Issue 6

Dear Parents,

Summer Term

5th June 2026

We were all geared up for our exciting fixtures at the start of the week, following on from a glorious week of weather during the half term break, when the heavens opened and cricket and tennis required cancelling amid the deluge of rain and the lightning and thunder!

The fixtures were not the only elements of the week missed due to inclement weather, however we are a creative school and we managed to make new things during indoor break and engage in classroom based PE learning too. Fingers crossed for today’s IAPS cricket tournament!

Next week, we are looking forward to conquering assessments in the form of: internal progress testing, ABRSM examinations and LAMDA examinations Good luck to all the girls involved in their external Music and Drama grading

The week after next we are looking forward to celebrating our Whole School Values Week and the culmination of a year focused on the value of Compassion. Prep School council have been working alongside their Senior counterparts on an exciting programme of activities, culminating in a Street Party on Friday afternoon with many stalls for girls to purchase goods with all proceeds going to charity

On the subject of charity, the LifeLab profit of £849 this year (wow – well done, Year 6!) has been donated to Cancer Research UK – a charity close to all our hearts. We have donated in support of Mr Allen in our IT Department who took up running just last year and will be completing his first 10km run for charity on June 21st We wish him all the best! If you would like to support Mr Allen follow the link here: https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/grahams-race-for-life-801

“God's dream is that you and I and all of us will realize that we are family, that we are made for togetherness, for goodness, and for compassion” - Desmond Tutu

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humour, and some style” - Maya Angelou

Best wishes,

Gareth Tindall

Whatever it is remember this message from Jesus:

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16

God Bless, Gareth

GOLDEN BOOK

Well done to all of the girls in our Golden Books this week:

5AB

Ivy H for her wonderful description of a Secret Garden and her effective use of figurative language.

Ava B and Isabelle C for their great paired work in creating an effective symbol, using plasticine, to represent the Gift of Wisdom from the Holy Spirit.

5HT

Leila A for her excellent work adding and subtracting decimals this week.

Olivia H for her use of figurative language during our poetry writing work this week

6MK

Daisy B, Abby VR and Cecily P for their imaginative use of similes in poetry writing and their skilful use of rhythm, rhyme, and humour in their limericks

6RG

Eden May O for her fantastic poem in the style of that written by Malorie Blackman Super use of similes and description to create her own engaging poem.

Sienna DN for her superb effort with her poetry writing creating a story within her poem and using a series of similes to develop tension.

Rosie M for her fantastic effort creating a limerick, working hard to follow the rhythm and rhyme pattern

DRAMA STARS

Ellie F for her excellent performance within her group rehearsal for their Peter Pan scenes, especially having memorised many of her lines in such a short space of time.

Annabella H for her engaging rehearsal performance and witty in-character improvisations.

SCIENCE STARS

Charlotte E and Kimberley C for their contributions and research into mammals and their babies.

Abby VR and Sophia D for their fantastic written explanations of how we breathe.

Year 6 non-chronological reports

Year 6 have been working hard on using cohesive devices to link ideas within a paragraph They have applied this along with other techniques, such as use of technical language and exciting sentence openers, when creating their own creature to live in the world of Pandora. The girls showed imagination, creativity and focus to develop their own non-chronological reports, which were finished last week. Well done, everyone! Images below, as promised.

Abby and Ellie Assembly

Abby and Ellie led our themed Tuesday Assembly this week, they had volunteered to run the assembly on their joint passion for gymnastics. The Prep girls, Mrs. Kearley and Mr. Tindall were instructed in the four disciplines involved in gymnastics, namely: Floor, Beam, Bars and Vault

The girls demonstrated using video footage of themselves completing activities which help build to some of these routines and by also showing clips of famous gymnasts Simone Biles and Katelyn Ohashi

They took questions from the floor (excuse the pun) and answered in detail

A very inspirational assembly Well done, Abby and Ellie!

Follow Shrek, a lovable (if slightly grumpy) green ogre whose quiet swamp is suddenly filled with fairy tale misfits To win back his home, he joins forces with a bold Princess Fiona and a quick witted Donkey

Production Rehearsals

This week, both year groups have focussed on the songs in Act I of The Wizard of Oz. The harmonies are coming together nicely and the girls have been making sure the words are both well-known and well-articulated.

Year 6 have also been considering staging and choreography for their individuals groups and thinking about how to interact with one another and with whilst on stage.

Orchestra

This week we welcomed yet more new musicians to the orchestra rehearsal. Leila A joined on alto saxophone, and Chioma N returned on double bass significantly broadening th range of our little ensemble. Maggie M did a smashing job as conductor which freed up Mrs G to play the piano part

Chamber Choir

As Chamber Choir prepare for their performance at the Prize Giving Ceremony they’ve been warming up with some new vocal exercises. Our favourite tongue twister for this week is “seventy-seven benevolent elephants”.

Musician of the Week

Year 5

Isabelle E-N - some lovely work in our ukulele class, with good focus and determination.

Year 6

Maggie M - well done for leading the orchestra rehearsal, clear conducting with a steady beat and making sure everyone knew what to play.

Life in Oz has become increasingly difficult under the watchful eye of the Wicked Witch. Rumours of flying monkeys, unexpected cackling, and an alarming shortage of green clothing have left the Ozians in a state of great concern!

To help our brave citizens prepare for the forthcoming production of The Wizard of Oz, we are appealing for any unwanted green clothing or accessories suitable for children aged 10–11:

Green tops/ t-shirts

Green skirts/ shorts/ trousers/ leggings

Green tights/ hats/ scarves

Green jewellery/ accessories

Anything else Green and wonderfully Ozian!

The more eccentric, unusual or sparkly, the better.

The Emerald City is not known for its restraint!

Please do not buy anything new! We are hoping to make use of items that are already lurking in wardrobes, dressing-up boxes and forgotten corners of cupboards. As costumes may be altered or repurposed, we cannot guarantee that donated items will be returned.

If you have any suitable items, please send them into school by Monday 15 June. The Ozians thank you for your kindness and generosity.

With thanks,

Hickstead Championships

23rd - 25th May

The Hickstead Championships bring together the very best competitors from schools from all over the UK. Despite the sweltering heat, the girls all rode beautifully and rose to the diverse challenges.

Inter County Show Jumping Championships

Antigonie S rode a skilful, clear and fast round to win the top spot and has been crowned the 1.10 M Inter County Champion. This really is the very top of individual NSEA showjumping achievements.

Riding at the highest team level, the 1M team (Rosie C, Harri L, Antonia S, Antigonie S), rode tactically round a very well built but testing course to become Reserve Intercounty Champions

Hickstead Elite 1M Show Jumping Championships

Rosie C, Harri L, Antonia S and Antigonie S narrowly missed first place by 0 28 seconds but secured their place as Reserve Champions A stunning achievement

The above two team results are at the very top level of team NSEA Show Jumping and absolutely amazing achievements.

Inter County Dressage Championships

The dressage team (Lottie B, Molly M, Rosie C and Olivia S) rode really well It was Molly’s and Lottie’s first dressage championships and first time competing at a higher level for Rosie and Olivia They just missed out on the placings this time but there is lots of potential for the future!

Eventers Challenge Championships

Although the teams did not come in the placings, Molly M went clear in the 70cm class at her very first school championships as did Harri L in the 80cm class and Ivy M in both the 70 and 80 cm classes. Amber B's pony flew round but had a couple of poles down. Olivia S rode extremely determinedly in both her classes. Rosie C also did a very good job! Really well done to all of them!

Show Jumping Qualifiers

Alongside the Championship classes, the NSEA run qualifiers for the National Championships in October

Florence B made her debut riding her new pony Tommy in lovely clear rounds at 70 and 80 cm. Antonia S and Antigonie S jumped in the 1.10 class for a very daring and fast win from Antonia and second place for Antigonie respectively, qualifying them both not only for the National Championships but also the Hickstead Elite 1.10 Individual Finals at Hickstead in June.

What a weekend! I can't express enough how proud I am of the girls who not only pulled off these exceptional results, but who unfalteringly supported each other not only through the celebrations but also the challenges they faced over the weekend Lucy Collins (NSEA Team Manager)

This Week

A reading from the Gospel of John

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.

“Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Those who believe in him are not condemned; but those who do not believe are condemned already, because they have not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

Reflection

This passage from John’s Gospel reminds us of the very heart of the Christian faith: God’s love is unconditional, sacrificial, and life-giving. God does not love us because we are perfect, but simply because we are His. In sending His Son, God does not come to judge or condemn, but to save, heal, and restore.

The church has recently celebrated the Feast of the Holy Trinity The Trinity reminds us that God’s nature is a nature of sharing, of giving and receiving. We are all invited to share in God’s love and life. Now what can be better than that.

Let us pray.

Loving Father,

we thank you for the gift of your Son, Jesus Christ, the light of the world and the source of our salvation.

Help us to believe in Him with all our hearts, to trust in your love, and to walk always in your light.

Amen.
