IN REVIEW 2023

Dear Friends,

LeadershipLEADERSHIP

Sarah & Dick

We feel a tremendous sense of gratitude and joy as we reflect on the past ten years and look with faith-filled hope to the future. In 2023, as we marked our 10th anniversary, we celebrated a decade of progress, purposefulness, and dedication. Each year, we have grown stronger, wiser, and more resolute in pursuing our goals. This milestone has allowed us to pause and appreciate the journey we have been on and the remarkable impact we have made since our inception in 2013.

For the past decade, we have been dedicated to building a thriving community foundation that makes a meaningful impact on people's lives throughout the Greater Philadelphia region. At the heart of our work is a deep commitment to our Catholic faith and its teachings. We are proud to have raised over $200 million for over 100 Catholic ministries, including schools, parishes, and organizations. It is a privilege to be a part of this incredible journey, and we are excited to continue making a positive difference in the world.

It's inspiring to see the number of funds we manage steadily increasing. We take pride in stewarding 139 Catholic funds supported by 16,528 donors who share our mission. We have also worked with over 100 nonprofit consulting clients to help them create results-driven strategies that have grown support for their missions. This success would not be possible without the incredible generosity and commitment of our Board of Trustees, donors, and partners. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to every one of them.

In 2023, our Catholic community came together to make a significant impact. We were able to address the needs and aspirations of those around us, including the establishment of seven new charitable funds. We distributed over $13.5 million to parishes, schools, and other Catholic organizations, making a positive difference in countless lives. Additionally, our consulting services raised over $18 million for their clients, furthering our mission of helping others. We are proud of all that we accomplished together and look forward to continuing to make a difference in the years to come.

We are also grateful to the numerous Catholic ministries that played a significant role in making this year's #iGiveCatholic program successful. The #iGiveCatholic campaign marked its third year in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and proved to be a huge success, raising over $1.5 million to support over 100 organizations.

As leaders, we are blessed to work with a team of extraordinary individuals who are deeply committed to positively impacting the world. The collective efforts of these dedicated professionals have brought about incredible achievements that have surpassed our expectations. Looking ahead, we are hopeful and excited about what the future holds for our foundation and the communities we serve. Together, we will continue to strive towards our shared mission of growing philanthropy according to the teachings of Jesus Christ.

We want to encourage you to take a moment to read through our Annual Report. We are incredibly proud of the work we have accomplished, but we could not have done it without the help and support of the Catholic community. We want to express our sincerest gratitude to everyone involved with CFGP for their support in helping us further our mission. The impact we have made in the Catholic community over the past decade would not have been possible without all of you.

With God’s grace, we will continue to make a profound impact on the Catholic Church of Philadelphia for future generations.

Together in Christ,

Trustees

The Catholic Foundation of Greater Philadelphia

“In setting up a Donor-Advised Fund at CFGP, you really are donating twice. First, in your direct charity through the DAF. Second, in supporting the work of CFGP, which is helping to strengthen the Catholic organizations and parishes through development consulting services.

It is easy to make distributions, and the funds are invested wisely.

We know firsthand that the Investment Committee is made up of members who are experts in the field and committed to the mission of CFGP and holders of DAFs.”

Archbishop’s Ministry Support Fund

The Archbishop’s Ministry Support Fund provides financial assistance to ministries and initiatives identified by Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez as critical to the life of our local Church. This essential fund will award grants to organizations and programs across the Archdiocese of Philadelphia that carry out these super priorities, focusing on spiritual and temporal nourishment now and in the future.

“The Archbishop’s Ministry Support Fund is one example of CFGP’s powerful work. This initiative was created to fund ministries critical to our Church but would not have been possible without new avenues of financial support. It’s already enabled us to establish vibrant outreach to youth and young adults by bringing the Culture Project and Young Catholic Professionals to Philadelphia.”

- Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez Archbishop of Philadelphia and CFGP Board of Trustees

Initiatives

“With deep and prayerful gratitude, I wish The Catholic Foundation of Greater Philadelphia a happy and blessed 10th Anniversary on behalf of the people of the Church in Philadelphia. CFGP has accomplished much good over the past decade thanks to the hard work and dedication of its staff. Although CFGP functions as an independent nonprofit, its physical and spiritual home is right here in Philadelphia, and it makes wonderful things possible.

Congratulations

to CFGP on a decade of impactful service to our local Church and to Monsignor Francis Beach as he receives the Heart of Charity Leadership Award. We are grateful for all you have done and look forward to what you will make possible for God’s people in the future.”

CALENDAR YEAR 2023

CFGP Marks 10th Anniversary!

With great excitement, we announced the beginning of our 10th Anniversary in January. As the year unfolded, we shared stories and highlights of people and events that helped shape CFGP into the organization it is today.

10 Days of Giving

In June, we celebrated our 10th Anniversary with 10 Days of Giving, featuring events designed to spread gratitude throughout our community and say ‘thank you’ for the unwavering support we’ve received over the past decade. We cherished every moment, from heartwarming employee volunteering events to spreading joy with surprise gestures and fun Instagram giveaways.

A look at the ten days:

ƒ We organized a food drive benefiting St. Cyprian Parish Food Bank, making sure families had nourishing meals on their tables.

ƒ Our team volunteered at St. John’s Hospice, sharing warmth, fresh socks, and hot lunches with those experiencing homelessness.

ƒ We donated $500 to the Office for Black Catholics, helping the Philadelphia Catholic Mass Gospel Choir acquire new stoles and choir robes.

ƒ Bringing smiles to the little ones, we surprised the St. Francis de Sales summer camp kids with refreshing water ice treats.

ƒ Gratitude stations were set up at parishes to craft and distribute thank-you cards among the community in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

SPECIAL EVENTS & INITIATIVES
4

We concluded our 10 Days of Giving with a 10th Anniversary Mass and reception celebrated by Archbishop Pérez. Surrounded by our esteemed board members, the CFGP team, and supporters, we also dedicated our conference room to our Board Chair, Dick Clark, and his wife, Angela, in recognition of their decade of service to CFGP. We’re looking forward to the next ten years!

10th Anniversary Celebration

On October 30, 2023, CFGP commemorated our 10th Anniversary at the Union League Liberty Hill with a grand celebration presented by The Kim Family. We were honored to present the inaugural Heart of Charity Leadership Award to Reverend Monsignor Francis W. Beach at the reception. Established in 2023, this award is given to a leader who has made a lasting contribution to our Catholic faith and is dedicated to our mission of growing philanthropy according to the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Since our inception, Monsignor Beach has embodied the mission of CFGP in both word and deed. He was instrumental in founding CFGP, has worked tirelessly to contribute to our growth, and continues to be a leading promoter of our endeavors. His confident guidance, easy leadership, and dedication to our mission have been integral in shaping CFGP into the successful philanthropic organization it is today.

Thank you to our Board of Trustees, event sponsors, and all guests who attended this wonderful celebration. Thank you for believing in our mission and partnering with us as we begin our next chapter.

Initiatives

Women in Philanthropy

We held our annual Women in Philanthropy Forum on November 15, 2023. The goal of the Women in Philanthropy Forum is to bring women together and highlight the critical impact that they have on the nonprofit sector.

This year, we were delighted to have the following philanthropists on our panel:

ƒ Meghan Cokeley, Director, Office for the New Evangelization, Archdiocese of Philadelphia

ƒ Sister Isabella Davila, DC, Behavioral Health Coordinator, Face-to-Face Germantown

ƒ Sarah Hanley, President & CEO, The Catholic Foundation of Greater Philadelphia

ƒ Barb Riley, President, Riley Family Foundation

ƒ Barbara Rose, Fertility Care Practitioner, Gianna Center of Philadelphia

ƒ Dr. Laura Sicola (moderator), Founder, Vocal Impact Productions

The Women in Philanthropy Leadership grant is made possible through generous contributions. This year, recognizing that when we give together, our gift goes further, we announced Women in Philanthropy Giving Circles. We can make the most significant impact in our community when we provide women with direct participation in identifying the organizations, initiatives, and leaders who benefit from this grant.

Our 2023 Women in Philanthropy Leadership Fund grant recipient was the Gianna Center of Philadelphia. Thank you to everyone who attended the Women in Philanthropy Forum. We are continually touched by the remarkable women who work in this sector and give their resources for the well-being of others. It is what Women in Philanthropy is all about.

Introduction to Planned Giving

Introduction to Planned Giving: Preparing Now for Your Catholic Legacy with special guest speaker Colin Devlin, Esq., an estate planning legal expert, was hosted by CFGP on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. This event discussed how easy it is to significantly impact charitable giving without impacting discretionary income. Colin offered tangible and practical suggestions for planned giving that could be immediately implemented. He also explained available planned giving vehicles and how a planned gift can help achieve financial planning goals with significant tax benefits.

CFGP Catholic Workshop Series

On Wednesday, November 9, 2023, CFGP presented the first of four Catholic workshops designed to serve the Catholic community and provide helpful information about end-of-life care and planned giving. It’s the Circle of Life: Conversations Catholics should have now about end-of-life planning featured Dan Solecki, COO of Life Celebrations, Inc., and Terry Lamplugh, Director of Advanced Planning, Givnish Group. Together, they demystified end-of-life planning, shared the advantages of getting your affairs in order, and presented the currentday views of the Catholic Church.

SPECIAL EVENTS & INITIATIVES

Raised more than $1.5M in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia!

On Tuesday, November 29, 2022, CFGP celebrated its third year hosting the #iGiveCatholic Giving Day initiative in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. First introduced by Archbishop Pérez in 2020, #iGiveCatholic encourages people throughout the Archdiocese to donate specifically to Catholic causes on #GivingTuesday.

$1,522,617 was raised to support 102 organizations throughout the greater five-county area. These parishes, schools, and charitable ministries benefit significantly from the support of the 6,685 donors who contributed on this important day and during the Advanced Giving Phase.

We are happy to report that The Archdiocese of Philadelphia ranked fourth nationwide! Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary Appeal and the Catholic Charities Appeal of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia placed first and second for most dollars raised locally and third and fourth place nationally.

Thank you to all our sponsors who made the prize structure possible for the Giving Day, especially our Presenting Sponsors: Porter & Curtis and Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young, LLP. Twenty-five different organizations were able to win an additional prize for falling into various categories, like “First Charitable Ministry to register” and “High School that raised the most money.”

New in 2022, we awarded one of our participating fundholders, Catholic Social Services, a prize for being the “Fund with the most unique donors,” which ranked third in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for raising close to $92,000 through #iGiveCatholic. Thank you to everyone who made this Catholic Day of Giving possible. We couldn’t have done it without you!

“The Catholic Foundation of Greater Philadelphia truly has brought us closer to the Catholic Church. We’ve learned more about the work of the Church through the Catholic Charities Appeal, through our Endowment Fund at CFGP, and now through the relocation of the seminary. We’ve been very impressed with the management of CFGP. You know, it is run by lay people, it’s run by a lot of business people, like a who’s who of people in Philadelphia who bring a great deal of experience in all aspects of the business. As CFGP celebrates its 10th Anniversary this year, the organization has really grown to streamline charitable giving. We know that when we make contributions, our money is going to the intended purpose.”

CONSULTING

Consulting

Growing support for your mission while you focus on fulfilling it. Our mission-first philosophy. Our priests, educators, and social service providers have increasingly demanding jobs. Managing the creation of appeal letters, grant applications, social media, and other fundraising components is unrealistic. While some parishes and organizations have a dedicated development professional, many do not. That’s where we come in.

The need for you, our Catholic leaders, to be present for your audience sparked the creation of CFGP’s consulting services. Our mission-first philosophy was designed to help alleviate fundraising pressure, allowing you to focus on your ministry. Simultaneously, our dedicated development professionals work to create and execute a results-driven strategy that will grow support for your mission.

In FY 2023, our nonprofit consulting services worked with a number of organizations and parishes, including:

ƒ Archbishop's Benefit for Children

ƒ Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul Keys and Sword Event

"There are so many Catholic parishes, schools, and social services that are doing amazing work.

But those people want to focus on their mission, not spend time worrying about budgets and leaky roofs. The Catholic Foundation helps these organizations raise funds to address those administrative concerns so that forming missionary disciples can take the first priority.”

WHO WE ARE

The Catholic Foundation of Greater Philadelphia (CFGP) is an independent, nonprofit community foundation committed to growing philanthropy according to the teachings of Jesus Christ. Grounded in the principles of faith and service, CFGP meets the diverse needs of donors and Catholic institutions through charitable fund management and development consulting.

Our Story

CFGP was founded by a group of dedicated Philadelphia Catholics who wanted to help preserve the integrity and values that make up our faith. What started as an idea transformed into a 501(c)(3) organization that officially opened its doors on July 1, 2013. Since then, CFGP has remained focused on transparency, accountability, and stewardship, working to become the leading resource for Catholic philanthropy.

We work with donors to manage their charitable funds, helping them choose investment opportunities that best meet their needs. CFGP helps parishes and Catholic organizations grow and sustain their vital work through our consulting services. By assisting both groups, CFGP helps magnify the impact of Catholic ministries of the people of the Greater Philadelphia region.

Our Values

n FAITH

Our mission is to grow support for the ministries of the Church in Philadelphia, ensuring an investment in the future of our faith for generations to come.

n IMPACT

We ensure your philanthropy is stewarded to the causes and ministries making the most significant difference in our community.

n SERVICE

We’re working to fulfill our baptismal promise through service to others and Christ.

n TRANSPARENCY

Our team strives to provide all donors and clients with the tools they need to feel comfortable with their fundraising and giving.

What Differentiates Us

Our key differentiator—we are who we serve. Our team is comprised of financial, fundraising, and marketing professionals who understand your goals better than anyone. Why? Because we’re just like you. We’re local, and we’re Catholic, so we know the pride you have for your hometown roots and the rich Catholic history that inhabits Philadelphia. We also know the ministries that reside here, so we ensure all gifts are stewarded to the causes you care most about. When you work with CFGP, you can rest assured that you are working with people who share your values.

17

Our 10th Anniversary has given us an opportunity to reflect on whether we are fulfilling our mission. We are pleased to report that, yes, every day, we positively impact our communities and ministries.

Raised over $200 million for over 100 Catholic ministries.

We also recognize that there is still more that needs to be done.

Looking ahead to the next ten years, we stand ready and are energized about the possibilities. Thank you for believing in our mission and partnering with us as we begin our next chapter.
