BOARDING

The boarders and boarding team are looking forward to showcasing their home at the upcoming Open Morning and welcoming prospec tive families into our vibrant boarding community. Last weekend, the boarders enjoyed a trip to Kingston, making the most of ever ything the town has to offer. From browsing the shops to sampling a variety of delicious food, the girls had a fantastic day out and thoroughly enjoyed spending time together. Back at school, the new games room continues to be a huge success. The Nintendo Switch, kindly funded through a donation from FOST, has quickly become a favourite, with Mario Kar t and Just Dance proving par ticularly popular. The games regularly bring the boarders together, encouraging girls from different year groups to mix, have fun and get to know one another better. Even the boarding team can't resist joining in, with some ver y competitive spirits emerging during the games! The clear evening skies provided the perfec t oppor tunity for some stargazing. Being situated on the hill, we are for tunate to have such wonderful views, making it a memorable end to a lovely weekend. We look forward to sharing more of boarding life with visitors at Open Morning!

Prep School News Dear Parents, Your daughter’s have been hard at work during the second full week back in lessons and baseline assessments which help us monitor their learning from last academic year and target set for the year ahead. On Tuesday morning, it was great to see this year’s Year 6 carry on the trend of pupil-led assemblies which started last year. First to approach me this year were Maddie, Ava and Ivy wishing to lead an assembly all about their love of dogs! I was particularly impressed that they even had T-Shirts showing their true dedication to their canine friends. We learnt all about German Shepherds, Beagles and Spaniels; the large amount of equipment, care and love which goes into looking after their pets. Well done girls, a lovely, memorable assembly. And this, like last year has started the snowball effect for this year - we are now looking forward to further assemblies from all those who stepped up to me since Tuesday requesting to run an assembly on...horses, cricket, unusual creatures and niche sports. Watch this space! On the theme of assemblies, and in our Values Year of Character, we have had two weeks in a row now of opportunity to spontaneously celebrate moments of ‘character’ with acts of kindness performed in our school. This week, Lily spoke up in assembly during our any other awards this week section and wanted to share and celebrate the kindness and support she had received at swim squad last night from Head Girl, Florence, waiting for her in lane and swimming with her to encourage her in doing her best. Well done Lily for speaking up and well done Florence for demonstrating our school value so excellently. We are looking forward to the start of Games fixtures next week with our first Hockey matches of the season against City of London Freeman’s School. We are also excited to take part in Languages Week both in our lessons and with break time activities across the wider school. I will leave you this week (as I did last week) with the thought that gratitude goes along way to show kindness and love to others, but also (and possibly more importantly) is a balm for your own soul.

Maya Angelou Best wishes, Gareth Tindall

Prep Music News

Music Groups Chamber Choir have been rehearsing our Harvest songs, blending harmonies and singing in contrasting parts. Ukulele Club have revisited some of the chords we learned last year whilst strumming away to our favourite tunes. String Quartet rehearsed for the first time this week. There was lots of enthusiasm for our new chamber music group. Year 6 Music The girls have started this academic year full of musical energy. With a focus on rhythm, we have experimented with body percussion and rhythm cups. The girls have learned repeating patterns and created their own rhythmic grooves in small groups. We will be interweaving this rhythm work with our Harvest celebration songs - look out: parent participation will be encouraged!

Keyboard Classes With many of the girls new to keyboard we have been learning C, D and E, playing by rote and from traditional notation working in small groups and independently. We have also started to explore traditional rhythmic notation.

A reading from the Gospel of Matthew: When Peter asks Jesus how many times he should forgive, he probably expects a number. Instead, Jesus offers a way of life: "not seven times, but seventy-seven times" (Matthew 18:22). When Jesus tells Peter to forgive "seventy-seven times", he invites us into God's way of loving. Forgiveness is not about excusing wrongdoing or forgetting our hurts. Rather, it is choosing not to let resentment have the final word. Pope Leo XIV reminds us that forgiveness is essential for peace because anger and revenge destroy relationships, divide families and even fuel conflict in the wider world. Every act of forgiveness becomes a small act of peacemaking. This teaching connects deeply with Catholic Social Teaching. Forgiveness honours the dignity of the human person, recognising that every individual is more than their mistakes. And St John Paul II famously said: "There is no peace without justice, no justice without forgiveness." When we forgive, we imitate Christ on the Cross. We choose hope over bitterness, reconciliation over division, and love over resentment. Forgiveness may not change the past, but it can transform the future. Prayer Lord Jesus, you forgave those who crucified you and call us to do the same. Help us to forgive as we have been forgiven. Free our hearts from anger and bitterness, and teach us to see the dignity of every person. Amen.

Jumping with Style Jumping with Style (JWS) combines the skill required to jump both typical show jumping fences as well as arena cross country fences in the same round with marks given for style counting towards the final score too. Ivy M rode a fantastic round in the 80cm JWS to come 4th, giving her a qualification for the National Championships in October. The 90 cm JWS team, comprising, Amber B, Rosie C and Ivy M all rode brilliantly to secure a team win as well as an individual win for Amber and 4th and 5th place for Rosie and Ivy respectively. That means the team are through to the National Championships and Amber and Rosie have individual qualifications too. Rosie C took the win in the 1M JWS securing herself an individual qualification for the National Championships too!

Showjumping Amber B took the win in the 1M showjumping class, securing herself an individual qualification for the National Championships.

An awesome set of results and qualifications! We have just one more showjumping qualifier before the Nationals in October to squeeze out a last few qualifications but already with the qualifications the girls have worked so hard to gain since last year, St Teresa's will be going to the Nationals with teams across Combined Training, Dressage, Jumping with Style and Showjumping which is in itself amazing and to top it off, we have again this year amassed sufficient points across these qualifications to be eligible to put a team forward for the RPL Mixed Height Finals. A huge thank you to the Horses, Parents and Lucy C who makes the St Teresa’s NSEA team possible!
