AI Literacy Lower Workshop Prep Drama forWorkshop Years 5 and 6 On Wednesday, Mr Nick Nurock from Standup Computing delivered workshops to Years 5 and 6 on AI literacy, exploring one of the most transformative technologies of our time. The workshops introduced pupils to the fundamentals of artificial intelligence, emphasising how it differs from traditional programming. Pupils engaged in hands-on activities to build and evaluate image classifiers, such as a Minion Detector, learning how AI systems are trained using data and the importance of testing and refining them. Year 5 explored generative AI, discussing bias and its impact on creative industries, while Year 6 delved into object detection and computer vision. They also critically evaluated large language model responses and examined ethical considerations, including bias and privacy. Beyond the mechanics of AI, pupils developed valuable critical thinking skills by asking challenging questions and reflecting on the responsibilities that come with using intelligent technologies. As AI continues to shape our world, it is essential that young people become not only confident users but also informed and ethical thinkers.
