Senior Chronicle YOUR ESSENTIAL ROUND-UP FOR THE WEEK COMMENCING 21 SEPTEMBER 2026 Message from the Headmaster As we move fur ther into the autumn term, pupils are settling into the rhythm of busy days filled with classroom learning, spor ting commitments and a wide range of enriching oppor tunities beyond the timetable. Last Friday's London Gospel Choir concer t was a wonderful way to end the week. Their energy, warmth and exceptional musicianship brought our Effingham Schools Trust community together and created a genuinely uplifting atmosphere. It was a fitting reminder of how the ar ts enrich school life. Congratulations to our U13 footballers who are regional IAPS champions and to our ski teams who have qualified for the national finals. The continuing fine weather has also been welcome during golf, cross country and rugby fixtures as well as the Year 7 residential to Calshot Ac tivity Centre. During their trip, the pupils enjoyed ac tivities including kayaking, climbing and a variety of team-building ac tivities. The theme of collaboration and teamwork continued across the school, with pupils in Years 8 to 11 taking par t in escape room-style team-building ac tivities. Year 10 pupils also benefited from a study skills workshop, learning prac tical techniques to develop positive study habits as they embark on their GCSE courses. It has been a pleasure to see pupils embracing these oppor tunities with confidence, and we look forward to suppor ting those preparing for our half-term overseas tours to Sicily and Por tugal at next week's online information evenings. Cranmore Live Seventy children from Cranmore, St Teresa's, Manor House and Halstead St Andrew's attended a fun, gospel music workshop, led by four members of the fabulous London Community Gospel Choir (LCGC). The pupils worked on several pieces and then performed them alongside the gospel choir at the start of the Cranmore Live concert. Once finished, the pupils and audience of around 200 people enjoyed the incredible vocals of LCGC. To say that there was plenty of audience participation during this concert would be an understatement, as the audience moved and clapped along to the ever-socatchy gospel melodies. There was a real buzz in the room and it was so wonderful to see so many smiles on faces. It was a truly inspirational night of high-quality live music. Mr Harris, Director of Music

House Pride Takes Centre Stage!
Creativity, craftsmanship and house spirit came together in the Design and Technology department for an exciting new house competition to create a unique centrepiece to unveil the House Trophy. Each of the six houses were challenged to design a panel celebrating their individual identity and character. After each house selected their winning concept, teams of pupils visited the Design and Technology workshop to turn their ideas into reality. Working alongside Mr. McGhee and Mr. Overton, the teams used their creativity and practical skills to manufacture and finish their designs. The six completed panels now form part of a rotating display, mounted on a lazy Susan bearing so that each House design can take its turn in the spotlight. The stand below takes inspiration from the Cranmore crest and sits proudly on top of a specially made clear acrylic collection box. But this is much more than a display piece. The clear acrylic box is divided into six sections, one for each house, ready to record the competition as it unfolds throughout the year. Each week, the House Captains of the winning house will deposit a coloured token into their section. Week by week, victory by victory, the tokens will build up, creating a visual record of the competition across the academic year. The project has been a true celebration of creativity, collaboration, community and house spirit, and the pupils should be incredibly proud of what they have created. Now there is only one question left to answer...

Interactive History Workshop for Year 10 Year 10 students recently had the opportunity to take part in a fascinating and interactive workshop led by an actor posing as a First World War veteran. The session focused on the harsh conditions soldiers endured in the trenches, including the challenges of mud, disease, poor sanitation and constant danger. The students also explored how medical treatment developed during the war, learning about the injuries faced by soldiers and the advances in surgery, infection control and battlefield medicine that emerged as a result of the conflict. A particular highlight was the question and answer session, where students were able to ask thoughtful questions and deepen their understanding of the experiences of those who lived through the war.

The workshop brought classroom learning to life and provided valuable context for our GCSE students studying medicine and warfare in the twentieth century.
European Day of Languages Activities This week, the entire school has been enthusiastically celebrating the European Day of Languages, embracing the rich diversity of languages and cultures across Europe. Pupils have enjoyed a wide range of activities designed to promote language learning and cultural awareness, including special assemblies, a themed lunch menu, book displays, and interactive games in the Library during break times. The celebrations culminated in a fun and engaging competition on Friday, challenging pupils to identify staff members wearing badges displaying the word 'hello' in different European languages and record them on a form.The week has been a wonderful opportunity to highlight the importance of languages, encourage curiosity about other cultures, and celebrate the international nature of our school community. On Thursday, the whole school enjoyed a culinar y journey across Europe, sampling a delicious array of dishes from a variety of countries. From traditional Spanish paella to freshly made Dutch waffles, there was something to delight ever y palate. It was wonderful to see the excitement and enjoyment on our pupils’ faces as they explored new flavours and celebrated the rich diversity of European cuisine.
Sports News
It has been another excellent week of sport at Cranmore, with pupils competing across seven different disciplines: football, rugby, golf, rackets, cross-country, skiing and swimming. The standout achievements came from our U13s, who were crowned Regional IAPS Champions, and our skiers, with three of our five teams qualifying for the National Finals. These successes are a testament to the hard work, commitment and talent of our pupils. Good luck to our two Senior swimming teams taking part at the Regional ESSAs tomorrow at the Guildford Spectrum. Message from the Chaplain
A Reading from the Gospel of Matthew "The kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard. He agreed to pay them a day's wage and sent them to work. Later in the day, he hired more workers, and even at the eleventh hour he found others and sent them too." In this parable, Jesus challenges our human tendency to compare ourselves with others and gives us an insight into the generous nature of God. The Kingdom of God seems so very different from our earthly values and systems. It is founded on God's boundless generosity and mercy. Let us seek to see more fully the beauty of God. This Gospel also speaks powerfully to Catholic Social Teaching, particularly the principle of human dignity. Every worker is valued equally, regardless of when they arrived. Each person has inherent worth because they are made in the image and likeness of God.

Cranmore Sports Club Would you like to keep fit, use the Cranmore sports facilities and have an enjoyable evening? The Sports Club meets in the Sports Hall on Friday evenings during term time from 7 to 9.15pm for squash, badminton and pickleball.
Cramore parents, members of staff, local players and their friends are all welcome. We are a friendly club of mixed standard. Fees are currently only £100 per annum or £5 per night.
