KRAFTKOMMUNEN - MED HYDRO SOM HJØRNESTEIN

Midt imellom de to store verneområdene Trollheimen og Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella nasjonalpark, ligger Europas største og reneste aluminiumverk – Hydro Sunndal.

Fjellene som omkranser Sunndalsøra har gitt utgangspunktet for oppbyggingen av industristedet Sunndal. Vannkraftutbyggingen startet rundt 1913, og på 50-tallet ble aluminiumsverket bygd opp på Sunndalsøra. Sunndal er i dag fortsatt en kraftkommune som både forbruker og produserer mer kraft enn de fleste andre kommuner.

Hydro Sunndal er det største aluminiumsverket i Europa og en av de største arbeidsplassene i Sunndal. Hydro har de siste årene investert store summer for å lage mer, og renest mulig, aluminium, og har mål om å produsere aluminium uten utslipp innen 2050.

Between the two large protected areas Trollheimen and Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella National Park, lies Europe’s largest and cleanest aluminum plant - Hydro Sunnda The mountains that surround Sunndalsøra have provided the starting point for the development of the industrial site Sunndal. Hydropower development began around 1913, and in the 1950s, the aluminum plant was built on Sunndalsøra. Sunndal is today still a power municipality that both consumes and produces more power than most other municipalities. Hydro Sunndal is the largest aluminum plant in Europe and one of the largest workplaces in Sunndal. In recent years, Hydro has invested large sums to make more, and as clean as possible, aluminum, and aims to produce aluminum without emissions by 2050.
