The beauty of solid hardwood is on the outside, but under the surface lies a combination of strength, flexibility and durability that cannot be matched by synthetic or engineered substitutes.

The first critical step in producing fine hardwood furniture is selecting the best, most consistent woods. We insist on only the finest color and grain pattern. We then store our lumber in a humidity-controlled environment to minimize expansion and contraction during manufacturing.

THE FINEST WOODS One characteristic of hardwood tables is that each plank used is unique. There are natural variations in color: lighter pieces were closer to the bark, darker pieces closer to the tree’s center. At Trailway, we use both variations of color to give our tables a rich and outstanding beauty.

The best things in life are the ones that last for years, wear well, fit just right. Trailway makes all of its dining furniture from solid USA grown hardwoods, all dining is hand crafted and built with American pride. Good things happen to people who focus on quality.

You will find natural markings on your table, such as knots where tree branches grew.

They do not affect strength, and attest to the fact that your piece is genuine solid hardwood, with all its charming irregularities.

In the hands of a Trailway craftsman, hardwood is carefully chiseled, carved and sanded into a stunning design. No one-size-fits all. Just quality craftsmanship that lasts. Table top shapes are cut by hand. Edges are sanded to ultimate smoothness.

BENCH-MADE MANUFACTURING Each edge of each board is made to fit exactly with another. Boards are matched for grain and color. Holes are precisely drilled to exact standards for table pins before assembling slides, base plates and aprons.

Then table tops undergo further sanding to prepare them for finishing. No time is spared in making sure surfaces are ultra smooth to receive the chosen stain.

Every Trailway table and chair is made to the same high standards of craftsmanship.

WOOD SPECIES Beautiful Trailway tables, chairs and hutches begin with natural raw materials. We use some of the finest hardwoods, harvested through sustainable forestry management principles, to create our heirloom quality furniture.

Some wood species, such as cherry and elm, boast rich, dark tones that imply elegance and sophistication, while others, including hickory and maple, feature naturally lighter shades for more casual table designs.

Character woods highlight the natural markings that give each piece unique beauty, and many species feature distinctive wood grains. The species of wood we use to create our furniture helps determine the overall style and feel of finished pieces.

Our beautiful stains are hand applied to produce a rich, lasting finish. To choose the right color for your Trailway furniture, consider the mood you want to reflect in your home’s décor. Darker shades tend to look more formal or modern, while lighter stains can feel more traditional or casual. And be sure to keep in mind that the stain color you choose will result in a different look depending on the wood species. We also offer a variety of paint options. The combination of stained and painted pieces together on a table or chair is perfect for more casual décors.

SUNLIGHT EXPOSURE While you may like lots of sunlight in your home, sunlight’s ultraviolet rays can damage wood finishes. Please be sure your new furniture is not in a location where the sun will shine directly on it, or use sun screening drapes during intense sunlight hours. Fluorescent light fixtures can also cause changes in the wood or finish of your table.

PLEASE be careful when using laptops or tablets on the table top, as these can get hot and could scratch the finish.

HEAT EXPOSURE WATER RESISTANT FINISH The finish on your table is spillresistant, but it’s a good idea to wipe up any moisture immediately. Standing liquid willcause damage to the wood and finish.

CLEANING RECOMMENDATIONS A soft, damp cloth is all you really need to keep your fine heirloom furniture looking like new. Wiping with a dry cloth can harm the furniture’s finish by scraping small dirt particles into the surface. If you choose to polish your furniture, avoid products with silicone, wax, solvents or abrasives. Your dealer will recommend a suitable polish.

Heat registers and other heat sources can cause damage to your new dining set. Be sure to place it in an area where there is air circulation and heat sources are not directly blowing onto the table and chairs. Do not place hot pans directly onto your tabletop. A table pad will create a barrier between a hot pan and the wood surface. At a minimum, a heavy duty table cloth and trivets should always be used.

FINISH RESISTANCE HUMIDITY CONTROL The humidity in your home can affect wood furniture. If the humidity is too low, it may cause your Trailway furniture to dry out or crack. In contrast, high levels of humidity may result in warping. By keeping the humidity level in your home around 40-45%, you’ll have the ideal environment for preserving the beauty of your new furniture.

Chemical resistance tests are performed to check the coating’s ability to withstand substances typically found in kitchen and bathrooms.
