Senior Chronicle YOUR ESSENTIAL ROUND-UP FOR THE WEEK COMMENCING 2 MARCH 2026 Message from the Headmaster It has been an enriching week across the school, with pupils embracing a wide variety of opportunities. Year 10 and 11 pupils learnt about using AI effectively to support revision. They received advice about using a framework to help create clear and purposeful prompts when using Microsoft Copilot which they have access to through school. Pupils in Year 10 will complete their Duke of Edinburgh Silver training day this weekend, building on the teamwork, resilience and independence developed during their Bronze Award as they prepare for their qualifying expedition next term. I am especially grateful to our dedicated Duke of Edinburgh leaders and the wider staff team, whose energy and commitment make it possible for pupils to enjoy and benefit from this valuable programme. To celebrate Science Week, Year 9 pupils joined peers from across the Trust for a workshop and live demonstration on rocket technology. After seeing real rocket motors in action, teams designed, built and launched their own rockets, competing to see whose flew the furthest. It was a fantastic opportunity to spark curiosity and strengthen analytical and collaborative skills. I very much enjoyed attending the Senior School Council meeting this week and was impressed by the work of our School Councillors. They play a huge part in giving pupils an important voice in shaping school life whilst also building confidence, leadership and a sense of shared responsibility. On Thursday, pupils from across the school took their practical music exams with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. Learning a musical instrument helps pupils develop discipline, focus and creativity, and these ABRSM assessments give them a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate their musical progress through confident, expressive performance. We round off the week with the CPA Quiz, a popular event with just a dash of healthy competition!

Science Week Celebration What an incredible morning of discovery and hands‑on learning! Year 9 pupils from all three schools in the Trust were treated to an action‑packed rocket science showcase, bursting with explosive demonstrations, swirling smoke rings, and plenty of wow moments that kept everyone on the edge of their seats. The excitement continued into the workshops, where pupils worked in small teams to design, build, and test their own compressed‑air rockets. After some impressive engineering, they headed out onto the field to launch their creations sky‑high! Many congratulations to the winning Year 9 team from Manor House, whose rocket soared an amazing 120 metres! A fabulous morning of curiosity, creativity, and collaboration, and a perfect way to celebrate Science Week.

Year 9 Science Workshop

Senior School Council On Tuesday morning, the Senior School Council gathered to explore a broad range of topics, including school lunch options, clubs and societies, year group footballs, and PSHE lessons. The meeting sparked several productive discussions, and suggestions have been shared with the relevant staff where appropriate. It is fantastic to see representatives from every year group contributing thoughtful ideas and helping to shape the future of our school.

AI for GCSE GCSE pupils attended a helpful information session on Wednesday about the efficient use of AI, with a particular focus on supporting revision strategies. Pupils were encouraged to use the helpful acronym ‘GCSE’ to remind them to consider the 4 aspects of the prompt framework: Goal, Context, Source, Expectations, when using Microsoft Copilot. Thank you to Mr Afana, for his input into this session. Mr Pulford

Sports News Last weekend saw four U13 hockey teams in action against Feltonfleet, producing a series of competitive and enjoyable matches. On Wednesday, the U13A hockey team represented the school at the UKSA Hockey Tournament, performing superbly to reach the semi‑finals of the main Cup. Later that afternoon, a further four U13 hockey teams played fixtures against Shrewsbury House. The U14 football teams competed against Wetherby, securing two excellent victories for Cranmore. The U16 football team were involved in a closely contested match against Hampton, while the U15s also faced Wetherby in their fixture on Thursday. Today, the U16 Rugby 7s team are representing the school at the Surrey 7s Tournament in Reigate. It was also great to see Effingham Sixth Form competing in the U18s 7s Tournament on Wednesday. Golf Performance Sessions After making full use of the driving range and practice putting areas throughout the autumn and winter, our performance golfers moved onto the course on Monday, marking an exciting next step in their development. We wish the very best of luck to the U13 hockey teams competing tomorrow, as well as the U13 Rugby 7s team taking part in the Feltonfleet 7s Tournament.

Chaplaincy News This Week A reading from the Gospel of John A woman from Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” (For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.) The Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.) Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.”

Reflection A Samaritan woman arrives, burdened not only by her heavy water jar but also by life itself. Jews and Samaritans did not mix, and a man would not normally speak publicly to an unrelated woman. Yet Jesus begins a gentle conversation with her. What is striking is how Jesus sees her. He knows her story. He knows the mistakes she has made. He knows the pain she carries. But he does not judge her or push her away. Jesus offers her “living water” — a new beginning, a love that restores dignity. In meeting Jesus, the woman discovers her true worth. She leaves her jar behind — the symbol of her old life — and runs to share the Good News with others. The one who once hid from people becomes a witness to them. Prayer Loving God, You met the Samaritan woman at the well and offered her living water— the water of new life, hope, and forgiveness. Help us to recognise the places in our lives where we need Your healing. Give us the courage to be honest with You and with ourselves. Fill our hearts with Your living water, so that we may bring Your love to others. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. Click Here for more inspiring words
