Prep Chronicle YOUR ESSENTIAL ROUND-UP FOR THE WEEK COMMENCING 7 SEPTEMBER 2026 Message from the Head of Prep The first full week of a new academic year is complete and the children are beginning to settle into their new routines. Sports fixtures and clubs are underway, and the first school trips of the year are just around the corner. It has been wonderful to welcome parents to our Prep Information events. I hope that what was shared proves useful in supporting your children at home over the course of this year, and offers a taste of all of the amazing opportunities that lie ahead of them. Our first assemblies together have given us the chance to talk about our value for the year, Character, and what it means to build character. We have also begun to celebrate some of the positions of responsibility that pupils in our Prep can enjoy with appointments being made for House Captains and School Council elections fast approaching. Today we hosted our first Open Morning of this academic year. Our visiting families were impressed not just by the incredible facilities and the expertise of our staff, but also by the kindness and consideration that the children showed them on their tours of the school. Particular credit must go to our Year 10 cohort who were incredible ambassadors for the school. We are very much looking forward to our annual Cranmore Live event on 18th September. We would love you to join us for a spectacular evening of live music as we welcome the renowned London Community Gospel Choir to the Auditorium. This promises to be a truly memorable event for the whole Cranmore community. Mr Heaver
Open Morning
Year 2 History Lessons Year 2 started our castles topic yesterday and learnt about Motte and Bailey castles. We collected some natural materials and then created our own Motte and Bailey castles and labelled them. Mrs Spencer and Mrs Parker
Year 1 Visit to Forest School Year 1 had a fantastic first session at Forest School. The children were delighted to be back at the Forest School site enjoying the mud kitchen, tree climbing, swinging in the hammock and discovering how the vegetables planted before summer had evolved! The children also had the opportunity to make mini pumpkins out of clay and they are looking forward to painting these in the next session. Mrs Prothero
Summer Reading Challenge Congratulations to all the pupils who successfully completed the Summer Reading Challenge. Reading for pleasure is one of the most powerful ways to support academic achievement, so it is fantastic to see such enthusiastic participation across the school. We are delighted that pupils from Year 2 through to the Senior School embraced the challenge and developed their love of reading over the summer holidays. Music News Organ Explorers Course with the Royal College of Organists This summer, I attended the three-day Organ Explorers programme in London, organised by the Royal College of Organists (RCO) and attended by around 30 young musicians. The course combined organ performance, choir singing and music education, giving us the oppor tunity to develop our skills on both manuals and pedal boards, build a working model organ, and rehearse with other young singers. Highlights included performing on the Great Organ at Westminster Abbey, hearing a recital from the Abbey’s Sub-Organist, Matthew Jor ysz, and enjoying a private tour of the Abbey. The programme concluded with an Organ Explorers concer t, a choral Eucharist and Mass, and an inspiring talk from Daniel Moult, Head of Organ Studies at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, who presented cer tificates to all par ticipants. It was a memorable and enriching experience that deepened my appreciation of both music and the organ. Jason S, 6FQ

Brass Academy I went to Brass Academy in the holidays in Cheltenham. There were seventy students and we played Back to the Future Film Score in a huge band and I was the only tenor horn! Perr y R, 6FQ
Cranmore Live
The countdown is on to Cranmore Live, one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the year. Taking place on Friday 18 September at 6.30pm in the Auditorium, this year's concer t features the world-famous London Community Gospel Choir and promises an evening of outstanding enter tainment and celebration not to be missed. Sports News It has been a fantastic first full week back at school, with all pupils enjoying their first PE, Games and Swimming lessons of the year. In PE, pupils have focused on developing fundamental movement skills, while Games lessons have centred on football, our core spor t for this phase of the term. In Swimming, pupils revisited key safety procedures and demonstrated all four strokes following the summer break. It has also been wonderful to see so many pupils attending Swim Squad before school and taking full advantage of our extensive extra-curricular programme, which offers a wide range of spor ting oppor tunities across all year groups. The enthusiasm, energy and commitment shown by pupils throughout the week have been excellent, and we look forward to an exciting term of spor t ahead. Mr Hodgson, Director of Sport

A Reading from the Gospel of Matthew "I tell you solemnly once again, if two of you on earth agree to ask anything at all, it will be granted to you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three meet in my name, I shall be there with them." Prayer changes us. It helps us to see beyond our worries, to recognise God's blessings, and to find the courage to do what is right. Even when our prayers are not answered in the way we expect, God is always listening and guiding us. St John Vianney once said: "Prayer is nothing else than union with God." Our true purpose is to live a life of constant prayer, where our hearts are constantly open to the beauty around us and to God's presence in our lives. Prayer Lord Jesus, You promised to be present whenever people gather in your name. Help us to make prayer a daily part of our lives. Teach us to trust in your love, to listen to your voice, and to support one another in faith. May our hearts always be open to your presence and your peace. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
