ON LOCAL BUSINESS: STEVE REMENAP

MY COMPANY IS…

Ideal Networks Technology Solutions and The Idealistic Creative Marketing.

A TYPICAL DAY IN MY LIFE INCLUDES…

Thankfully I am blessed to have incredibly varied daily experiences. Having two divergent companies allows for different opportunities and keeps things interesting and challenging.

MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT LIVING/WORKING IN DEER VALLEY IS…

The people, and the close proximity of Lake Pleasant is excellent too!

YOUR FAVORITE MOVIE YOU COULD NEVER GET TIRED OF WATCHING AND WHY...

Shawshank Redemption. A rare combination of incredible story coupled with the perfect cast and amazing filmmaking. There is never a time I run across it flipping channels that I don’t stop for whatever is left of the movie.

MY FAMILY…

I have a beautiful, smart, incredibly cool daughter that is a sophomore. While I only know what she’s talking about 75 percent of the time, I’m still impressed with her ability to grow and handle new situations every day. She is a great person, and I’m proud to be a part of her life.

THE BUSINESS LESSON I LEARNED THE HARD WAY IS…

He who speaks first loses. When I was a kid in Michigan I mowed lawns and shoveled snow for money when I wasn’t at school. For the first couple years (from about 9-12) I was TELLING my potential client the amount I wanted to charge for the job. I was getting around 2-5 dollars to complete the task. One day I spoke to a new client that was about the nicest old lady in the world. I decided to try something new. I told her I would do the job for her, and at the end she could pay me what she felt it was worth. That was a transformative experience for me. After bringing me lemonade and praising my work all day, she gave me $20! I would have asked for $5. Moral to the story, get out of your own way. It’s not what you think what you are doing is worth, it’s what the market will bear for it’s value.

ONE THING I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT…

Music. Been a musician most of my life, and couldn’t live without it’s cathartic release.

WHEN I WAS YOUNGER, I WANTED TO BE…

A fighter pilot, like everyone else my age.

THE SONG I WOULD SING AT KARAOKE NIGHT IS...

I have several go to songs. Pearl Jam, STP, Otis Redding, and Prince are all artists I love singing.

THE ONE PERSON WHO MOTIVATES ME IS…

My father. The most solid man I have ever known, and is probably busier in retirement that he was in his very successful career. He delivers honesty, stability, intelligence and humor to every person lucky enough to encounter him, and I strive to be like that every day.

THE LAST THING THAT MADE ME LAUGH OUT LOUD WAS…

My own stupidity. I was walking Ocean Beach at night on the rocks in front of the cliffs with a high tide and waves crashing in following a buddy of mine to his favorite place to reflect. Some waves crashed up and I thought they were going to hit me, so I stepped quickly to where I thought was solid ground. It was actually a two foot deep hole filled with sea water. I wrenched my ankle something special, but the first thing I did was laugh at how incredibly dumb I was to do this in the first place! I am also completely sure I would do it again.

THE PERFECT DAY WOULD BE…

Today. Today is always the perfect day because it’s the only one you will ever have.

MY FIRST JOB WAS…

Horticulture Management (Lawn Mowing).

MY LIFE…

Is a constant work in progress. And I take comfort in the fact that I will never be done improving and learning so there will always be something to do tomorrow.

I’M CURRENTLY WORKING ON…

Wow, that is a tough question to answer. A lot? I am trying to grow two businesses, teach my daughter how to drive, play with my dogs, maintain a social life, play softball and basketball, implement a Ketogenic diet, travel to the 76 places on my bucket list, go see as much live music as I can, finish writing music for two projects I

am in, and most of all be the best dad, son, friend and partner I can be.

THE BEST GIFT I’VE EVER RECEIVED WAS...

A newspaper that was printed on the day of my birth near my hometown.

THE ACTOR I WOULD WANT TO PLAY ME IN A MOVIE OF MY LIFE IS...

Jack Black…duh!

MY DREAM VACATION WOULD BE TO…

The next place I am going is Iceland. I went to Peru last year to experience Machu Pichu and it was transcendent. I also went to Monument Valley earlier this year and highly recommend it to anyone living here in AZ. It’s an easy drive and truly spectacular.

MY WORDS OF WISDOM TO ASPIRING BUSINESS OWNERS...

Don’t wait until you think you know enough, because you never will.

COVER STORY

LIVING A LIFE OF ADVENTURE MAKE THE MOST OF EVERYDAY BECAUSE YOU ONLY GO THIS WAY ONCE

Every person deserves to savor the moments that make them feel alive. AZ on the Rocks, Arizona’s largest climbing facility, located in North Scottsdale focuses their energy on offering fun opportunities for friends and families to make memories as they test themselves and enjoy the moments on and off the rock wall. AZR offers several opportunities aside from rock climbing such as team building events, birthday parties, summer camps for the kids, a brand new Ninja Skillz course, and so much more.

AZ on the Rocks is a huge, fully air conditioned rock climbing and fitness facility. Their rock and fitness gym offers approximately 14,000 square feet of climbing terrain, an intimate yoga studio with a full schedule of classes, as well as exercise and fitness equipment. AZR rents all gear necessary and provides basic instruction to all first-time visitors. Their focus is on making sure their climbers feel comfortable and prepared in the gym. Rock climbing not only offers fun and memorable experiences, but it is also a great workout that utilizes every muscle in your body.

Birthdays are exciting milestones in a child’s life, which is why AZR strives to provide every child with a memorable birthday party. They offer a two and a half hour party that includes a party room, a jump off of their free fall device, an AZR t-shirt to remember the excursion, and two energetic hosts to assist the children with climbing and having fun. It’s an event your child will never forget!

Summer is coming up quickly and AZR understands that it can be tough for families, especially when it comes to finding a fun activity for the kids to do while the parents are at work. AZR offers an escape from TV and video games through their fun filled summer camp. Camp offers climbing, yoga, martial arts, energetic games, high spirited counselors, and lunch brought in fresh from Pita Jungle (except pizza on Fridays) for kids ages 6-12 years old. It is guaranteed that these kids won’t be fighting their bedtimes after days packed full of excitement.

Looking for a way to build your team at work? AZR offers fun interactive team building events. Rock climbing is a great way to work on trust, communication, cooperation, goal setting, problem solving, leadership, and it’s an excellent way to build relationships. A business is unable to be successful if the team isn’t working together to fulfill a common goal. AZR uses several different team building exercises to help improve those relationships, potentially improving your business.

The hit show on NBC American Ninja Warrior has become a national phenomenon within the past few years. AZ on the Rocks has just designed a training course in their facility that allows everyone to feel as though they too are participants on the much watched ANW, installed within the past year. Customers are welcome to try out the course on their own or they can sign up for a full training class with two different trainers, and one of them being a previous participant from season seven and eight of American Ninja Warrior.

Climbing is for everyone, you just have to find the adventurous spirit within yourself. If you are interested in learning more about AZR, please visit azontherocks.com. As always, there is no experience necessary and no reservations required. Climbing is for EVERYONE!

5 WAYS TO GET BETTER AT MATH

Picture this: you’re sitting at your Phrases meaning addition: desk, staring at your computer. Sum of, Yields, More than, Combined, You have a pile of math Total of, Together homework to start. But you just can’t; you’re dreading it. Phrases meaning subtraction You launch your courses and see a word than, Fewer than problem. Your least favorite.

Sound familiar? Per, Out of, Ratio

You’re not alone. In fact, 4 out of 10 Americans hate math.

If you’re among the four, we have some tips to help you get better at math and start enjoying your work. Our advice comes from a number of Primavera Online High School administrators, faculty and staff, who are all highly qualified and experienced.

1. IMPLEMENT MATH IN YOUR DAILY ROUTINE

The old saying, “practice makes perfect” rings true for math. There are a few easy ways you can practice math while doing daily tasks. These tips come from faculty from the Primavera Learning Center, a blended learning school in Chandler, Ariz: • When you go to the grocery store, try adding up all the items in your cart and see if the total you got is what shows up at the cash register.

• Then when you get good at that, try dividing it four ways: How much would the bill be if we split it up between mom, dad, brother and sister? • Or try baking a new recipe, and calculate what it would take to double the recipe.

2. PLAY GAMES THAT REQUIRE MATH

Again, it’s all about incorporating math into everything you do. Even the fun things! There are several board games that include math in some form.

Here are a few games you can play with family and friends:

GoFish, with an addition twist, Blitz, 24, Monopoly, Yahtzee,Sodoku

3. LEARN KEY PHRASES TO MAKE WORD PROBLEMS SIMPLER

Word problems can be daunting. But there are several common phrases you’ll find in every word problem. And if you can translate those, you’ll get through word problems in a cinch! Here are a few common phrases: Decrease, Difference between, Less

Phrases meaning division

Phrases meaning multiplication

Of, Times

Phrases meaning equals

Yields, Is (are/were/was), Sold for

Don’t forget to take a deep breath before you start. It might be daunting, but you can break it down. Find the key phrases and write the math symbols out. You will eventually be able to put together a math problem and solve it.

4. MEMORIZE FORMULAS THROUGH SIMPLE REPETITION

Practice using the formulas again and again. After a lot of repetition, it gets easier to remember the formulas and the methods and then solving the problems becomes second nature! The second thing is try to take careful notes and keep them– even after passing that math class. When you get into college and have to take additional math courses, you can always go back and refer to old notes if you forgot

how something is done!

5. REMEMBER, IN ORDER TO GET BETTER AT MATH, YOU NEED THREE THINGS:

Improving in math requires patience, a good attitude and an open mind. Here is an encouraging thought from Primavera math instructor Jessica Lefler.

“Yes, math can be difficult and even frustrating, so when you feel stuck, the mind wants to give up. But don’t give up! Have patience. Albert Einstein said, ‘It’s not that I am so smart. But I stay with the questions much longer.’ If you get upset about a math problem, take a deep breath, don’t rush. Try to look at math as a game or a puzzle rather than as a chore. With that perspective, math becomes doable and even fun!”

If you are struggling in math, the best thing you can do is reach out to your teacher for help.
