Whilst we may be heading into the final two weeks of the academic year, we are by no means losing steam If anything, more coal has been added to the boiler and it has been freshly stoked.
What a week of exciting opportunities have been afforded the girls in the Prep School this week.
Commencing with a whole school assembly about ‘Values Week’ - another inaugural Prep School opportunity to be more involved in the events going on throughout Senior School. Girls have enjoyed singing along during Breakioke and were very much looking forward to today’s mufti- and charity stall events
On Tuesday, we hosted the anuual Aquathlon and many of the girls from Year 5 took part and did themselves and the school proud
Also on Tuesday, Year 6 rounded off their RE learning about the life and ministry of Jesus with a visit to Wintershall to watch ‘The Life of Christ’. Further details on this trip below - needless to say it was an amazing and moving experience and we were doubly blessed with spectacular weather too
On Wednesday, Miss Fogwill and her team in the PE Department put on the inaugural Interhouse Life-Saving Competition What an excellent event this proved to be Watching the girls demonstrate, under competitive timings, all the skills they have learned about water safety, rescue and life-saving was so encouraging to be part of. What with fifteen water-based fatalities across the country during the last heatwave this education is truly a life skill Thank you to all those parents who came along to support the girls
Next week, we are so excited to be putting the finishiing touches to the Prep School production of ‘The Wizard of Oz’. If you are still to book your seats, please find the relevant link below. We can’t wait for you to experience the journey to Oz!
While I am on the point of booking in - please also find below the links to Sports’ Day (Tuesday 30 June); Year 6 Leavers’ Liturgy (Wednesday 1 July) and our end of year Prize-Giving (Thursday 2 July) th st nd
Best wishes, Gareth Tindall
Pastoral Pause
Perhaps it is just me, so I beg forgiveness for this self-indulgence, but with longer days I do not feel I manage to make more hay while the sun is shining
I seem to find more things that need doing in the moment that I have while I can utilise the sunshine
So that life remains constantly full of things to do An ever-increasing list of demands on my time
If you sympathise at all, then maybe this is for you as well:
"You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step." Martin Luther King, Jr.
"You may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing that we call 'failure' is not the falling down, but the staying down " Mary Pickford
Have a great weekend, Gareth

School Post Retraction regarding Wizard of Oz
Dear Parents,
Please accept our apology but it has come to light that an error in letter editing sent erroneous information regarding next week’s productions and After School Care
While we do encourage as many parents as can to collect their daughter’s and take them home for a couple of hours ahead of the production to eat and rest etc, we are aware for our more outlying families this is simply not possible.
Rest assured - After School Care will be running next Thursday and Friday. If your daughter attends After School Care on either (or both) of these days for the duration up to the show. Please ensure she has the correct requirements for costume with her at school. Please ensure she brings a packed tea as well. At about 5pm After School Care will return to the Prep School classrooms to eat their packed tea. If you are collecting at that time, please pop into main reception who will radio through.
Thank you for your understanding.

The Life of Christ
On Tuesday 16 June, Year 6, ably supported by Mrs Ridulfa, Mrs Kearley, Mrs Haselden and Mr Tindall, visited the Wintershall Estate near Bramley to experience the annual play: The Life of Christ
The play is an incredible depiction of powerful scenes from the gospel narratives of the realities of the life of Jesus of Nazereth. From Act 1 and the foretelling of his birth, to the crying baby Jesus being passed to sageful saints in the temple courts while the audience try to hear the prophecy of Simeon over the bleeting of the sheep which are still on set from the shepherds’ arrival! The beautiful interaction of cast and animals, sets including boats on the large pond and rambling grassy Surrey hillside It was an idyllic way to watch the sermon on the mount and witness the feeding of the 5000, not to mention the wedding at Cana and the plotting of the pharisees
Following lunch, we headed into Act Three and some of our girls waved palm branches for Christ’s Entrance into Jerusalem, then our chaplaincy prefects and Mrs Kearley took the stage as part of the angry mob hired to shout “Crucify Him!” The Crucifixion is a powerful and reverently silent scene Swiftly followed by the joy of the resurrection and the commissioning of the disciples to take the good news into all the world - which is what the good folk of Wintershall are still doing.

Anchored in Hope The Good Shepherd Celebration Worth Abbey June 18 2026
Whilst we cannot be at The Good Shepherd Celebration in person this year, the girls in Prayer club have been busy decorating an anchor to represent our school at the Celebration. The anchor symbol has been chosen to celebrate the Jubilee of Hope.
“For those travelling by sea, the anchor is what they cling to when hope is needed But an anchor, and hope, is not only required during the storms; times we may need to "drop anchor" and rekindle our hope may also be when we are needing rest or to stop ourselves from drifting. As we look forward to the legacy that the Year of Hope may bring about, we pray that we will continue to rely upon the anchor of our faith. We pray too that in our own storms, fatigue and deviations, we will cling to Christ, our hope and anchor, to strengthen us and fill us with His love everlasting ”
Theresa McNamara, Chaplaincy Coordinator for Diocesan schools
The anchor will be on display in the Prep School after the celebration. We have decorated it with little flowers, inspired by our patron saint: Thérèse of Lisieux, who was known as "The Little Flower", along with a verse from Hebrews 6v19: "We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain."
There is also a quote from St Thérèse: “For me, prayer is a surge of the heart; it is a simple look turned toward heaven, a cry of recognition and of love, embracing both trial and joy.”
Pope Francis also told us that hope "is an anchor that one hurls towards the future, it is what lets you pull on the line, reach what you ' re aiming for and head in the right direc tion Hope is also theological: God is there, too "
This Week
A reading from the Gospel of Matthew
The harvest is rich but the labourers are few
When Jesus saw the crowds he felt sorry for them because they were harassed and dejected, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is rich but the labourers are few, so ask the Lord of the harvest to send labourers to his harvest ’
He summoned his twelve disciples, and gave them authority over unclean spirits with power to cast them out and to cure all kinds of diseases and sickness
Reflection
At the heart of this passage is the compassion of Christ He does not first organise or instruct He sees.
He sees people “harassed and dejected, like sheep without a shepherd.” This image speaks of spiritual lostness and vulnerability: people lacking guidance, protection, and hope Let us this week aim to have eyes that are open to the needs of others and recognise more fully the gift and needs of the other.
Let us pray.
Lord Jesus,
You looked upon the crowds and your heart was moved with compassion. You saw the lost, the weary, and the searching, and you called others to share in your mission.
Lord of the harvest,
Help us to have generous hearts able to serve and love the other.
Amen.
