Senior Chronicle YOUR ESSENTIAL ROUND-UP FOR THE WEEK COMMENCING 29 JUNE 2026 Message from the Headmaster

Cranmore continues to be characterised by a strong sense of energy, purpose and community, with a wideranging programme of trips, productions, music, sport and events throughout the year. This has contributed to the vibrant school experience enjoyed by pupils, staff and families alike. The positive atmosphere, together with this sense of momentum and engagement, has been clearly evident in classrooms, the auditorium and on the playing fields.

Thank you to the CPA for running another successful Crancamp over the weekend, to the staff who supported pupils in completing their Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition in Wales, and to all those involved in Senior Sports Day, the Year 9 Ramble, Founders’ Day Mass, the Wimbledon trip and the Public Speaking Competition, all of which took place during the final week of term.

It has been an incredible conclusion to an exceptional year. Thank you to everyone who has played a part in making it so memorable. I would like to wish you all a restful, enjoyable and well-deserved summer break.

Duke of Edinburgh Silver Expedition On Saturday afternoon, four minibuses carrying 38 pupils and five teachers set off for the Black Mountains in Wales. After a long journey, the boys arrived and set up camp.

On Sunday, they began their expedition, walking approximately 17 kilometres from Sugar Loaf Mountain.

Divided into six teams, they spent three days trekking through the hills, camping each night along the route.

The boys cooked their own meals on gas stoves, carried all their equipment and food, and enjoyed excellent weather, with sunshine and warm temperatures throughout the expedition – perfect conditions for walking. Spirits remained high, with only a few blisters, nettle stings and insect bites to contend with.

They proved to be competent map readers, successfully navigating overgrown paths and challenging mountain terrain. Along the way, they enjoyed spectacular scenery and returned to camp each evening ready to relax after dinner, with time to play games before settling down for the night.

All pupils successfully completed the expedition, arriving at the finish point in Hay-on-Wye on schedule.

The journey home was much quieter than the outward trip, as most pupils fell asleep on the minibuses after their achievement.

Shakespeare Makes the Headlines

As part of their study of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, some Year 8 pupils have been working together to produce newspapers inspired by the play. The articles produced included reports of the double wedding of the two couples at the heart of the play as well as some of the plots and scandals that occur in it. One group took an unusually subversive approach and dedicated their newspaper to the villain of the peace: Don John, arguing that he had been misunderstood!

Year 9 EST Partnership Ramble: A Journey of Compassion

On a beautiful sunny day, Year 9 students took part in a memorable ramble walk as part of this year’s school value of Compassion. The journey began at St Martha’s Hill, where excitement filled the air as the students set off, surrounded by stunning countryside views.

The route led to Newlands Corner, providing the perfect setting for a well-earned lunch break. Students shared food, conversations and laughter, strengthening friendships and demonstrating the spirit of compassion through kindness, encouragement and support for one another.

As they made their way back to St Martha’s Hill, discussions continued around the theme of compassion, helping to reinforce the values promoted by the EST Partnership and encouraging students to reflect on how they can make a positive difference in the lives of others.

Returning to school, students brought back not only fond memories of a day spent outdoors but also a deeper appreciation of the importance of empathy, kindness and understanding. Inspired by the experience, they are ready to put these values into practice within both the school and wider community.

Moving Up Afternoon On Wednesday, afternoon, pupils who will be in Year 7 or Year 9 in September had a moving up afternoon with their new Form Tutors. Pupils joining the school in September were made to feel welcome and they took part in some ice-breaking activities with our current pupils.

Founders’ Day Mass

Parents, Governors and pupils gathered on Wednesday morning to celebrate our final Mass of the school year, Founders’ Day Mass.

Father Charles commented on the reverence shown by all in attendance as we paused to reflect on the past year.

Sports News Golf vs Hoe Bridge We also enjoyed a successful golf fixture against Hoe Bridge on our very own Crangusta course. Played in excellent spirit, the match showcased both the talent and sportsmanship of our golfers.

U13 Cricket Saturday morning saw two U13 cricket fixtures take place. Congratulations to our U13 side, who reached the Plate Final at the Rokeby 6s, demonstrating excellent teamwork, skill and determination throughout the tournament.

Congratulations to Daniel H (Year 11), who scored an impressive 112 runs for his club side last weekend - an outstanding achievement and a testament to his hard work and dedication to the game.

Sports News

Senior Sports Day Our Senior Sports Day provided a wonderful afternoon of athletics, house competition, and school spirit. Pupils competed with great enthusiasm, producing some excellent performances across the track and field events. Congratulations to Bowen House who were crowned the Champions!

Athletics Yesterday Arlo competed in the National Prep School's Athletics finals in Alexander Stadium in Birmingham in the Long jump. Last year in this event he finished 2nd and this year he finished in 5th with a strong jump of 4.36m. Congratulations to Arlo!

Sports News On Sunday 28th June, 8 boys went to Egham Regatta. Harry I in the J15 Boys Single Sculls, Rudyard B and Jonathan W in the J14 Boys Double Sculls and a J13 coxed quad of Rafe H, Teddy L, Seb W, Hugo B, steered

by Nino L. All three crews had a superb race - Harry I winning his first round in the single over a Windsor Boys School sculler by several lengths. In his next round he lost to a very strong sculler from Walton who went on to lose the final after leading for most of the race but came a cropper on the final bend! Harry has done very little single sculling so should be very proud of this result.

The J14 boys double had a cracking race against Windsor Boys in the semi final. This being Rudyard's tenth outing, they didn't quite have the skill off the start and lost ground initially to Windsor, but they didn't give up and managed to get their bows level by half way and with some excellent steering from Jonathan, got over the line first in a great race to make the final. The Walton crew we faced were both strong and technically capable and were worthy winners of the event. However a superb effort from Cranmore duo, especially given Rudyard's lack of water time.

The J13 boys coxed quad won their first round over Langley Academy by a large margin, which meant they had a show down with Henley Rowing Club. Henley are a very strong crew but the Cranmore boys took it on with serious aggression and despite being slightly down were moving through Henley but there was a clash of blades and both crews ground to a halt before setting off in a mad dash for the line which Henley reached first. A frustrating end to what was a superb race and season for this group.

It is fair to say the boys gave everything and despite the limited water time available compared to their opposition can be very proud of how they fared.

Year 10 Trip to Wimbledon

On Thursday 2nd July, eight boys from the Year 10 tennis team travelled to Wimbledon for an exciting day watching world-class tennis on Court No. 1.

Our first match was between Katie Swan and Madison Keys, with the American winning in straight sets. We then had the opportunity to watch World No. 2 Alexander Zverev take on Valentin Royer. Zverev was in excellent form and demonstrated why he is regarded as one of the best players in the world.

It was a fantastic opportunity for the boys to see top professional players up close and learn from the way they compete, conduct themselves and approach the game.

Chaplaincy News A reading from the Gospel of Matthew Who do you say I am?

When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he put this question to his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” And they said, “Some say he is John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” “But you,” he said, “who do you say I am?” Then Simon Peter spoke up, “You are the Christ,” he said, "the Son of the living God.”

Reflection Over the past year, we have encountered Christ in many different ways: in our lessons and friendships, in moments of success and challenge, and through ac ts of kindness, prayer, and service. Like Peter, we are invited to recognise who Jesus is and to give thanks for His presence in our lives.

The end of a school year is a time to look back with grateful hear ts. We thank God for the gifts we have received, the people who have suppor ted us, the lessons we have learned, and the oppor tunities we have had to grow in faith, knowledge, and charac ter.

End of School Year Prayer Loving Father, As this school year comes to an end, we thank You for all the blessings You have given us.

Thank You for our teachers, suppor t staff, families and friends.

Thank You for the lessons we have learned, the challenges we have overcome, and the memories we have made.

Like St Peter, help us to recognise You more clearly and to follow You more faithfully.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.
