THE ARCHITECTURE DEPARTMENT ACHIEVED NOTABLE PROGRESS THIS YEAR THROUGH HIGH-IMPACT LECTURES, SITE-BASED LEARNING, AND ENHANCED DIGITAL DESIGN TRAINING. ITS COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY AND INNOVATION IS REFLECTED IN THE LAUNCH OF THE SUSTAINABLE BUILDING TECHNOLOGIES UNIT AND HANDS-ON WORKSHOPS. THE DEPARTMENT ALSO EXPANDED ITS GLOBAL PRESENCE THROUGH ALUMNI RECOGNITION, PROFESSIONAL PARTICIPATION, AND RESEARCH ACHIEVEMENTS, STRENGTHENING DESIGN EXCELLENCE AND PREPARING FUTURE-READY GRADUATES.

ARCH STUDENTS BOOTH AT THE CLUB FAIR – SHOWCASING CREATIVITY AND COLLABORATION

On November 20, 2025, the Architecture Students Council, under the supervision of Ms Maya Kamareddine, participated in the Students Club Fair by organizing a dedicated booth representing the Architecture Department The booth served as a platform to showcase students’ creativity, innovation, and collaborative efforts through the display of diverse architectural projects, physical models, and design portfolios. The exhibition highlighted a wide range of architectural interests and demonstrated the technical and conceptual skills developed within the program. In addition to the visual displays, the booth functioned as an interactive space that facilitated academic and social exchange. Students engaged with visitors by sharing their experiences in architectural studios, discussing the challenges and rewards of the discipline, and providing insights into the learning environment

The booth also attracted strong engagement from students of other departments, encouraging interdisciplinary dialogue and fostering greater awareness of architectural studies within the university community Interactive discussions and feedback from visitors further enriched the experience, creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere throughout the event.

In addition, the initiative helped strengthen students’ presentation and communication skills, while also enhancing their ability to represent their work in a professional and engaging manner. It contributed to building confidence, teamwork, and leadership among participants, reflecting the department’s commitment to holistic student development. Overall, the participation effectively reflected the dynamic academic culture of the department and reinforced a strong sense of community among its students It also played a significant role in promoting the field of architecture and encouraging prospective students to explore its opportunities

REVIT WORKSHOP: SPECIAL REVIT TOOLS FOR ARCHITECTS

On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, a workshop titled “Special Revit Tools for Architects” was held The session introduced students to advanced Revit tools that help architects design buildings more efficiently and accurately. Participants learned how to use these tools for modeling, team coordination, and creating ready-toexecute plans and designs. The workshop enhanced students’ practical skills in digital architectural design. It also provided hands-on experience that strengthened students’ understanding of Building Information Modeling (BIM) workflows in real architectural practice. By the end of the session, students were able to apply new techniques to improve design precision, collaboration, and project delivery quality.

VIRTUAL SEMINAR ON "PLANNING SPORTS FACILITIES" AT EFFAT UNIVERSITY

Under the patronage of the Saudi Universities Sports Federation (SUSF), the Deanship of Student Affairs at Effat University, in collaboration with the College of Architecture and Design, organized a central virtual lecture titled "Planning Sports Facilities" The session was expertly presented by Dr Amjad Fahmy, Associate Professor at the College of Architecture and Design, on Saturday, April 4, 2026, via the Zoom application

During the seminar, Dr Amjad Fahmy covered essential pillars, including modern planning standards and the design and construction of stadiums and facilities. He highlighted the concept of "Smart Facilities," focusing on sustainability and technical solutions, alongside crowd management, accessibility, and safety protocols. The session concluded with a discussion on operating and investing in sports facilities to ensure effective management and maintenance.

DR. NERMINE ABDEL HALIM EARNS PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATE IN CARBON FOOTPRINT & EMISSIONS MANAGEMENT

Dr. Nermine A. Abdel Halim (ARCH) earned a professional certificate in Carbon Footprint & Emissions Management after completing a 5-day training course (25 credit hours) organized by AHAD from 18 to 22 January 2026. The program enhanced knowledge and skills in carbon footprint assessment and emissions management within sustainability practices. The training provided practical insights into environmental impact measurement and reporting. It also contributed to strengthening professional capacity in sustainability and climate-related fields.

DR. NERMINE ABDEL HALIM CONDUCTS WORKSHOP ON COMPRESSED EARTH BRICKS PRODUCTION

Dr. Nermine A. Abdel Halim (ARCH) conducted the CEB hands-on workshop titled “Press & Protect: Compressed Earth Bricks Production” at the Sustainable Building Technologies Unit (COAD 142) on 8 April 2026. The session introduced students to eco-friendly construction methods using locally sourced, low-impact materials. Participants gained practical experience in mix preparation, molding, and operating a press machine to produce compressed earth bricks, enhancing their understanding of sustainable building technologies The workshop emphasized reducing carbon impact in construction through alternative material solutions

UNDERSTANDING MOSTADAM SAUDI ARABIA'S GREEN BUILDING RATING SYSTEM FOR NEW RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS

On Monday, 13 April 2026, the Department of Architecture organized a workshop titled “Introduction to 3D Modelling Using SketchUp and V-Ray”, led by Dr. Amgad Fahmy. The session introduced students to the basics of 3D modelling with SketchUp and the rendering capabilities of V-Ray Participants learned how to create 3D architectural models, apply materials, and produce realistic visualizations The workshop helped students understand the importance of combining modelling and rendering tools for effective architectural presentations

On Tuesday, April 14, 2026, Dr Nermine Abdel Gelil conducted a workshop titled "Understanding Mostadam Saudi Arabia's Green Building Rating System for New Residential Buildings." The session introduced students to the principles of sustainable green buildings and how to apply them to new residential projects. Participants learned about energy efficiency, sustainable resource use, and reducing environmental impact The workshop helped raise awareness of the importance of green buildings and their role in promoting sustainable urban development

DR. TAKI EDDINE SEGHIER LEADS ARCH354 SITE VISIT

TO RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION PROJECT

Dr. Taki Eddine Seghier (ARCH) organized a site visit for ARCH354 – Structure Integration in Architecture on 19 February. Students visited a residential building during its early construction stage to observe the execution of reinforced concrete rigid frame systems on-site. The visit provided hands-on learning beyond theoretical instruction, offering students direct insight into structural implementation. Appreciation was extended to Kayan Quality Company for facilitating and coordinating the construction site visit.

ARCHITECT SOUQUET OLIVIER SHARES PROFESSIONAL INSIGHTS IN GUEST LECTURE AT ARCH

Dr. Taki Eddine Seghier (ARCH) hosted Architect Souquet Olivier as a guest speaker for undergraduate students at the College of Architecture and Design. The session featured insights into real-world adaptive reuse and rehabilitation projects in France, bridging academic learning with professional practice.

The guest speaker also engaged with Design Studio 4 students through discussions, project reviews, and constructive feedback on their ongoing work.

DR. TAKI EDDINE SEGHIER LEADS ARCH SITE VISIT FOR DESIGN STUDIO 4 IN AL BALAD

Dr. Taki Eddine Seghier from the ARCH department conducted a site visit with Design Studio 4 students as part of a servicelearning project in collaboration with Al Balad. The visit aimed to connect academic learning with real-world practice by engaging students directly with the historical and cultural context of the site. The experience supported students in developing practical design insights while contributing to community-based learning initiatives.

DR. TAKI EDDINE SEGHIER ORGANIZES ONLINE WORKSHOPS ON BUILDING PERFORMANCE AND VISUALIZATION

April 4, 11, and 18, 2026

Dr. Taki Eddine Seghier from the ARCH department organized a series of three online workshops held on April 4, 11, and 18, 2026. The sessions included two workshops on building performance simulation and one workshop on architectural visualization. These workshops aimed to enhance students’ technical and design skills by introducing advanced digital tools and methods used in contemporary architectural practice.

DR. TAKI EDDINE SEGHIER PUBLISHES THREE Q1/Q2 RESEARCH PAPERS

Spring 2026

Dr. Taki Eddine Seghier from the ARCH department has authored and co-authored three Q1/Q2 journal papers accepted in prestigious journals in Spring 2026. The research covers BIM-based optimization for acoustic performance in educational spaces, the relationship between green certification and occupant well-being in office buildings, and machine learning approaches to reduce embodied carbon in precast concrete manufacturing. These studies highlight advanced, sustainable, and data-driven innovations in architecture.

DIGITAL TWIN TECHNOLOGY APPLICATIONS IN SUSTAINABLE URBANISM: TOWARD SMART AND RESILIENT CITIES

A recent presentation highlighted the role of Digital Twin technology in advancing sustainable urban development The concept focuses on creating virtual models that replicate real-world urban systems, enabling continuous monitoring and analysis. The session emphasized how Digital Twins support better decision-making by simulating different scenarios, improving resource efficiency, and enhancing environmental sustainability This technology represents a key step toward building smarter and more resilient cities.

BIG DATA AND DATA SCIENCE IN ARCHITECTURE

A presentation on Big Data and Data Science explored their growing impact on architecture and urban planning The session focused on how large datasets can be analyzed to understand patterns related to energy use, human behavior, and city dynamics

It also highlighted the importance of data-driven decision-making in improving design efficiency and sustainability. These tools are becoming essential in shaping the future of smart and innovative urban environments

SPEAK TO LEAD 2026 – TIS MIC MASTERS EVENT

Thamer International Schools successfully hosted the “Speak to Lead – 2026” Mic Masters Event, a dynamic platform designed to empower students through public speaking and leadership development. The event brought together students and academic professionals in an engaging environment that fostered confidence, critical thinking, and effective communication skills.

A notable highlight of the event was the participation of distinguished faculty members from Effat University, whose presence enriched the experience through insightful feedback and meaningful engagement with students. Their contributions played a key role in enhancing the quality and impact of the sessions.

The event concluded with a highly positive response, reflecting a shared commitment to student development and excellence, while also strengthening the collaboration between Thamer International Schools and Effat University for future initiatives.

DR. ASMAA IBRAHIM PARTICIPATES IN THE 8TH RESEARCH & INNOVATION FORUM 2026

Dr. Asmaa Ibrahim participated in the 8th Research & Innovation Forum 2026, held on April 16–17, 2026, with an online session on April 14, 2026, in Athens, Greece. She contributed as a panelist in the discussion titled: “THE THIN (RED?) LINE: Balancing Life and Work in Academic Life Today.”

Her participation highlighted key challenges in academic life, particularly the balance between professional responsibilities and personal well-being within higher education environments, emphasizing the importance of sustainable academic practices and well-being.

�� OUTSTANDING STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AT THE HUMANIZATION HACKATHON

20 April 2026

We are proud to celebrate the remarkable achievement of Architecture (ARCH) students at Humanization Camp V2 – The Humanization Hackathon, organized by University of Prince Mugrin in collaboration with Prince Faisal bin Salman Chair for Humanizing Cities, with participation from teams representing six universities. Students Raneem Abo Talib and Renad Al Sahreef were part of the team awarded First Place, while Kholoud Al Naqeeb contributed to a team that secured Third Place, reflecting the high level of excellence and engagement demonstrated by our students.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Dr. Tamer El Serafi and the Architecture Department for their continuous guidance and support in achieving this success. It was also an honor to contribute to this initiative as a Jury Member alongside distinguished experts and representatives from the Medina Development Authority, where participants were recognized by the President of the University of Prince Mugrin.

IIt was a privilege to participate as a Jury Member in Humanization Camp V2 – The Humanization Hackathon, organized by the University of Prince Mugrin in collaboration with the Prince Faisal bin Salman Chair for Humanizing Cities.

The event brought together distinguished experts and representatives from the Madinah Development Authority, where we had the honor of being recognized by the President of the University of Prince Mugrin for our contribution as jury members.

�� PIT STOP FOR THE PLANET: INCLUSIVE UPCYCLING DESIGN CHALLENGE AT EFFAT UNIVERSITY

Spring 2026

Dr, Asmaa Ibrahim led and contributed to the “Pit Stop for the Planet: Inclusive Upcycling Design Challenge” at Effat University, organized in partnership with the Saudi Motorsport Company. The initiative brought together 229 students, with 78 active participants forming 15 interdisciplinary teams across Architecture, Design, Engineering, Business, and Humanities, supported by 23 mentors. The challenge focused on transforming event waste materials into innovative, inclusive, and sustainable design solutions that address real societal needs, particularly for individuals with disabilities. Students developed a range of prototypes including assistive mobility tools, adaptive products, and interactive inclusive designs, demonstrating the integration of sustainability, innovation, and social impact.

Outstanding projects were recognized across multiple categories, including Inclusive Design, Technology & Energy Responsibility, Media & Communication, and Business & Feasibility, highlighting the university’s commitment to empowering students to create meaningful and sustainable solutions for the future.

ARCHITECTURE FACULTY PROMOTIONS RECOGNIZED BY SAUDI COUNCIL OF ENGINEERS

Dr. Mohamed Fekry, Dr. Amgad Farghal, Dr. Tamer ElSerafi, Dr. Asmaa Ibrahim, and Dr. Nermine Abdel Halim have been promoted to the Consultant Engineer category by the Saudi Council of Engineers, in recognition of their advanced professional expertise and experience. DR. NERMINE ABDEL HALIM LEADS PUBLICATION OF EFFAT UNIVERSITY ESG & SUSTAINABILITY REPORT

On 12 April 2026, Dr. Nermine Abdel Halim, Chair of the Effat University Sustainability Committee, led the publication of the inaugural Effat University ESG & Sustainability Report. This milestone achievement represents a key outcome of the university’s sustainability efforts for 2025–2026, establishing the first comprehensive baseline for Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance at Effat University. The report consolidates institutional data and initiatives across sustainability domains, providing a structured framework for future monitoring, reporting, and continuous improvement. It also reflects Effat University’s commitment to embedding sustainability principles within its academic and operational ecosystem, supporting long-term strategic planning and responsible institutional development.

DR. AMGAD FARGHAL EARNED THE PMP CERTIFICATE

We are delighted to announce that one of our faculty members from the Architecture Department has successfully earned the prestigious Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI) on 8 March 2026. This significant achievement highlights our department’s commitment to excellence in both architectural design and professional project management practices.

DR. TAMER ELSERAFI APPOINTED AS HIGHER EDUCATION LEADER AT GULF HE NETWORK

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Tamer ElSerafi, Ph.D., as a Higher Education Leader within the Gulf Higher Education Network (GULF HE).

Dr. ElSerafi serves as Head of the Architecture Department and Director of the MSc in Architecture and Urbanism at Effat University Effat University, Jeddah. His academic leadership and extensive expertise in architecture and urbanism continue to contribute significantly to advancing higher education and research excellence in the region.

As a community dedicated to fostering excellence, collaboration, and innovation across higher education in the Gulf, GULF HE is pleased to welcome Dr. ElSerafi in contributing to its mission of shaping impactful academic development and strengthening thought leadership across institutions.

Recognized as an International Network of ICED, GULF HE continues to build a strong, inclusive, and future-oriented academic community that connects scholars, educators, and leaders across disciplines.

AUTODESK FORMA ESSENTIALS WORKSHOP FOR MASTER’S STUDENTS

Organized by the Architecture Department (ARCH), Dr. Tamer ElSerafi delivered a workshop titled “Autodesk Forma Essentials” on 4 March, designed to introduce master’s students to the fundamentals of the software and its applications in architectural design.

The workshop provided hands-on training in key features of Autodesk Forma, focusing on early-stage design, environmental analysis, and data-driven decisionmaking. Students gained practical experience through guided exercises that supported their understanding of digital workflows in contemporary architecture.

Upon successful completion of the workshop requirements, participants received professional certification, reflecting their acquired skills and readiness to apply the software in academic and professional contexts.

This initiative reflects the department’s commitment to enhancing students’ digital competencies and preparing them for industry-relevant architectural practice.

EFFAT UNIVERSITY STUDENTS ACHIEVE OUTSTANDING RECOGNITION IN THE GIORDANO SAUDI HERITAGE DESIGN COMPETITION

Effat University proudly celebrates the achievement of its students in the Giordano Saudi Heritage Design Competition, which highlights creativity inspired by the rich cultural heritage of Saudi Arabia.

Architecture student Aeysha Syed secured First Place for her outstanding design project that successfully combined elements of Saudi heritage with contemporary design approaches. Her work reflected creativity, innovation, and a strong understanding of cultural identity. The project was recognized for its originality, aesthetic quality, and thoughtful interpretation of traditional Saudi design elements in a modern context.

In addition, Abdullah Junaid Baozir from the Computer Science program achieved Fifth Place, reflecting the diverse talents and interdisciplinary excellence fostered at Effat University. Their achievements demonstrate the university’s commitment to encouraging innovation, creativity, and active student participation in national competitions and cultural initiatives.

Effat University congratulates the students on their success and appreciates the support and guidance provided by faculty members throughout the competition journey.

ARCH DEPARTMENT CELEBRATES OUTSTANDING JAHEZAYA RESULTS AND STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT

The ARCH Department proudly congratulates its graduating students, along with Dr. Tamer, on the exceptional progress achieved in the Jahezaya assessment results across all evaluated areas.

A special recognition is extended to students who attained scores of 80% and above out of 100, earning the distinguished “Wisam Jahezaya” (Readiness Medal). This achievement reflects their strong academic preparation, dedication, and commitment throughout their studies.

Muna Al Hawwary – 80%

These results highlight the students’ readiness for the next stage of their academic and professional journey, demonstrating excellence in performance and consistency in achievement.

The ARCH Department expresses its pride in all graduating students and wishes them continued success and excellence in their future endeavors. The department also looks forward to celebrating this achievement in recognition of their hard work and accomplishments.

ARCHITECTURE DEPARTMENT ACHIEVES TOP HONORS IN MUNIR SENDY AWARD

On January 26, 2026, the Architecture Department at the College of Architecture and Planning achieved a remarkable accomplishment in the Munir Sendy Award. Dr. Ibrahim Saleh supervised the projects that won first and second place in the Architecture Track. The competition brings together architecture students from universities across the Kingdom, reflecting the department’s academic excellence, creativity, and commitment to fostering outstanding talent at the national level.

ARCHITECTURE DEPARTMENT ORGANIZES TOWERS DESIGN & BUILD COMPETITION

On December 26, 2025, the Architecture Department at Effat University organized the first Towers Design & Build Competition under the supervision of Dr. Ibrahim Saleh. Students applied computational design and digital fabrication techniques to create innovative tower structures, showcasing advanced technical and creative skills. The competition reflected the department’s commitment to integrating emerging technologies and hands-on learning into architectural education.

DR. IBRAHIM SALEH EARNS PROFESSIONAL NATIONAL CERTIFICATE IN ONLINE TEACHING AND LEARNING

On November 27, 2025, Dr. Ibrahim Saleh received the Professional National Certificate in Online Teaching and Learning from Saudi Electronic University, enhancing his expertise in digital pedagogy and online education technologies.

SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF FINAL JURY FOR ARCHITECTURE DESIGN STUDIO 6 AT EFFAT UNIVERSITY

The final jury session for #ArchitectureDesignStudio6 (#ARCH316) at Effat University showcased strong creativity, technical development, and conceptual maturity among students. Projects demonstrated solid architectural thinking through high-rise mixed-use proposals developed within a critical and collaborative studio environment. The jury emphasized students’ academic growth and readiness to address real-world architectural challenges.

Special thanks were extended to Dr. Ahmed Refaat, Dr. Huda Tariq Arshadlamphon, and Arch. Maya Kamareddine, with pride expressed in the students’ achievements and future potential.

CAPSTONE PROJECTS 2026 FINAL JURY HIGHLIGHTS AT EFFAT UNIVERSITY

The final jury for the 2026 Capstone Projects at the Department of Architecture, Effat University highlighted strong creativity, maturity, and professional growth among students. The projects reflected solid architectural thinking and engagement with contemporary issues and Saudi cultural identity.

Jurors praised the students’ presentation skills, critical thinking, and design quality across diverse proposals including cultural centers, museums, and community hubs. Appreciation was also extended to all jury members and Dr. Ibrahim Saleh for his supervision and collaboration.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP ON FIDIC CONTRACTS AT EFFAT UNIVERSITY

The Project Management Workshop at Effat University featured an insightful session on FIDIC Contracts, covering their history, types, importance, and dispute resolution mechanisms, delivered by Dr. Bassam Ghulman.

The session emphasized the growing importance of contractual frameworks in supporting large-scale development projects in Saudi Arabia, particularly in enhancing project efficiency, risk management, and dispute mitigation.

By linking academic learning with real-world practice, the workshop equipped students with essential knowledge to better engage with the evolving construction and project management industry.

EMPOWERING STUDENT IDEAS TO SHAPE THE CITIES OF TOMORROW

EFFAT UNIVERSITY ARCHITECTURE PROGRAM RECEIVES CONTINUING INTERNATIONAL CERTIFICATION FROM NAAB

The Bachelor of Science in Architecture program at Effat University has been granted Continuing International Certification by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) for a full term of six years, effective January 1, 2025. The next certification review visit is scheduled for Spring or Fall 2031. This designation recognizes that the program is comparable in educational outcomes to NAABaccredited architecture programs in the United States, reflecting the program’s commitment to international academic standards, continuous improvement, and excellence in architectural education.

While International Certification differs from formal NAAB accreditation within the United States, it provides graduates with the opportunity to apply for expedited educational credential evaluation through the Educational Evaluation Services for Architects program administered by NAAB on behalf of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. The achievement highlights the collective efforts of the Architecture Department, faculty members, students, and university leadership in strengthening the global academic standing of the program and advancing high-quality architectural education.

EFFAT UNIVERSITY STUDENTS ORGANIZE AN IFTAR TABLE

Students from Effat University organized a special Ramadan iftar table as part of their community activities during the holy month of Ramadan.

The students took the initiative to prepare and arrange a collective iftar meal for their peers and members of the university community. The table included traditional Ramadan items such as dates, water, and a variety of meals to break the fast at sunset. This activity aimed to promote values of cooperation, generosity, and unity among students. It also encouraged social interaction and strengthened the sense of community within the university.

During Spring 2026, under the supervision of Ms. Mirhan Abouelfadl, the Design Team won First Place in Design at the Pit Stop for the Planet: Inclusive Upcycling Design Challenge, hosted by Effat University in collaboration with the Saudi Motor Sport Company. The event featured the screening of six Saudi short films, showcasing diverse storytelling styles, themes, and cinematic approaches by emerging Saudi filmmakers.
