Dia de los Muertos is a 2 day celebration that starts on November 1st and ends on November 2nd The holiday originated over 3,000 years ago, and Maestro has been teaching about the holiday for 4 years-- since his first year at the school. Dia de los Muertos is important to Maestro because his grandma passed away 11 years ago and that’s why he started to teach kids about day of the dead, as a way to celebrate the people who have passed away in their lives Although he did not celebrate the holiday when he was younger, Maestro now thinks it’s an important tradition to continue and to pass on. The holiday embraces the fact that death is a part of life, and it’s an opportunity to joyously celebrate the dead. It is believed that the spirits of those who have died return for a brief reunion with the living This November, let’shonorthosewhohavecomebeforeus!
A favorite amongst all students, Mrs. Boles has created the the October tradition of “Inktober” here at the Presentation School. Inktober is a 31 day challenge started by a graphic artist named Jake Parker, who originally created the challenge for social media and people who post their drawings with the hashtag “Inktober”. Students are given a new prompt every day until the end of October. This year, the first prompt was a mustache, but last year, the first prompt was a backpack, for example. Students are each given a sketchbook, which they decorate (examples pictured to the right). Then they log their sketches in the drawing journal. Prompts include things like “Arctic”, “Rivals”, and “Murky”. Students then illustrate their drawings based on the prompt for that day. The Inktober process teaches students valuabledesignskillsandcreativeexpression!

This issue's spotlight article is about the one and only Mr Berka Mr Berka is a basketball-playing NFL fan who loves kayaking His birthday is August 25, and he loves playing NBA 2K25 with his son. Mr. Berka graduated from Sonoma State University and enjoys reading "The Arabian Nights" and "Days" by various authors, as well as playing dominoes with friends This thumbs up emoji �� liking teacher loves to eat Indian food, specifically Chicken Tikka Masala, and for dessert, he loves either a scoop of cookie dough or cookies and cream ice cream He lives in a house with 5 family members, including him When it's rainy, Mr Berka loves to get hype for the NFL or loves trying to anticipate what would happen in Demon Slayer; he likes Tanjiro and his friends. When it's sunny out, he likes to go play basketball or go kayaking He likes spending time with his family during his favorite holiday of Thanksgiving He loves owls Mr Berka loves the color blue We’re so happy to have this amazing teacher at our school this year; say hello to him!
A SPECIAL SPORTS UPDATE: VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONS!
As many of you know, TPS had a very successful season of volleyball! Our school has finally won a banner after a 7-year time gap Our 8th graders put up a very strong fight while only losing 3 games, and finishing in second place, which is amazing!! Finally, our 7th-grade team was very large in size, with a whopping 17-player team They only lost 2 games and went all the way to the championships, where they faced Windsor Christian Academy, and won the first game 25-17 and the second game 25-21, and won the championship!!! So congratulations to them, and cheers to another season of volleyball The school celebrated in the AC and honored the momentous occasion, and of course Coach choked back tears! Congrats coach Freitas for all your hard work!
