EFR BOARD
Foreword Rector Magnificus Henk Schmidt We find that an association like the EFR is of great value to both the university and its students. The EFR provides students with various kinds of activities and facilitates them with social, academic and professional development. Besides looking after students’ interests, the EFR can also be relied on when it concerns professional and eye-opening events. The Erasmus School of Economics and the Erasmus University as a whole owe a significant part of their good reputation to the EFR. Thanks to the EFR, world leaders like Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Benjamin Netanyahu, and Jakob Kellenberger have visited our university in the past. Furthermore, the EFR’s nationally broadcasted political debate makes our university the centre of attention.
The EFR and its activities are actually quite unique. Where do you find a non-profit organisation, run by over 130 students, organising events like the ones above? Only the ambitious and down-to-earth attitude of Rotterdam and its students, and their great drive makes it possible to facilitate activities like these at our university. It is of utmost importance that our student organisations have good management! That is why I suggest that you apply for a position on the management board. A board year is the ultimate way to develop and challenge yourself during your studies.
FOREWORD 49TH PRESIDENT NIENKE BENDERS Are you looking for a challenging and practical experience closely related to your studies? If so, then you might consider applying for the management board of one of Europe’s largest and most ambitious student organisations, the EFR. With 7 fellow students you spend a full year on managing the EFR’s wide range of events for the students of the Erasmus University. Each day the EFR-Board encounters many aspects of running an organisation, under which project planning, presentation skills and approaching different stakeholders. Though you have a specific function within your team, you will be working closely with your fellow board members. Working that closely in a team is a valuable experience and mastering it is certainly a very important skill for your future career.
Besides work there is plenty of room for fun! You will fulfil an important role in Rotterdam’s student life, go to drinks and parties, participate in trips, meet new people and enjoy many unforgettable moments with your fellow board members and Active Members. Being an EFR-Board member for a year is a great opportunity to develop yourself; you get various professional trainings and coaching through your board year. Furthermore, it signals your future employer that you put extra effort in your development, which is definitely an advantage when applying for a job. In short: a year full of great activities, working in a close team with over 130 enthusiastic Active Members and meeting so many new people. A year at the EFR is truly unforgettable!
