Message from the Head of Prep

Despite the persistent wet and windy weather, spirits in Prep have remained high, with the children enjoying yet another exciting and engaging week.

Our virtual reality headsets proved a real hit with Reception and Year 2, who explored a variety of locations and discovered the wildlife found there. The immersive technology transported them to new environments and sparked their curiosity and imagination.

Year 1 also focused on animals this week, creating a delightful farmyard scene through their own artistic interpretations.

Lower Prep School Council met and shared some fantastic ideas, including a number of suggestions for our catering team. We look forward to seeing which of these ideas can be brought to life.

Reception thoroughly enjoyed their Mini Chef experience, showing off some impressive culinary skills our catering team may soon have some serious competition!

Our sports programme has continued at pace, with skiers progressing in their training, rugby teams playing a series of fixtures, and swimmers celebrating some excellent successes in the pool.

Good luck to those involved in the Shrewsbury House tournament tomorrow.

Year 5 Science

Year 5 pupils have been exploring chemical changes this term, and science lessons have been fizzing with excitement sometimes quite literally! Pupils discovered how some reactions create brand-new substances and cannot be reversed, as demonstrated spectacularly with the ever-popular Elephant’s Toothpaste. Rapid gas production caused foam to erupt across the bench, much to everyone’s delight. We also investigated methane bubbles, safely observing how this flammable gas behaves.

Pupils were able to link chemical reactions to real world applications such as fuels and energy. These lessons sparked excellent scientific discussion, careful observation, and plenty of awe.

Bebras Challenge 2025

Congratulations to all the Upper Prep pupils who achieved their Gold certificates in the Bebras Challenge 2025. A special mention must go to Luke B and Jason S who also achieved Best in School certificates.

Mr Afana

Congratulations to these pupils in Year 6, who received Science Star awards last week. The Year 6 science subject specialist teachers were delighted to nominate pupils for their endeavours in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, along with pupils who show dedication to science as mentors for younger pupils in Science Club. Thank you to Mr Rahman, Mr Kelly and Mrs Davies for their inspiring lessons and to our wonderful technicians Mrs Tolley and Miss Jhutti who make practical science at Cranmore such fun.

Reception Mini Chef Experience

Cranmore and Manor House Reception had a fantastic morning at Pizza Express in Cobham this week. The children were shown around the restaurant and learned about the history of Pizza Express and its yummy ingredients, before making their own delicious Margherita pizzas.

The children were excellent ambassadors for the school and were complimented on their hard work. Great work, Reception!

Year 1 News

Year 1 have had a wonderfully creative week as they worked together to produce a vibrant display for our Food and Farming topic. The children explored line drawing in art and used their new skills to create some fantastic farm animals full of character. They also experimented with mixed media to design their own colourful tractors, showing great imagination and enthusiasm. The final display is a true celebration of their hard work.

Year 2 News

This week in Year 2, the children have been learning about safari animals. They explored the different habitats these animals live in and used VR headsets to get up close to a cheetah, elephants and lions. It was a fantastic way to bring their learning to life!

Our Chaplain visited Year 2 pupils on Wednesday. It was a wonderful session filled with thoughtful questions, lively discussion and prayer. The pupils learned that Mr Jakubowski feels that God has called him to his role. We also learned that we are all called to be chaplains!

A busy week of rugby has taken place across the Prep School, with numerous fixtures played on the Henderson Fields. Despite the challenging weather, the pitches once again proved to be an excellent setting for hosting visiting schools. A particular highlight came on Tuesday, when our U11s took part in a triangular tournament. Cranmore performed superbly, securing four wins from the six matches played.

On Wednesday, we welcomed Raleigh School for a lively and enjoyable swimming gala. More than forty swimmers from Years 4 to 6 took part, contributing to an afternoon filled with competitive spirit, impressive performances and plenty of fun.

More than 40 skiers continue to show outstanding dedication through their weekly Monday evening training sessions at Sandown. Our performance ski squad has also maintained its high standards with an intense double session every Friday, making full use of both the ski simulator and the Athletic Development Centre to advance their technical and physical preparation.

We wish the very best of luck to our U9 and U10 rugby teams as they travel to the Shrewsbury House tournaments tomorrow.

A Message from our Chaplaincy Team

This Week

A reading from the Gospel of Matthew

Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him.

The Beatitudes

And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

Reflection

As we turn on the news, we are often confronted with a world that is not at peace with itself a world that is broken and full of disorder. Yet Jesus reminds us that God enters our world to restore it to the good, to bring it back to God. Our human hearts are made for peace and remain restless until they rest in Him. Let us seek, this week, to build relationships and to bring peace to the places we inhabit.

Prayer

Lord Jesus Christ, You are the true King of peace. In You alone is found freedom.

Please free our world from conflict. Bring unity to troubled nations.

Amen.
